Why not one-sided two-way bikeway?

Look at this abomination and weep. 6 roads meet in what looks like a roundabout, but it has traffic lights with three rail tracks crossing it.

In Tupelo, Mississippi, a BNSF mainline bisects the intersections of two four lane roads. There is talk of the state and railroad building a new alignment, but nothing ever happens once everyone figures out how much it will cost.
>>
>>1746197
>Why not one-sided two-way bikeway?
American cities seem to love these, but don't they have issues with left turning drivers not paying enough attention to the bike lanes they're about to cross? I recall hearing about it.
>>
The local classic. Four directions of tram lines overlaid on a roundabout of five road directions.
>>
>>1746312
How many trains per hour?
>>
>>1746335
Not sure. A few coal trains a day and their empties that go to a power plant near Birmingham, some intermodal going to/from CSX & NS in B'ham and a few regular merch trains. Don't think they run any taconite trains on it anymore. It gets a fair amount of traffic and sews the town up, there aren't many bridges or underpasses in town.
>>
>>1746327
Looked it up on streetview (360 panorama). That smaller connection seems to be closed off for cars now. Seems pretty straightforward and you don't deserve a driver license if you can't see a tram coming.
Could do something with the middle island though, put greenery between the empty spaces instead.

Yeah, they have a bunch in my city (Austin) and i absolutely hate them especially when they put them on roads that are one way for cars, because literally 0 car drivers realize they need to look the other direction for bikes when turning onto the road. They're also difficult to turn onto from cross roads because you sometimes have to cross into oncoming traffic and aim right at the little gap in the barrier to the bike lane to get in there. I think they are much more dangerous than just not having a bike lane in one direction
>>
>>1746194
It's actually a 4-way junction. It's just that two of them are slower roads, so the change in surface highlights that and makes drivers slow down.

>>1746312
> nothing ever happens once everyone figures out how much it will cost.
Wow yeah it'd be a nightmare to move the junction ever so slightly, what with all that high density development packed all around it there.
>>
>>1746314
nyc anon here. 2 way bike lanes are always the fucking worst. drivers don't know it's there, other riders can't/refuse to stay in the lines, not really enough room to ride safely around more than a few others.
>>
>>1746457
>Wow yeah it'd be a nightmare to move the junction ever so slightly
A new alignment would go around the city. Moving the track over a little wouldn't improve the current situation.
>>
>>1746459
Thought it should work with the wide physical island separation here

I fucked up once at this roundabout in Oxford and ran a red light here by being in the wrong lane, going through the roundabout (which is for straight on only) getting confused, turning right then jumping a red to come off at an exit.

Why this isn't a roundabout is utterly beyond me. At least the U Bahn is elevated.

Because it's a bailey bridge and bailey bridge isn't normally designed for simultaneous 2 way roads.

So not only them mudshitters couldn't build a proper road, but they couldn't be arsed to at least build a truss bridge

May I introduce you to this big, high speed roundabout with lanes entering the roundabout from the inside of it.
The way the lanes are angled means that you can barely see if someone is coming from your left, and that is causing huge congestion on the north/south freeway crossing under it. Crashes are of course rather frequent due to the poor visibility, too.
Oh yeah, and you are forced to turn right if you dare stay on the rightmost lane. I think it's the only roundabout in my country with an "inner oncoming lanes" design like that.
It is, however, scheduled to be dismantled and rebuilt soon, replaced by like 4 smaller roundabouts instead.
>>
>>1748065
What is the name of this intersection? I want to see the new design.

Imagine if they took a three dimensional approach. Have those tram lines go up a ramp to an elevated intersection above the rest of traffic.

>>
>>1746254
lmao also with pedestrian crossings that only kind of sort of allow you to get from one side to the other. And is there even an airport down in the corner? Holy shit, there's no end to the multi-modal disasters that can happen here!
>>
>>1749337
Why the fuck would you send tram lines up a ramp instead of sending cars up a ramp or down into a tunnel? Do you have any idea how long the ramps would need to be to comply with rail grades?
>>
>>1747946

That seems like a bit of a waste. I bet with some strategic barrier and signage placement you could fix most of the problems involved for a lot cheaper. Think like a DDI conversion.
