Just bought a brompton, what am I in for?
no you didn't
>>1660162yes I did
>>1660160 a lot of gay sex.
>>1660160How to be a Brompton™ owner:1. if the conversation isn't about Brompton™s, find a way to make it about Brompton™s2. try to get people to ask the price. if they don't ask, just announce it unsolicited. make sure to immediately follow up with "but it isn't about the price, it was totally worth it"3. if there isn't a conversation, start one, so you can proceed to step (1)4. remember that it's not a conversation about Brompton™s unless you complete step (2). if the person starts to run away, chase after them and yell the price. if they were too fast for you, yell the price at anyone within earshot and practice more so this doesn't happen again5. it is acceptable to start with step (2) if the person sees you coming towards them for no reason and gets scared right away6. riding the Brompton™ is unnecessary. however if you do insist on riding it, make sure to only ride it in situations where you can complete steps (1) and (2) multiple times per hour. obviously an hour is far too long to be on or near any bike, but keep in mind just standing there with your Brompton™ accosting random pedestrians is allowed to count
For the record I want to state that I bought one purely because I rent a one bed apartment (third floor) and live in central London so I needed something that wont take up space Anyway, continue posting memes although a genuine review would be nice
>>1660160>>1660171I started typing this before you posted >>1660164, you're doing great, do they ship the manual showing you how to do that or is it just a natural talent that Brompton™ owners are born with?

lol, ignore all the trolling OPthey're great bikes, enjoy yourspeople just hate on them because they're expensive

>>1660181it's /n/, people say "you don't bike" or "proof or it didn't happen" to my posts all the time. not once did it occur to me to screenshot the RECEIPT for any of my bikes or bring up the cost unless the discussion was specifically about cost. even if it was implicitly about cost, like say "should I order a canyon or buy from my LBS" it's understood that people can easily google the cost of a well known bike and that gearheads probably have most of the prices memorized anyway. only Brompton™ people assume everyone around them needs to be blessed with this information at every opportunity. why do you suppose that is?

Redpill me on Bromption bikes, what makes it so special compares to other folding bikes like Tern for example? Pretty sure top of the line Tern Verge (P10, X11) bikes are much faster and have better ride than Bromptons.

iv found most people who own folding bikes dont actually use the folding aspect other than the gimmick of it, or they just didnt want it to take like 30% more space up in wherever they were putting it. I mean im sure some people actually get them so they can take on buses and whatnot but just noone I know

>>1661697The point is to:a. wear some expensive garment, to show that you're richb. show that you don't care about middle-class values like cleanliness and a careful appearance. You signal that you're not middle-class, because you're not sharing their values, and because you have expensive stuff, you also signal that you're clearly not working class. Conclusion: You're upper class. It's especially a middle-finger to the middle-class who have to work hard for their expensive stuff and try to fit in by keeping up appearances. People always need to kick down to the class directly below them, for Boris this is the middle class.

Only a bit problematic if you have to take it in a car, because it doesn't fold very small.Still, at only less than 15% o the money of that brompton, you get a bike that drives way way better. Although I only have 2 gears in the internal hub, it shits on most modern folding bikes, because it has a much more stable frame and large wheels. It's not good for long-distance driving (although I've been riding it 50+km at night a few times after missing the last train).>>1662552I wouldn't know about those tires. Do you like m much?>>1667017Ah, you're job is so shitty that you've got to save up for shit like this?Ricing shit up is for little kids. Spending all you're money on it so you don't have a buffer for when you're laundry machine breaks or whatever is just third-world mentality.
>>1667294I just spent a grand mate, of course I'm going to wait till my next payday before I buy cool upgradesanyway continue
>>1666987that dude's nutsack is massive
>>1667309Could you tell me what drives you to this consumerism?Whole days of flipping burgers (or salmons or whatever) to be able to afford a saddle, or colored tires sounds like a horribly empty life to me...You're not scraping money together to do cool things, you're scraping money together to afford things that might give you the recognition you're not getting enough.
Is this some kind of financial cuckoldry? I am presuming you are relatively young, more or less living paycheck to paycheck and your rent is expensive. With your limited funds, you could still be a sick cunt Racer™, but no, you settle for being a basedboy. That's quite sad. I mean what do you really get out of it anon?
>>1667357>>1667345I used to be poorNow I've worked my way up to a nice salary and want to spend my disposable income on cool shitif you spend less time worrying about me and my cool tyres then maybe you too will have some cool shit one day
>>1667464>want to spend my disposable income on cool shit>a brompton and /fa/ upgrades
>>1667464>I used to be poorKeep spending everything you earn on useless shit and you'll be poor again quickly. Enjoy!I have a good job and I've got enough money to stop working for 10 next years.I could spend more, but there's simply nothing I really desire to have. This attitude is the best way out of the rat-race.
>>1667464I do have cool shit. But if you are truly happy with your brompton, I don't really understand it, but all the power to you I guess.
>>1667594thanks broit's nimble and fits in my apartment so I enjoy it immenselydidn't realise it would be so contentious on /n/ but I'll keep you guys posted with upgrades and whatnot
>>1667602>nimble>folder with 20" tires
Not OP>>1667778Yes, folding bicycles are nimble. The smaller wheels yield a much smaller gyroscopical effect. Also the fact that you go much slower at the same effort makes it feel nimbler.
>>1667807>you go much slower at the same effortDo smaller wheels really have much higher rolling resistance?>makes it feel nimblerIrrelevant. What matters is whether it actually is nimbler or not.
People on here pay for 10k sworks bikes and they can't handle a 1700$ brompton with an impeccable design
>>1668666Wait you're a poor fag with no sworks or brompton... Sad Cope
>>1667808Yes, it makes a significant difference. I think this is the case especially on more bumpy roads. Although it is probably less of an issue on well-paved roads.>Irrelevant. What matters is whether it actually is nimbler or not.As I said. Learn how a gyroscope works. Because there is less of a gyroscopical effect, there's less sideways-force required to rotate your handlebars into a corner. You don't have to hang into the corner as much, just to start turning your handlebars.>>1668660People that pay 10k for a bike should be scoffed at, unless they riding the tour de France and shit.>>1668669Not him and not a poorfag. But basing your self-esteem on the amount of money you have are a clear indication of a total lack of character.
>>1668791>People that pay 10k for a bike should be scoffed at, unless they riding the tour de France and shit.it's not even that strange when a normalfag karenmobile is like 50k and a range rover is like 100k. not to mention supercars that cost several hundred thousand or millions. anyone who wants a decent quality bike suitable for an adult can buy a 1k bike. an amateur cycling enthusiast can justify spending 2-3k on a bike without suffering from diminishing returns too much. 10k is not an astronomical step up from that. try not being a fuckup and live a little.
>>1667808I have a 20" folder, the short wheelbase and small wheels give it a tiny turning radius. You can drop the foot in the pivot point
>>1668839???>an amateur cycling enthusiast can justify spending 2-3k on a bike without suffering from diminishing returns too muchSo you just say that it's only up to ~3k that you can spent your money in a meaningful way. So, you agree that spending 10k is a useless waste of money.
>>16688433k only gets you a high end aluminium or entry level carbon frame road bike with 105 and entry level carbon wheels or high end alloy wheels. you can easily go higher with a high end carbon frame, di2 groupset, high end carbon wheels, power meter, bike computer etc
>>1668847Of course, you can always spend more money. The question was: Is it well spent? Or is it just throwing away money because you have no other meaningful way of spending your money. (like spending money on a sports-car or a Rolex, things that don't really have practical value above their cheaper, more practical counterparts)
>>1668849are you going to take your money with you into the grave? of course you can enjoy a nice bike, car or watch if that's what you're into. newfags will naturally gravitate to more affordable options, the enthusiasts are the type of person who really do their research, they can tell the difference not just between a ferrari and a lambo but between individual models of a ferrari and make nuanced purchasing decisions.
>>1668852>are you going to take your money with you into the grave?Stupid US mentality. I'd rather work less and ride more...
>>1668791And what does sexuality have to do with a bike? Bi polar fucks in here...
>>1662757How would you know what date the parade is, anyway?
>>1663042An anarchist cricketer? That ith... thelf contradictory
I actually saw a bro with a brompton today and to be honest it looked quite lame. A brompton is about as sexy as a wheelchair. But I was impressed by how quickly he folded it up, so theres that. But I suppose they are practical because they don't take up space. If you ride it everyday instead of driving and it brings you joy, then it isn't a complete waste of money. Even though there are so many bicycles which are cheaper, more fun to ride and look cooler. But I kind of understand it because at least you have peace of mind that it will never get stolen because you can always take it inside.
>>1660160Bought my first bicycle the other day, I knew I wanted a Tern folding bike. The guy at the store asked if I wanted to try out the Brompton he had, so I gave it a spin knowing that I wouldn't buy it anyway. It felt smooth, but very few attachment points, and it felt a lot less sturdy than the Tern that I ended up buying. For 1000$ less, I'm glad I didn't buy the Brompton and instead bought the Tern along with a bike lock and a bike basket
>>1669093Who called in the Tern shills? That shit folds like an asshole after a pounding.
>>1669135So, well then?
>>1669135it is a bit stiff, I must admit, but that just makes your analogy more confusing.
>>1668852NoI going to keep a comfy cushion in case something goes wrong and I'm left with no jobGetting fired is not going to be the end of my worldWhy do you want to tapdance on that knifes edge?
just got this from a thrift store. $100. so heres my plan. 1. drive kayak and bike to river. 2. load bike onto kayak and go down river (in water tight bag). 3. exit river. 4. leave the boat and ride the bike to truck. 5. take truck to pickup boat. 5. go home.
>>1669877sounds sickhow heavy is that badboy thoughlooks very heavy
