There's suntour and then there's suntour, especially with forks. This thing literally has sponge dampers (which rotted away 10 years ago). The only "maintenance" I do on it is squirting chain lube down the inside of the rubber bits.

I just bought it, and holy fuck it's even prettier in person. Im gonna strip it down this weekend and start cleaning everything, and start on rebuilding it. All the bearings need a thorough repacking, I'm hoping the cups aren't too pitted in the bb, because it's rough, but it isn't sized or anything.

This is a really fucking nice bike boys, I'm worried my miyata will get jealous
>>
>>1643754
Even has internal cable routing, and look at that seatpost clamp. It badly needs new cables, and obv new bar tape, hoods, and the old man saddle has to go. Any opinions on what i should put on it? I'm thinking that black tape wouldn't look right, needs more color. The internal cable routing would look really nice with aero levers on there, but the levers it has are drilled, which is cool af

I’ve taken the damper out of a cheap (rockshox) rockhopper after it broke over the freezing winter in the backyard before and it felt a lot more dynamic and moved easily on the road but of course a pogo stick isn’t the best idea on a mountain bike

I do have a bad habit of buying frames that are too small just because they're cool/cheap.
the other anon is right though. That black cinelli mtb isn't too small. I'm 6'2. The top tube of it is 59cm (23"). Stock it had a 130mm stem. It's just setup as a cruiser not a racey XC bike. That bike works well.

Whether you can go undersized or not really depends. Be more specific

really nice. obviously the stem and bar setup is a bit odd but as someone who's back has the flexibility of a plank of wood I can appreciate this setup. bars could do with rotating back a bit though it looks like?

how does it handle? my neo retro steel build is a beaut and I love it but the handling is pretty poor due to lateral noodliness

Hehe that’s actually pretty good it’s a chairlift season pass tho
>>1643862
To see how much of the suspension travel you use while NOT riding, it’s to set up your fork for your weight
>>
>>1644010
yea because hopping around a parking lot is totally the same amount of compression you'll have when riding downhill, right?
>>
>>1644025
Exactly it’s not, you’re supposed to have the fork compress a certain amount (15-30% usually) just by sitting on it, that’s how you set fork pressure/sag, in the parking lot, without really moving. You need an oring or zip tie to find sag on any fork, if an air fork doesn’t have one, you have to put on one when you set up sag

handles fucking great. Centuries, whatever, i've raced on it too, aeons ago. I've had 'nice' noodly steel frames and this isn't one. Obviously it's not the same for throwing up a climb as a carbon bike, but it's reasonable.
with the whole bar drop thing i'm just over having much of it. It's odd too because riding that bike in the drops, my knees will be almost brushing my ribcage. It's not even physiologically possible to be much more aggressive. That's to do with my overall setup too i guess.

Been thinking about replacing my saddle with a dildo recently. Should make for some epic rides along the rocky coast.

If you just reomve the saddle the seatpost will do the same jobe while also acting as a drainage pipe for any shit and sperm you may want to eject while riding. remember anon, when your ergos shit the bed, and start slipping gears riding up hills, you can replace them with downtube shifters.

i disagree with you needing to beautify it. I like bikes like that in utility mutt mode. It's tigd with a unicrown fork and low spec columbus anyway. Makes a great beater. I like the mismatched tires. I'd do better brake pads and pedals just so it rides better.

>>1644501
beware the custom headset in that thing. its a stinker
>>
>>1644708
>they wont
my moser came with 8 speed mirage
what happens is when the shifters wear out, they slip gears under tension, so when you're mashing up a hill, it will shift up for you. Shimano by contrast never wears out into a problem like this.
2 sets of replacement shifters i bought for it also did or eventually did that

I also had some record ones in better condition which didn't do that. And had god-tier shifting. The ones with the metal levers are better.

You can generally tell how close to doing this they all are by how worn the hoods are. If they still have the preforated rubber they're quite un-used. If it's worn smooth, expect issues.

Technically they're all rebuildable but it's a fiddly job and parts will probably be quite high by now.

>replace with microshift
the freehub is different and the cable pull is different. He could replace -everything- to microshift like i did to shimano, but friction dts are just a cheap fix.
>>
>>1644536
Owner of the bike here, first of all thanks for the words of appreciation, and second, the mismatched tires are the result of crash with a motorcycle,i had to push the bike on the ground with the rear wheel stuck for 2 km,so the rear tire became flat where it touched the ground,i'll find a proper replacement asap. The frame got out pretty much untouched except for some scratches,it's tough af

Yeah, the shifters can be rebuilt with a new g spring, and Branford still has em. They're not too expensive, $14 for a pair. Shimano's left shifter from that era had a habit of seizing. Sometimes WD-40 would fix. Currently they have a small part that wears out and borks front shifting. Affects all Shimano road STI, dunno about GRX, but 105 is hit by it the most because they cut a lot of corners on 105. Hopefully they'll improve it with the next gen, if that ever comes out.
Unfortunately Campy is only selling replacement shifter bodies now, and who knows how long they'll keep doing that, as they're relentlessly modernizing.

I think I have browsed /p/ a couple of times in more than 10 years, I like taking pictures of everything including my bike, excluding me, but not really interested in photography autism, I have just my phone and a digital point and click camera I bring when I ride through new places. Cycling for me is not just a sport, I just do comfy rides, I stop, take a couple of pictures, enjoy the sights, continue riding.

This one is my triban 3,surprisingly reliable Microshift 8spd, with a based granny gear, 50-39-30 and 11-26 cog.Cheap and really decent bike.

Of course not, I just point the camera to the object and press the button, I'm not into photography, I don't create art, I just keep a record of things in my rides.

Need new bartape was thinking about changing to something else but black, mabye yellow? Also not a huge fan of the stem might get something lower, anyone have suggestions what else i could change?
>>
>>1644081
your chain might be too long is it rubbing against the derailleur?
>>
>>1646460
what a gorgeous bike
you know you can lower that stem right?
also, are the stem/bars cinelli? the size is different fyi

glaring flaw to me is the shitty mtb brake pads on the front. get some nice modern cartridge ones. shimano is good. the tyres are pretty low-spec and ugly. Tanwalls would look good. i'd like a silver metal bottle cage. the computer too is ugly. the rear brake loop is too long but that's w/e

literally any colour bartape would look good, pink, blue, green, red, celeste, purple, brown, black, white.
>>
>>1646460
you're missing a dust cap on the crank but also, meh.
>>
>>1645768
But it does fit. The 26" wheels might be throwing you off, and also it's just a normal MTB, not a "downhill" meme with a slammed seatpost.

>>1646468
thanks very good advice ill see what i can do!

$400 deep and I got all that the pump and oil in the corner, and a fucking sweet bike cover for summer storms.

On the cramped cockpit (indexed friction shifters) there's a mirror, speedometer, 300 lumen light, and bell

the bag fits my phone, wallet, keys so I don't have shit in my pockets, or serves extra storage.

thermos takes hot or cold drinks... 3lb lock deters thieves..

Bought this one from the original owner a couple of weeks ago, apparently he brought it from the US when he moved here (South America) and it was sitting for years on a beach house.

Did some maintenance on it, changed the old gumwall tires that were busted, decided to keep the shitty basket because it's pretty useful actually, cleaned some rust from the rims and cranks, and it runs like a dream.

Now I'm trying to ride as much as I can before the shitty winter weather really sets in
