America will never have proper high speed rail, we can’t even get it right on television.

"AN ATOM POWERED STEAM TURBINE MACHINE CAPABLE OF CROSSING THIS COUNTRY IN ... wait for it ... **36 HOURS** !!!"
>>
>>1606450
So even in our wildest train fantasy, the best we can come up with is an ultra-wide nuclear steam turbine train that still takes 36 hours to cross our own country.

dont remind me

ironic as they could have rented access to a trainset for 1/10th the price and just filmed on that

Wouldn’t it go like 80 MPH to take that long? Damn

Why tf couldn't companies lile GE get creative and build a competetive strategy against Alstom, Siemens and ABB back in the days? Congress would have allowed it because "muh amierica dominate market", fucking GE had so much potential that if only they would have the right people back then they could have zeroed out the reliance of foreign companies manufacturing trainsets to the US.

>Though it has a rated top speed of 250 mph (402.34 km/h), and cruises at 190 mph (305.78 km/h), the train takes 36 hours to go from New York City to Los Angeles; this would put the train's average speed at around 80 mph (128.75 km/h), slower than that of Amtrak's Acela Express and well below the speeds of bullet trains in Europe and Asia.

It's not a direct trip. It winds all over the country and makes stops
