I have a feeling the CVR audio we have isn't the actual audio. The ATC audio and CVR audio both have the GPWS warnings, but the ATC audio has five whoop whoops, and the CVR has only four. Also, the actual CVR transcript document has never been released in its entirety.

Because the train wrecked and ended up on top of the whale statue.
>>
>>1585121
The conductor and his assistant jumped out of the locomotive before the crash and both survived.
>>
>>1585013
The black and white photos were taken on the 23 rd of December, 1968. The disaster happened near Mende, Hungary. A passenger train (with the steam loco) was mistakenly sent to left track, and collided frontally with an oncoming freight train. 43 people died in the disaster, because one of the freight cars jumped into the air and fell on a passenger carriage.
The responsibility of the crash lies with the dispatcher and the crew of the passenger train. The dispatcher selected the wrong track in the interlocking system. The system knew that the oncoming track has traffic, but the dispatched thought it was having a malfunction so he overrode the system. In this mode they can only give "call signal" to the trains, which means they can go past the signal with no more than 15 km/h. The crew of the passenger train ignored the speed restriction and passed the signal going 40 km/h. Due to the evening dusk, the crew of the freight train realized that the passenger train is on the same track as them only when the distance between them was 3-400 metres. The train engineer of the freight train shut down the engine and the diesel pump and jumped out before the crash.

>In the Pan Am cockpit, nose-to-nose with the still unseen, rapidly approaching interloper, there’s a growing sense that something isn’t right. “Let’s get the fuck out of here,” Captain Victor Grubbs says nervously.

>A few moments later, the lights of the KLM 747 emerge out of the grayness, dead ahead, two thousand feet away and closing fast.

>“There he is!” cries Grubbs, shoving the thrust levers to full power. “Look at him! Goddam, that son of a bitch is coming!” He yanks the plane’s steering tiller, turning left as hard as he can, toward the grass at the edge of the runway.

>On 28 September 2020 a Swedish documentary was released which used underwater equipment to film the wreck. This investigation found a 4-metre hole in the ship's hull. This prompted the Estonian prime minister and foreign minister to meet with their Swedish and Finnish equivalents and announce that a "new technical investigation" would take place. The head of the Estonian investigation stated publicly that he believes this new information points to a collision with a submarine and that the hole could not have happened post-sinking.

>All experts are in agreement that there is too much water for it to have come in from the sides of the ramp. But there is not enough water there for it to have come in from the opened ramp. If the ramp is open, 2000 tons would flow in a minute. There was 500-700 tons. Therefore, there was water on the vehicle deck. But it must have come in from someone else, not the ramp. And as we can see from the new footage, the tear reaches both the bottom and top of the vehicle deck. Meaning the hole - considerably smaller that an opened ramp - was where the water came from.
>What should be done now with this information?
>The wise don't rush (an Estonian idiom - ed.). I think the government should firstly sit down calmly and think deeply about the situation. And ask who we can trust at a time like this. And also think about how to win back the public's trust.
>Let's go back in time. Everyone, who spoke of any kind of weapon smuggling, were ridiculed. It turned out in 2005 that there indeed were weapons transported. People speaking of a hole in the ship's hull all these years have been ridiculed. It was considered impossible. Now, 26 years later, we have footage of there being a hole.

the clownshow that was Railtrack plc really doesn't get enough attention
when they got a bailout following this diaster they immediately paid out to shareholders instead of putting the money to use fixing the railway network they'd destroyed. unsurprisingly when they ran out of money again a second bailout wasn't forthcoming and the track was renationalised.

I actually remember finding this picture and calculating how long was left until the PSA crashed, and also finding exactly where the photographer took the photos. The bigger photo had some more discernible features that I used to triangulate the location. PSA 182 was about 1-2 seconds from crashing here.

When I think of it, this happened nearby.
Unit 3015 was repaired and used for high speed experiments. built for a top speed of 120km/h it was pushed up to 220.
Unit 3033 was scrapped.

>the railway network they'd destroyed
lets be honest. Railtrack was shit, however the railway was already destroyed from way before. Its just that public companies can hide problems better.
>>
>>1627481
Pre-Railtrack British railways had plenty of problems (as comes with being stuck in the Victorian era) but "the tracks are literally breaking underneath the trains and we have no way of knowing how many times it could happen again because we sacked nearly everyone who knows this sort of thing" wasn't one of them.

I almost feel like the 911 operator was in disbelief. If he cou of actually see how close the car was to the end of the road maybe he would have shouted to put the thing in neutral, which a Toyota automatic will allow you to do at any speed. That was Darwin award tier.
