Old:>>1474071Anything about public transport in Switzerland, Austria and Germany is fair game.
Darum immer schon beim Einsteigen aufpassen.
Apparently there will be an additional train per hour between Neumünster and Kiel, as well as an extra stop between Neumünster and Bordesholm. The third train per hour would probably serve as a connector to the RE Kiel/Flensburg-Hamburg, thus serving the same purpose as the RB77 did before being replaced by the splitting RE7.
>>1563068Was SH already ITF'd before this, or is that new?ITF was genuinely the most important shift around where I live.It turned a system with nothing but intentionally designed connections and rare "happy accidents" into a system where you have connecting trains and buses everywhere all the time. With Deutschlandtakt and "TEE" that success project is getting taken to the next stage.
>>1563242I think it has been fairly common at Kiel and Lübeck central stations, as well as Neumünster, for quite some time.

looks like Stuttgart 21 is making progress. but how well can Deutschlandtakt be integrated with just having 8 tracks available in the new station? bus captcha is pretty fitting for this board, just as a side note.
>>1572001less dwell time due not having to reverse, less terminating trains, and the original station will keep some tracks running.
>>15720018 tracks is a lot when trains pass through, not terminating and switching around.
>>1572196The potential maximum throughput is still way less than with the old station. From a railway-scientific point of view the new subterranean station in Stuttgart is utter and complete nonsense. Now it absolutely needs to be completed, though.>>1572001I have heard people talk about S21 being incompatible with Deutschlandtakt, but I can't imagine the guys at BMVI being *that* stupid (>inb4 >).It certainly doesn't help, though, if you want to have trains in all directions at the ITF-nodes at the same time.It will probably turn out to be an extreme delay generator in Deutschlandtakt.

>>1581771There already is a nationwide card system. They haven't come around to place a balance on it.Also the infrastructure for checking in and out is missing. So it's only used to store commuter passes on them and some places allow you to more electronic tickets on THEIR version of the card.In the end nothing will get done because they'll cry about money laundering.

>>1582063>t. burgerIn that case: Your collection is fucking amazing. If that's in America, that's a 10/10 without a shroud of a doubt!DB Kursbücher regularly pop up on ebay. Maybe look there, if you are interested. For current Kursbuch info: http://kursbuch.bahn.de
I only have a 2016... departure book thing. It's not a Kursbuch, but I forget what it's called (and I forgot where I put it), but it has all the long distance train departures for every station except Hamburg Hbf and Altona. It's basically the Anfahrtsplan you see in every major station, but in a book.I also have the Übersichtskarten for both Germany and Europe from 2016. Not sure where I put them though...I bought both from the Bahnshop.de website.I also have a BVG map and BVG Atlas from 2016 too. I forget where I bought them from... maybe Alexanderplatz. The Atlas is more convenient though, especially for journey planning, since it's easier to work out where the actual bus stops are, particularly when transferring from rail to bus, especially given that sometimes the bus stops are not placed at opposite sides of the street. The Atlas was much more useful at times then the VBB App which I used when I lived in Berlin.
>>1582244I do have a few state railway timetable books (Bavaria 2016, Sachsen-Anhalt 2019, Hesse 2019), plus some scattered leaflets and booklets for various regional train lines. There's also the fact that many timetable books for individual cities and counties will contain the Kursbuch tables for the lines passing through the county, which is a big plus.
>>1579885This replacement consist is frequently used on RB48 (NRW), the wagons and the 111 are both owned by TRI. Both National Express Germany and TRI seem to be headed by massive Fuzzis, so it makes sense I guess, except for the poor people in wheelchairs. Catching that train still makes my day every time.
Speaking of 111s, RE4 is the last train in NRW to use 111s. It will be replaced by RRX this month, I've already seen some as test runs in revenue service. Can't say im too sad, since they were usually coupled with the most rancid Dostos available.

>>1583349no, sorry. I believe they're used whenever all the other trains are not available (for scheduled ? maintenance), so they're not constantly in service. When they are, they're easy to find because they only run the Wuppertal-Cologne service which only uses like 3 different trainsets anyway.
>>1583674>because they only run the Wuppertal-Cologne serviceI hardly pass through that area at the moment - also due to current circumstances -, but thanks for that info! Will be on the lookout!>>1582581>they were usually coupled with the most rancid Dostos availableI had grown to like them over the years to be honest. Not sad, but I'll still miss them. So, what makes DB so hillariously bad at beeing on time?I don't quite understand how a train aquires more than 10 minutes delay on a semi regular basis when there aren't unusual cirumstances.Especialy when on-time performance matters the most, DB is late. And that's ignoring somewhat predictable stuff like snow during winter. From all the trains I take, RB-20 (Euregiobahn, dieselmechanic light rail) has a tendency to be the absolute worst. On a good day it's 5-10 minutes late, on a bad day it arrives just before the next train is scheduled, on the wrong rail and DB only tells you when you can allready see the train arrive on the wrong side. What happened to "one can set the time by the trains"?And from my rather limited experience with the competition, some are even worse and some are acceptable.>>1582581Yea, RE-4 had REALY rancid rolling stock.Allways covered in graphity, often smelling like piss, at best ~30 years old and the LCD digit type displays often showed realy odd and wrong information.Still better than the usualy rather crowded RB-33 though. The new National Express RRX rolling stock is much nicer.Let's hope it's also more on time, same goes for the largely parallel running RB-33 that also recived new rolling stock, but is still under DB.I won't miss that terrible trashcan-sound these trains made...
The U5 metro will finally be built in Vienna. Might be finished this decade. Probably not.
>>1585535idk about the DB but sounds like management is just plain retarded and shits impossible to hold schedule.
Interesting>https://www.spiegel.de/auto/strassenbahn-warum-es-in-deutschland-tram-neubauten-schwer-haben-a-131d3393-3357-4148-9cda-4aab9d871b70tl;dr:Apparently NIMBYs in Germany don't like Trams, whereas they're a huge success all over France. That's weird. I mean I can understand the folks who are blocking (freight) train lines, because they're cutting through the landscape and make a lot of noise, but a Tram? If you're not making turns that are too thight, they're virtually silent and they're just much more pleasant to ride than busses.
>>1586131It's not NIMBYs, it's MIV-dependent guys, that don't want to have a tram on their road, since there are already traffic jams as it is. Imagine how much worse that gets once they have to share that space with a tram! For them it's more of a "not in my universe" kind of thing.Remember: Public transit is only for the scum that cannot afford a car, or cannot get a driver's license.I wish I was joking there, but MIV-dependent people actually think like that at large.I agree with tram >>> bus, but then you often hear that geezers would have to make more transfers, and that's unacceptable to them. So lines that ought have mostly connecting function suddenly get abused for coverage, which completely ruins average travel times.
>>1586177>Remember: Public transit is only for the scum that cannot afford a car, or cannot get a driver's license. But that's mostly a burger thing. Here in Germanland, even car users tend to at least have a neutral view towards the users of public transport. Those that are ranting about trains being filled with niggers (well, mostly turks in our case) ore a minority, that's only seen in online newspaper comments. Take Frankfurt (close to Wiesbaden, bigger and "grittier"), even bankers that earn a shitton of money use public transport there. I never saw as many expensive suits in one place as in the S2 during rushour in the central Frankfurt tunnel. Everyone must know some folks that take public transport and know how it really is (shitty, obviously, especially in the case of the S2, but nowhere near as shitty as online commenters would make you believe)

>>1579838I used to ride a line that 425 as RB/RE (got a donwgrade a few years back) and S-Bahn. Ironically, the S-Bahn ones were much nicer, as the RB ones were from the first lot that didn't get proper seat cushions. Horrible little things. Terribly loud power-electronics hitting the resonance frequency of the transhcan-lids repeatedly every time it accelerated. The noise of 50 aluminium trashcans and their lids rattling each other to death still haunts me.The S-Bahn ones also got a refurbishment that fixed their shitty lighting, which the old RB ones still suffer from. Lot one is 20km/h faster though. IF there's no leaves overwhelming the shitty brakes. Whover thought they could get rid of brakes on the middle bogie was a retard. Whover designed cheaped out on the ABS as well. Both together was a level of retard only DB is capable of.
>>1587775The 425s on "my line" got replaced (with 440s).Not gonna lie, the new ones are better, but the "Coladosen" weren't bad either. The trashcan-lids never really were a problem in my eyes/ears. There was a resonance like once in a blue moon, and that was it.Felt more like a characteristic happenstance than a regular annoyance.
>>1586410Düsseldorf nor plans on using technology:tm: and use intelligent traffic lights. doesn't cange the great bike protected lanes inside of the dooring zone or to narrow, eg illegal 50cm, bike paths. >>1586720I still chuckle at this one.
>>1587778You probably got the version with little rubber-bits in place. The fell off on the old ones.

Why can't newer ICE look as a good as the 1st generation?
My Oma used to live along the route of the Semmering line. I went for a ride along the line as a child but threw a fit when told we were simply catching the train back and forth, not going anywhere with it. Would be more appreciative now.
>>1586413Had one for Aachen years ago, people sadly voted against it.But there is some hope: http://www.aachen.de/DE/stadt_buerger/politik_verwaltung/pressemitteilungen/regio-tram_direkt.html
>>1591199Well, Aachen overall has a very decent bus network. Before Corona the buses got way too crowded, but both in terms of frequency and density of the network it's at the upper end in Germany. For buses there is absolutely no capacity left. It would have needed that tram to improve on that.Aachen unfortunately is about to suffocate. Add a few more cars in the morning, and it's in for a heart attack. That's why the refusal was utterly stupid, but if that is what the majority wants, that's okay. We live in a democracy. It was a major reason I moved away, though.

>>1597641Exactly, altough you need L3 for movable blocks. I can only speak for the efficacity from my Norwegian point of view, but I assume these are somewhat universal.Advantages:>Shorter safety distances for conflicting right of ways which makes it easier to achieve simultanious train movements (70 metres with release speed 20 km/h)>This means many old passing loops can have two trains entering at the same time from each direction >Gets rid of clickey-clackey logic boys - better uptimeDisadvantages:>More conservative braking curves, espacially for freight trains>Mostly lower permitted speeds for all trains through curves
