At what point did you realize that "gravel bikes" are just what replaced front suspension hybrids when male inadequacy complex concluded that a front suspension hybrid is unacceptable?Think about it. You can't refute this.
bicycles are ALL more or less the same and don't matter
People under 100kg don't need front suspension to bike in the city faty
>>1488077>I don't need a sponge up front because I am a BAD ASS HARDMAN IN MY PAIN CAVE>but I need tires larger than 700x25 because uh, uh, well this is different because what if I want to go offroading?!?cringe

>>1488075Nah, that doesn't make any sense. Male inadequacy complex steers people away from road-looking bikes and into mtb-looking ones, so it should work the other way around.

Nothing to do with hybrids. Gravel bikes are just the latest iteration of the old French randonneuse.

I'll have you know I've been to numerous gravel rides and you don't want to be riding something that will punch through the surface when you're going above 40 km/h.
Front suspension is just extra maintenance. Large tire should provide enough confort unless you're doing downhill stuff on the mountain. Also gravel bikes and hybrid are totally different market

I'd be inclined to claim that gravel bikes are just the modern continuation of rigid MTBs but they're still too similiar to road bikes in frame geometry and seating position, so in my eyes they do fill a new space of getting along swiftly on a variety of surfaces, it's just that they're currently still horrendously overhyped and anything to do with them and bikepacking is horrendously overpriced.

Gravel bikes aren't as effortless to ride on the road as road bikes, they're not as capable on tracks as mountain bikes, but they do both well enough to serve as single bike allrounders.

>>1540702post bike.
>>1540705>inb4 "but 40mm tires are really soft and springy!!!"No they're fucking not, and you could only possibly think otherwise if you're migrating from a road bike with 25mm rubber bands. Any sort of rigid short of a fatbike maybe is a rattlefest on cobblestone.

Gravel bikes always look like a meme to me. Drop bars and rigid fork are not practical for city or non-paved roads. It's basically just a road bike with wider tires.
>>1573246It's kind of shocking just how harsh and unpleasant the ride of hybrid tyres and cheap hybrid frames are the fork is a cope to compensate for this. you don't know what you're missing out on

>>1573263What does city riding mean? filtering traffic?
>>1573268Pretty much anything other than riding in a bike lane. You need to be able to look around easily and make quick maneuvers to avoid hitting/getting hit by something/someone, which would be easier to do with flat bars.

Honestly I just got a gravel bike 2 weeks ago and I dont regret a single thing. For people like me in a country like Ireland where none of the roads I cycle on are paved a hybrid is amazing to use.
