Are there any genres you absolutely cannot get into despite knowing there are legitimately good artists/groups in the genre?
>pic related
No matter how hard I try to listen to Ska with an open mind, it is quite literally the only genre that gives me the same feeling as a bad drink.

If you don't like Streetlight you're a fool

Crackrocksteady if you're nasty

But the best ska is when ska is incorporated into other music, not when it's the main focus

>But the best ska is when ska is incorporated into other music, not when it's the main focus

For those wondering, this is why the tourist meme exists. If you still don't understand, imagine somebody saying this but instead of saying "ska" they said "[your favorite genre]".
>>
>>96390719
I just rather listen to dub or punk, the brass does nothing for me
>>
>>96390757
you could try to say it about other genres, but it wouldn't be true
>>
Die hard fans of Ska are probably the worst sort of fans of any genre of music to deal with, prove me wrong
I would much rather deal with a Pop-Country or Contemporary-Pop fan than a diehard Ska fan
>>
>>96390832
Do they exist?
>>
>>96390950
I used to be one in highschool. There's good stuff: The specials, toots & the maytals, early Madness, Hub City Stompers, Streetlight/Catch 22, some Rancid, Op Ivy....stay AWAY from Reel Big Fish & most other 3rd wave garbage
>>
this genre pisses me off, either do jazz or punk, the mix of each simply doesnt work and comes off as a simple novelty or combining genres
>>
>>96391255
big band too
>>
>>96390590
ska punk is the only good ska
>>
>>96390590
yeah i agree the only album that sounds ska and is good is telephone free landslide victory. and obviously that isn't pure ska
>>96390832
>>96390950
there are some passionate, defensive sublime fans. at least there were in the early '00s
>>
>>96391341
Sublime is trash so you should check out some of the bands I mentioned>>96391225

If you're not just shitposting
>>
>>96391341
Majority of Sublime fans came on once they became famous, and once their Ska aspect was only peppered in
>>
>>96390590
You're just a Little Bitch
>>
>>96391364
nah sublime is alright you're just a bitter loser
>>
>>96391562
Sublime is the band for people who never listened to any other ska or reggae and couldn't even tell you the difference between the 3 waves

There's no such thing as good ska-

On a serious note, I hold the same disdain for the genre as you but this album is by far the most tolerable and dare I say enjoyable ska album I've come across.

also fuck Streetlight Manifesto and fuck The Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
only person I've ever met in real life that likes these bands was a smelly incel who looks like he browses /u/.
>>
>>96391726
Sublime is barely even ska, like a handful of their songs can be considered ska.
>>
>>96391852
Exactly
>>
Ska is fun to listen to and that’s pretty much the only appeal I get from it

pop punk with ska dashed in

>>96390590
Ska is awful, always has been. Fuck that Mario party main menu sounding shit.
I really hate nu metal and post hardcore. Also rap metal/rock is just terrible. Disco is trash. Kpop is ridiculously bad and anyone in the west who likes it is either an autistic coomer or an autistic 13 y/o girl.

THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU DON'T USE YOUR BRAIN
>>
>>96392963
Hell YES! I thought I was the only person here who has listened to s/t
>>
>>96391903
you didn't make the point you think you made
>>
>>96393303
You don't know what point or points i think i made

Checkmate
>>
only good derivatives of ska is 2 tone, ska punk, and reggae rock fusion. 100% ska is just mad boring to listen to
>>
>>96394210
>implying oldschool Jamaican Ska like Broadway Jungle isn't choice as fuck
>>
>>96390590
What type of ska do you -think- you might like, OP?

The old Jamaican stuff from the 1960s, the second wave of ska in England and elsewhere during the 1980s, or the third wave punk infused American skater kid stuff?
>>
>>96391429
One two!
>>

Props for AJB, I wish I could've seen them play when they were in Cali within the last few years. MMB's kick ass though.

The one album Slapstick put out in the late 90s is actually pretty good. Every song is brisk and punctual.

Based on what I have seen about ska on this board, most people say they don't like it, apart from this album though.
