>>88333118
next thread I'll switch em just for you
>>
>>88333158
i like DADFAD because it's really really full sounding, and because it's pretty much the easiest way to play triads on guitar. also you can get chords with really pretty extensions if you leave the top two strings unfretted and then play chords on the lower strings.
>>
>>88333210
DADFAD is also based. I'd stay in open tunings more often if I gave up on playing metal or if my theory knowledge was a little better. As it is I barely understand anything I'm doing in standard, messing it all around in non-standard tunings makes my little peanut brain hurt
>>
im looking for some good resources for intermediate jazz theory. i know fluently scale tone chords, arpeggios and modes and all that stuff and can improvise well over simpler progressions but im not sure where to go from here. any suggestions? i dont know shit about theory.

i'm an absolutely horrible instrument player(piano, guitar, bass, you name it) with an ear that exists and some theory knowledge.
somehow that still puts me at the core of my band to the point where most of the time it's like i'll just be fucking around on guitar with chords and that apparently becomes the song, or like i'll play some weird chords on the keyboard and throw them into the sequencer, and then that'll become the song.
i feel so utterly incompetent but somehow my slipshod knowledge in a bunch of different areas makes me functionally musical compared to people who have literally never picked up their instrument

I mean lets be real, even musicians playing classical instruments where they're expected to be able to understand a decent amount of theory and sight read etc like brass woodwind or orchestral instruments, none are really comparable to guitar in terms of applied theory except for piano, and even then on a piano a 3rd octave Bb is always the same key, whereas guitar that same note can sometimes be played in 3 or 4 positions which really just mucks the whole thing up. And honestly in 99% of settings where someone will be playing guitar, theory knowledge is not going to be expected. I've played for 12 years and the only time I've ever applied theory was in jazz band. The last 1% where that knowledge is expected is in jazz combos and session musicians really. I just feel the need to know a ton of theory is totally overblown by the guitar community as a whole

>>
>>88333968
That's definitely it kek, punk doesn't exactly have a high bar of entry as far as skill and knowledge goes. Although some bands are pretty underrated, especially in the sheer physicality involved. Most guitarists' right hands would fall off trying to make it through an entire Trap Them set, including me

Theory is so hard on guitar that guitarists gave up on it. A shame, because a fucking nine string metal plank with intonated frets, a locking tremolo, and broad/flat response active pickups is the ideal plucked string instrument only missing a bow accessory for more tonal diversity. Near acoustic sound, next to no noise, tons of range and polyphony to play with. It's basically a baby chapman stick at that point.

And such things are just used to djent in tune better and overdrive tube preamps harder
>>
>>88334414
if you gave a guitarist a piano they'd just hit the lowest A in an odd time signature and occasionally slide down the bench and play a major 7 add 9 chord for dramatic effect
>>
>>88334259
don't worry bud, I did the same thing with RHCP songs when I was 14 and first learning. Everyone sucks at first, it just feels cool to create a recording for the first time
>>
>>88334414
Guitarists should be forced to start on piano before moving to guitar, just like people who want to play saxophone often are forced to start on clarinet

You need that linear base to better understand theory
>>
>>88334291
Cool thanks will do

>>88334324
Yeah ur not wrong I just can never figure out anything harder than 4/4/ time

>>88334376
Yes
>>
>>88334448
Or just stop tuning guitars to cowboy/spaniard tuning and go with all fifths like any other string instrument that's used by serious musicians
>>
>>88334448
I started on piano and I didn't magically get theory. What you need to do is just know the names of the notes and know the pattern of the fretboard like the back of your hand, and it takes a while.

And don't use tabs.
>>
https://vocaroo.com/i/s1eJxqmGj1xe

How the fuck do I eq these guitars /gg/ I have my vox amped and going into a focusrite 2i4 and I'm using Ableton as my daw but everything I record sounds like the inside of a tin can
>>
>>88334448
Clarinet to saxophone works because of the embouchure, fingerings, and sheer music are all extremely similar. A high level clarinetist will be able to also play saxophone at, at the very least, a decent level. Learning to shred on a piano won't mean you can shred on guitar, because the technique involved is very different. Theory I mean sure but all the theory in the world isn't worth much when you can't apply it. You could learn them concurrently but even then why split the effort.
>>
>>88334607
What is this tone? It's warm, and vintage.
>>
>>88333715
Jazz players, session guys, and prog rock/prog metal lead players are the only real guitarists.

Everyone else is just wanking with pentatonic boxes.
>>

>>
>>88335111
As far as music in general goes, they're average

It's just that most guitarists are so much worse
>>
>>88335156
Their technical ability is far, far above average
>>
>>88335169
For guitar players.
>>
mustangs sound like shit
>>
>>88335195

Yeah you could definitely use a better mic, like an sm57 if you're trying to stay cheap

>>88339918
Practice scales slowly then quickly. If you can shred scales and arpeggios people will think you're God tier even though you're not.

>>88339413
Based and redpilled.

>>88338264
Their solos might be hard for a beginner, but the main riffs are the sweet spot of baby tier difficulty with some neat little finesse parts to keep you practicing, like back in black. Anyone with half a brain can stomp the power chords, the hammer on/pull offs might stump you for a week but itll feel really good when you nail them.

>>
>>88340262
That and the Amherst are the two pedals I'd pick if I could only use 2. It's great for practicing and fleshing out ideas and the layout is much better than the small boss loopers I think
>>
>>88340337
I swear by the Boss BD-2 and the RV-5. I'd genuinely have 4 copies of the Blues Driver on my pedalboard if I had the money
>>
>>88340392

Blues drivers are pretty gnarly I almost bought one used at guitar center but I got a good price on the Westwood so I went with that
>>
>>88340433
I work at a small-town music store and we carry the fender line of pedals. I've played on and sold a couple of the fender reverbs and you can't go wrong with it. Its a phenomenal pedal. So really both of your options (RV-5/6 or Fender Reverb) are going to be great purchases
>>
If I want to learn bass should I just learn how to play guitar first?

If I want to learn to play the triangle should I just learn how to play the piano first?

Yes, ebay is your friend with this. When I started out, a lot of my pedals were used and bought off of ebay. It provides a cheap entry to playing half-decent pedals
>>
>>88340975
How'd you like the Mooer pedal? I've always been interested in them but have never found the motivation to buy one/try one
>>
>>88341002

for some people a rounder and smaller radius like a strats makes fretting chords easier, whereas a wider and flatter board would allow for easier shredding because it's easier to fret/pick individual notes and string skip and whatnot. it's a matter of preference

If you have the budget go for a Fender Blues Junior, 15 watts of pure bulb warming power, actually Jimmy Page used Fender Jr to récord some studio songs because of not only the size but the perfect sound that comes from such well made amp.

neither of these amps have any gain at all, and way too much twang and sparkle.

get an all tube marshall, orange, or peavey.

>>88342491
ask a classical guitarist

the curvy fretboards are basically optimized for rock and roll rhythm guitar to the point where bends choke out and it's awkward to play
>>
>>88342491

It's a matter of preference again, you will get familiar to your common and probably standard frets with the time yet Fender strats were well known for having the tiny fretboard and allowing to pick with your thumb as Hendrix did who played most of the bass strings 6th and 5th with such finger but only Hendrix could because he had that hands and is not only a great guitarist but also has an enormous cock.
>>
>>88342594
It is objectively faster for the right hand and easier to fret single notes though

How many people are playing classical guitar on a 7.5" radius again? That shit is so you can slide barre chords up and down while drunk and still sound clear.
>>
>>88342591

No gain at all, muzt b sum kindda retarded metal player with an Ibanez, dude... Blues Fender Junior is awesome for starters and even to keep it around for a 8 track simple recording, you asking for a Marshall head with tubes and the Blues Jr is already tubes without spending 1000 buckz more, you just went worst when suggesting Orange, eewwww.

No gain, I mean ez on the pedals... Faggot.

Alright, for those who were even slightly interested, here is the backing track for this weeks /communitywank/

This week's theme is /cleanwank/

https://instaud.io/3NWT

Players of all skill levels and ability are welcome to throw some sweet sweet leads over this track for all to see. I'll be posting this once per thread until Sunday.

On Sunday I'll have downloaded all the tracks others have posted and put them all in one post for all of /gg/ to enjoy. Then on Monday, if people are still interested, either I or some one else can do a backing track in a different style, and we'll do it again.

The guy wants to go for a Mustang it means he on budget yet you come with Marshall heads of high wattage that cost like $2000 alone and need cabins to actually get the profit, theres no best Marshall head than JTM-45 that is Hendrix head réplica not only with the same tubes but also the wiring, with a set up 69 pick ups from Fender you will actually nail his sound, I always wanted that head but dont have the money, Fender Blues Jr is awesome and above average for starters but if he really not going to take all the advantages any other 15 watts box wll do even solid state I guess Roland clubes not bad.

Ray Vaughan uses tube screamer and is less dirty but Hendrix was a dirty and actually really bad teacher if you want to see it that way yet I will go for a sun face with NKT or his Fillmore B101 circuit still I have used a dallas arbiter fuzz with NKT and I like it just the same, sun face are the best pedals around. Maybe a Dejavibe good too.
