It's not dead, it's where it should be, only available for advanced internet users.

Sure, but a huge aspect of the formerly communal nature of this board was discovering music via the sharing of mediafire links

Its rhe worst board because theres constantly someone seething, and you cant discuss shit without elitism or absolutely retarded takes, or someone getting offended that you liked something somehow
Then there are the people enetering threads just to say "band bad, fuck you" adding nothing to the discussion
>>
>>118331663
>/pol/
/pol/ retards sometimes have shit takes on the music side of things but they had several positive effects on the board. Bullied away the last remaining indie faggots who were responsible for embarrassing shit like The Microphones dominating the board for a decade. Bullied embarrassing commie kids into shutting the fuck up for once. General increase in respect for more "masculine" music, which, the quality of the music aside, was a necessary adjustment to such a fucking unbelievably hyper-estrogenic cucked board as /mu/ was.

>death of piracy
pretty sure anyone on here who's not a zoomie is on slsk. Streaming has definitely damaged the importance of albums as an art form over and above single songs though, which is really awful.
>>

Oh also, bullied hip hop faggots into silence obviously. Fuck hip hop.
>>
>>118332006

>>
>>118332090
>self insert
You aren't using that correctly. But no, my issue was more that, being dominated by liberal hiveminders, the board was really just an offshoot of music critic culture and had no real taste of it's own. It was a purely social expression in true lib fashion. Not about actual taste in music, purely about fitting in with a group, pure gatekeeping for social dopamine hits. No respect for music. Hence old /mu/core being mostly a bunch of really really garbage music, and a few actual classics that they had to accept to keep their suspension of disbelief going.

>>118332093
I'm here a lot. It's nice if you're not depending on it too hard for all your social stimulation. Just throw a post in the void, leave the tab open, and come back in a few hours. If you make a real genre focused thread and make some good reccs to start it off it goes pretty well - better than it used to since the kind of people I've described at length now are gone.

I do not mind this the slightest. It's a good entry point, everyone starts listening to music somewhere, and listening to popular critically acclaimed music is a good start.
If someone doesn't want to go further then so what? I think it's fun to see people discussing music no matter what their reason is for it
>>
>>118332135

>>
>>118332142
Popular or entry level music is not the issue. Critic culture and the sub culture it creates in a place like this is.

>I think it's fun to see people discussing music no matter what their reason is for it
agree but old /mu/ wasn't discussing music they were working out the social currency of music which is lame. Though I guess I'm guilty of that too. It's hard not to make a thread or post now and then about how happy it makes me to see people finally waking up to how embarrassing it is to be a person who listens to hip hop.

It seems that your problem is not being able to accept that there are people who think and like different things, and when they talk from their perspectives you automatically think "these people don't understand music" or "surely they only care about politics and not music", etc. . Instead of trying to analyze or discuss what is being talked about, that is the mindset that kills communities like this

Original thought is hard but I know you can do it anon. And as I said, dead /mu/ (it's not even that dead as I also said so who cares anyway) is better than poptimist, indie, hip hop /mu/.

You're everything that's wrong with /pol/ on this board.
You want to censor music and people you don't like by aggression
You put politics before music and rate it on an ideological basis
There's still lots of indie, hip hop, pop, coom and celebrity worship threads ... and some are good threads
The simple truth is that the board is slower because of streaming, slsk, discord, tik tok, narrow user demographic and a general failure to keep up technically
Throwing /pol/ buzzwords like cuck, liberal hivemind, lib fashion etc etc around as if you represent any improvement

/mu/ isn't a hitler youth camp for approved musical culture

>>118332123

You're not better than any of the leftist morons you're fixated on.
>>
>>118331855
They're flyover threads, relegated to always be the thing you have to scroll past to get to where you want to be. The best strategy is to post new interesting threads, and there's plenty of genres and topics worthy of active discussion that are rarely or never brought up.

Music is objectively irredeemable now and has been for over 20 years since the Telecommunications Act of 1996 under Clinton. Clear Channel (now iHeart) bought up all the radio stations and instituted a stifling conformity in the sorts of music they played. This is how radio went almost overnight from playing to s mix of rap and alt rock to playing Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Nysnc, and Christina Aguilera. If you were alive in 1996-1998 the change was absolutely palpable.
>>
>>118337407

I was probably here before you. There was always obnoxious leftism here. It wasn't triggered in every single thread by opposing opinions like it is now, but it was always here and used to be totally dominant which made the board pretty terrible because those people have terrible taste.
>>
>>118338278
That's a lot of assumptions all of which are wrong and display a low IQ and/or emotionally triggered inability with reading comp. Consider why you're so triggered over things I didn't even say. Get a hold of yourself loser.
>>
>>118337241
Assuming you're the same person in all the posts I referenced, which I think you are, then you undeniably did. You said multiple times that people used the music for social purposes, so I don't need to quote that. But you also said:
>General increase in respect for more "masculine" music, which, the quality of the music aside, was a necessary adjustment to such a fucking unbelievably hyper-estrogenic cucked board as /mu/ was.
Quality of the music aside, so the music doesn't matter to you either as long as it achieves something else for you in the general makeup of the board, which is a social thing rather than music based. Arguably more important though is that all of your claims are completely incorrect. For one, there was more widespread metal discussion, traditionally a more masculine genre, back then than there is now. You've been wrong throughout the whole thread.
>>
>>118338792
No I am. He's the person who made the last post you responded to which was not me.

It means iheart has had a monopoly on radio since the mid 90s. They wanted to make their programming incredibly bland (catering to the average person, lowest common denominator) because appealing to the widest audience possible is easier than building a niche brand of fickle but loyal autists. Record companies responded by pumping out the most generic shit possible.
The same shitty philosophy eventually spread to TV and film. You make more money by casting the widest net and making generic media that superficially appeals to everyone. Alt rock stations literally died overnight.

The fact of the matter is there's only so much you could say about music as a simple fan before you've run the well dry. This board sustained itself through two main things, and that is its more social dimension with the tripfag/namefag cult of personality, and the once impressive rate of OC being produced. Those types of people moved on from being attracted to this place and are more likely to hang around on other social media platforms, and the drought in Original Content is something that is unfortunately prevalent in 90% of the website. Underaged posters also fly by a lot easily these days, there's no real entry bar that is set anymore. When's the last time you've seen a new inside joke that was exclusive to this board take off?
I guess the lack of excitement around music is part of it as well, because you're not as involved in the process as much as you once were, even if it was only illusory. This place's heyday was when it had a semblance of an influence on what was perceived as "hip" music on the internet, with it being a sort of general hub for under the radar artists, and it all died when the artists stopped bothering with /mu/ and therefore stopped entertaining the possibility of the /mu/ user doing his part, for lack of a better term. Now, you could argue that it's because of the industry co-opting any possible organic movement through its hegemony over the media, or that Discord killed that half-intimacy, or whatever, but it's dead and it ain't coming back here. /mu/ was a sort of online scene, but if you look around and notice how dead the supposed shill threads are, you'll put the emphasis on "was" in the previous sentence.
It just doesn't fit the new mold, and I don't know if there's any salvation on the horizon.

you're right, it has affected every group to a certain degree.
since the op is specifically talking about /mu/, i chose to exclude boomers since millennials and zoomers make up the bulk of this board. millennials could fall under my categories of "woketard" and "poltard" though i rarely see a millennial being the latter.

/mu/ is turbo boomer like subreddits Music and LetsTalkMusic, it did not change with times and didn't adapt to twitter stan culture and pop/hip-hop/trap music genres - got stuck at rock/metal instead
>>
Some good answers in here, in 2016 Reddit eradicated it’s conservative and/or racist subreddits while simultaneously many racist websites were taken down from the web in general leading to most of those people coming to 4chan transitioning it from a “bastion of free speech” to an edgier r/theDonald. This pretty much killed a lot of discourse on most boards as anons are constantly in a competition to prove the other anon is more conservative than the other.

Rock music is dead simultaneously so since anons are afraid to discuss hip hop/R&B and other genres of music that are actively being released they fixate entirely on boomer rock or seething at poptimism. There’s just not a lot to discuss and the knowledgeable people have probably mostly all but left for greener pastures.
