are whammy bars/tremolo arms useless and gay?
>>
>>116528392
they've been used by some great guitarists but I'd be lying if I said they didn't have a track record of being gay
>>
i'd say the entire instrument is
>>
>>116528392
no they are objectively useful for pitch bends
>>
>>116528392
please stop calling them "whammy bars" and "tremolo arms".
>>
they are awesome but majority of guitar players aren't good enough to have them. you should be required to audition before a council of REAL players before being allowed to own or use a guitar with a whammy bar
>>
yeah op its called the vibrator. but yeah, useless
>>
>>116528392
real chads bend the neck

Zoogz used a tremolo bar. And Zoogz was a god.

no it didn't they were a complete nobody band you stupid zoomer they would have made more money running shifts at taco bell
>>
>>116528392
I used to think so but then I saw Gilmour use it for some very sexy vibrato and bends and I don't think so anymore.
>>
>>116529475
what the fuck should we call them then? It's a fucking whammy bar.
>>

Based Zoogz poster strikes again. You ever hear much John Trubee?
>>
>>116532042
NTA, but Trubee's solo work is great. Thanks for reminding me of it. And the best thing is he's someone who isn't afraid of being "cringe." You can feel the sincerity of his angst when you listen to When My Ship Rolls In. No need to hide it behind some cryptic lyrics.

They give the strings a springier response, I like that about them, and the expression you can get out of them, but even when properly set up tuning stability can be sus
They're fine
>>
>>116528392
EVH took it to a whole new level and now it's a pedestrian old fad
>>
They’re good for light vibrato, especially on some 7th chords. But I feel it’s not worth how much harder a trem system makes it to bend strings. It also fucks up a lot of licks where one string gets bent and another is played normally at the same time - the normal string goes down in pitch and it ends up sounding like shit.
Don’t even get me started on the floyd rose shit

Fr?

I bought a guitar with one of those George Floyd tremolos and I cannot figure out how to restring the fucking thing. Fucked it up twice, then I lured over my friend who's actually good at guitar, he tried to string it and also fucked up.
>>
Idk if they belong in "tasteful" guitar playing, but I still kinda dig that over the top Slayer horse whinny thing.
I've also heard Jeff Beck do some pretty cool things with his whammy arm.
