what band/album do you find incredibly pretentious but most people seem to praise? for me it's definitely GYBE
>>116527111Everything regularly posted here
>>116527111Talk Talk is probably the most collectively overjerked artist on the board
literally all post-rock.literally all sample-heavy ""midwest"" emo.that Avalanches album that came out a few years back.
>>116527111gotta be soundtracks for the blind. i love a lot of swans, pre and post hiatus, but if that album got released as a "b-sides and oddities" collection i don't think I would have noticed the difference
Anything by this goyslop label
>>116527188Yeah 80's Newwave is so pretentious and avant-garde
>>116527260WWALY gets shat on more than any other avalanches album
>>116527111I was pretty dissapponted by The Bands first album.
>>116527419the fact that anyone ever liked it boggles my mind. it's not unlistenable earrape or anything, but i genuinely felt embarrassed listening to it when it came out. the record is overly sentimental in a way that makes me pity it. like i'm supposed to feel hyped or nostalgic or whatever while all i feel is boredom. really a shame as i expected to love it.
>>116527484Yea its a shame. I really liked wildflower too, one of the last albums i feel that has a hopeful aura around it
nothingface by voivod is the worst shit i have ever heard in my life
>>116527188fuck u bitch
>>116527778Listen to Die Kreuzen
>>116527778I like the band Nothingface much more, based
>>116528146Yeah, they're worse
>>116527111they are okay but definitely are pretentious with their overdramatic sound>>116527188yeah, their original pop hit is better than the post rock stuff>>116527424does not insist upon itself, although I will say their songwriting is a little overrated>>116527524yes>>116527778NO!!! one of the best metal bands>>116527858they songs are a lot cooler than those of anyone that tries to emulate their style, but yes
>>116527111Nearly everything under prog and whatever it influenced (indie, postrock etc.)>>116527188I honestly almost never hear anyone on this board talk about Talk Talk
>>116527111The avalanches since I left you
>>116529702This honestlyIt's not bad but it's really nothing spectacular either
pretentiousness is GOOD in rock music. take the best rock album of all time, DSOTM by Pink Floyd, for instance. if it wasn't pretentious it would suck. rock as an art form is inherently pretentious. if it's not pretentious, I don't wanna hear it, it probably fucking sucks
>>116527111Anything you have to listen 7 times to for you to “finally get” is actually just giving you musical Stockholm syndrome.
>>116529702>>116529808>>116529839STOP PHONEPOSTINGAND STOP POSTING FUCKING METACRITIC FOR MUSIC
>>116529861Literally not an argument.
>>116529907STOP POSTING TWITNIGGERS
I love him but mf doom is the literal definition of insisting upon oneself
Can is really boring. Don't know what everyone's hearing that's making them lose their mind
>>116530012The fact he raps about food and wears an anime mask makes it super apparent why his main demographic is beta male whites
>>116529839Yeah, I think it's this. The poem concept is contrived and I hate it more year after year and the fact that it ends in a circlejerk interview with tupac is incredibly pretentious.
>>116528277>>116527858With Death Grips it doesn't feel like it's pretentious music, but it's the reaction to the music that is pretentious.
>>116527111Tool, Rage Against the Machine, and Radiohead.
>>116527858I liked them in Highschoop bu5 the appeal runs thin after a while. >>116532709Tool were like the worst Nu Prog Band and Nu Prog was already kinda both unnecessary and prettymuch entirely bad so thats quite the statement. Definitely right about that.
>>116532750>I liked them in Highschoopunderage b&
>>1165271111950s rock n roll: the most genuinely unpretentious music of the past century. Find one song with any pretence. you can't. Every single song exists to create a knee-slapping good time.
Is Craig pretentious?
>>116527111Tool. Their lyrics are 15-year-old-"i just read my first philosophy ya'll" tier
>>116530033Dr Doom is from an American villain
>>116527111Darn it seems like people already mentioned Slint and Talk Talk
Imagine complaining about “pretentiousness” in music in current year… What better way to make yourself look like a gentrified Brooklynite with a mustache and fixed gear bicycle complaining about the most recent Band of Horses album in 2008? Complete faggotry. If you can’t enjoy music unless it’s inclusive, accessible, inoffensive, and not too white, then you’re on the wrong board and should go get a job at Condé Nast and join their DEI committee. Pretentiousness and elitism are increasingly rare in music, and should be preserved as a buffer against Globohomo.
