holy quads, certainly one of their best but not one of the best 2000's albums period
>>
>>115495555
Whether you like it or not, it was undeniably very important to American society at the time. Goddammit, you have quads though. I kneel.

Poor men's The Black Parade/Black Holes & Revelations
>>
>>115495195
great album, it won't make into
the top 25 of 00's though
>>
>>115495555
If you weren't listening to it on your ipod mini coming home from middle school to iraq war coverage on tv it won't hit like it did back then. nice quads tho.

It's not, but it's one of those albums that really encapsulated the feeling of the era. Anger towards the government, clear societal decay and loss of trust compared to just a few years earlier, bleak atmosphere, etc. >>115496420 kind of has a point about it really, it's an album that takes you back to a very specific point in time. Demon Days and Hail to the Thief also have a similar thing going on, they're not albums that I'd say were the best of the 2000s but if I want to feel like Bush is president and every news segment starts with coverage about Iraq then I'll give one of them a listen.
>>
>>115495195
bullet in a bible version is even better. if i could go to any concert in history it would be that one in the documentary
>>
>>115497728
This. There should be something like an "It's 2005 and everyone hates Bush and the Iraq War"-core.
>>
>>115498260
It was such a brief period sandwiched in between ooh rah let the bodies hit the floor nu metal bro core and obama era chillout indie hipster core. It probably only really spanned between mid '04 to '07 at the latest.
>>

I went. It was a good day except for Taking Back Sunday being boring as shit.

Leave it to foreigners to be fucking dumb as all fuck

>ok it might not have been good but it was IMPORTANT
ok? it still sucks dick
>>
>>115498293
Yeah exactly, until 2004 the anger wasn't really there yet and by 2008 nobody gave a shit anymore because he was out of office anyway. I remember it really kicked off in 2005 after the response to Hurricane Katrina, but it was already starting to well up before then. 2004 - 2007 was like this weird cultural moment where everyone was pissed the fuck off and shit like Demon Days, Hail to the Thief, and American Idiot served as the soundtrack. I'm sure there are other examples but those are the ones that immediately come to mind when I think of that backlash era.
>>
>>115497728
You say this as if nobody is angry at the government and society isn't decaying as we speak.
>>
>>115498299
damn thats amazing man i would give so much to have been there
>>
>>115499560
it sure is, but the overall feel is pretty different. Most people are just sedated and apathetic as fuck, and instead of protesting or making vindictive art, most people are just consooming and making memes as a cope mechanism. IT really feels like there's no hope so most people's response is kinda "whatever man..."
>>
It's been how long? And I still can't listen to American Idiot as a song since maybe 2007. That or Broken Dreams. Holy shit, maybe the two most overplayed songs of my teenage years.
>>
>>115499560
I didn't imply that at all, the anger was just very directed towards the president at the time, now it seems like it doesn't have a real target. Thanks for putting words in my mouth though.
>>
>>115498332
Based off of personal experience, to me it didn't seem vogue to hate Bush until his second term kicked in. Not saying the man WASN'T criticized in a public fashion during his first run, but by the time his second came around, the Iraq War, how how he handled Katrina, the patriotic ground swell that rose in 2001 was beginning to die out. I just remember being glad when his second term was finally up, not because I disliked the guy, but it mean we'd finally end "BUSH BAD", which I was already tired of hearing in 07', as a teenager, where the internet and social media wasn't even 1/4th of what it was today.

There's some shitty rock radio in my country where they play the fucking americna idiot song like twice or thrice every fucking day. That and Von Jobi. It's torture

It wasn't the best gig I've ever been to, but it definitely felt like an event. Hard-Fi opened and they were alright. I was just happy that it meant I wouldn't have to sit through Simple Plan. Jimmy Eat World were fantastic too.
>>
>>115500631
It was very decent. Not great. Had some good stuff on it. Probably their last album worth any sort of a damn.
>>
>>115499810
Katrina was def the big turning point where even the independents and all but the staunchest republicans were getting sour on bush.
>>115499810
Yeah the bush bad stuff was annoying until trump bad made it look quaint in comparison. and tbf bush was bad just in a more complex way than "le oil war republican"
>>115500631
21 guns wasn't a bad song to soundtrack your exit of your high school years if american idiot was your freshman year anthem

yes. the first truly genuinely horrible green day album. warning was boring but not ear grating and american idiot is hit or miss but culturally relevant.

this album was also the start of every single green day release from then-forward was terrible

The government is ALWAYS evil and society is ALWAYS decaying though. There are just certain watershed moments that inspires a movement of art against it, like Vietnam or Iraq. Or Cambodia, to a lesser extent.

I was there for all that. We were listening to Underoath, AFI, Killswitch Engage, Bring Me the Horizon, Neopets, some serious classics. My friend had an American Idiot CD and we made fun of him. I think it’s alright today. I still prefer Kerplunk.
>>
>>115502316
Never listened to the whole album but I love Say It Right.

It was their proper sell out album. The band got a taste of it when Good Riddance blew up and saved Nimrod's album sales, but when their follow up Warning released, a album still kind of "in line" with their older stuff, it flopped bad for the band. So they captured what was the zeitgeist of rock music at the time (pop punk/rock) and just make their dumb, overblown, "concept album", political thing. Also marked a weird evolutionary end point for the band, as they've just basically just attempted to repeat the sound of this album numerous times since.
