Is there any music you are genuinely scared of listening to because you think it'll cause you to spiral into depression?

Reminds me of my grandma in pain, coming from the lyrics

there's a lot worse but it's not good foe mental health

no, because if you're not a depressed person, then "depressing" music just sounds like dull pretentious shit, you have to be depressed beforehand or at least mentally prone to depression for it to actually work on you. Shit like this >>115481408 does nothing for me, it just sounds fucking boring.
>>
>>115481426
yeah all the shit I listened to at my most depressed feels embarrassing and empty when I'm better, most "depressing" music is very shallow and artless
it's different for music that actually stirs emotions like simon and garfunkel or kate bush or something
>>
>>115481462
a lot of this board likes to shit on sewerslvt but many of jvne's songs capture that
>things are fucked but they can get better
feeling perfectly
>>
>>115481309
Only stuff that does this to me is a couple of songs by Godspeed You Black Emperor
>>
>>115481462
>it's different for music that actually stirs emotions like simon and garfunkel or kate bush or something
I know exactly what you mean. There's sad music written just for sad people, then there's actual artists out there giving people emotions just on their writing and performance, not necesarilly bad or good emotions, they're just really good at performing.
>>
>>115481476
sewerslvt is the perfect example of completely empty "muh depression" music that's very cringe to listen to
just listen to silent hill music or fennesz or something for crying out loud
>>
>>115481480
exactly! the latter speaks to all of us and is much more powerful artistically
>>
>>115481309
Idk why but anytime I listen to nostalgic music it makes me a lot sadder than happy..... Probably because I didn't have the best childhood growing up but also sad that you'll never live those memories again
>>
>>115481478
I was gonna mention these guys, refuse to listen to them
>>
>>115481486
that's pretty dismissive of you but whatever
I doubt you listened to slowdeath, kawaii razor blades, jvnko loves you and others
or you heard it but didn't try to take any of it in
>>
There's something incredibly bleak about Broadcast. Doesn't help that the singer died young from pneumonia

I wouldn't say "scared" but I avoid it like the plague because I used to listen to it a ton when I was depressed and now it's ruined because I association it with those times.

Also I guess it's not really that good an album too.
>>
>>115481478
>Godspeed You Black Emperor
this pretty much. lyricless songs are the worst for this. your mind just does the rest.
Riceboy Sleeps absolutely kills me.
>>
>>115481504
I don't have to listen to someone's entire discography to know they're annoying and bad. there's so much good ambient out there, why are you defending sewerslvt? you don't have to defend every troon you know
>>
>>115481522
I don't care about idpol shit or the drama around the artist
I just look for music that captures that specific emotional intensity
there's a lot of copycats that clone the aesthetic but don't do anything impactful with it
>>
>>115481536
I'd moreso say sewerslvt is derivative and unoriginal but w/e, you're young right?
there's so much depressing electronic music that isn't some synths pad and a breakbeat man https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TLEvdgiKX6g
>>
>>115481536
>>115481547
I'm also not going to pretend the music isn't made worse for me by the horrid anime girl aesthetic and edgy poor taste things such as taking your name from junko goddamn furuta and then calling yourself "slut" at the same time
>>
>>115481309
beach house.
beach house because i used their music as an escape from depression and anxiety and cried a lot to their music. if i put them on, i get a flashback or ptsd.
>>
>>115481547
>you're young right?
at heart perhaps lol
Fennesz seems alright and I do like Silent Hill, Radiohead comes too mind as well
>>115481559
>horrid anime girl aesthetic
you must be relatively new here
the junko thing is trashy but if you've been here for many years you've seen worse
it's not like I'm gonna shout from the rooftops that I listen to this music
>>

Radiohead is definitely wallowing in your depression music yeah, I almost stopped liking them completely recently
I'll take that as a compliment, I've been here a few times since 2015 ish but always felt this place fucking sucks

Yeah I avoid a lot of darkwave, stuff that is too noise just for the sake of it, wailing and sobbing stuff like Radiohead, most metal also sounds too depressing to me, Portishead, that gothic post-punk that is all doom and gloom, ambient or experimental that is just schizo noise or howling synths.

It doesn't scare me, just don't really want to vibe with that because why would I
>>
>>115481607
don't do francis bacon like this man
>>
>>115481607
Also I avoid most music done or sung by women, because it's annoying, whiny, irritating, hysterical
>>
>>115481309
theres two musics that inevitably put me into cry zone so i avoid them. not depression cry they just touch my soul, one is tracy chapman, the other cat stevens.

For a while I used to skip this song because of how it utterly destroyed me every time. The rest of the album is really good, but nowhere near that impactful. Now I just think it's a very beautiful song, and it makes me happy how perfectly it's performed.
>>
i cant listen to crywank because it reminds of the two weeks i spent listening to crywank thinking i related to it
turns out i just like the sound if amateur guitarists
>>
Red House Painters
>>
>>115481624
what about Karen O?
>>
>>115481309
this shit is legitimately terrifying
>>
>>115481772
Cute song
>>
a couple soundgarden songs do that for me. fell on black days, zero chance, boot camp, blow up the outside world.
>>
Rap, country, the list goes on...
>>
>>115483465
for me it's Black Hole Sun
>>
>>115482371
This is probably the most morbid record in existence. Probably more bizarre than depressing though.
>>
>>115481309
I used to listen to a lot of NIN specifically The Downward Spiral but it started to take a toll on me because I was identifying with it too heavily. I still consider it great music but listening to it reminds me of a time when I was in a really bad place
>>
>>115483582
Came to post this. Downward Spiral is a fucked album
>>
throbbing gristle and shit like that, the fear doenst really stop me tho
>>
I spent many years listening to depressing shit (still do from time to time) but this is the only full album i can think of that could drag me down if i'm sad.

I can listen to a few songs on each of these albums, but if I listen to all of them....
