The rhythm part of it, yes. For the notes, very little guitar music is written in solely standard notation anymore just because of the ambiguity of finger position for any given note. It's normally a double chart with tablature and standard together.

>6 cheap shitplanks instead of 1 or 2 good guitars
cheap instruments have come a long way nowadays. I would rather have 10 harley bentons that cost sub $300 each than buy a single gibson for $3k. Most cheap stuff is really great and you can actually experience differences inbetween the instruments unlike all of the fancy brands that use the same expensive woods and pick-ups to some extent.

I own three basses that cost over $2k each and I have to admit that the best sounding one is a $600 Ibanez. Still love my Warwicks so I don't mind spending more for them but soundwise the cheap shit gets close, really fucking close and in some rare cases even surpasses.

Rice eater be damned Chinese guitars are kicking the shit outta USA makers and they need to step their game up. Brand recognition will only go so far.
>>
>>113749653
5ths and 4ths are complementary intervals, do you mean that? together they form one octave. If you ascend a fifth and then descent a fourth from that note, you'll end up with the root. easy to see on two guitar strings - play a C on the 2nd string, directly below is an G (same fret), the 5th of C. from G to C downwards it's a 4th.

regarding sharp notes - they notes go down a half step up or down so the structure of the scale doesn't change even when the root note does. Keep up the work, anon.
>>
>>113749653
Normal notes are the white keys on a keybaord. Sharp/flat notes are the black keys. Together all the white and black keys make the Chromatic scale; the difference between each note is one semitone. Sharp notes are one semitone higher than the natural note they are a sharp of, flat notes are one semitone lower. On guitar and piano, sharp and flat notes are not different to each other, so C sharp is the same as D flat. This is not the case on all instruments but you don't need to worry about that. (Also, on a guitar, each fret raises the pitch of a string by one semitone.)

this is terribly disingenuous, the piece I posted is in F# major, Losing My Religion is in A minor, so you should transpose either to match the other if you want to use that test

music theory sometimes feels like math, at one point, various concepts connect and it clicks. But if you really just start out: Learn pentatonic scales, then the major scale and everything else is pretty much a derivative of the major scale. forget people that say that you dont need theory, it will help you a lot long term and it just makes everything else easier. dont forget that bass is more of a rhythm sector instrument. so work on that too.

Yeah I understand this concept and I'm experiencing it now. Might try and write a how to guide soon after I've understood it because I still have the memory of the same retarded questions that no doubt others have.
>>
>>113750879
It's been done before, music textbooks try to and some other books outline it in other ways, but the reality is it's all case by case and builds upon everything else and is best suited to direct instruction. I'm very glad I had lessons in the past because building that critical mass without them is hard as shit.

For example, general best practice says that you can go from the root to the 5th but not the 4th below up to the root because the interval is dissonant. But you can, you just have to work into or out of it in ways that are pretty standardized and modern music is dissonant anyway so all you have to do is bury it under some leading tones or whatever. I've never seen that written out in full outside of interpretations of baroque counterpoint but even my half assed explanation will yield solutions after googling some terms and like an hour of fucking around with inversions of roots and 5ths/4ths.

I do wish there were a de facto standard book focused on guitar, the thing that makes it such a cunt to learn is that the tuning makes advanced shit like carrying 3+ voices easy to play but that doesn't help the beginner very much. Other instruments have reams of texts and studies, guitar has Segovia scales and studies from the romantic period like Fernando Sor and Tarrega. And I guess Ted Greene but for all the chord talk, he's thinking in parallel voices and the suggestion of chords in a progression rather than some extended version of a progression. I don't know, that's just my own musings on getting out of the beginner pit and into the wasteland of self study.
>>
Whenever I play chords in the lower frets, they sound all out of tune, even though the guitar itself is in tune. What causes this and how to fix? It'/s acoustic if that matters.
>>
>>113751184
How long did it take you to get to a comfortable point playing where you felt you began to have creative freedom and it just grooved? I keep hearing about tendonitis but I guess your body begins to adapt fairly quickly.

It's one or a combination of both of the following:
-Intonation
-Nut slots not cut low enough
Check intonation by playing the open string, the 12th fret harmonic, and fretting the string at the 12th fret. If your guitar is intonated properly the fretted note should be in tune. If it isn't, that's the culprit. As for nut slot height, if too high it is possible that notes in the first few frets are being pulled sharp because of the excess distance the string has to move down to contact the frets.
If both of these are fine and you still think it sounds off, you might have (be cursed with) perfect pitch. If this is the case, do a search for "sweetened guitar tuning".

>retards lean guitarst against couches
>they fall over and break
>"HOW COULD THE COMPANY DO THIS TO ME"
>based company: "you deserved it and we hope it happens again and again until you go broke or quit guitar. fuck you."

The more expensive a guitar is, the more fragile it should be to dissuade poorfags from saving up to buy something they don't deserve. As poor people are naturally dumber and clumsier they will break their nice things and they will be less valuable and run down looking, to match their worthless, often ugly owners.

Know your place, poors. Buy strats.

It doesn't need to be fixed because your suffering is icing on the cake. If breaking it bothers you, you're too poor to have one.

If anything they should be more fragile. Take porsches. Could you save up for one? Sure. Could you afford to take care of one? Doubtful. Is that a good thing? Definitely.

>no i want my $2500 guitar to last forever (i can't afford another one) and retain all its resale value forever (in case i need to sell it to make rent)

Gibsons are like BMWs

Poors save up to buy them, but they can't afford the rest and then bitch to BMW about not making a more poor-friendly care
>THE PARTS COST TOO MUCH
>ITS TOO HARD TO FIX AT HOME
>THE SERVICE INTERVALS ARE TOO SHORT
>MAKE IT MORE LIKE A TOYOTA
>BMW: "the customers we actually care about don't share your complaints. a few $1000 services a year isn't a lot to them. maybe a corolla is more your speed?"
>poorfags: BUT I WANT PEOPLE TO THINK IM RICH ;_;

God, Gibson is such a chad company. I still remember that hipster faggot from Mastodon crying like a bitch when they dropped his endorsement because Mastodon weren't popular anymore.

He said when he asked them to put a custom gauge set of strings on his personal instrument they just laughed and told him if he was Slash they might've considered doing it.

i sold an old church guy a 100w keyboard amp a week ago, plugged it in showed him each channel worked high and low. he starts messaging me the next day saying it isnt working, powers on but no sound. I tell him to try different cords and make sure he isnt running it through an ancient extension cord or whatever as it draws a pretty significant amount of power. he ghost me for a few days and then this morning and starts raging about it that its broken and i knew it etc etc. He tells me now it will plug in and play for like 2-3 minutes but only 50% of the time, but then it cuts out and no sound again.

to me this makes it way different now that it plays sometimes but intermittently, before i was thinking some soldering cracked in transport or something but that doesnt really make sense now if is working half the time.

I asked him to try a different instrument to input and hes just bitching that he bought this for his keyboard and thats what he wants it to play.

to me seems most likely his output is fucked on his keyboard or both cords are crap (maybe one is slightly better than the other). what do you guys think could be going on?

What's the best way to stand these up if they have laquer finish? I've heard laquer is very sensitive to what it touches, even leather (or maybe rubber). I know that floor guitar stands will have a rubber sleeve on the bit that supports the back of the neck.

Most don't but some eat the nitro. Hell, some factory cases were known eat nitro.
>>
>>113756038
I could see maybe if you left it sitting in the stand for years untouched maybe? lacquer has some strange physical properties over the span of decades, like glass in that it's almost like a very slow flowing liquid
>>
>>113750722
Yes.
>>
>>113756064
We're going to have to get really specific here. Nitrocellulose is a shit polymer that's highly flammable and prone to ignite in a hot room, which is why we lost 90% of movies from the early days of film. Any number of things can cause it to dissolve, quickly. I've heard of some sportswear made out of fuck knows what kind of plastic taking nitro off in minutes. A cheap stand with the wrong kind of foam rubber will leave a rash after a few days and make it bubble and crack inside of a month.

Had it for a few weeks now, my opinion has not changed: the Epiphone Riviera absolutely rules. Easily the best setup I've encountered out of the box, great fretwork, love the minihumbuckers. Can't recommend it enough if you're looking for a semi-hollow with something other than standard humbuckers. The only idiosyncracy I've found is that the tailpiece creates a slight interdependence in tuning between the strings on each side, so for a large tuning change you'll need to double back for a fine tuning.

I got it over 10 years ago, still love it. Just checked Reverb, they're still pretty cheap, guess the secret is still well-kept. You basically require an attenuator with this thing, but it's not a huge deal when you're getting a sick point-to-point vintage amp at such a price.

I paid the guy at the guitar shop $15 for a bone nut + he filed it down and everything, and another $20 to put in new pickups which I bought beforehand online

judging by your questions you're at most an intermediate, so don't bother about upgrading or getting the best sound of all, as it is subjective and more dependant on your amp/pedal.
epiphones are nice, i have an sg g310 for about a decade and never had any problems, still play some half step down tuning stuff with it. it keeps mostly in tune, but being an epiphone there is always the risk of getting a bad one, so go to a store and play it, see if keeps in tune, that should be your priority while choosing a guitar at your level, and after that if you like how they look

they may be cheap if you are an amerimutt or an eurocuck, but keep in mind that guitars at their price range share pretty much the same pros and cons, as they are made at chinese factories that builds guitars for other brands also

it's not horrible, but when i play some bossa nova stuff with those alien chords it gets kinda tight with everything so close together

Can someone redpill me on
>Gibson
I have heard nothing but Gibson being dumped on for many years. Yet they still seem to be quite popular. Are they trash or not?

>PRS
Always felt like a meme brand to me

Gibson: insist on changing nothing because their market insists on changing nothing. If they were to fix things, like their retarded headstock angle, the boomers and blooz lawyers who make up the majority of their buyers would cry foul. Variable quality control. Gibson has always been a company with good and bad periods of years throughout their history. Way too much fucking money for what you get.
PRS: They're fine. Just fine. Nothing special. Do everything fine, don't do anything absolutely perfectly.

This post reeks of cope. Gibsons are still much LESS than almost all other made in USA brands. A MiA Jackson, Charvel, ESP, Suhr, Kiesel (anything beyond base model) and more cost more and sometimes double what Gibson charges for their standard line
But why does no one complain that Jackson charges 4k for a fucking bolt-on with a flat too and solid finish? 4k for a bolt-on bit Gibson is the overpriced one with an arched top and a set neck? Yeah right

fairly easy, they also sell amp kits, though unless you're looking for a very expensive/prized or vintage design you're better off buying whatever good amp you find on the used market on any given week
>>113755700
the 6505 is the same as the 5150 versions 1 and 2, v3 is a different amp and so sounds a bit different

I did some electrical work at the Gibson factory in Nashville. 90 percent of the people working there are fat black ladies and they all smoked menthols and listened to rap on their cell phones, I tried striking up conversation with the higher up we dealt with Retha and she was like, "oh hell naw i aint know nothing about no damn guitar"
>>
I used to deliver pizzas and we all hated delivering to Gibson factory because black ladies never tip shit. They would order like 25 personal pan pizzas and instead of having the money together they'd swarm me with 10's and 20's and make me count out exact change for each one of their individual personal pans. i would run out of coins and they'd make me drive back to the store which was 4.5 miles away to get 23 cents for them

One summer my crew were contracted to repave the employee parking lot at Gibson factory and we had to wait around half a day because there were abandoned Chrysler 300's blocking us
