Will I enjoy Japanese music more if I learned the language?
>>
>>108160489
i guess, if you really value lyrics.

i'm not so sure about it. i think there's certain quality related to jap language. its the sound in itself of the words at singing, the natural rhyme-flow of the words (especially in jap women). the only equivalent artist of that phenomenom it's probably the sound of the words of mark e smith
>>
>>108160489
maybe a little but its minimum at best and not worth the effort if thats the only reason you want to learn.
>t. learned to read manga and is still in kanji hell
>>
>>108160489
i dont think so, no
>>
>>108160489
learning spanish made me enjoy spanish music less since all the lyrics are so fucking dumb and cheesy
>>
>>108160489
even if you know it like any any other msuic there are good and bad songs
>>
>>108160489
more likely it'll have the opposite effect
>>
>>108162523
you could say the same about any language including your first one
>>
>>108162393
This.
>>
>>108162558
sure though japanese in particular sounds significantly more poetic when you don't understand what they're saying
>>
>>108160489
I find a lot of Japanese music uncomfortably earnest so no
>>
>>108160489
No.
I did that.
They suck
>>
>>108160489
probably yeah, but is it worth the massive effort? probably not
>>108162393
tbf everything else in most of our music is dumb and cheesy, not just the lyrics.
Calle 13 is cheesy but in a good way, like early Kendrick Lamar. And the actual music and production is top tier. They're great.
Meridian Brothers is excellent. You probably won't understand the lyrics though, I barely do and it's my native language
>>
>>108163472
really? Even YMO, Hirasawa and Shimizu's lyrics?
>>
>>108163686
All the best YMO lyrics are in English and written by Peter Barakan
>>
>>108162393
This.
I mean, just read some of the translations of Japanese songs
>>
>>108164253
I like begin japanology
>>
Depends on what you're listening to. If its jpop and idol stuff, you'll probably like it even less. If its P-MODEL or some artsy kayō, maybe
>>
>>108160489
You will enjoy it less. The big appeal of foreign music is that you don't notice how inane the lyrics are.
>>

Baby Metaru he wants to know what metaru saifa means nihongo de
>>
>>108167029
Some indie jpop and chika idoru as the odd exception
>>
>>108168043
>chika idoru

Why do people try to false signal like this. Just say underground artist. We are having a conversation in English- venue is important anon

i guess so
>>
>>108160489
The opposite. Think of american animation and anime: the first sounds cringe because you actually understand what they're saying.
>>
>>108160489
You'll find out that a lot of upbeat pop songs are actually about depression and suicide, which was kind of weird for me.
>>
>>108160489
Lyrics are not important, so no.

yeah but learning the language means also learning the culture and history behind it, so once you understand that there are complex meanings behind simple words you realize that things that used to sound cringy in the translation actually make sense in their culture.
Though it takes many years to get to that point. Learning a new language it's not easy, I'm still struggling a little bit with English as you can tell, but you gain so much perspective once you understand that a new language is a whole new world basically
>>
the thing is th, modern Japanese music is too western and they even sing half the song in English

there are some elemnts for sure but at the same time is very idiosyncratic unlike pop music from most countries.

anti-"weebs" in a nutshell
>>

Anyone who is capable of undergoing such a thing as learning fucking 2500 hour+ language wouldn’t do so on their half-baked wishes to better enjoy their shitty comfort nip music. The successful people with extreme tenacity who would be up for such a task would’t touch the internet much less, idle: the website.
>>
>>108160489
If you're smart enough to become fluent in Japanese, then you're already too intelligent to "enjoy" shitty Jpop music. It's quite the paradox I know
>>
There are quite a few artists who put a lot of emphasis on their lyrics such as Ichiko Aoba and Sheena Ringo.
I would say it is worth it.

japanese isn't that hard just time consuming
>>
Japanese pronunciation is very simple, so if you keep studying, sooner or later you'll easily be able to understand the lyrics just by listening.
>>

>>
>>108185279
Pronunciation is simple but learning hiragana, katakana, and 3000 basic kanji in order to expand your vocabulary to be able to actually express yourself with more than 2 words is a pain in the ass

Lol the kana are fun to learn. Kana means easy
>>
>>108190890
You can't learn Japanese without mastering basic kanji, and that's not that easy
>>
>>108188706
>>108190890
Kana is easy indeed, kanji can be fun at first as you figure out things like "hey this one indeed looks like a tree" but eventually becomes pure memorization work, thanks China

たとえある人の日本語が流暢としても誰かが信用できると思うの?
皆は全然自信なくて他人の強さが認められないわけ。現代の音楽界と同じかもしれません。

Yeah, It is difficult to memorize Kanji.
But for enjoying the lyrics while listening to music, you only need to know the pronunciation and meaning of the words. Don't get me wrong.
