This song still managed to be less insufferable than "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors

I think the key changes are interesting, maybe because I don't really know how to utilize them well as a writer yet. As normieville as this track is, it's not actually awful. It at least manages to be kind of interesting, instead of completely by the numbers, like one might expect from recycled radio kitsch.

I might look down on someone who puts this in their tops list though. Definitely far from unique.

A key change is exactly what it sounds like. The chord progression remains the same, but now it's in a new key.

I know what a key change is. I don't know how to utilize them properly. Like what keys would you pick and why? I know that there's lots of stuff that just uses them as a tension builder and it's pretty pedestrian, but they definitely have way more uses when it comes to unique and interesting composition.

My interest in them is felt in OP post, just by association.

Just learn basic pop songwriting structures and add a key change to one of the later choruses to spice things up
