>>40575435Okay, this one's going to get a speech out of me.They hinted at her being into Big Mac earlier in the show, then a later episode had him get together with Sugar Belle, then some writer or storyboarder realized that created a problem and decided to add a scene showing the results. This is one of the only times I can think of where someone on show staff noticed they'd written themselves into a corner, decided to acknowledge it, and let the negative consequences of something play out as they naturally would. This is the sort of continuity we constantly shit on the writers for not including, and yet when they do, it's treated as an attack on the fans or the character. I'm not saying the show should be grim or depressing as a whole, far from it, and I know the series did make some actual fuckups later on in regards to the friendship theme, but I always thought part of the reason MLP was good was because it was capable of adding some believable issues and flaws to its world while overall keeping the feeling of an idealistic fantasy setting. That's part of what made the setting more appealing than something like G3.5 to begin with, it managed to be happy while having more going on than just happiness and tea parties.Nowadays I see anons complaining that the show is deliberately attacking them if it includes things like unrequited love or aging, and I start to wonder, how is it supposed to totally skip any emotionally heavy conflicts without becoming the shallow toy commercial it was accused of being in seasons 2-4? I've seen literal slice of life comedy anime take on heavier stuff than this. And worse, when people take an issue with it, they always seem to attribute malice to why it's there. "They chose to do this" rage bait, often going into full-on conspiracy posting, over the presence of conflicts that are extremely common in basic storytelling. Shit like this puts me off of show discussion on /mlp/ in general because it feels like it invariably gets hijacked by schizoposters who think that anything the show does which makes them feel bad is proof that the entire production team is evil.Apologies for the derail, we can get back to Marbleposting, this sort of perpetual victim mentality just gets under my skin.
