The Griffonian Empire is a much, much better choice for brand new players. You get to start by fighting small, but easily winnable wars since you are stronger than all of your neighbors, then you get to work your way up to bigger and bigger challenges as the game progresses.

Also make a lot of planes. A lot of planes. And set them on air support, or air superiority if you can take losses and are able to overpower the enemy in the air. Navy doesn't matter 90% of the time in either EaW or vanilla unless you fight the UK or Hippogriffs. You should be able to crush anybody else with random ships you most likely have
I'm still doing my A-Z challenge that I started last thread. This time, it was Angriver.Angriver has one of the more interesting starts in Herzland. It starts far away from the Empire, but has the second largest starting army in the region mixed with a defensible position making them have actually a pretty decent chance, unlike Griffenmarschen. I went for a non-aligned route because I covered all the ideologies in my last 3 playthroughs.What I liked:>Interesting lore for the region, being a backwater forest region led by a vicious baron.>Nice challenge at the start followed by some simple, but relatively fun blobbing gameplay similar to the normal Empire.>Nice story bits, although the non-aligned route is kind of lacking after the Empire unification, but that is supplemented by big conquests to keep you busy.>A cool small epilogue story and tree, which has you turning harmonist because your leader tries to pull a Palpatine followed by an election, which has 1 harmony and 3 non-aligned options, which is why I have this leader.>Many coreable lands leading to an extra incentive to conquer next the focus tree (most of my lands in pic are cores).What I didn't like:>It can feel a bit mindless once you manage to consolidate Herzland and if Aquileia and the Republic aren't strong enough. Its just a series of easy conquests, which is a fun reward for uniting Herzland, but there, but it can be a little boring in longer sessions.>The military trees feel a bit boring.Overall, Angriver is one of the more interesting Herzland nations, but overall feels very similar to the rest gameplay-wise, which is kill Empire-become Empire-kill everyone. Next up in my challenge is Arantigua.This is my first failed run of the challenge, but I think I saw everything I needed to know for this nation as it has a rather small tree. I went supremecist with this one.What I liked:>While you start off small and weak, you do get some nice early army buffs and plenty of ponypower from your focuses.>Similarly small nations to take on early, meaning that there is room for conquest before fighting a major.>The suprememcist leader gets nice buffs.>Cool lore.What I didn't like:>It is very lacking story-wise besides the backstory. Besides the coup, there is nothing.>Only 2 paths and one of them seems to pretty much bind you to Wingbardy.>The entire focus tree feels boring and kind of generic. The only truly good things I can say about it is the lack of 70 day focuses and maybe some of the ponypower buffs.>Practically no incentive to do anything but take over a few minors then randomly go conquering about. You can't even core anything unless you take Griffenheim.>Feels very outdated overall.This is not one of EAW's best nations for sure and is in a desperate need of a remake. In my playthrough, I managed to conquer Erie, Eryie, Taryn, Rumare, Griffonstone and Blackrock. After that, I went to war with Wingbardy. I released Tarin and Griffonstone as puppets and did not call them in. This let me encircle half of the entire Wingbardy/Talouse army rather easily due to letting them pass through my lands, but then Aquileia randomly attacked Tarrin without any sort of warning, dragging me into it and ruining it. I managed to hold and kill a bunch of Wingbardians, but then the Empire did the same with Griffonstone and I just gave up at that point. Normally, I'd try again, but I felt that it wasn't really worth it as I saw pretty much everything the nation had to offer anyway. If I were to try it again, I would not bother taking Tarrin and maybe release Griffonstone as an independent nation, which would give me a pretty easy war with Wingbardy as I was handily beating them before the other two majors ganged up on me.Overall, if you want to play this nation, just do yourself a favor and use the Ghosts of Yor submod. Its much better. As it is now, it needs reworks.Next up, unfortunately, is Barony of Rumare...

The want for attention is just in service of making herself feel greater than Celestia.For Daybreaker it's Celestia deciding that because of her immense knowledge and experience that she should be the absolute authority of everything. More specifically, that any dissent is foolish at best and that every single person should be made to fall in line under her. That's not to say she would never change her mind or that she wouldn't adjust her plans based on new information, but rather that she would be the final, unquestionable decision maker. Additionally, Celestia's loneliness is what drives Daybreaker to want to be praised and worshipped. It's an unhealthy way for her to cope with her fear of being abandoned by drowning it out with that adoration from her subjects. This is also why Daybreaker becoming ultra protective, obsessive, and controlling towards Luna is another perfectly believable way for her to act towards Luna. Both of them can also get the republic back as a vassal if Rosewing wins and hillponies if Gering wins. So again, their actual strengh depends on loyalties. Consistently I'd say Aquilea od Beakolini's Karinthia. Both hit hard late game, but I'd say Aquilea is stronger.
