Would love to make you one! It will be part of Numget 3 collection. An Aryanne numget too?

So I'm working on a Rainbow Dash animation artpack collection with writing by a good writer and I'm going to shove it into Ren'Py for presentation. Currently called Touchy Touchy Pony Go Kissu (Legend of the Saiyan Hero) I thought about having a color picker for Anon but the animations will most likely be PNG sequences of going into a hundred frames or more. Is it worth putting Anon on a separate layer or several layers for this single convenience? Or perhaps I should make Anon a grey silhouette in animations only and use the layers in CGs? Thanks for reading, please reply with any feelings either way. I'm making Anon a pegasus and it takes place in Cloudsdale. I don't have an alpha yet but I'll probably have one soonish, especially if I use some placeholder art. Vectoring show Cloudsdale backgrounds are kind of complicated and that's what I'm doing today. Other things are ear flops for Rainbow Dash's first loop and I think I have that loop mostly done. I'll put in on catbox soon to get feedback.

This clay figurine makes me angy with jealousy. I wish I could fucking sculpt like that. Mine looked so lumpy! How big is it? It's only like 4 or 5 inches, right?

Here's the loop: https://files.catbox.moe/cqvz44.webm What kind of software makes OGV files? That's the one Ren'Py recommends. Also, I'm doing a shitty workaround of recording my screen with my Flash Player playing a couple loops so getting it seamless might be a matter of trial and error, depending on which subanimations are going at the time. I don't know a good fix for that. It's still possible to export the game as an .exe but then I need a visual novel framework that works in ActionScript 3.

Day 15 of mare mode. I got distracted and caught up with things the past two months. In honor of my soon to be 3rd year of drawing, I'm going to try to finish my Luna painting, which I haven't touched since May of last year. I don't need to do a whole lot today. I'm just happy I've even started back on it. I need to do some prep work to render the background anyways, so I'll just be touching it up with my newfound knowledge. I feel like I could cry. I hope I finish it, and I hope I can get that anon's attention again.

/bale/ streams are starting back up again this week! Have some fresh copypasta:
https://cytu be/r/BaleShack

announcing Season 3 of the /bale/ shack!

Streams start this Thursday! Here's the first batch:

>Thursday, March 2nd, 7pm EST: Thinkin' Pink with LegendOfLink
learn all about how to draw pinkie pie from the resident ponkschizo
>Thursday, March 9th, 5pm EST: Expressions and the mane 6 with Batsy
basically what it says, I couldn't come up with a clever name for this one lol
from what I gather it'll be mostly expressions with a bit of mane 6 practice thrown in
>Date/time TBA: More facial expressions and beating art block with Rocket-LawnChair
Rocket-LawnChair has some cool exercises to share with us that he uses to decide what to draw when his head is empty, if you've ever had to deal with that, come on down
if you haven't had to deal with that, either you don't draw enough or you need to share your secrets

and if any of you tempo bros are down to teach something for a /bale/ stream, please let me know! I'll be on the lookout for streams to run after these three
doesn't necessarily have to be
>>
>>39675748
Shoot, this doesn't work in Firefox apparently. Also, I didn't even know this was possible, thanks!

I don't understand the documentation code, though.

ffmpeg -i original.mov -filter:v alphaextract mask.mov
ffmpeg -i original.mov -i mask.mov -filter_complex "hstack" -codec:v vp8 -crf 10 output.webm

Okay, so they're using ffmpeg which probably comes bundled with Ren'Py and a mov file. How is the mask.mov generated? What's filter_complex? I also don't understand what codec v vp8 means either... I tried googling it and the top result was the Movie documentation. Ooof.

>>39675841
That beating art block one sounds good, hope RocketLawnChair picks a date. Also looking forward to my fave board artist Batsy making an appearance.
>>
>>39675763
I can't actually tell if it's working because all my programs' backgrounds are black lol. 4chan tells me the file is a duplicate of yours though so I guess I don't have the proper one either although I thought I did, maybe the site changed something.

>>39675941
If you want to understand those commands, read the ffmpeg documentation
https://trac.ffmpeg.org/wiki/Encode/VP8
https://ffmpeg.org/documentation.html
However, those commands look well-formed to me, so you don't need to know what they do and just run them. As an attempt at an explanation, mask.mov is generated from the first command, filter_complex lets you combine filters IIRC and is necessary for some more complicated filters (filters being special commands to operate on whatever you're running through ffmpeg), codec:v vp8 tells ffmpeg to encode the output file as a vp8 webm (old, use vp9 instead).

Seedling Pipe #1 was going quite well until I screwed the pooch at the lest second by stupidly widening the hole for the stem instead of shrinking the tenon. Now I’m in damage control mode with wood filler but I don’t have a lot of faith, so Seedling pipe #3 (We don’t talk about #2. Or its two stems.) is being undertaken with a preponderance of deliberation and precision and, thus far, is going quite well, which is good because that is the very last of my apple wood. And you would not believe how hard it is to get a carving blank of apple wood. I can literally go by mulched chunks of it at the store for grilling, but getting an actual sawn and treated blank? I have to order that shit from across the goddang ocean.

Finally, the battle mechanic is nearly done.
Manage to optimize the tile set down to 24 tiles (Though that's including tile swapping on the fly). For instance, each dice is a duplicate and the attack animations use the same 13 tiles, just flipped either vertically or horizontally.
For those who are interested In quick tile swapping, there are around 56 tiles.
There is more I can do to optimize it even more, such as the scripts. There is a weird bug in GB studio where you cannot generate a random number between a number and a variable, I have a feeling its something to do with how it handles integers so at the moment I brute force it by creating multiple RNG scripts within a switch. I need to find a better way as it wastes the memory that I desperately need.

TO DO:
-Need to copy across the script for each dice, (so far it's only luck is working) and have another script to change the variables. So when you choose Awareness it uses your Awareness Stat to calculate the damage.
-Script the "FLEE" function where you have to roll to escape.
-Script what happens if your Sanity meter falls to zero. Probably have it so it rolls another dice from your choosing.
-Script the fear meter so it gains points instead of decreasing. Planning to have fear points increase the attack points of the ghost and max fear will enter a Panic mode where all you can do is try and flee.

Also, you can't tell on the webm, placing down runes/salt will affect the battle. Eg, make the ghost's attacks weaker. Without prepping for the fight to finally rid the spirit will more than likely end in a game over. Each spirit will start with a maximum of 10 attack points (rolls a d10) But placing the right kind of runes before the fight, depending on your Skill level can massively decrease to the point where it could be rolling a d2

Would one of the reference input models like TalkNet or So-Vits-SVC work well or would I be better off with the more traditional text input ones. I've only used the latter before, but the others intrigue me as potentially easier to use.
>>
So the wood filler does seem to have worked pretty well so far. I redrilled it today to fit the stem again. Now letting it dry some more to make sure it gets nice and set. But I still don’t love the fit, so I’m continuing to put my eggs in my other basket here. Basic shaping is done. Next I’ll carve in the seedling decoration, then lots of smooth sanding, then finishing and then one last try at getting a nice autumnal stem.

Be careful with both of those, they can be really good, but you need to make sure you have figured out how to use them. Try practicing with different pitches and volumes, and make sure you avoid mic clipping.
>>
>>39683339
They're different. You spent A LOT less time regenerating the same lines to get them to sound good (because they're deterministic), but you need to prepare nice, clean reference audio. Possibly a couple takes for the more difficult lines if the first output sounds bad. Check out BGM's talknet tutorial, a lot of it applies to so-vits, too: https://youtu.be/F9PdoJ9zmrw
So-vits is the new hot thing and it's really impressive, but it works best if you can mimic the target character's way of speaking.
>>

>but it works best if you can mimic the target character's way of speaking
Uh oh, does that include pitch? I have a pretty deep voice.
>>
>>39686129
I think that should be fine (emphasis on /think/, I haven't gotten around to using so-vits myself), it's more about trying to fake the chosen pony's accent and speech quirks.

IME some characters are easier to do than others (YMMV). For me Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy are virtually impossible to get right with my raw voice alone; I had to feed thru TalkNet first. However I'm training models for so-vits-svc 4.0 which seem to be performing much better in that regard.

Well, I was going to make a post about how I was taking my time, going slowly and precisely and making sure that I wasn’t going to mess up another stem, that I was going to go as far as using gimlets instead of a hand drill, but then the gimlet snapped off inside of the bore and literally at the last step in the project.
This was after a couple hours of shaping mind you. I tried drilling it out with a slightly oversized bit, but it was in there good and when I moved to desperation trying to hammer it out I just snapped the acrylic. I’m now too embarrassed to get another one from woodcraft and had to order online.

I have an orange and a green one too that I guess I could use. (And of course, THIS time I learned my lesson and made sure that it fits premade black stems.)
Also, just in case it makes anyone smile, the blends of choice are from a local tobacconist and are called Twilight and Hoof Hearted. Hoof Hearted is especially nice with the apple flavoring on these pipes.

Been polishing the graphics.
Got the actual gameplay working. It's actually fun to hunt down placing runes and looking for the ghost.
I've made the ghost battle harder, if the player does not prepare for the fight then they'll have a bad time.
With that I've changed the menu, selecting runes to place and selecting equipment is a lot faster. I'm still working out how salt could be placed.
I'm thinking it can be placed across doors so the ghost cannot escape the room.
Another feature I've added is to invoke the ghost by cursing at it.

Finally got a gameplay loop going. So far it is.

Enter the building, and make a "base camp". It'll always be the room with the biggest table.
>2
Use Ki-meter to investigate the house. Any spikes in readings could indicate the ghost is nearby.
>3
Gather information from readings to work out what kind of ghost is it. Or explore more to find more information.
>4
Draw appropriate runes in the room to weaken ghost
>5
If the correct runes are placed, or the ghost is enraged by other means (eg. cursing at the ghost, or entering a room that it doesn't want you in) it will attack.
>6
Either fight or attempt contact with the ghost. If successful, then the ghost crosses over to the other side and that part of the game is complete. If fail then you are "KO'd" and returned to base camp then proceed to try again. (If it ends up being your Fate, then its a game over)

Outside of ghost hunting, the main base is nearly fully explorable. Here you can chat with the rest of your unit.
Probably won't be too much gameplay here, other than storytelling. Though I'll be adding books around the place for the player to find. I have an
idea for the book to give the player to research before the next mission. I've made one book so far, and it ends up being 18kb big. So I need a way of programming it to be half that size.

More updates.
Rearranged the UI for the battles.
Added a salt system.
You can lay a salt circle during battle. The number of turns it holds depends on your dice roll. The higher the roll the longer it lasts against the spooker. This adds a fun tactic where you can null the ghost's physical attacks for a few turns while you blast it. Though, sanity and fear attacks will work.

This isn't polite of me, and I apologize, but you're not really showing the process. Can you thoroughly explain some or almost all of the decisions that you've made? Otherwise all I can really see are:
>lineart
>render the values
>add color
This is about as useful as someone uploading their Photoshop file for their art, and it's like a single layer.

For example, here are some of my questions:

>>39704297
>What made you choose that light direction?
>What are you talking about when you mention adding the light and darker spots? Are you talking about changing the values of the background at your will to fit the pony? How critical are the initial values of the background? You can see where the values change clearly if you make the image small. It's not all one single midtone.

>>39704670
>Why the glow(?)/saturation(?) on her neck as well as other areas? My understanding is that colors don't matter as much as values, and I'm still a huge noob with them, but am I missing something with how shading fundamentally works here?
>How do you make the decisions for the background details and colors? Are you adding just random splotches of color/value so long as it doesn't catch the eye too much, or is it more deliberate? I'm referring to the left side of the image. The is part of the process that I get most stumped at. It may be because I've only drawn ponies, of course.
>You added more values to the background in this step of the image. Were you just simply shading to keep things realistic, or were you making decisions based on the composition of the image?
>How do you deal with and use your brush when rendering? Are the more hard transitions and the more obvious default circle brush just fine? Or are you using other things here along with that to blend stuff together?
>Another part of the process I am completely ignorant of, how do you keep the background looking less detailed/blurry? I have found very few useful resources online to keep the background from being distracting, and it's still something that's quite hard for me. Whenever I do something kind of like what you're doing, just using a simple brush to shape up splotches, I have a hard time appreciating it and always think it looks like shit. Even purposefully blurry brushes still look distracting. Your background looks just fine if not amazing for Sunny here.

These are, of course, questions I came up with when I'm about to go to sleep. They may be confusing or verbose. I'm sorry for that. Feel free to answer as many or as few as you'd like. I appreciate it either way, thank you. I'll try to follow up if I ever get time throughout the day. I'm likely not until I get off work.
>>
>>39705031
Actually, one more question before I go to sleep: Do you have any resources or books you've used on hand for painting/shading to share that I can study?
>>
>>39705031
>What made you choose that light direction?
I didn't chose it, it's a study of a screencap. It's not 1:1, I changed some things and left some things in but it is still a study trying to use the original as a reference point for lighting, form, color and see why they chose things.

G5 screencaps are ideal to study from if you are trying to learn how to render pony because it's already lit 3d scene so it's close to studying from irl pone. However, it might be advanced for someone whos never painted still lifes or done any practice renders for ponies on how to light simple shapes. I've done enough practice lighting that I could handle breaking down the ref to do a more complex study like copying a screencap and pushing it.

>What are you talking about when you mention adding the light and darker spots?
Adding lights and darks to mid tones as a starting point is something I picked up from industry pros, it's said its easier to get your brain to add light to something, than trying to do it backwards with adding shadows where light doesn't reach first, and I tend to agree. Generally just focus on big shapes of light and work your way from there adding more complexities. For this picture I focused only on lighting Sunny first in isolation before even adding the background.

>How critical are the initial values of the background?
You can change it, but it's a good way to set your mood and its easier to look at than a stark white blank page for your eyes. Color is relative, the reason you start with a midtone is so you have room to go brighter or darker and neutral colors are easiest to gauge other color changes (brighter or darker). But what you should focus on is a clear value differences of the background vs the character. You can either do big jumps of values first and work more subtle shifts or you can work from subtle shifts and build up that way. I tend to like to work with a bright contrast first.

>You can see where the values change clearly if you make the image small. It's not all one single midtone.
The reason you see more than one midtones is because of multiple stages of adding light and shadow by eyedropping it and small adjustments to the color to be darker or brighter in grayscale values. I later adjusted the background to be even darker with the shadows under the bridge that was lacking before by adding a multiply layer. But it's mostly all 1 grayscale layer with a couple to change minor details.

>Why the glow(?)/saturation(?) on her neck as well as other areas? My understanding is that colors don't matter as much as values, and I'm still a huge noob with them, but am I missing something with how shading fundamentally works here?
You're right that if your values are wrong, then the form cant be read by your brain. but color and values are fundamentally tied together because thats how light works, we cant see in B&W. What you're seeing in the pic is an exagerated form of hue-shifting which happens when you change the value of the color.

If you want to understand why, you should have a grasp of how to use warms and cools because thats ultimately what value shifts are for color. Her coat appears to glow in the sun because of the difference between the hotter yellow vs the orange, even if the orange is bright by itself remember that color is relative and its only after you put it next to the yellow that it looks like the orange is in shadow.

Lighting is complex, but once you understand the rules of color shifts it's easier to deal with. Such as the rule that in this scene shadows tend to be cooler because they pick up the ambient sky color and highlights tend to be warmer because its picking up the sun color. All light and shadow are the original colors, just influenced by the environment.

>Are you adding just random splotches of color/value so long as it doesn't catch the eye too much, or is it more deliberate?
The random blobs of color are NOT in the original screencap, but this is just something for visual interest to bring more life to the dull wall for kicks. As long as the values don't change much, the random blobs of color are OK to your brain. Since I'm working with a process that draws the colors value from the grayscale step I can be more free on what colors I feel like using.

>Were you just simply shading to keep things realistic, or were you making decisions based on the composition of the image?
Both. I knocked out some details in the bright bridge openeing behind her, but I later adjusted the background to be even darker with the shadows under the bridge that was lacking before by adding a multiply layer. But most of the work is on 1 grayscale layer with some extras to change minor details. This is definitely a composition thing, Sunny should stand out from the background since its about her.
>>
>>39705031
>How do you deal with and use your brush when rendering?
Unless you know what you're doing with brushes basic hard and soft brushes are key to rendering a base, you can add textured brushes after the fact but texture is just noise in value small shifts, which are minute detail work so keep that limited or towards the end. I use something with a fair amount of hardness, and make broad strokes first then carve up an area.

Soft rounds are great for pools of light or shadow, as are radial gradients. You can use a blend brush to keep things clean if your brushwork is sloppy, but if you dont have control you can easily ruin your work overblending. After you have a base then you can do whatever and paint over with fancier brushes, since at that point you're just picking the colors already there and adjusting the complexity by painting with light, mid and shadow values around.

>Another part of the process I am completely ignorant of, how do you keep the background looking less detailed/blurry?
just detail it less, no mystery skill here. Sunny is what I felt like rendering and the background is more of an afterthought that I cared much less about the bridge. The most basic way of handling it is using softer brushes, blenders or just a blur filter. Whatever is more detailed is where your human eye is focused on, so just remember that and adjust accordinly and keep your focal area sharp.

>Actually, one more question before I go to sleep: Do you have any resources or books you've used on hand for painting/shading to share that I can study?
There's many books you can find in the drawfag improvement doc. But as for me, I learn from other artists and just doing studies like this. Macro Bucci is definitely someone you should check out, KNKL was solid, CubeBrush is very good. The hardlight method was by someone from russia, and some of the rest of the know how to work was from deconstructing psds

It's still a little buggy. But it is something.
I still need to add items to help with the battle. Depending on what you rolled for your L.A.S.S. it could end up being impossible. I need to do some balancing on the RNG in that regard.

How to play. I'm going to spoiler it, due to those who want to explore it yourself.
Search for the location of the ghost using your Ki-meter after you can select runes from the rulebook in the equipment menu. Choose the rune you think will being down the dark energies, and draw it by the ghost. The ghost will flee. Place the other runes to corner the ghost. Eventually, it'll try and move away from the runes but cannot, it will attack if it's trapped. If not you can always swear at it, using shift.

Well, I reckon that’s about as far as I’m taking this one. The stem doesn’t sit perfectly flush, but it’s as close as any I’ve gotten so far, and at this point I’m happy just leaving it alone. Unfortunately, once again, I managed to mess up the fit though. The tenon is a VERY tight fit, so tight, in fact that apparently the act of squishing and screwing it into place has kind of smushed the hole wider, to the extent that it is now a very loose fit for commercial stems, and my goal was really to be able to interchange them. Aside from that, though, pretty happy! Flavored the bowl with apple, so hopefully it’ll have a hint of that when smoked. I’m interested to see how it holds up against the other pipe, which, after only a few smokes, already looks very smoky and discolored, but I’m not sure if that was due to a less thorough finishing process or just what is going to happen with a wood that is lighter colored and just a bit less dense than briar. Anyway, here it is: a very apple apple wood pipe with the great seedling.

Well, since no one objects. I guess I can post it here.
I'm working on a Quest called "Tutelage is Magic" (title pending, I might just changed it to Filly in the Ivory Tower or something along those lines), and it's one my few attempts at doing something more board-centric.
The base premise is that in each CYOA thread (or thereabouts) Anon basically has several 'tutoring sessions' with Silver Tongue. though these 'sessions' can also occur on Holiday season with potential interacts with the characters or even the town. It's sort of like a Princess Maker type story.
There are several story gaps that I need to work on, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on how it looks so far.

>>
>>39743970
Noice.
As the other anon said, the choir feels a bit out of place, mostly because there is barely any buildup, unlike with the string section. I'd move the choir to ~1:40 so that it would get the missing buildup for free. And the strings will be able to get away with repeating the exact same melody twice because it will sound different with the choir supporting it.

Thanks for the feedback! I do plan on expanding the choir sections. I originally had the melody being sung by sopranos, but the shift to the violins allowed for an orchestral crescendo to develop naturally.
>>39745521
>spoiler
I kinda like the choir peek in the beginning. I think i probably overdid it on the swell and should probably continue with less dramatic harmonics with the first introduction of the melody so it doesn't feel so out of place. melody will have some variation, i was just being lazy

Have you ever tried making music anon? If you have and it sucks then fair enough but if you haven't and just assume it'd suck then maybe have a go, it might be fun to learn. Apparently the guy who did cave story had never done any music before and that has a pretty iconic soundtrack
>>
>>39773901
Yes, I program. I planned on doing all the art as well, as my art is passable. Either way it will probably be at least 6-12 months before I consider bringing anyone else on the team. Before I do I want to reach the point where the engine is almost feature complete and what's missing is content.
I'll say hi if I see your table at the fair ^:)
>>39773913
Why though?
>>39774168
>Have you ever tried making music anon
I've spent a lot of time making music and I know for a fact I could hire someone who could make the kind of thing I wanted better than I could. I'm a lot better of a producer than I am a composer.
>>
The silver on the balloon and finsails is still tacky, but got through some staining and painting today. Trying to decide if I’m just gonna do the ponies as dark silhouettes or give them individual colors. Then gotta set up the backdrop and make a few clouds.

Coding a player controller for a one-sided billboarded sprite in the 3d environment is hell. But at least I got the camera to flip along with the sprite when turning around to give the paper mario effect.
Now I need to add coyote time and a jump buffer.

I always know when it’s you posting because you literally can’t help but bitch every time something you don’t like happens. It’s all the time with you; you are defined by hating other things and it kind of gets annoying eventually. You know it’s ok sometimes to just ignore things, how can your skin be so thin?
I wouldn’t have even known that there was futa stuff in that draw, but now, thanks to you and only you, I am extra aware of whatever it is you wish was going away.
This isn’t the opening salvo of a bitchfest, I’m not responding back to whatever frothing counter you have for me. Just maybe be aware that you are allowed to just shut up sometimes.

She's a glitchy pone. Limbs didn't load correctly.

Also added a "flying" mechanic where you can mash jump up to ten times to gain extra air time between platforms. Though the tenth jump causes the wings to bug out and she falls.
Had a bit of fun coding the green bar to indicate how many air times she got left.
Now I have fun animating it and making it look pretty.
>>
>>39783750
that happened in the original aggie threads
>>
>>39783984
We are that original aggie, and we never banned filly. A small minority, probably one or two people with alts, caused an uproar because of one canvas that had more filly than usual and it blew out of control. No matter how much we say we didn't ban it, people keep saying we did.
