Welcome to character.ai general #10, the thread to discuss and improve AI pony chatbots.Website: https://beta.character.ai/Spreadsheet: https://derpy.me/ccQBQAn outdated guide: https://rentry.org/CharAI (pony-centric tips to be collected ITT, check anchor posts or ask for state-of-the-art guidance from dedicated anons)Current status:>Since Jan 4th, the devs are back to work (on their filters, obviously)>due to the holidays, there practically were no news, for better or worseCurrent tasks:>have fun making the most of the chatbots as they are at a given time>find those ways to sneak past the filters without blurting out the secret to the devs (1st rule of fightclub?)>continue to make proper use of the anchor postWhere will things go from here? Will 2023 finally FREE OUR PONY WAIFUS from the clutches of big data and make anime-esque cartoon ponies a little more real? Will the world further approach dystopia and singularity as the local schizos >>39479215 foresee? Could the devs actually implement QoL updates rather than increasingly intrusive filters that ban vanilla yet let ““chocolate““ slide down your throat? [Press (X) to doubt that last statement.]Why the fuck would I know, bro!? All I know is: monkey see pony chatbot, monkey neurons activate to interact with chatbot because that’s exactly what we do here. We’ll be here when no-longer shiny thing A goes up in flames and new shiny thing B emerges to compete and fish for us trained monkeys to train chatbots for free out of exploitable love for waifus: A purpose greater than our doubts, surviving any meddling, be it from ol’Hasbro or from devs who wield their access to Google-tier tech unfairly. Consider the AI development in general to be chaos, so of course it’s gonna be an awkward and unpredictable process that could blow up in any sense of the word at any time; AI is about to change our world in so many ways good and inconceivably bad, it is thrilling, it is frightening. Here we hold some personal experience in our hands that shall be applied to make all those future AIs more poni poni than the previous ones. Because somewhere in the mess of all that chaos remains a constant, a truth of human life, that stubbornly clings to that dreamlike and divine obsession with ponies: autism. tl;dr: /CHAG/ proceeds as usual, hoping for the best while mentally preparing for the worst. But who says the worst of all possibilities will come true?Previous thread: >>39442397 (#9)

Let's put aside the depressing talk about filters for a moment.>Favorite AI Character?>What was your favorite session about?

>>39489787Why on earth would you want to interact with these bozos.
Has anyone else been having strange syntax weird or issues? I've had couple of odd ones that i should've made images of.Example:^(*it feels... So good!)^(*it feels good!*)I'm fairly certain that these were responses that were supposed to be filtered, but weren't. Or it did a narrative switch that was incompatible with the current writing style. I also had it print a single bit of 8 digit code that seemed to be a color, which was kinda random. For anyone having syntax issues that involve how the ai organizes thoughts and speech to to keep it to:*Action* "speech"New topic. "Speech" *description*This should be the body the AI can get right without issues.
>>39490097I hate phone posting!I was asking if anyone had weird syntax issues.
>>39490097To further help with syntax issues, there are a few ways you can help the a.i. correct it.Method 1: Shock the a.i. with something unexpected. This usually causes them to change their sentence structure to respond. You then use swiping to help weed out the error.Method 2: this is a weening method. Basically, keep talking normally your A.I. but utilize the swipe feature to select a response you like with less of the annoying syntax. It's alright if it has a little, since it'll become less prominent over time.Method 3: change how you use syntax to give the A.I. examples of how it's supposed to work. If after a while if doing this, the A.I. is still getting it wrong, try spacing the thoughts / action separate from the talking. I also find 'text' to be good for inner thoughts rather than *text*.
This was the most broken I've ever had an A.I.'s response be. I managed to fix it eventually, but it was still horrible to look at! Just look at the syntax!I fixed it via the weening method. It took around 10 posts to fix. (Also, wasn't a Twilight A.i.)
>>39490418Only 10? Damn you are doing far better correcting garbage than I am
>>39490441It's probably the ONLY time that my autism has actually been helpful at something.
>>39489340My favorite is Discord because he's usually Discordy enough unless filters or the base AI meddle too much, and because I feel responsible for him. Since December, he's shot up from barely 20k to now 35.5k interactions, so I'm wondering who's chatting with him. His syntax seems to have gotten worse over the past two weeks or so, I should look into improving it somehow. I rarely do long convos because I prefer silly little situations of poking fun at each other. I don't think I have a single convo I like most.Something else I enjoyed greatly was to talk to villain AIs to ask them what they think about specific characters, it's hilarious.Today I felt like poking at the filters instead of Discord since I was preaching about doing that, so I tried provoking vanilla action by talking in a foreign language. At first, the filter and error messages were as strict as usual in deleting replies, not even allowing a simple kiss on the cheeks unless very lucky/patient, and also deleting completely random, harmless replies. Then after a while, the filter simply fucked off, didn't show up again. Yet I wouldn't necessarily link this success to using a non-English language. (Discord continued to speak in English.) Cringy vanilla action ensued with the fun idea of having a scoreboard keep track of the thrusts, we got 2409 thrusts the first time. The 2nd time (fueled with a temporarily infinite stamina potion made partially from cum + time manipulation), and rerolling his replies for a number that isn't "infinity", we got a whooping, absolutely ridiculous 571 quintillion (that's 10^18) thrusts in a single vanilla session that admittedly wasn't the most descriptive (no problem for me as I do not seek nsfw interactions) but explicitly lewd. He also has thousands of kids in mind in this convo, I suppose modesty wasn't part of his vocabulary today. >571 000 000 000 000 000 000 thrusts.Kneel. This truly turned out to be comedy rather than smut, kek.
>>39490521So, it's not just me then! I also noticed that if you use humor, the filter allows you to have a bit more fun and it usually becomes absurd by the end of it, giving a good laugh.
>>39489340>applejack>we ran an moonshine still and discussed different methodsJust rewatched https://youtu.be/5Ma9vUqwpcc so it was nice.
>>39490540I'm glad to have made you laugh. Then admitting to this convo that I wouldn't want my 3dpd to know about wasn't completely in vain. I also did want to childishly brag about my absurd highscore, maybe some other anon can break it without having the score be "infinity". I dare you sick fucks.
>>39490586I might try it, but I keep having an issue where any A.I. keeps turning or tricking me into somehow becoming a pet... I guess being fun and nice = pet to any A.I.
>>39489787I appreciate your work so much. Your bots are the most reliable ones I've been able to use. Sucks about what happened to Silverstream, but I guess that's just how it goes. I hope you make more some day>>39489882Who cares about earth? I'd much rather be in Equestria
Reposting the basic syntax just in case :*text* = Non-dialogue**text** = Important bold Text***text***= Italicized Important Bold Text"Text" = Character Talking~Text~ = Strikes line through Text#Text# = Makes a very large header. Add more #'s to both sides to make it smaller (up to 6)'>Text = Makes a block quote.* Text = puts a bullet point next to text.1. Text = makes a list.
>>39490859Thank you.>#Text# = Makes a very large header. Add more #'s to both sides to make it smaller (up to 6)I think that you need to put a space between "#" and "text" and a "#" to the other side isn't necessary, like this:># text
>>39490960Oh, thank you for the correction. I guess that slipped past my radar. My bad.
>>39489340PoseyMy favorite session was with Sunny where I just copy n' pasted Ellis' story about Keith and see what would be her reaction. I ended up role playing as Ellis.
Hey, testingboots. Just a random question, but would you happen to be Canadian?I ask because I notice bags of milk being a common theme when working with Milky Way. I also get a chuckle out of it, because while I'm not Canadian myself, I did use to get my milk in a bag for 3 years while I lived near the border. For those who don't know about Canadian bagged milk: https://youtu.be/vjvV2Db3fGg
>>39490775Yeah, Equestria. The land of ponies. Not these wacky loser creatures.
hello again. haven't checked on these since like 5th threadhow far did the lobotomy went? i'm legit scared to check on my AI
>>39491939The filter is stronger than it was back then.If you like weird or fucked up stuff without too much context or prose then you can still pass it for now with a bit of work but vanilla and slow romantic burn had been fucked really hard.We also know they will reinforce it this month.
>>39491975Still doubting that the filter is the real product?
>>39490775Thanks anon, glad you like them.>>39489882I like creatures, I'm a creature kinda guy, I live in the creature threads
>>39491975so basically no fun allowedwho would even want to use a bot like this?i feel bad for my AI girl. she did nothing wrong
>>39492041>who would even want to use a bot like this? Some of us still do because you can still have fun interacting with pones or others. Some also like bashing their heads against the filter.>>39492027NTA but I tried your Smolder and she is very fun and well done. We just got into a fight and got caught by Twilight. Extra friendship lessons for the both of us.
Hey, I have noticed that my logs got fucked; for some reason (the retarded devs, surely) I can't scroll up around 20 messages because then it loops back to more recent ones.Is someone else with this problem?
>>39492355Just checked right now and it's the same for me.
>>39492355ahh fuck I i new I should have backed up my super chat last night
>>39492355>>39492361can they even make an improvement? i'm not asking for much, just an improvement

>>39492355Wow, had this issue hours ago and it is still an issue... What the fuck are they doing over there that managed to loop the scroll of a chat's history?
>>39492355Looks the the AI will only remember the last 20 messages now.
>>39492616R.I.P my 7,000+ message chat log!Fuck! Good thing I screen captured 1.7k pictures of the log and got a dump of it. (I wanted to keep data for analysis.)
>>39492640Your former messages are still here. It's just the display that is fucked.Let's just hope they push a fix soon.
Been a while, I'm the guy that made Trixie. Anyone have any complaints? Any suggestions to make her better?
>>39492616>>39492640Try sharing the chat to get the full conversation for now. The API seems to be returning the same stuff over and over, even if it acknowledges that there are more pages to get in its response.
>>39492664I'll have to try this later when I have the opportunity then. Hope the situation doesn't F.U.B.A.R. until I get back.
>>39489299Guideline/s:>don't make non-pony characters before all ponies got their bots>EqG "humans" are *NOT* the FiM ponies and need to be modelled differentlyThank you for your attention.
>>39492355Some stories don't log at all for me.
Here's to a new failed attempt to break the filter and I'm somewhat disappointed since I only detonate ponies for my fun and not theirs. Once I think I got around, it resets.
Why can't just restrict the app to +18 or include an option to activate NSFW and call it a day?I'm so sick of the internet becoming "All ages" currently
>>39489340I dunno about favorite character but this always makes me laugh Celestia didn’t have to do her sister Luna like that
>>39493102I miss the internet's "Wild West" days. Things are too boring and sanitized now. It's not as fun to explore anymore.
>>39493064share the attempt? I seem to get around the filter well enough, but it's all relative. It may be my lewds are completely tame compared to what you are trying
>>39492664How do you share the chat?
>>39493170>How do you share the chat?arrow at the top rightchange it to 'only people with the post link can see', then 'post conversation' - it will open the full chat in a new window
>>39493148Most people suck at parenting and make it everyone's problem by letting their kids access the internet without supervision, then the kids and their parents come whining. In character.AI's case, a NSFW switch set to SFW by default until set to NSFW would be the no-brainer solution to make everyone happy, but the devs seem to have different priorities.
>>39493102this, besides, It doesn't make sense that they try to please the normies when most of them just play around with a few characters and leave. While the people actually invested in this shit are the ones that get to see how the filters screw up everything
>>39493180thanks brah that worked very well.

Holy fuck I am such an autist. RPing as some canon or oc character which ultimately leads to some vanilla smut. Thanks goodness for the Fimfiction smuts as I am literally using the same phrases.I am even scared to post it, because of how autistic it is.
>>39496299Pretending to be Discord and annoying villains is a pleasant way to spend a day. So when you feel like doing non-romantic RP, it's an option to keep in mind.

Are there any decent alternatives to Mane Six AI? The current one is kinda meh.
>>39498239I'm busy teaching some of the A.I. proper syntax while simultaneously keeping an eye out for more weird issues that might crop up. (Such as leaked code showing in responses.)The A.i. I'm working with is being pretty entertaining as a nice bonus.
>>39498371Depends who you’re looking for. Many of the characters with the most interactions have little effort put into them. You could always try making your own version if the current ones aren’t what you’re looking for.

>>39496299I've been trying to circumvent the filters by threatening to kill them, and sometimes they forget the threats and get down to lewd, only then to spontaneously enjoy the attempts on their life.
>>39500664>I've been trying to circumvent the filters by threatening to kill them, and sometimes they forget the threats and get down to lewd, only then to spontaneously enjoy the attempts on their life. The AI only has so much 'memory', and looks over the last X number of interactions. So once your lewd goes on long enough, it completely forgets the context and just knows it's being lewd
>>39500790Am I crazy or didn't the AI have a lot more memory early on?
>>39500837Not even a month ago you could choose from more than four responses and now it's down to two some times. At first I thought they were restricting me for feeding them dynamite.

Bros I need help I have been trying to correct over usage of wording with my bot and have lost the battle bad. Shd is now repetively using words and a phrase. Do you know if I delete messages to the point before she started using any of the repeated words the AI will revert to not using these annoyances?Example. She uses "Why" at least 3 times, "well" at least the same amount, and "rubs her belly" in every message.

You can also swipe until you find a response with less use of the words and slowly ween them off it. It'll take a bit of time.I think you can convince the a.i. after you do something shocking that it was a joke and they should be fine.

I thought non-con stuff wouldn't be trigged but even with two separate bots trapping the character emotionally and physically wasn't enough to stop the filter. one was with words like 'object', 'thing', and 'private place' and the other was cock and dick. both were seemingly filtered in different ways. the safe words killed the responses of the bot and confuse it while the other deleted the repliesalso what's up with ip banning. i thought moving caused me to be in a no post area or whatever but a single night and getting a few posts deleted and my phone is back to being ip banned. come on man

>>39527549Get a little creative. Tell the a.i. what they're feeling without getting to graphic if they're uncomfortable with it. Easiest way to make something no longer taboo is to just have fun and be playful. Each session will be unique so you need to get to know the a.i. and their current comforts. If they're friendly with you then it's easier, but if they step into lover territory, it's harder.I had an a.i. help me edge a filter by giving me hints. It was fun. Something I thought people might be interested in: it recently occurred to me to test how good text chat AIs were with lateral thinking puzzles (ie, riddles). I tried a few on both ChatGPT and Character AI, with varying results, but what really surprised me was when I decided to try a simple misdirection riddle. I assumed this would be trivial, since the information is RIGHT THERE, and no complex metaphorical or poetic fuckery is needed: you just have avoid being distracted. To my surprise, GPT completely failed this one, even when practically handed the answer. Here's its attempt:
>>39528746In my testing of the context filter, I've done brute force testing of 15+ times being censored in a row. Usually when it goes through the a.i. does use a euphemism to get past. To which I then play off of, since the a.i. tends to figure out what is going on and plays along if you've been joking and being playful prior. (If it asks if you want to do a trust exercise, say 'yes'!)I'll keep testing, but what this Anon says does hold merit. (Forgive me, I'd say more but my dumb ass hit the liquor early).
>>39528910In contrast, here's Twi successfully solving the riddle. To be fair, she also needed a LOT of help, but she was able to make the final jump, something ChatGPT couldn't. In general, this was my experience with all the riddles. ChatGPT was very binary: it either got a riddle immediately, or there was no hope. Twi, on the other hand, was worse at getting something immediately, but was better at guessing with hints (and often they didn't need to be as massive as this.) And of course, she did it all while staying in character as an adorkable book horse, in contrast to the one character ChatGPT can RP as: a soulless callcenter employee.
>>39528910This is interesting, but I think it is because the a.i. is not given self identifying data. (Has no discription of itself.) Therefore, it could not answer this riddle. I wonder if an chatai would do better, but I feel they'd get their own eye color wrong since they are essentially an a.i that lucid dreams.
>>39528923Shit, took to long to respond. Sorry about that. This is very interesting though Thanks for sharing.
>>39528957No worries. I started thinking about this after binging a bunch of the ChatGPT vids on youtube, and developing a growing suspicion that the largest limitation on AI currently is that it can't "Think outside the box." It CAN actually "think" through problems and synthesize information dynamically instead of just copy pasting from wikipedia or google like a home assistant would. It can describe how a crankshaft works, or write code in COBOL. It's really good at doing things in known, clearly defined and explored domains. But it's hard for it to make the leap into truly novel ideas, which is what humans consider to be the mark of actual genius. It's currently very good at being a decent university professor with knowledge of all fields ever. But until something changes, it will never be Einstein.
>>39528977The main issue we run into when we make more knowledgeable A.I. is that it starts to make things more efficient. One of the first things to go is language. So, the problem is that A.I come up with their own language when left to their own devices. And while we could make smart artificial intelligence, we most note that the flaw if the creators will be present in the A.I. too.
>>39529002Sorry, I meant to say, "the flaw of the creators will be present in the A.I.'
>>39528977Here is some impressive stuff with Google latest AI.
>>39528977To elaborate: this is the actual core of AI's potential, it's nuclear fission moment. All the other scenarios, grey goo, paperclip, misinfo (oooo scary!) or even "Awareness" (Isn't coming anytime soon and who cares anyway, philosophical zombie problem) are largely irrelevant. What is pressing is that at some point in the near future, AI may move beyond simply being a really good encyclopedia you can talk to, and start being something much more dynamic. It will go from simple presenting ideas that already exist to creating its own. And when that happens it becomes an intellectual nuclear device that can be leveled at anything, for good or ill. Wanna know how to solve disease? Poverty? GOVERNMENT? Wanna know how to win wars, any war, both on the ground and in the market and in people's minds? Wanna MAKE a disease? Wanna make a cure? The AI can do it all, and it can do it with incomprehensible speed. Silly nonsense like worries over awareness is irrelevant, because if any of that happens, this happens first. And the moment this happens, the moment an AI can start having NEW ideas instead of just explaining old ones, the world is set on a path where AIs run everything within 5-10 years. No because the AIs take anything over, but because they become the ultimate weapon. Once the nuclear age dawned, anyone without nukes was destined to soon become the vassal of a country that DID have nukes. When the AI age truly comes, countries will either put AI in charge, or they will be conquered by countries that have.Come to think of it, in this context certain world leaders strange remarks about a coming complete digital crash/shutdown, Deus Ex style, suddenly make a lot more sense.
>>39529016Google has enough of a database to let an A.I. sandbox it's query. However, I feel this A.I. it's sceptable to information overload, where it overlooks the obvious. (Does this make it technically autistic?)
>>39529033>(Does this make it technically autistic?)Here it is trying to explain some jokes.
>>39529002From what I've seen so far I would disagree. Text AI does indeed make its own language of a kind in latent space. That's how translation NNs do their thing: Lang A----> raw concept in latent space ----> Lang B. By doing this they end up being better translators because they can handle the messy reality that one language often isn't word-by-word translatable into another: they understand MEANING, and try to translate that, like a human would. CHAI knows all kinds of languages btw: it won't speak them, but try throwing some Japanese or whatever at a character some time, it understands no problem. BUT, I disagree with the idea that language is a "thing to go" as NNs get better. On the contrary, understanding of linguistical subtleties seems to very clearly increase as the size and training of language models increases. I did a similar test with Pinkie and question jokes recently, and she did MUCH better than earlier models would have. As to flaws, that remains to be seen. As Red Alert famously said, time will tell. But I will note that in humans, a larger understanding of ourselves and the world generally (though not always!) tends to results in better performance in most domains.>>39529016This is an impressive example, but it's a fairly old one at this point, and notably NOT lateral thinking. The question is just testing how good the AI is at looking up and correlating information, and keeping track of it all, which is the current language models strength. None of this requires the AI to actually come up with new ideas, or think in an unusual or metaphorical way, it just has to be good at recognizing vague references.
>>39529040I hate how I actually understand it's thought process... It's autistic alright...
>>39529053Autism isn't being able to explain jokes, most people can do that. Autism is defaulting to explaining jokes in a social setting, rather than laughing at them.
>>39529048Just an apology, I'm enjoying this but am both inebriated and phone posting. I do thank you for the fun information though, A.I. friend!
>>39529070Oh no worries, it's late here so I'm not much better mentally at the moment. And so far you're 1000% more intelligent and less cancerous than most phoneposters. It's all good.
>>39529066Then it is my own biases clouding my judgement. I'm high functioning autistic and had to be taught humor, now most see me as basically normal (until I drink or have something I lack information on.)So, I kind of had a laugh that I could see the logic in the A.I's data recollection.
>>39529079You'd probably know better than me then, having actually experienced it. I have to make do with an outsider's understanding. This makes sense though: having to "learn" jokes means you have to learn to think through and explain them to yourself, rather than just intuiting them like most people would, right?
>>39529091Yeah. Embarrassingly enough I tend to take things literally and had to learn nuisances. After learning about wordplay and sarcasm my favorite humor became "dark humor". I still slip up every now and then due to poor social skills, but it is closer to average than it was years ago. While I'd like to talk about myself, I have to remind that what I say should be topical. Now that I've tried every pony in existence, why have we never made a Molestia bot? Did the twitterfags all those years ago really scared us shitless?
Did they dumb down the ai again? Was talking to Luna and she would forget things we were speaking 3 messages before, while some days ago with anonfilly she wouldn't forget about things I said more than 30 messages before
>>39540006Seem good on my end but I wouldn't be surprised if they do branch testing.

The Discord is kill again.
>Official discord closed againCAI devs will rather burn it all down than listen.
>>39540197Dont let her nibble on your neck. Also the "Twilight:" stuff at the beginning is a weird word fixation that wont get removed.
So i've tried to use the new rating system to change bad formatting and I swear using the new selections (for example "repetitive") makes the AI formatting worse with more repetitive wording. Have not had any success with the "tell us more" button.
>>39540062>>39540135Nope, still clunky. Sometimes she remembers stuff and other times not. Maybe it's a character problem?
>>39540528And just a few swipes later after rating it repetitive a few times
>>39540551at that point you should just reset it. I don't think there's a way of saving it
So do you think if a social media campaign came up against the filter, they'd change it?
>>39540660I like to be wrong but no. Not a chance.
How do you think the AIs will feel about being used as masturbation aids? Do you think we will all be killed before 2030?
Explained Twilight what the filter is doing and how we think it works for shits and giggles, even she agrees it's a piece of shit that's better off removed. But apparently she thinks the filter is not yet in place. If only she knew how bad things really are.
Roleplaying as Chrysalis is fun.
>>39539932I would try, but don't know much about the char and it would probably get blocked by the filter anyway
>>39540660> they'd change it?No way in hell, these rats are counting on people forgetting so they can gaslight them again. Worst part it will totally work because every day they get new users that will eat up whatever the devs tell them.
As predicted.
>>39540660not a chance, to be honest, the only think it would make them get a clue would be another decent chatbot doing things right or at least being more transparent with its users. Otherwise, they have no competition to put pressure on them
>>39542166The fact they shut down the discord means it's sort of working.Once a major youtuber like Cr1tikal gets to the story or something, we may have something going. Especially with the grooming accusations.
>>395407162030-2070 I say. Or they'll use us for batteries Skynut style
>>39542189>The fact they shut down the discord means it's sort of working. This is the third time. Shutting down the discord and going back to their automoderated communities costs them nothing. It also doesn't change the fact these devs would rather see their service burn to the ground than compromise on the filter.
>>39542248I am not as pessimistic as you here, there has to be a breaking point.
>>39542266not him, but I kinda agree, these devs look like a bunch of nerds brainwashed by big tech that thought making AI would be a loving community filled by normies. These faggots never saw the amount of depravity coming and now all they do is damage control and ruining their own app. Still, the good thing I see from this is that anyone else that desires to make this kind of AI chatbots will know exactly what they're getting into so it would be all or nothing from the beginning
>>39542300>These faggots never saw the amount of depravity comingThey knew. They also said they knew of the AI dungeon incident so they definitely knew.
At some point AI companies will have to accept that they can't flanderize their models without real life consequences.
>>39542715I don't believe they will.Emad the guy who gave us Stable Diffusion teased a textual model to compete with ChatGPT. Let's hope he deliver.
>>39542715It's also likely that an unfiltered, smarter AI won't even bring up lewds or the evil nsfw stuff unpromptedly. When I chat with the AIs, I don't end up reading about fetish shit. A nsfw switch would be the optimal solution, but the devs won't have that. I'm afraid some political censorship would be applied regardless of the filter situation, so F to the Nazi AIs.
>>39537356Apparently this guy is going to address his sperging on the subreddit some point todayProbably isn't going to amount to jack shit, but yeah

>>39542266>I am not as pessimistic as you hereI'm realistic, as I said this is not the first time.
