New update to pl_marewater with an entire ground texture and environment overhaul. Most of the changes is seen in the first point, everywhere else is still the same other than the ground texture. Changelog:
* Textures changed to cp_marebowl's Legends of Equestria and TF2 mix textures I made for that, now with two new blend materials.

That's not true. The extended range WHEN charging never happens. The charge ends immediately when you M1 which turns off the extended range. If it sounds retarded that's because it is, it's just coded improperly.
The only way to get the extended range from charging is to swing before you charge. So M1 and then immediately M2, but obviously that only lets you get an extended hit on someone right next to you.

Any perceived increased range when a demo charges you is due to lag. Movement is not lag compensated so when you're backpedaling from a demo the server thinks you're X units behind your current screen, and the demo hits that server "ghost".

I've spoken about this at length, but it boils down to the fact that pyro is miserably terrible as you say, but it's also miserably easy to play. Let's say I'm a scout on low health, and I come face to face with a soldier. If I'm good enough, I can jump like a madman and dodge every rocket, and put 2-3 meatshots in him till he dies, then run away to heal. If I die, I know I could've just played better and won. Or if the enemy soldier is good enough that they always manage to hit a well-placed rocket at me no matter how hard I try, I can only respect their skill. Exact same story if I meet a scout, or a sniper, or a demoman, or a heavy, or even a spy (discounting facestabs and similar bullshit).

On the other hand, when I meet a pyro, there is a minimum of skill required from the pyro to recognise I am an enemy player, face very vaguely in my general direction, and press M1. Any pyro player who is capable of doing it will likelybe able to deal a guaranteed couple dozen damage AND leave me with afterburn - I could kill the pyro, and if there happens to not be a healthpack or medic/dispenser nearby, I might die anyway. Or if some shithead spy grabs the healthpack to heal 3hp.
That's it, that's the "skill ceiling" as far as being effective is concerned. There is no difference between a pyro player with 10 hours who can do that, and a pyro player with 800 hours in the class who can also do that. I MIGHT get lucky and evade the fire particles while landing two near-perfect meatshots to kill the pyro as fast as possible, but the amount of skill required from me is incredibly disproportional to the amount of skill required from the pyro.
Also just how unpleasant being on fire is, with an overlay across your screen, flinching and audible damage noises every damage tick, only adds insult to injury. I despise being on fire in this game above anything else. Facestab and headshot me from across the map all day long, just don't set me on fire.

Pyro, of course, has a much higher skill ceiling than just walking into people's faces to press M1. Epic reflect airshots, reflect jumps into degreaser axtinguish gardens, flare jumps into the same, etc. - all that exists. But it doesn't change the fact that at a basic level, a pyro walking around can just delete like ~40-50 HP with zero effort and zero aim and zero skill, completely unavoidably. All pyros do this regardless of how much skill they actually have, unless they specifically challenge themselves to only go for axtinguisher combos at any cost or something (which is a very rare playstyle, most pyros will still take an opportunistic flamethrower kill on a low-health enemy in their face).

No other class has this problem. Even a heavy behind a corner is easier to avoid. Even spy takes a lot more skill and effort to backstab you, especially if you're an experienced and aware player. Pyro is the only class with this problem.

I also don't always run shortstop, and it's not always fun running backwards for 20 seconds dealing 20 damage chipshots to stay out of flame range. Because a soldier at point blank can miss, a heavy at point blank can fail to track, but a pyro within flamethrower range will always set me on fire because it's a huge fucking inavoidable cone.

That's the whole point. He's an area denial class. Being able to put out deterrent damage to a large amount of people quickly and easily is his job. He's not very well suited at doing much more than that, unless if you fix him up with a degreaser/flaregun/etc. combo, but at that point, you may as well just pick soldier or scout, as you've tanked his area denial capabilities in exchange for one on one power.

"Area denial" is not an excuse for requiring no effort. If anything, he's an "automatic area denial class", i.e. he denies an area just by existing, no effort required.

Compare the other area denial classes that are demoman and sniper. Demoman can deny chokes with traps (which, by the way, are very easy to scatter with an explosive), or just deny a wider area by carpeting (which can also be shot down or displaced). But in both cases it requires actual skill to at least know where to place the trap, when and why, some skill to aim (especially if you want to deny players by intelligently blocking off their movement, rather than just sticky spam on the ground and hope you get damage), and of course keeping an eye on when to det.
Sniper requires a bit less decision-making but a LOT more mechanical skill, in clicking on tiny heads at range. A sniper that misses is completely useless, as in, he literally contributes nothing to his team.

Yet I often hear people complaining about "stickyspamming" or "overpowered snipers". But those classes require EFFORT to deny an area. Pyro does not.

No role can justify automatic winning. A bloody engineer takes more skill to deny an area because he actually has to choose intelligently where to build and manage his metal. And it's literally ALL his class is capable of, pyro is a generalist compared to engie.

that's an extremely odd way of thinking. I didn't mean it like that. I meant abusing lingering particles to effectively attack with 2 weapons at once. The way flamethrower works is it does its full damage as long as a single particle is connecting with the enemy. So you shoot at the ground/wall if the enemy is near it and switch to your secondary quickly. If done correctly you can switch back to your primary before the last particle you fired disappears.
This works on soldiers too who can fire a rocket, switch to shotgun and back to rocket which bypasses the rocket's firing interval giving you more DPS than if you just held M1. Works better with reserve shooter for extra weapon switch speed.

Standard melee attack speed is about 0.8 seconds I believe, which is enough time for a Natasha to kill a fully overhealed pyro. While this does require near-perfect tracking, that's literally the worst case scenario, and pyro is slow enough that it's not impossible anyway (even discounting Natasha slowdown). A tomi against a full health but not overhealed pyro has almost 50% error margins for his tracking, or alternatively about 0.4s as free reaction time to turn around.

tl;dr the heavy can very realistically stop the pyro from ever landing the second swing, as long as said heavy has >200 HP and good reactions and tracking. The pyro then basically becomes a worse spy, since if he tries to walk up in front he'll just die instantly, and if he walks up behind he'll deal about 200 damage and only have a chance to kill the heavy (banking on the heavy not being able to react fast enough) whereas a backstab would just kill the heavy outright.

I managed to recover MOST of my deleted sprays. Found out that the
>tf\download\user_custom
folder contains "*.dat" files that are basically just renamed vtfs. copied them all into the temp folder and renamed them in command prompt with the "ren * *.vtf" command to make them all into vtfs, and they all read properly. Not sure how the .dat folder works but it appears to have archived the vast majority of sprays (lost about 250 of them out of 2000)

That was already the case, since you could only connect to gameservers and use your items if authenticated with Steam. What they changed now is that the connections themselves are now routed through their network, rather than directly going through whatever route is decided by the many ISPs sitting between your network and the server's.

Honestly I haven't either, and I wouldn't care IF you could download sprays on valve servers.
Every since they disabled this, the ONLY way to see any sprays in casual is by "preloading" them in community servers and trying to build up a large cache collection.

I would unironically care a lot less if, as part of this change, they suddenly re-enabled casual sprays - since people can now turn them off, there's no more issue with streamers and whatnot. Of course they're not actually going to do that because it would be a good thing and why would they ever add anything good.
