This image is wonderful and I wrote you a song for it. I'd like to think kayaking under the half moon is nice up north. When the windigoes aren't out the bay turns to a black glass with white chunks of floating out a stark contrast, almost glowing with reflected light, the chiaroscuro effect mirroring the dark and light of the moon overhead. Filly sleeps under her hooves, relaxed by the gentle rocking and rhythmic splash of the paddles, and snowmare hums her a little kayaking tune as they go.

I'd suggest listing to some traditional Sámi music. You could also take inspiration from inuit music but a lot of it is very throaty throat singing.
And of course, traditional Nordic or Scottish music may lead to inspiration as well. Hell you even could take some inspiration from Christmas songs as long as you don't lean too heavily on them.

Requesting a continuation of this green:
>The crystal guard jumped at a sharp knock on the gate.
>A visitor?
>At the front gate?
>But visitors always arrive by rail!
>Traveling to the empire by hoof was dangerous at the best of times.
>That he was even stationed here was mostly a formality, a holdover from their ancient fear of the evil King Sombra.
>He cautiously slid the viewing port open and saw a... mare?
>Just an ordinary greyish-tan earth pony standing casually in the hoof-deep snow, her mane buffeted by the punishing winds beyond the barrier.
>The guard had to resist the urge to gawk.
>How was she even still alive!?
>Trying not to let his ears fold back, he nonetheless couldn't prevent the fear and confusion from creeping into his voice.
>"W-Who goes there? State your business!"
>She smiled and raised a friendly hoof toward what little she could see of his face.
"Hello! I am called Frosty Flakes of the Eskimare. I am come on behalf of Chieftain Baba. Will you allow my entry to express greetings to your leaders from my people?"
>By the Sun and Moon, the mare wasn't even shivering!
>"What... ARE you?"
>The words were out of his snout before he could stop himself.
>She tilted her head with an inquisitive look.
"Um, I am a pony? As I said, of the Eskimare snowpony tribe. Do you have difficulty seeing me? Is this improved?"
>She stepped a bit closer and turned sideways with a hopeful smile.
>There was a simple satchel draped across her withers and a simple sash in her mane, but she wore nothing else.
>No protective gear.
>No winterized boots.
>Not even a bucking scarf.
>Deeply unnerved, the guard mumbled something unintelligible and promptly galloped away to find his superior officer.
>Some time passed and poor Frosty Flakes was starting to get a little bored and more than a little worried.
>Had she made some mistake of etiquette?
>Or were the old teaching ballads mistaken?
>Maybe the gemponies were not as welcoming as they had believed.
>She had been so looking forward to reconnecting with their ancient allies, too.
>But eventually the news made its way up the chain of command, was confirmed not to be a poorly conceived joke, and an official decision was made.
>Shining Armor himself led a squad of guard ponies to escort her to the Princess.
>They hoped the mare would consider it a sign of respect, but truth be told Shining was more concerned with the threat of trickery than honoring this mysterious ambassador.
>So when two guards swung the heavy metal bar up and the big doors slowly creaked open, it was really no wonder Shining reacted the way he did.
>The moment the doors opened, Frosty let out a delighted squee and trotted forward, raising a hoof to give the former captain a hug of greeting.
>There was a flash of purple light and next thing she knew she was lying on the ground with a half dozen spears pointed at her muzzle.

>>
>>37524701
Ignoring the pretty music, I posit this exceptionally difficult feat is mastered by Shadmares and specially trained tribesponies in their younger years, though few can maintain into old age. As we know, snow ponies manifest the magical ability of snowwalking like Pegasi and clouds or Legolas and…also snow. Effectively this means that while on snow they exert no downward force, or rather, the snow exerts exactly their weight worth of upward force. With focus and some mystic shenanigans, an athletic shamare can step from falling snowflake to falling snowflake, climbing them into the sky as long as it’s snowing hard enough to provide sufficient flakes to reach from one to the next. Although this trick takes considerable effort and can’t really be maintained for travel, it’s a nice gimmick and can probably get you to the top of a small cliff or tall tree in a real pinch.

Hay guys, can my OC’s join in?
>>
>>37527336
What's their name? Avalanche?
>>
>>37527336
Looks like a NEET snowmare that neglected to properly manage the shedding of her winter coat for a few years.
>>
>>37527336
>killed the yaks
>all of them
>every single one
>took their pelts as a trophy
>going to take actual, literal years to get the smell out of them
>also holy mackerel is it heavy
>had to ask ryu from street fighter to help bring the all yak pelts back
>genocide is very tiring
And that, young ones, is how our great great great great great great great grandpatriarch purified the tundra and brought peace to our lands.
>>
>>37527349
She is actually very fat and the pony mushing her is Viscous Viper.

My Winter Storm - https://ponepaste.org/5713

>You set her back down into the sled, and prepared to keep moving.
>You weren't lying, you were on a schedule.
>Not a super-strict-twilight-esque schedule, but one just the same.
>Laska seemed to feel much better after your little talk, opting to walk along side the sled instead of riding.
>She would even occasionally stop to pick herbs along the forest trail.
>"Look Anon! more red amantias!"
>You roll your eyes as she rushes over to pick the red and white speckled mushrooms with her mouth, tossing them into her saddle bags.
>"A key ingredient in the production of restorative potions and salves, though it doesn't grow naturally in Equestria. They have to grow it in green houses. I thought we'd find some, but I didn't think there would be so much!"
>You shrug.
"Yea... not many ponies picking in these parts, so everything is plentiful."
>For the longest time you never thought she would get a cutie mark in herbalism of all things.
>You're not sure why you felt that way, she was adopted by the royal apothecary after all.
>With all the time she spent enjoying the gardens, her love of plants should be no surprise.
>Fate and cutie marks have a strange relationship.
>You laugh to yourself as she bounces between patches that have yet to be buried in snow, filling her bags to the brim.
>Sometimes she falls a little bit behind, but you walk at a pace that allows her the chance to catch up.
>Will she even get a chance to use all of these?
>Probably not.
>Using your hand to shield your eyes, you check the sky for the position of the sun.
>Almost directly overhead.
>"Oof!"
>You look over as Laska trips over her mane while trying to pick more herbs.
>You chide her in amusement
"When are you going to cut that mane? It must be hitting your knees by now."
>"Never."
>She pokes her tongue out at you, and you stick yours out right back.
"Watch out with that whole 'Dork' thing - I'll just beat you with experience."
>She pokes her tongue again, and picks another herb from the patch.
>You roll your eyes and put your attention back on the trail.
>This is perfect, as long as you keep this pace you should arrive early.
>As you climb further into the hills, the tree cover becomes thicker.
>Combine that with the gradually setting sun, and the world begins to become much darker.
>And the cold starts to settle in.
>>
>>37527670

>And then you hear it - the faint howl of a wolf in the distance.
>Laska hears it too, and she shrieks as the sound sends chills up her spine.
>"W-what was that?"
>She rushes to your side, holding onto your leg.
>You didn't want to answer, because you know exactly what it was.
"Frost Wolves."
>Laska looks up at you, concern dominating her features.
>"F-frost wolves? There are wolves here?"
>You nod.
>Another howl echos in the distance.
>And its noticeably louder.
>Closer...
>Shit.
>Without thinking, you pick up Laska with one arm, and walk over to the crate she had been hiding in earlier.
>You pop open the lid and gently place her inside.
>"Anon, I'm scared."
"Good. You should be. It means you have a good head on your shoulders."
>You scan the woods for signs of life, but see none.
>You still have time.
"Laska, listen to me very carefully."
>You cup one of her cheeks in your palm, making sure you have her full attention before continuing.
"If something happens to me, You need to stay in this crate as long as you can, alright?"
>She doesn't respond, and you continue anyway.
"As long as you have food and water. If you run out, you need to take the sled back to the train station, alright? There should be enough supplies in the crates for you to wait for the next train."
>She starts trembling.
>"B-but, w-hat..."
"Promise me you can do that, ok?"
>She hesitates, then nods, her eyes glistening with tears.
>"Please don't leave me."
>You half smile
"I don't plan on it. That's just the plan B, ok?"
>She sobs.
>You gently close the lid, making sure the lid is reasonably snug, but still able to be opened from the inside.
>You fish your key back out of your pocket, opening the valuables chest at the back of the sled.
>Grabbing the sash of vials, the chain mail hauberk, and the iron helm, you trudge back up to the front of the sled.
>You briefly remove your parka to work your way into the chain mail.
>It's extremely uncomfortable without a gambeson, but your options are limited by time.
>You put your parka back on over top, and tie the sash with vials across your chest.
>The last resort.
>You place the helm on your head.
>Heavy and cold.
>You begin pulling the sled forward with one hand, your other hand resting on the grip of your sword as you move the sled forward along the frozen path.
>The going is much slower than the leisurely pace you had taken before.
>The air is getting colder.
>Unnaturally frigid.
>They're getting close.
>Actually, you hope its not more than one
>You grab a flint and steel, lighting one of the many torches you had packed with the supplies, holding it in the same hand that you held onto the sled rope.
>Your eyes scan the darkening forest, scanning for hints of what you know is coming.
>You wait for the signal...
>>
>>37527677

>There!
>The brief glint of frost brushes across your face.
>Now!
>You draw your sword with an almost unnatural haste.
>But instead of drawing the blade out, you strike forward with the pommel.
>You grunt with the effort of the attack, and you strike solid.
>The gust of frosty air whips around you.
>You couldn't even see what you struck, but you check the pommel of your sword.
>It's covered in a viscous blue substance.
>You know what it is - Blood of a Frost Wolf.
>Dropping the rope of the sled, you chuckle to the woods, stepping out ahead on the path with torch in one hand, sword in the other.
"It must be your first time, feeling your own blood spilled."
>You taunt the woods through gritted teeth.
>The adrenaline is already ramping up.
>It's about to be a fight for your life.
"Are you truly that weak, COME ON!!"
>You shout, the last syllable echoing through the snow capped peaks.
"SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!"
>Careful, don't let yourself get carried away.
>Watch for the eyes, the blue orbs.
>They are practically invisible when moving through the snow.
>It's what makes them so dangerous.
>The only thing you can see are the eyes.
>Like a pair of floating lapis lazuli.
>Watch, wait, react...
>There!
>You see them coming, but its too late.
>The jaws of a massive white wolf lunge at you with, teeth glistening with anticipation.
>It's as if they came out of the snow itself.
>You don't have nearly enough time to move, and the jaw clamps down on your sword arm.
>It hurts like hell, but the sleeve of the chain mail absorbs the brunt of the bite.
>You swing with the torch at the head of the creature, but it releases its grip and retreats back to the cover of the snow before you can strike it.
>In a wisp of snow-laden air, the wolf is already gone, back into the embrace of the snow.
>You grunt in pain, keeping your eyes peeled on your surroundings, waiting for the next attack.
>They fear the flame because they are vulnerable to it.
>Thank god you spent enough time reading about this shit in the Canterlot Archives.
>You don't think you're bleeding, but that is for sure gonna leave a nice big bite-shaped bruise.
>You're not sure how more of those you can take.
>You feel a rush of air from behind.
>You turn to face it, swinging your sword in a wide chopping motion underneath your other arm, hoping to catch something.
>The wolf was going for a body shot, but missed you entirely.
>Of course that also meant that you missed it as well.
"Ha... you're losing your touch..."
>You taunt the whiteness again, swinging your torch.
"I'll have you know you're not the first frost wolf I've killed. You won't be the last either."
>You swing your sword haphazardly to your side.
"I think your pelt will make a nice cape."
>It really would, actually...
>You catch the eyes again, and you're ready for it this time!
"Yes!"
>You prepare a jab at the incoming orbs, but they retreat before even attempting another attack.
>You feel a set of jaws instead clamp onto your leg.
>>
>>37527683

>Seeing as your legs are currently unarmored, the teeth easily break the the skin, sinking into the flesh below.
>You yelp in pain, instinctively swinging the torch at the offender.
>It retreats before being struck, and another set of jaws bites onto the arm holding the torch.
>Oh, fuck!
>There's more than one!
>This one grips onto you tightly, attempting to pull you down.
>Another one bursts from its snowy cover, colliding into your side and knocking you down into the snow.
>The snow does little to brace your fall, and you land painfully on your chest, scraping yourself in too many places to keep track of.
>Before you can roll over, a wolf is already on your back, snapping at your neck.
>You can barely move under its weight, but thankfully your helmet covers your neck well enough to keep the wolf from tearing it out.
>Another wolf grabs onto your left arm, shaking its head in an attempt to tear the flesh.
>Another bits into your thigh, doing the same.
>And another.
>And another.
>You yelp in pain as the wolves tear at you.
>This is it.
>This is where you die.
>After all these years tracking across Equestria and back, this is how its going to be.
>Eaten alive and torn to shreds by frost wolves.
>But then there's Laska...
>Laska...
>NO
>You can't die!
>You grunt with all your might, and you manage to work your right arm to the sash of vials.
>Luckily for you, you had landed on your arm and the wolves hadn't managed to grab it yet.
>You grab a specific vial based purely on muscle memory, and place it in front of your face.
>With as much force as you can muster, you bring down the bridge of your helmet onto the flask, shattering it.
>In an instant, your vision is filled with flames.
>The wolves immediately stop trying to tear you apart, screaming through the forest in a ball of flame while howling their death throes.
>You squint your eyes and begin rolling through the snow.
>Stop, drop, and roll.
>You roll yourself through the snow extinguishing the flames as quickly as you can.
>After you're certain you're no longer on fire, you lay on your back, looking up into the almost dark sky as the stars begin to twinkle.
>Holy fuck.
>Everything hurts.
>You manage to crane your neck to the left to see a circle where there was previously snow, still licked with flames and the foliage underneath now burned.
>You smirk to yourself.
>Gottem, fucking bastards.
>You breath in short breaths, attempting to lift yourself up on your still good arm.
>And the world goes dark.

>Eighth of October, 27th day of the Anon Northern Expedition
>Dear Paper Chase,
>I apologise in advance for the length of this letter but I’m afraid there’s simply too much for me to document and relate.
>Our meal with the snowponies yesterday was a simple enough affair.
>The folding tables we use for the cooking equipment aren’t large enough to accommodate all of us so we joined them in being seated together.
>I’m sure you remember our earlier days at the University where myself and my comrades would sit together, apart from ponies, until we ‘warmed up to you’, as you put it. I must confess that the feeling returned yesterday when the prospect of being seated among strange equines reared its head again.
>But we had neither the luxury of a spacious cafeteria, nor the leeway to believe we wouldn’t cause undue offence to our hosts.
>Instead, we made do with sitting together, assuming that the snowponies would seat themselves opposite us. Why wouldn’t we? Our relations haven’t been strained or otherwise fragile but they had no reason to stay so close to us.
>I’m sure you can imagine the surprise that spread amongst us when many sat right against ourselves and a few even pushed their way between us.
>Our linguist was astounded—and more than a little amused—to discover that Warm Embrace had related the previous night’s lack of huddling on our part to the rest of the group. Apparently, in spite of repeated assurances that our coats and other clothing were sufficient to keep us warm, they still worried both for our safety and for... something we’re still trying to translate.
>I’ve tried to capture the scene as I recall it in the sketch. You see Baba Hooves sitting almost next to Anon? I’m glad Warm Embrace is between them and I’m sure he felt the same. It still unnerves me to recall how she chewed at the hardtack with a smile on her face.
>Our cartographer and the mare he was arguing with shared a darne of the fish—Anon, our cook, says it’s something like grayling—which I hope indicates they’ve made amends over the earlier argument. With the language barrier it’s impossible to tell but she seemed settled enough.
>Please excuse the odd perspective, I’ve tried to mentally place myself opposite of where I sat. Our doctor is firmly wedged between myself and our cook, no doubt to avoid getting close to any of the snowponies for fear of what might happen. He hasn’t said if that’s the reason but I think it’s a safe assumption, at this point.
>At the least, he didn’t recoil too severely when one of the older mares—who through Warm Embrace, graciously shared that her name is ‘True North’—brought him what looked like a particularly fat darne of the fish. An attempt to assure him they mean him no further harm and possibly some measure of restitution?
>>
>>37531984
>Note also the seals gathered alongside the snowponies. We haven’t received much of an explanation beyond them being ‘friends’ and what our linguist has translated as, ‘<partners/compatriots> in our endeavour’.
>The foals in particular were quite fond of petting the seals as they offered some of the smaller fish that could be spared.
>As for myself, you can see the cream and grey mare who previously brought the basket to our doctor, sat herself by my side. I believe, owing to her cutie mark as well, that she’s one of the fishers who brought in this generous haul.
>So, I tried to make clear to her that the fish was most appreciated and tasteful. It certainly helps that our cook was able to put the small gas-burning stoves and pans to use in cooking them first.
>I’ve included a sketch of that, also, as I believe you’ll enjoy seeing the reactions of the snowponies to seeing us use that modern equipment.
>You can see the bay mare in particular was keenly investigating the gas stoves. First she started launching a tirade of questions to our cook before realising she was wasting her time and fetched Warm Embrace.
>I’m sure you can imagine the difficulty of translating under those circumstances but she was intensely interested in the heat output of the stoves, their adjustability, and the fuel.
>Why? And why her? I’m afraid we haven’t been able to adequately translate that, at least yet. All we have is her name: Bright Earth.
>Whatever the case, the meal proceeded without any unfortunate incidents. We may not have been able to talk with our hosts but their company, never mind their food, was more than welcome.
>From speaking with Anon afterwards, he was engaged in some discussion with Warm Embrace and Baba Hooves during it.
>And I confess I still feel a certain rush of excitement just thinking about it but we were to be brought to their village, to properly rest and more patiently discuss who we are and why we’re here.
>I’m sure you must be mentally composing your letter to me, chiding me about the importance of ‘maintaining a proper sense of professional detachment and objectivity in your observations’. But Paper, if you’d seen what we have, been treated as we have, you’d be struggling just as much as I am.
>I’m going to split this correspondence as I still have much to relate and must break momentarily.
>Your friend, soundly subjective,
>Anonymous

>Eighth of October, 27th day of the Anon Northern Expedition
>Dear Paper Chase,
>I think you’re going to like this one in particular.
>While I wasn’t privy to the exact details of the discussion between Anon and Baba Hooves, I have learned of one important detail from our linguist-turned-interpreter: we’re now under their care.
>Or rather, we’re honour-bound to each other.
>I’m afraid I don’t recall reading such instances in my studies of Equestrian hippology but certainly back on Earth, such beliefs aren’t or weren’t uncommon among certain types of societies.
>>
>>37531987
>You see, having shared food with one another, the snowponies are bound by tradition to allow no harm to come to us just as we in turn are not to harm them.
>While Anon was still understandably a bit reluctant to place his full trust in them, he agreed to their request for us to accompany them to their village. Personally, I didn’t see what further risk we’d be taking by doing so. If they wanted to capture or otherwise harm us, they’ve had more than ample opportunity to do so. And with the village so close that we could reach it within the day, even at our comparatively slower pace, then there’s no way we’d be able to outrun any search parties from it.
>But he’s our leader and ultimately the safety of our group is his responsibility. Which is why he turned down a most generous offer by our hosts that I’ll get to in due course.
>Recall from my earlier sketch the treeline close by to where the fishing party had set up. It’s within that forest that we found the village and make no mistake, it is a large enough settlement to be called so.
>I think, having seen where we were to be led, I understood Anon’s concern.
>Again, our gracious hosts offered to pull our laden sleds but this time along with their own and their travoises, now themselves laden with their haul from the fishing expedition.
>The foals of the group circled about our sleds, chattering to each other excitedly before taking off into the forest.
>Strange to say but while most of them showed the same lack of difficulty with the snow as Snow Glide, at least one of them periodically sank into the drifts. To their credit, the rest of the foals would slow down and help dislodge her. It warms the heart to see such camaraderie among children of even this far-flung place.
>As for the older mares, they easily kept pace with the rest of the group. One even bore a pair of the ‘saddlebaskets’ upon her back. From what little I’ve seen of their relations so far, I’ve little reason to believe she would’ve been burdened unduly so my assumption is that she requested the opportunity.
>True North stayed near our doctor, who thankfully showed no signs of trying to avoid her in turn. I think her generosity at the meal and her general demeanour have done much to ease the tension there. It also spared him observing Warm Embrace’s continued glances back at him. He was a little more sure-footed but still lagged.
>Still, Anon, our… He asked us to call him our ‘quartermaster’ and I neglected to use that term in a previous letter, owing to its ridiculousness. We’re not a military endeavour and while he may hold that background, it’s not a title that fits with our mission.
>I mention this here only because I know if he, somehow, gets his mitts on these letters I’ll never hear the end of it if I don’t at least mention it.
>To get back to my point, he’s been enjoying examining the travoises and sleds of the snowponies.

>Not to talk down the quality of craftsponyship of our own sleds but considering we’re now among the natives of this land, it’d be a hard task to beat their own knowledge of constructing sleds.
>How much of that is down to better weight distribution and how much to more sophisticated ergonomics, I leave to whatever report our ‘quartermaster’ may feel the need to draw up.
>In any case, I’ll direct your attention to the first sketch I’ve included.
>I hope you’ll forgive the roughness, that’s not down to any difficulty remembering on my part. Goodness no, I doubt I could forget stepping through the last of those trees and being greeted by that sight.
>What was I expecting?
>Not such sophisticated looking lodges, given what little we’ve seen of the snowponies before that but then I should’ve remembered what I said about their production of leather.
>I think it’s still the shock of encountering these ponies. I know I’m not alone in standing somewhat awestruck at these sights.
>From the small statuettes that adorn the pathways through the village, to the ornate carvings upon many of the doors and the logs of the structures themselves, the small decorations tied with colourful strips of cloth that hang from the eaves of their lodges, many of them look like trees or leaves though some almost look like conifer cones.
>It’s a hippologist’s dream come true and I’m only sorry you’re not here to see these things for yourself.
>The second sketch, I hope, provides a better view of our arrival in the village.
>I have to believe it’s thanks to the foals who ran ahead that a party was waiting for us but I’m still glad that the worst I can say about the greeting is the curiosity expressed by the villagers.
>An older mare stepped forward from the group to meet Baba Hooves and Warm Embrace, who continued on as Anon brought us to a halt.
>The discussion was, apparently, over bringing strange creatures with ‘magic fire’ into the village and any danger they might pose. Knowing what I know now, it’s obvious the adults didn’t place too much stock in whatever the foals had told them. Children are the same wherever you go, eh?
>Once the matter was cleared up—my guess, after it came to light we’d shared our meal—we were taken through the village proper.
>The other mares from the fishing expedition were met by others and stallions—the first we’ve seen so far, would you believe, which I’m sure I could write entire letters about on the subject thereof—who began to unload their sleds and travoises. A handful of others remained hitched to our own and pulled them along with us.
>I hope my third sketch gives some more detail to the drying racks they hang their fish upon. I’ve also included sketches of a few of the smaller buildings with copious smoke rising from them which I’d guess at being smokers. Especially if the aroma from those areas of the village is anything to go by.

>-N.B.: collect your thoughts and recompose.
>I’ll leave the last and probably most important matter to the third letter in this collection.
>Your friend, assuredly among friends,
>Anonymous

>Eighth of October, 27th day of the Anon Northern Expedition
>Dear Paper Chase,
>I’ll try to be brief both as I’m sure you’ve already had a lot to take in and because our doctor’s itching for me to accompany him on urgent business.
>We were led through the village, past more homes than I might otherwise have imagined from the group we initially met, interspersed with small places of industry - tanners, carpenters, etc..
>The lodge we stopped at was significantly larger than the others, its carvings more ornate and the lintel above the door was the only one I’ve seen that bore engravings in the shape of stylised stars.
>Though I must stress that I haven’t had the chance to more properly explore the village yet and so can’t state definitively if this lodge, that I’ve included a sketch of, is the only one to bear those marks.
>Baba Hooves and the older mare who spoke with her and Warm Embrace accompanied us there and inside. I’ve tried to give some sense of its scale with the sketch of its interior but in case it’s not clear, it’s too large to be a simple dwelling. More likely it’s some kind of gathering place but for what, I can’t yet say.
>Notice the extensive horseshoe motif? I haven’t noticed any of the snowponies wearing horseshoes but then I haven’t been examining them closely enough to tell, I think. That and their significant feathering leaves it quite difficult.
>If I had to guess—and my position necessitates that—it could be an indicator of a connection to the earth. These snowponies live in a forest, and rather than having made a clearing they’ve built around the trees. A respect for nature? Certainly that’s the case among earth ponies but I’d still rather not start making assumptions based on that when these ponies name themselves for something else entirely.
>The alcove at the corner was the only one and held a small idol. Whether it’s simply decorative or holds some religious/spiritual significance is something I don’t wish to guess at. Not until I’ve had the chance to make at least some inquiries though, with only the one linguist having so many asking for his time I’m sure you can imagine that I may yet be waiting.
>The fire in the pit at the centre of the hall was already lit upon our entering and the temperature difference from outside was immediately apparent. These snowponies are clearly competent builders.
>This was where the three snowponies who accompanied us inside—Warm Embrace, Baba Hooves, and the elderly mare who’d been introduced as Larch Bough—took to addressing Anon.
>>
>>37531994
>Larch formally welcomed us to her village, revealing that she is indeed its chief.
>’You have shared in our <food/meal/bounty>, now you share in our <embrace/safety/care>’ was the exact translation our linguist gave. She sat back on her haunches with her forelegs extended as if beckoning him into a hug. To his credit, he declined that and whatever faux pas we may have committed in doing so is, I’m sure, less than mistakenly engaging in such physical contact unwanted.
>I’d chalk Larch Bough’s reserved bearing up to that but she appeared so even before leading us to the lodge. Understand that when I say ‘reserved’, I don’t mean that she’s made us feel unwelcome here. I think, as a leader, she shares Anon’s outlook in shouldering the safety of her ponies so seriously. We’re an unknown to them as much as they are to us.
>And, of course, I have to remember that as cordial as the snowponies we’ve met have been so far, that’s no reason to think none of them differ in personality or temperament.
>I’ll be sure to have our linguist draw up a full and proper transcript of the discussion as I believe that only he can provide the correct insight. However there is the important matter I’ve yet to mention and I only regret now I’ve left myself so little time to address it.
>When Larch Bough had departed to tend to the needs of the village and we were left with Baba Hooves and Warm Embrace, we were given an offer. Though calling it a mere offer feels like I’m not doing justice to it.
>We were invited to sleep within the walls of their gathering lodge. A warm fire well fueled for the night, enough space for us to lay out our sleeping bags, and the hopeful suggestion that we might sleep close together.
>Sad to say that the moment was spoiled somewhat by Anon, one of our mountaineers, remarking that if these snowmares care so deeply for our apparent loneliness, maybe they should share their company with us.
>I relate this only to speak to the character of the rest of my compatriots: the looks of disgust and dismay on their faces were matched only by the swift clip behind the ear Anon received.
>Our leader declined the offer as graciously as he could, however, not wishing to impose further upon their already overwhelming generosity. I’m sure there’s more to it than that but I haven’t been able to spare the time to ask and he’s not related any other reasoning to the others.
>And now I must end this letter, my friend, as I look up from the drying ink and see our doctor giving me a look that could sour even the freshest milk.
>I’ll have more at the earliest possibility.
>Your friend, pulled about like a sled,
>Anonymous

>Warm Embrace sat by the fire of Baba Hooves’ lodge and dutifully drank from the cup of bitter tea she held between her hooves.
>The years since her fillyhood had not, in fact, done anything to improve its taste but when Baba asked somepony to sit and drink, it was a rare and regretful mare who declined.
>>
>>37531999
>”So none of the tales speak of them?” she said, glad for the opportunity to lower the cup from her muzzle and be free from the smell.
>She was sure Baba made a point to take longer with her own draught and found herself pressing at the cup in her hooves idly.
>”You think that if I knew I wouldn’t tell you?” asked Baba, when she’d finished drinking.
>Warm clicked her tongue and caught herself before she took another mouthful from the cup.
>She thought Baba knew more than she was letting on, as usual, but it wouldn’t do to approach it with that mindset.
>”It just doesn’t make any sense,” Warm said quietly. Baba still watched her, waiting, and so Warm continued, “where did they come from? Why haven’t any of the other tribes ever said anything about them?”
>”They come from the south, isn’t that what you told me?”
>It was and it wasn’t. Hiemal was the one who’d argued with the strange creatures when they’d presented their map. Trying to translate their odd language through that argument had been a true test, especially with Hiemal insistent that nothing could possibly have come from that far to the south.
>Which was true. It still didn’t answer any of the questions that brought Warm to where she sat, though.
>Baba, however, still wore her small knowing smile and waited for Warm Embrace to speak.
>”I don’t get the sense that they’re lying to us about that, though.”
>”Nor I, Warm.” The elder mare took another long sip from her cup before speaking again. “And perhaps there’s more truth to it than they realise. Or choose to say.”
>”Baba…” Warm groused.
>The mare chuckled and pointed a hoof at Warm’s cup. “Drink your tea and I’ll tell you.”
>Stars above but of course that’s what it’d come to. Baba insisted it was good for keeping one’s stomach settled but the effect the taste had on her own left Warm wanting to insist otherwise.
>She knew better than to try and find some way around it, though. The shaman would get the tea into her, one way or another.
>Steeling herself, Warm brought the cup to her lip and took the smallest sip she was sure Baba would allow her without insisting she take more.
>>
>>37532000
>”You’ll thank me tomorrow, Warm.” Baba took another sip from her cup and nodded. “And I’ll thank Forest Ken for getting me the herbs.”
>That old mare probably loved the taste just as much as Baba did, Warm was sure. Maybe there was something about that age which brought with it a penchant for awful teas and inscrutability.
>”Just as you’ll thank the stars for sending our guests to us.”
>If it were any other mare, Warm knew they wouldn’t see her cocking an eyebrow beneath the heavy bangs of her mane.
>”Tell me, Warm, have you been keeping an eye to the southern reaches of the night sky?”
>Warm nodded. “When I have to, same as everypony else.”
>The shaman took another sip from her cup before setting it down by the fire.
>”Then you should know of the sight there that hasn’t been seen in so long.” Raising her forelegs into the air, Baba traced out a shape that Warm followed but didn’t recognise. With a sigh, Baba took her cup back in her hooves and pointed it at Warm. “No, I can’t blame you. Even the few tales I know say little.”
>”So there are tales!” Warm set her own cup down and shuffled closer to the mare. “Baba, you have to tell me.”
>The mare shook her head and turned her gaze to her cup. “Not of our guests, specifically. And all I can tell you is that they’re an omen.”
>Warm frowned again. “You called them friends, Baba.”
>”And I still believe them to be. But friends often bring tidings, hmm?” Warm made to inquire but Baba spoke over her, “when are we next to leave for Snowpitt?”
>The question caught Warm off guard enough that she replied, “not until the next moon,” before realising how abrupt the shift had been.
>”Then have Snow Glide and the others start making preparations as soon as they can.”

>>
>>37533858
Her body will be torn apart by the centrifugal force anon, she will will be ripped limb from limb and become a bloody explosion and the chunks of her that go flying will be moving fast enough to kill more ponies. You can’t spin her anymore, slow her down gradually, It’s far too late for her already, but you can stop her from being mutilated beyond recognition and return her to her family, grave lesson learned, do not spin the ponies, their bodies cannot take the G-forces. For whatever solace it may bring at least she went unconscious first as all her blood went to her brain

Pinecones could mean a lot of things, Anon. Maybe she flourishes in crises, like a pinecone opening up only after a forest fire. Maybe it simply represents how she brings beauty in the world, like a pinecone growing into a beautiful tree. Maybe she’s a little prickly. Maybe she makes pine cone art. Maybe pinecones and fish are the standard offerings to the windigoes, offering life for life, and the seeds are representative of that life, and she’s deeply learned in windigo relationships.

Frosty Flakes Stage Theme
https://u.smutty.horse/mdeinhmxqct.mp3

I tried to reflect her friendly and bouncy personality with some tinkly ice sounds and a little modal mixing in minor in the background since it is a fight after all. Probably not done; I'm going to try to tune up the instrumentation some instead of using almost unaltered TAL presets but probably done for the night and if this is our last thread for a while I didn't want to miss the bump limit. Plus I'll probably just get bored and do something else, let's be honest. All grunts, hits, panting etc are bona fide pony sounds from the show if that makes anyone feel better.
