>The door to your home bursts open, and several black creatures come pouring in.>They stand in formation across your living room, staring you down menacingly with their lifeless eyes.>A particularly large one comes sauntering in, wearing a devilish smile.>She ducks her head beneath the doorframe to enter and plants herself in the center of your living room, flanked on both sides a squadron of chittering creatures.>"Hello there, squishy mammal," she croons. "I hereby claim this land, and the lives of all its inhabitants, in the name of the Changeling kingdom! Throw yourself at my mercy now, and I might consider sparing you, so that you might serve my drones in enchanted bon— what are you doing?!">With your hairbrush held in your teeth, you take a lock of her hair and straighten it out, looking it over carefully."Look at this. It's all tangled and matted.">You take the brush and run it through the lock in your hand, pulling free each knot with every pass through her hair.>She reels at your touch. "Release me, foul creature!">But, paying no mind to the fire in her eyes, you simply stare her down sternly."Stop fussing. I can't fix your hair if you keep fidgeting like that.">She falls silent, speechless as you take another lock and get to work brushing the length of it.>She's baffled by your obliviousness to the situation, not entirely sure how to proceed.>"What use is this nonsense? I am a queen! I have far better things to do than stand around—""Don't you want to be pretty?">"Pretty? Ha!">She pulls away from your grasp. >"Foolish cretin, I can assume any form I please!">With a smug smile, she transforms into a series of tall, gorgeous mares with shimmering manes, one after the other.>She then returns to her natural form, confident she's bested you.>"How is that for pretty?">You just stare back at her, wearing a completely passive expression."That's not you, though.">She almost does a double take.
>>36830295>"What?">You return to your task of brushing her hair."Sure, they're okay, but they're not the real you. You could be much more beautiful if you just took care of yourself, don't you think?">She pauses as she reflects on your words, then abruptly shakes her head. "You're not supposed to find me beautiful! My visage should strike terror in your heart, it should make you submit yourself to me completely!""You don't want that. Not really. You just need a little tender love and care, that's all.">She scowls at you. "You dare tell me what I desire?">You don't answer, focused on fixing each tangle as you run your fingers through her long hair.>Several seconds go by as she stands there awkwardly, letting you work on her.>"Do you really think I'm beautiful?" she asks quietly."Of course." >Her face softens, almost as if she's nourished by your words.>She quickly catches herself and regains her haughty composure. "Very well, then. Rather than throw you to my drones, I might like to keep you for myself.">You straighten out the last lock of her hair and step back."There. How's it feel?">She views herself in the mirror and tries to mask her reaction.>"It's... alright, I suppose.""You're looking better already. All it needs is a little trim and you'll be looking cute as ever.">She smiles softly. "You know, my pet, I think I'll enjoy having you around.">She drapes a hoof around your shoulder and leads you to the door, her wings flittering with glee. "Come along, now. We have much to conquer, and I want you by my side the whole way."

We're reached part 100, and have surpassed 50k words on ponepaste.A big thanks to everyone who has been following along and having a share in this adventure!I wonder where we'll be by part 200?Will there even be a part 200?On a side note, I finally got gud™ and completed Commando's challenges, including mastery. Feels good.
>>36833390Bandit mastery is all I have left besides eclipse runs. And hey, update after I get home from the hospital, joy. Bear with my sleepless delirium.First things first I think that lovebug needs a hug and a pat on the back. Then maybe reiterate my previous thoughts: Survivor's guilt is only natural, just reassure him that there's no shame in getting a little help standing up again before he can regain his independence. And for his hive, maybe we can find out together why things are the way they are, and if changelings can peaceably coexist with other species. He needs to help himself before he can help others. (On that note, probably keep a mental note to find out why exactly changelings are so distrusted and at odds with everyone else. Never know if there's a reason the hive is generally considered 'evil')In the short term though, I strongly recommend asking him if he feels ready to get some work done tomorrow. Best way to quit feeling useless is to get active, and I think he'll be a lot happier with some exercise. Not like we need to strain him that badly, we can consider it a training run and make sure he knows what to look for while foraging. As for how quickly we were to befriend a changeling, well, we are kind of the apex predator on our planet, maybe we're just reckless. It helps that everything in Equestria is cute and cuddly, even the things with big honkin' fangs like those.
>>36833068*vomits*>>36833390I think the first reply has everything pretty well covered. In addition, asking Notaulix about the changelings and the other races seems to have come to a dead end, I don't think there's anything more he can tell us, so when we have the chance it might be worth going to Twilight to ask her about the changeling race, under the guise that we came across references to them whilst reading and find the information provided lacking.
>>36833528There is also the fact that humans will befriend anything that vaguely resembles a living creature.
>>36833390cuddle him and say I don't know
I like changeling
>>36836591I'm glad you like my flicky bug
>>36833390The only thing i can think of is that the other races despise them out of fear - after all, a healthy changeling is objectively superior than any other race besides pony demigods like Celestia, Luna and canon Twilight. They can use magic, they can fly, they can shapeshift (which includes turning into majestic griffons), if Nota's anything to go by, they're also very smart and quick learners, and they know offensive magic, like life draining. Then there's the fact that their need of love from other species makes them parasites in the eyes of others. They also have a second-handed fear implanted on them, most of them never seen a changeling do anything bad, hell, most of them probably never seen a changeling at all, but they fear the bugs nonetheless.Tell him that you feel awful for what his kind has to go through, and that life, in general, is unfair. In our world, there's over literal billions of humans who were, are and will be born is shitty places and know nothing besides famine, diseases, violence and fear, all of that undeserved. As for why you treat him well, you could say that besides not having a reason not to do so, that he reminds you of yourself, in a way: living surrounded by creatures way different than you, with a different culture, and a different history.Maybe in the future one of the things you could do with Notaulix is reading books about changelings and see where the books are wrong about them. Both as how they are, and their history. But that's for latter... as of now, you must comfort him and tell him you agree, that it would be wonderful if his race could live with other races in harmony, and that you hold no ill will, neither for him or his kind.
Does anybody know more?
>>36837388>Maybe in the future one of the things you could do with Notaulix is reading books about changelings and see where the books are wrong about them.I recall this being suggested early on but it got a little glossed over.

>>36853399While I'm really curious to see Notaulix transforming and asking him questions (does he need to just observe or he absorbs some sort of magic essence in order to learn how to transform? Once he learns how to transform into a race, can he fully customize his disguise or he'll just be able to mimic someone's appearance?), Anon really needs to get on with the books and learn what the rest of the world thinks about the bugs, and Notaulix's breakdown is a good incentive to do so.On the other hand, talking about his transformations and letting him impress you with his skills will surely help him getting to a good mood before sleeping.

>>36857110Also this. A very relevant part of the reason he's feeling so down is because not only he's living in a infinitely better and more comfortable condition than his Hive brothers and sisters, but that while his Hive brothers and sisters have to work so hard for so little, he isn't having to work at all for all he's getting.Since we have over an hour, you two should have more than enough time to talk about the transformation, ask him to turn into a griffon and how his transformation works, and also talk with him about his upcoming job as his assistant. You could also bring up the ultra-premium-gourmet saddlebag!

You know, when or if the CYOA ever does dip into the romantic plot, would Notaulix be able to tell straight away? I mean he's basically an empath. It's interesting that we're sort of the voices in Anon's head but can't really say how he feels about any given thing.
Would you hug this bug? Y/N
>>36869261Most bugs are extremely huggable.
>>36837388OP here. May we please draw our attention to this Anon's underrated post for a moment? One of the things I've always loved about changelings is the fact that they are mini alicorns for all intents and purposes. This is a subject that I've rarely seen brought up over the years, which puzzles me because it raises all sorts of questions, with the potential for wonderful worldbuilding opportunities to create the answers for.I've always enjoyed the oldschool train of thought that Chrysalis is the alicorn mentioned in the book that the CMC read in S2E17, who ended up corrupted by the effects of the love potion, subsequently giving birth to a new race.I think it's a very compelling idea; one that has been largely forgotten with time.Note that none of this has any relevancy in the setting that I made for the CYOA, so don't get any preconceived ideas from this.Speaking of the worldbuilding, sorry that this is taking so long to progress, >>36864913 Anon.
>>36870244I touched on that stuff briefly with my own writing. The gist is that despite the alicorn-like anatomy I imagine they'd be less proficient/skilled in most areas than a regular pony, largely due to a life built around slipping into different disguises requiring you to be a jack of all trades, but leaving little room to master a craft. CAN fly, use magic, shapeshift, etcetera doesn't necessarily mean WILL, and says nothing to how well they'd do it. Gives them a lot of choice if they have the freedom though.
>>36870244>Speaking of the worldbuilding, sorry that this is taking so long to progressIt's less the wait and more not knowing if it's actually going to be worth it. I'm much more confident knowing that you're still thinking about it, if I have to wait even longer that's fine. I just have a tendency to latch on to plot seeds that never get developed and then I become disappointed even if the story itself was good.

It's not likely he got anything wrong that you'll be able to notice. after all, at least when it comes to the appearance, he could study a "griffon" up close, and you never did that before. You might want to tell him that, by the way - if he wants you to spot any problems in his transformation, it must mean he thinks you know griffons better than him.Maybe you could ask him what they meant with "acting like a griffon"? I mean, he certainly looks, reacts and sounds like a griffon. After that, praise him some more and it's time for the royal saddlebad and work talk I think.
>>36901049If we took a feather, and Notaulix transformed back, would the feather remain? Ask that question.
>>36901049Be gone lewd thoughts begonebegonebegonebegonebegoneLaugh. Give him a surprise hug and tell him he's adorable.
>>36902148Anon tried to pluck out one of his feathers and it didn't come out, as if it was merged with his skin. I'd suppose it's more or less like a humanoid shapeshifter that turns into a clothed human: the clothes are actually part of his body and can't come out because for all purposes, that's his "skin".A changeling transformation would work like that: the fur or feathers are part of the "skin" and can't come out.
>>36902192Why are you lewding a wholesome situation? How are you lewding it?>>36902332Doesn't look like Anon was trying to pluck any feathers. I read it as testing and finding that they were like fresh, healthy feathers. Not old ones that are ready to fall out and be replaced.

Now... resume the evaluation checking his tail, give him a good tummy rub if you can, and just take a quick look at his behind if you must, then tell him what you think of his transformation. After that, tell him you're going to forage the Everfree tomorrow, and ask him if he feels well enough to go with you. Doesn't need to be a full day trip, though, just a quick trip to get the feeling. Wether he agrees or not, tell him you have something for him for when he'll assist you in the forest, and bring out the saddlebag.
Didn't Weaver make a little comic about a changeling girl?
>>36913326Yes but like most of his stuff it died unceremoniously.
>>36913348Did he nuke it or just stopped making the comic?...anyway, what is he doing lately? Last things I remember him getting into were ponies and Fn@F.

We'll still help make it and supervise but it'll help him feel extra productive I think.
>>36915555Three updates in 5 days? I'm going to overdose on bugs!Aw, too bad there weren't tummy rubs. But in the other hand, that could get really awkward. Now, since he'll be helping you as a griffon, you should present the saddlebag to him as a griffon. Maybe discuss his griffon name as well?
Out of curiosity, where do you guys think this CYOA is going? What's the endgame? What sort of challenges might be faced along the way?
>>36917517Kissing the bug.Meeting his parents.Other than that I don't know, probably a lot of pony meddling, which was first hinted at with Celestia.
>>36917517I personally don't know where it's heading to, I'm just enjoying the trip before I fall.I have two guesses: the short-therm end is Anon building a relationship with Notaulix. The more long-therm would be a quest to understand why the bugs are seen as pariahs in the pony world and helping Notaulix, and if possible more bugs, to be seen in a more positive light by the the other species around Anon. What I am looking forward is the small issues Anon and Notaulix will face. Coming up with his new identity (I'm voting for Notaulix to remain a griffon instead of becoming just another pony), introducing him to the Townsville residents, dealing with the eventual suspicious figures (such as the Sun Tyrant herself, and obviously her little apprentice will be keen to spot any inconsisencis on his made-up story), exploring the mythical places such as the abandoned castle where the Tyrant Sisters condicted their nefarious experiments (I'm sure the Everfree Forest is a warped place because of their profanity upon the laws of Nature), and so on.
>>36917517>What's the endgame?Maybe Notaulix integrating with pony society as an open changeling? Also a loving relationship between him and anon.
>>36915574>>36916815>helping as a griffonDid I miss something? I thought the whole point of him wandering around the forest with us is that he wouldn't actually need to be disguised to do it? Just for brief periods coming in and out of town.
>>36917632>ParentsThere's another question. Is Notaulix the offspring of two normal changelings, or is he one of the Queen's own?Following that train of thought, who is Notaulix's Queen? His coloration would imply Chrysalis, but who knows in this setting?>>36917768I'm assuming it would just be to see if it fits properly on his griffon body, so that it could work something like:>Get ready to leave home, transform into griffon>Put saddlebag on>Leave home with Anon and head to the Everfree>Change back into changeling body, readjust saddlebag if necessary>Explore Everfree>Reverse process when coming back homeOr something like that.
>>36917768Isn't there any risk of being spotted in the forest? I mean, Zecora lives there and it's pretty likely some adventurous young ponies would want to explore the place on their own, be it for curiosity or some test of bravery among their peers.
>>36918133I mean there's always risk yeah, but I thought we originally came up with the idea so he wouldn't need to waste energy needlessly. Also he's cuter in true form.>>36917859 makes sense though, guess it's worth making sure the saddlebag fits him both ways to keep his cover.

Quick status report, Anons.((Mormon)) is back at it again, completely shitting the bed with AI Dungeon. At this point, I'm convinced that he's just trying to kill it because it's turned too unprofitable.I'm not going to go into the details, but there's a possibility in the somewhat near future that because my content on that platform involves colorful talking equines and four legged bugs, it may make my account flagged for manual inspection, with the potential of filing for police reports under the guise of "beastiality".I really don't want to mess with that. At this point, I've been basically only using AI Dungeon as a text editor with the rare occasional input. So with that in mind, I've spent most of my writing time today working on figuring out a new workspace to duplicate the look of the image based updates. After some trial and error, I believe I found a good offline solution. Tomorrow I will be migrating my AI Dungeon stuff over, followed by unsubscribing and deleting my account there. It was fun while it lasted when the Dragon model was cheap, but I really don't need it anymore. Especially not after this recent change.Pic related little thingy I made when getting font sizes and spacing sorted out. In the Equestria font. You do have the Equestria font globally installed on your computer, right Anon?
>>36920239Just saw some talk about that shit an hour ago, sorry for the inconvenience (even though AIDungeon hasn't really even been relevant to the CYOA for months)At least you can basically just put white text on a black background and be perfectly fine to continue.
>>36920239I don't know how many of us here actually cares about how consistent it looks. Frankly I'd like it better if you just posted it directly on the thread.
>>36917768Still he would need some cover up personality, because continuing to hide the fact someone lives and works with Anon would be prettyhard and possibly suspicious
>>36920239If Notaulix is good and is not like the other bugs, that means most bugs are evil
>>36920388Sorry for the big delay but I don't have one. 'In Plain Sight' is the name of that other one though. I think some thread might have a CYOA archive directory? I don't know if the CYOA discussion thread died a while ago

So, I encountered an oddity that I want to share with you guys. After getting everything setup the way I wanted it, I brought over all my AI Dungeon stuff by copy and pasting it in.This is fine and all, except I noticed that the line count on what I pasted was different than the line count displayed on ponepaste.Thankfully, I have the ability to compare two text files side-by-side and detect any differences. There were a couple bizarre AI entries that snuck into the old stuff somehow. No idea why this happened, but it did. What is a changeling fruit? What does it taste like, I wonder?
>>36924410Left out the context that I compared what I pasted from AI dungeon with what was on ponepaste, by using the download paste function to get the direct text file.According to the AI, pie is lewd.

>>36928161Yeah, slightly different font. Might actually be an easier read since it's sliiightly bigger.Maybe save the extra straps for tomorrow, don't want to dig too far into sleep time. Just quickly make sure it fits him in both gryphon and changeling form. Do we still have time to read tonight?
>>36928161Let's take the effort to figure out the extra straps after we got Notaulix fitted, how complicated could it be?Considering what _else_ that shop sold, I'm guessing the shop owner made some modifications so that it also doubles as bondage gear. "Sexy night guard BDSM consume", anyone?
>>36928173Thank you! I always appreciate visuals like these.>>36928161As for the saddlebag, I think we should get it on him first and then if there's extra time we see what the straps do.Also, the bag will probably have to be adjusted every time he changes forms. We should consider marking where the straps fit whenever he uses a new form for ease of use. It'll have to be subtle tho so we don't get in trouble.

>>36929969Based huebro. You need to be thinking along the lines of horsey stuff. Saddles, harnesses, tack, etc.Such pieces of equipment commonly have attachment points for other pieces in the form of buckles, D-Rings, square rings, or circular rings. It's surprisingly hard to find a decent close up example of these, but pic related sort of does it.
>>36929969>>36930112Oh, and to clarify the riveted part specifically, these points are often either sewn on, like the pic represents, or riveted on either with leather or a metal plate if something a bit stronger is desired.

I can't remember where off the top of my head, but it's been established that the ponies are afraid of the Everfree. They don't mess with it, outside of the rare foolish young one, or a specific reason like when the M6 went to the old castle to confront NMM.Zecora has her own territory in a section of the forest near Ponyville.
