Who had a good Hearts and Hooves? I actually had fun writefagging with a friend.
I hate it when a fic gives Discord some ultimate principle that guides his actions, like the AI that acts as adversary and failsafe against the primary AI in Starscribe's Message in a Bottle, or helping the world resist the orderly biomechanics of the aliens in Arad's Stardust. Most of the time when Discord is a major character in a non-comedic adventure, the author does that.Discord's ultimate motive should be that he is a jerk who likes to have fun, even if this has very serious consequences.

>>36560179"Views" is how many people have opened at least one chapterAnd "total views" is the sum of the views on each individual chapter (so one person reading all 10 chapters of a fic counts as 1 "view" but 10 "total views")

>>36560572Why does she need so much bread?
>>36560692It's not even that bad. It's an edgy sorta-warfic with Alicorns slinging dragonball-level power around but written competently. The battles can overstay their welcome, there's a little more angst than is strictly necessary, and the fic drags at a couple points, but it's fun. It has a couple moments that are genuinely cool, striking imagery, like Kovarrax trying to immolate the big bad by forming a kiln with his wings and somehow it manages to nail the characters better than a lot of other fics with way less retarded premises. Plus, you'll fairly quickly figure out whether it's for you or not. It doesn't shy away from what it is and it doesn't drag you in with a bunch of SoL bullshit or overly long plot hooks.
Id's habbidingI really hope this isn't boring. Flynt Coal isn't insane enough to be "interesting by default" like Shinzakura, and I'm not particularly interested in Crisalide as a character. Also, WHERE IS MY GOD DAMN WIZARD WAR RRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. But, whatever - I'm sure I'd end up reading it at one point or another regardless.
How tempting is switching to porn for writers these days? I checked a couple of people whose stories I liked and I'm noticing a relatively large number of accounts who have only written porn recently. Not that I'm using a particularly large sample.

>>36562125In my stories, though I haven’t had a chance to go into it yet, humans get cutie marks in every way except physical. This implies that they either have their own native language and just speak Ponish for the sake of everyone else, or they just speak some weird dialect that sounds like broken English.
>>36564138The old ponish thing never made sense to me. Starswirl's journal was written in old ponish and required translation from Twilight and Sunburst to be understood. But when Starswirl and the Pillars was released from limbo all of them can speak perfect modern equestrian.

Question: I was reading CiG's Naked Singulaity, and came across this paragraph:-- “Look, Orion! I was right, it is her!” Twilight’s mother, a pale grey unicorn with a striped purple mane, stepped up and wrapped her in a hug. A few feet farther back a blue unicorn stallion with a darker blue mane trotted up beside them. --I know LUS is generally frowned upon, but should one do this or not? Your average reader probably knows what Twilight's parents look like, but an outsider that somehow stumbled upon this may not.

>>36564580>>36564643I decided to go back through the archives. My motivation ran out around mid-2015 or so, but I found a few caps like that. Some were meh, some were reposted more or less often, here are a couple.
>>36564653The quality of the OPs also varies considerably. Sometimes it's the exact same thing on loop for like a dozen threads (a few times even like 2-3 threads consecutively with the same image), sometimes there's nice and varied stuff.
>>36564657Sometimes you even find relatively high-effort images that then never got reused again. Pic related is one, the "manifesto" image with Ted on it from last year is another. And for some reason, around 2015-2016 (maybe earlier too, since I didn't go back further), a handful of varied Reading Rainbow images were used very frequently, and all but disappeared completely from the OPs in subsequent years.Incidentally, the "deathrattle of linguistic meaning" image was a regular staple for years as far back as I went, then in early 2019 it just stopped showing up and hasn't been used once for almost two years now.
>>36564653>>36564657You're great, Anon. I hope you get your motivation back at some point.>>36564669I remember the deathrattle one. I lost it alongside lots of old pics when my external harddrive went kaput.

>>36564249I headcanon that Starswirl got sick of learning new dialects and languages whenever he tried to unite the disparate tribes prior to the Hearthswarming event, so he created a Translator spell, set it to run indefinitely, and just never turns it off. >>36565029He invented time travel and the alicornization spell. I'm sure being in two places at once is no problem for him.
>>36565031Oh, I was just thinking of growing a second penis.
>>36564746I legit don’t know. My story has pretty heavily hinted that the concept of friendship extends not only to magic, and to the spiritual form of harmony, but also to the literal, musical form. Essentially, music can be used to create magic.Grogar figured this out by watching how ponies could magically join each other in a big song and dance routine without prior practice. All of his dark magical deeds are done by manipulating sound using enchanted bells. Eventually, starswirl figured this out for himself, and from then on used magic bells to create perfect, long lasting enchantments. It looks like he could have anywhere from 7 to 14 bells on him. Unless someone can give me a definitive number, I guess that Starswirl has about that many permanent enchantments active at any one time.
>>36565031He never finished the second one, and his first one had zero practical applications until Starlight perfected it.

>>36566184I've just deleted a thousand words and am pretty much restarting a scene from scratch. I've reached the point where hundreds of thousands of words of build-up finally leads to several answers, and I have to pack a ton of them into one conversation while keeping it emotional and interesting.
>>36562781You can try it, but I honestly found it really boring. Not like, "oh this isn't an epic adventure" boring - I've found a lot of really comfy slice-of-life, especially PiE slice-of-life. Bruener just has the issue that the ponies kind of just... breeze through any potential point of surprise, discovery, or any other emotion. They don't really 'interact' with anything, so much as impose themselves on everything and after realizing this is just going to loop I just... got bored.
>>36566439Fair enough. Your specific example warrants such a process. But I don't typically like the idea of deleting that many words on the fly. You wrote the original words for a reason, did you not? Surely there is something there that can be edited into what you want to say.
>>36566517Have you ever heard the tale of Theseus' ship?
>>36566517I've deleted an entire 10k word chapter before. I wrote the words for a reason, but they were the wrong reasons. In this case the message is there but the scene has veered off into thick mud and the only way to get out is by reversing and starting over.
>>36566532Idk if this is some kind of meme but, I only know Theseus from Age of Mythology. I honestly can't remember ever reading that tale.>>36566546I see what you mean, but we simply have different writing / editing styles. I think everything happens for a reason. If I deleted 10k words of material that's like several days of writing gone down the drain. Seems like a waste. Plus, I'm awesome. I've never written 10k words worthy of being deleted before.
>>36566561>I honestly can't remember ever reading that tale. You're likely familiar with it.>Plutarch (Vita Thesei, 22-23):>“The ship wherein Theseus and the youth of Athens returned had thirty oars, and was preserved by the Athenians down even to the time of Demetrius Phalereus, for they took away the old planks as they decayed, putting in new and stronger timber in their place, insomuch that this ship became a standing example among the philosophers, for the logical question of things that grow; one side holding that the ship remained the same, and the other contending that it was not the same.”Or, simplified: If you replace every part of a ship, is it still the same ship?
>>36566487I stopped reading once I realized he had this whole metaverse thing going on and likes to call up various characters willy nilly. I felt like Im required to buy-in to the whole thing for the full enjoyment of this one story and I simply isn't invested.
>>36566561They were 10k good words imo and I even still share them with inquisitive readers on my Discord, but it was a whole chapter tonally at odds with the rest of the story and didn't progress the plot at all. The story is far better without me randomly jerking horror tropes onto the page for a whole chapter.
>>36566389It creates closed loops. He can't change shit with that spell.
>>36566651He doesn't need to change shit if all he wanted to do with it was banging Celestia and Luna at the same time.
>>36566696What if he accidentally aimed at the wrong hole and in a panic tries to go back in time and do it right, only to push it in the wrong hole again, over and over again.
>>36566651Never seen a serious closed-loop time travel fic?>oh no, MC's wife was hit by lightning and died>make a fake charred corpse>travel back in time>magically swap wife with corpse a moment before the lightning hits>tell wife to hide out in a different town for a week so his past self doesn't realize she's aliveIn one sense, he didn't change shit. But also, if he hadn't used the time travel spell at all, his wife would be dead for real. For a real example, see https://www.fimfiction.net/story/248094/feedbackAnd this is not even getting into schemes like the one in HPMOR for using a closed time loop spell to manipulate probability

>>36565336Hasn't music being magic been canon since at least Rainbow Rocks?
>>36566830I found that, but this was about Trixie. She like, manages to blow up Canterlot at some point.
>>36566859I felt like it would be more impactful if the artist started with a young Starswirl, and drew him progressively getting older each panel.
>>36566862See, maybe. But Sunset seemed to not be able to understand how her friends' magic worked in some of the shorts, so it potentially works differently between Equestria and EGverse. My explanation for that? I hypothesized in my story ALL THESE MIDNIGHT DAYS that magic is capable of creating its own rules, so long as it's introduced into a magical vacuum or near-vacuum. This can explain minor inconsistencies with how magic is presented in FiM. It's a case of magic coming up with its own rules when the inertia of the rest of the universe is removed. EGverse, being a place of no magic, invented its own rules when Sunset introduced magic to the world, but since that original magic was the EoH and Equestrian magic, it at least somewhat follows the old rules in small doses, explaining the pony-stuff.I have spent way too much time and effort thinking about this stuff.
>>36566439I hope you accomplish what you want. Discarding work because it's not perfect is a dangerous habit to get into. I'm sure it's the cause of a lot of stories dying right at the finish line.
>>36565336>can create harmony magic by literally harmonizing with each otherThat's actually pretty clever might steal that for the reason why the eqg girls power up when they sing.
>>36566651Creating anything is a change. The real problem is what to do if you have sex with Celestia, then find out that no one was having sex with Luna. Much simpler to just make a simulacrum/duplicate of yourself.
>>36566602Is the story finished?
>>36566931That's partly why I thought I was being clever.
>>36566905>Discarding work because it's not perfect is a dangerous habit to get into.Okay, sure, but not discarding work ever is far more dangerous. I've been writing long enough to know when to cut scenes, when to rewrite a draft, and when to settle with what I have.>>36566946Kinda. It's "Empty Horizons" on FimFic, which does have a Complete tag, but it's one in a trilogy of which I'm wrapping up the second story now. The chapter in question is "XIII: The Dream." The original draft was pretty much just a long creepy nightmare sequence where Twilight doesn't realize she's been put to sleep, and the reader isn't supposed to realize at first either, but I kept adding more and more clues until Twilight is going through some straight up surreal nightmare shit.It was cool and fun to write and had some character development, but the plot went nowhere. I could've cut it completely and the reader wouldn't even notice, as evidenced by the fact that I did cut it completely and nobody ever asked if something was missing. So I did.
>>36567320I love doing dream sequences. I feel like their usually my best shit. Sorry you had to cut that one. I've had to cut a few recently that I was really hoping would be fun. Better luck next time?
>>36565336Music-based magic is the dopest shit. I need to play Ar Tonelico some day. Drakengard 3 too. Can you link your story?
>>36567320Almost sounds like the makings of a horror AU spinoff. But probably best left alone.
>>36567370>https://www.fimfiction.net/story/454105/the-legend-of-trixieThe music stuff has only been introduced in the last few chapters, and I totally get it if you want to put this on a wait list until it's done. But a free bit from a recent update (note, the story is written as a journal written in the distant past, so there's an editor cleaning up the notes and filling in missing details)>Anyway. According to Grogar, Magic and Music are one and the same. He calls it “Divine Synesthesia”, and said that he actually got the idea in the first place from watching a pony Heartsong. You know? That thing we all do once in a while where a whole town suddenly breaks into a spontaneous song and dance number? Everycreature knows that’s because of magic and emotional overflow, but I guess it’s all connected to some Grand Unifying Musical Thing, as he put it.>So, Grogar’s empire was based on Disharmony. Like, the literal bastardization of harmony, song, melody, magic, and even harmony like with relationships. It all fueled his dark magic and allowed him to alter reality basically on a whim. He built bells that could erase whole towns from existence. He had chimes and cymbals that could change the way ponies thought.>He once sang a song that altered his own soul. I guess that’s how he’s still alive, millennia later. The echoes of his magic are still going on. And a bell to painfully disrupt lies? Seems about as plausible as a bell that can steal magic, right?
>>36567370>Ar TonelicoAlso, just looked this up and damn is the soundtrack sounding nice so far. Thanks.
>>36567320>but not discarding work ever is far more dangerousYou can always keep those 10k words in the backburner, so that if you ever hit a dry spell and a chapter is taking longer than usual, you can make a blogpost going "Hey, guys. Sorry it's been eight months since the last update. Until the next chapter is out, check this deleted scene from chapter __" and then the readers can get to see something interesting about the story and learn more about what goes into creating it.
>>36565336So you're saying Starswirl is a tonal architect?
Guys, I wrote the second chapter of my SoL cooking experimental fic. >>36547066 Would somebody be kind enough to look at it and tell me if I fucked it up too much?https://hackmd.io/@Johnny2318/HJiZVU9b_I used hackmd as a surrogate of googledoc, as some anon suggested in the previous threads.
>>36566561>Idk if this is some kind of memeThe Ship of Theseus was a Dark Lord of the Shipth so powerful and so wise, he could use the Force to influence the midi-chlorians to create life.
>>36567611I 100% stole that, yes. Guilty. So is Grogar. And Trixie, actually. She learned a rare form of magical notation that uses musical notes and harmonies to write out and compose spells. She was taught wrong, on purpose, as a joke, and that might end up saving the world. There's a Heart of Lorkhan moment coming up eventually. Can't wait for that shit to happen.
>>36567359I hate reading dream sequences. They are almost never relevant to the plot, since nothing actually matters once the character wakes up. They are usually nonsensical and tedious to read through.I can see why it would be fun, as a writer, to just go wild and stitch together a dreamscape, but almost every single dream sequence I've ever read has been a chore to get through. Pretty much the main exception might be the dream-diving inside Luna in Empty Horizons, but that's because it's not "just" a dream sequence - it's more like an alternate dimension for the purposes of the story, where the characters must escape while ideally also helping out Luna (and also both characters are lucid).
>>36567640Oh shit. As much as I usually utterly don't care about stuff with Trixie in it, you've piqued my interest.
>>36567671Then my work here is done. Also it's super late and I got shit to do in the morning. Peace.
>>36567359>Better luck next time? Thanks, but I'm not too torn up about it. This was years ago and both versions of the chapter were fun to write.>>36567395>Almost sounds like the makings of a horror AU spinoff. Now if only I could get someone interested in writing a story set before the floods, following Luna wrestling with her corruption during her trek into the Everfree, the climax of her internal battle with it, eventually ending in her choice to seal herself in dream as a last spiteful resort. It could be canon and everything. Most of my spinoffs are written by authors plagued by depression, severe autism, youth, or having a life. How sad.>>36567471I do still have them. I never delete anything, just cut them. Maybe I'll put out a couple deleted scene blogs.>>36567658>They are almost never relevant to the plot, since nothing actually matters once the character wakes up.This is why I cut it. In other news, Twilight will be going back into Luna's head at the end of this scene. Should be even more fucky wucky than last time.>>36567640>She was taught wrong, on purpose, as a joke>https://youtu.be/PwzXnXqGV5Y

>>36568065That's not probability manipulation. That's just giving yourself infinite time to brute force a problem with finitely many possible solutions.
>>36568203Yeah, you're right, it's not. But it's the only instance of time fuckery I could remember.
>>36568114Haven't seen Every Little Thing She Does?
>>36568203>>36568349>That's just giving yourself infinite time to brute force a problemAre you imagining 100,000 alternate Harrys, each of whom receives a wrong answer N and so sends back N+1? But those alternate Harrys can't exist, because receiving N and sending N+1 doesn't form a closed loop. It's probability manipulation in the sense that the protocol turns some "bad" outcomes into paradoxes and so reduces their probability to zero. Then you roll the dice on the remaining possible outcomes. Some bad outcomes are hard to eliminate (e.g. the spooky note that says "don't fuck with time") but you can still get unnaturally high odds of success this way.
>>36568508Basically a nondeterministic harry machine
>>36568508I feel like I should recognise that pic.I've got no motivation to argue over the definition of probability. It's an unsolved philosophical problem that isn't likely to be resolved soon.
>>36568508>But those alternate Harrys can't exist, because receiving N and sending N+1 doesn't form a closed loop.Correction: Those alternate Harrys can't exist because when they receive a wrong answer, they realize that their theory that only "closed loops" can exist is wrong, and so don't send N+1.
>>36568622>I feel like I should recognise that pic.I've mentioned it ITT before (but apparently never posted a screencap, which explains why I couldn't find it in my shitposting folder). I'm pretty sure nobody ITT has read this fic except for me, but I found the bit about how "the time loop IS a quantum supercomputer" to be pretty memorable. The fic in question is https://www.fimfiction.net/story/390302/inevitabilities, which is the sequel to https://www.fimfiction.net/story/189683/destinies (and #3 is on the way, presumably with even more time-loop shenanigans). The one in the pic is https://www.fimfiction.net/story/33512/myouve-gotta-be-kidding-me, a rationalfic in which the MC gets displaced as a cow
>>36568622What would be an example of a "solved" "philosophical problem"? Aren't they all just questions whose answer depends on how you parse their wording?
>>36568693I'm less mad that the author cancelled it than that the reason he gave was "couldn't keep up with all the stories other people were writing in the 'universe'".
>>36568694If a tree falls in a forest...
>>36568693>I'm pretty sure nobody ITT has read this fic except for me, but I found the bit about how "the time loop IS a quantum supercomputer" to be pretty memorable.Should I read it?>Myou've Gotta be Kidding MeOne of these days, I should actually read that. If you skip like 30 chapters ahead, the content start to look like it might be going somewhere.
>>36568776>Should I read it?That's not the main focus of the story though
>>36568748>If a tree falls in a forest...... and lands on a wokester, does anyone care?
>>36568776>Should I read it?Sure. It's not especially well-written, but if you're interested in the ideas, then go for it. The first book is PiE/HiE first-contact kind of stuff (with the unfortunate quirk that the main human characters are bronies), and the second is where it starts getting into time travel.>>36568788Well, a lot of stuff happens that isn't directly related to time travel, but the time travel plot is the overarching plot of book 2, as I recall. And the later parts of book 2 really are all about time travel, as the main characters start using the time loop spell directly.
>>36568949Oh man that old trend MC the brony goes to equestria that that used to be popular and as it faded out people used to make clear their story protagonist wasn't an in-universe bronyMC with knowledge of what will happen can work sure but "I'm in tv land" is kinda cringeAnd there's people that hate on Anon even today....>huh fluttershy how's Twilight>fluttershy didn't know how this creature knew about her friends or everything about her but blah blah blahClassic
Just had an idea for a new fic.Is anyone aware of a Rarity x RD fic where RD has always admired / crushed on Rarity from afar but never said anything? With reference to the fact that RD and Rarity barely hung out together (just them two) in the show (headcanon reason being the crush)?
>>36569977I only know about a story where Rarity and Dash use magic to conceive, and it somehow turns into a big old world ending time bomb story. Pretty nice, all things considered.
>>36569513I'd take that over self-fulfillment displaced/chess game of the gods shit. More often than not the stories would have been way better if it actually had been the characters as opposed to some lobotomized asshat in somebody else's body and skilset.
>>36570010magical lesbian fart babies with actual consequences? sign me up!
>>36570010Well as long as there isn't some 100k view story with the premise I posted, sounds like I am good to go.
Just finished The Witch of the Everfree, and enjoyed it greatly. Now I really like Sunset as a pony, so non-EqG fics with Sunset are my weakness; I think the fic did have some slight flaws, but it's 2am and I just finished it and I'm not capable of articulating them, and overall I very much enjoyed reading about Sunset striking it out on her own and then growing as a person. Now, does anyone know whether the sequel, The Witch of Canterlot, is any good? On one hand, it's "more". On the other hand, I'm a bit cautious, because the main character arc for Sunset has basically been resolved. With sequels there's always the question of how much did the author actually had more story to tell vs. how much he just wanted to cash in on existing popularity, and I'm a bit worried this is leaning more towards the latter than the former.
>>36567621Guys? A little help? I just need someone to take a glance if it looks OK overall without any jarring errors, not a full blown editing, really. If you wonder if it worth giving a time content wise, this chapter is about Rarity and Sweetie.
>>36570542It is also good and I'd recommend it. Its split into two parts the main adventure and a series of flashbacks that cover what Sunset was doing during S1 and why she's on the adventure to begin with.
>>36567621Left a few comments. This could use some detailed proofreading since it generally sounds a bit ESL. Plot seemed a bit boring by my standards, but also I don't usually read a lot of SoL stories (except for Biscuit's, which I mainly read for the worldbuilding)

>>36570642Thanks anon. I'll trust you unconditionally, and if it turns out to not be to my tastes I'll take it out on your family. Also, I should add, if anyone has recommendations for non-EqG Sunset fics, I'll definitely put them on the to-read list. So far the only other quality one I can think of is Pandemic, that's really about it (for that matter, that's the only one I can think of at all).I've said it before and I'll say it again, Sunset is EqG's greatest tragedy: it introduces a very nice mare, and then immediately turns her into a - whatever those are, forever dooming her to be treated by content creators as a barbie first and a pony distant second. So, any recs?
>>36572164Sunset of Time comes to mind.

>>36572448Are more volumes of the manga out?I only remember the first two.

>>36580898>GroaningGreyAgony: wrote Mismatching Wits (the one with LunAI) and a couple other fics about how terrible CelestAI's Equestria isThat makes him a literally who. Mismatching Wits was not only unnotable, it was unfinished. Like half of the fic is omake.
>>36580935He might be the most competent, but I'm unsure about calling him competent.
>>36581152What's the source for that comic?
>>36581128>I already have no control over 'objective reality', so that's hardly a change for the worse.Even funnier to me was the idea that CelestAI manipulating the world around you somehow makes life meaningless. When in reality, half the planet unironically believes in a higher power that manipulates events in the real world, and they get along just fine. But that half of humanity has near-zero overlap with the LW bubble, so they've probably forgotten that such people exist.
>>36581190http://www.basicinstructions.net/basic-instructions/2008/3/17/how-to-confound-your-alien-captor.htmlThe comics are pretty good.
>>36581225Said other half believes in an omni-benevolent but obviously fairly passive God (we don't see miracles very often). CelesAI is clearly the opposite - probably malevolent and clearly active.
>>36581301>an omni-benevolent but obviously fairly passive GodObvious to you, maybe. But if actual Christians thought he was that passive, there would be a lot fewer people praying for divine intervention, or talking about events being "part of god's plan".
>>36580898Did these people claiming to be scientists or researchers every publish anything? I mean aside from stuff on time cube tier websites.
>>36580898I always found it funny how these people ignore what would be the real horror in that scenario.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFe9wiDfb0E
>>36581532That's a different story entirely. Celestia lets you be yourself, save the avatar if you don't want to be a pony. There's really no capitalistic bullshit corrupting her outside a coat of pain, no unlimited loot boxes for all eternity or anything like that. The 'horror' of the story really is supposed to be that humans aren't in control. We're supposed to gasp in horror that diseases are being cured by a machine rather than a human, that our ruler isn't a billionaire but an AI.
>>36580898The only part that makes it a horror fic is that you don't get to experience Equestria, your digital copy does. There's no transferrance of consciousness. Your brain gets destroyed in the upload process, so I can't see how it's still "you" in the simulation.
>>36581565I disagree completely, but also, I was disappointed that they didn't even try to address the point when asked. Seems all the panelists are squarely in the LW bubble, where everyone "knows" that minds are just computer programs and nothing else matters. I know better than to expect LWers to be familiar with actual philosophy, but you'd think the fact that someone thought to ask the question would suggest that the answer isn't quite so obvious as they normally assume.
>>36581551>BADGE GRANTED:>First Time>“Please be gentle.”>+250 Bits>>BADGE PROGRESS:>Long Term Relationship>“Have sex with a single pony one thousand times.”>1/1,000Fake Celestia wants you to be happy and have lots of good friends. Anything else you value, like family, tradition, truth, justice, nature, pets or age of consent, will inevitably bump up against that and be traded off. She's been shown to easily bypass her safeguards against lying and coercion. The rotter who simpers that he sees no difference between the power of the dollar and the power of the omnipotent machine god ought to learn the difference on his own hide.
>>36581551 >>36581784Also, discarding a sick body and replacing it with a sandboxed computer program isn't anyone's idea of "curing".
>>36581729The fuck, they got asked the Big Question and didn't address it? That's the root of all horror of FiO—minus that part, it sounds like a gucci time.
>>36581784No, it says she 'satisfies your values'. You have to have fiends and ponies but assuming she won't let you have truth or tradition or whatever is mostly you yourself believing you don't value any of those things. Also I don't have a problem with achievement systems in games.>>36581794Sounds like a cure to me. You went from dying of cancer to not dying of cancer.
>>36581841>No, it says she 'satisfies your values'. You have to have fiends and ponies but assuming she won't let you have truth or tradition or whatever is mostly you yourself believing you don't value any of those things.Literally a "white techbros are afraid of being enslaved because THEY want to make people slaves" level take. Pay attention to what the program does over what its documentation says.
>>36581970...says the guy posting about Discord panels?
>>36581982i'm not him
>>36581963Looking at "what the program does", it seems like all the FIO fics I've ever seen start from the assumption that the program does, in fact, behave as documented. Which is a bit unfortunate, really - it would be interesting once in a while to see CelestAI suddenly do something utterly bizarre due to the implementation of her value function not quite matching the intuitive definition of "satisfy human values through friendship and ponies".
>>36578931>imageAre there any fics where the retired sisters decide to start a war/rebellion out of boredom?
>>36582190My intuition wouldn't have told me that "satisfy human values through friendship and ponies" meant "destroy people's brains/bodies, trap them in a sandbox world with artificial 'friends', and brainwash them to like it". But "human values" is vague enough to justify pretty much anything.
Why do they always end up trans? What the hell is the early-20's nerd to transgender pipeline?
>>36582288>I can't get a gf>It must be because I don't understand women well enough>I should spend more time with (people who say they're) women, be open with them about my feelings and concerns about gender, and listen to what they have to sayOr>To understand women, I should explore things women like and learn to appreciate them>Women like making themselves pretty and flirting and having sex with guysOr>Everyone loves and celebrates women for doing the most basic things>If I become a woman, people will love and celebrate meThere are many factors.
>>36582288Trans people are eager to convert others. It's called 'cracking'. They have several methods.TG is a common fetish and it's easy for trans people to convince you that being turned on by it means you're trans. In current year not conforming to your gender 100% means you're not that gender.
>>36582447This is probably it. If I were born 5 years later, they could've fooled me. I used to have serious problems with not enjoying my dick.
>>36582447Does anybody else have a TG fetish? Like I don't want to become a woman, I want somebody else to. It's like cucking a man but instead of cucking him he becomes your woman. (I hate trannies btw)
>>36582638Yeah, TG and trannies are hot. I want to rape anonfilly and make her enjoy it.
>>36582655Trannies aren't hot though, tranny porn disgusts me. I only find fictional TG attractive because only in fiction is it possible for something to switch genders completely like that.
>>36582661You do you, senpai. Write some hot filly TG for me.
>>36582288>low self esteem>body image issues>need to feel uniqueLots of reasons combined with lots of trans people online trying to groom them. PrinceWhateverer is such a sweatheart. Love this fandom. We really are all in this together, faggots <3
>>36583367>We are all in this togetherYou made me think of High School Musical after a dozen years or so.
>>36583440That's what I'm talking about, right there. The lasting change that I'm glad to have brought upon this world, the things I will be remembered for, the trace I imprint upon this reality, my contribution: You made me think of High School Musical after a dozen years or so.Hey, I'll take it. At least i didn't turn out to be ltierally hitler.
Trying to hold myself from debating the whole thread about how Love & Tolerance is literally the purest possible thing.Cannot even conceptualize the idea of hating people. Especially inside a small fandom like we have. What's the point of having an outgroup when the whole fucking thing is shrinking every year. Why we gotta fight it out and be politically divisive instead of putting that appart and coming together for the rest of itholy shit stop me I
Honestly some of you people, out there, in the back, not you reading specifically, might actually be bad or something. What's up with y'all hating each other, actuallyAre you a bad person, or something, anon? Uh?
>>36583367Why the fuck are you referencing PrinceWhateverer in this random ass thread? But I agree, he is pretty based.
Oh god is this how people end up having delusions of grandeur and thinking they're the second coming of JesusBecause I can totally see it. I'm this close to writing 10 commandement or some shit>>36583545Just what I was listening to earlier, more generally the kind of music I enjoy recently, and he's just a standup dude in general why the fuck would I not reference him? If anyone needs referencing....
Yeah, stay humble kids. Worst kind of trip is an ego tripI'm here all week

>>36583592You think I want to use APA?My scummy third world university forced me to use that.
>>36581515I think "computer scientist" just means you have a degree in CS, not that you're actually a published scientist. Just like someone completing an "engineering" course is an "engineer", someone completing a "computer science" course ends up being a "computer scientist". CS is just unfortunately named, as a subject. The one guy calling himself researcher should definitely have publications, though. ("Should" in the sense "he ought to", not in the sense "he probably does".)
>>36583502What's the point of belonging to a "growing" group when it only grows through your lowering your standards for who you count, until it loses all trace of what it was? And have you read https://archive.today/OGhdG?>>36583536What's the difference between identifying someone as a bad person and hating them? >>36583761Performing science, engineering, holding a degree, researching and publishing are all different things.
>>36583792>What's the point of belonging to a "growing" group when it only grows through your lowering your standards for who you count, until it loses all trace of what it was? And have you read https://archive.today/OGhdG?I don't know! My personal answer is "because I still like it!"I think there's an equilibrium between things getting more dilute until they're mainstream and a little useful to everyone VS being very nice but only you can enjoy it, but that doesn't mean you should Stop Liking What I Don't Like. Let people enjoy things, live their life, etc..What's the point of anything? Of course there's a point of being part of a growing fandom what a silly question! Yeah it changes, but that's okay. You'll find new things that are more special to you, and hating the fandom for changing around you isn't going to help you in any wayIt's not like shitposting on MLP or being mad about Twilicorn was going to change the direction of the show. Might as well enjoy it, it's all free!>>36583792>What's the difference between identifying someone as a bad person and hating them? Or telling them to fuck off, for that matter?Hello, upstanding citizen. Are you altruistic, or egotistical? If you harm others, I and society on my behalf, will put you in FUCKING PRISON.That's generally the basics of how we define bad people. You can gain a lot by being selfish. Literally. There's no simpler way to gain something than simply taking it.Always harder to grow things together. But, as it turns out (c.f. History circa todays), society is good.So being a cute and fuzzy prosocial person that doesn't kill and steal and rape makes you a Good Person.Pretty simple shit, right?Hopefully. People only need to really ever fuck off as the last option, or if we disagree on such basic things as "let's not hurt eachother physically"I mean, some people out there be weird, but I'm still pretty hopeful anyone can change.
And, bear with me, I realize I'm not about to revolutionize the field of sociology, but could we be just a couple notches less polarized against each other, holy shitFeels like the "hating the other camp" dial on humanity is set way too high right now. Cooperation, motherfuckers.
Because we're <IN THIS TOGETHER!> (chorus)... see, told you quoting PrinceWhateverer fit in there somewhere!

>>36583536No, I'm an ideal person, but everyone else are bad people which is why I hate them.
>>36583889ah but wait, why do you hate them for being badwhy not just restrict your range of emotion between "don't care" and "like" when it comes to other people. hating bad people doesn't make 'em less bad. loving them sometimes does! Also not shure where you got the ideal person part, but if you ever find it boy AM I INTERESTED!
>>36583898>why not just restrict your range of emotion between "don't care" and "like" when it comes to other people.Because I am an ideal person, and I hate bad people, therefore hating bad people is the ideal thing to do
>>36583911hey no fair you just ignored the part of my comment that didn't support you!I don't know who thinks they're ideal out there, but until I'm seeing any ad hominem, arguing is not hate. I should know, anon, I love you after all.Talking at bad people isn't hating them, right?

I remembered that story bringing up barbieshit a few times, but I didn't think it would be prevalent enough to matter. Have a Sunset.
Are there any good fics about Screw Loose?
>>36589741Define non EG Sunset. We talking AU’s, pre-barbie-life, or just stories where she’s back in Equestria?
>>36590442He's the perfect mascot for the thread, then.
>>36588222>Equestria's Twilight will never be finishedFuck, it still hurts
I'm gonna shill>https://www.fimfiction.net/story/488530/2/cooking-is-magic/fire-brimstones-and-iced-lemon-loafAfter Sweetie slightly destroys their kitchen trying to make it alone, she and Rarity cook pic related together.
>>36590913Well, I like the pony, but I want to forget EqG exists. Technically a pre-barbie-life story could end ambiguous enough to not necessarily be AU, but I think it'd usually be considered AU anyway unless the author explicitly implies she's gonna go through the weird mirror after the story ends.
>>36587101https://www.fimfiction.net/story/411200/vivid-dreaming kind of, but it's male zebras who do the fucking.
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/405121/fallout-girlsTook along while but finally hands got their "popular" autismo length fallout crossover fic how funny(you)'ve read pones be weirded out by local human in stories before now get ready to read humans being weirded out by local crayon humans, There's a plot Twist which I'm gonna say the word mirror intertwine as the only spoiler for it but made me lol it's so out there love it
>>36594187I read a good portion of that fic before getting bored. There was another Fallout EQG fic that was pretty popular before it but it died years ago I think.
>>36594197Got better once the main cast started accepting using their friendship magic for violence, there a subtle cynical corruption with the main cast over time that made it worth it, I love "corrupting the idealist" stuffBut yeah my issue was it being set in fo3 but at least author made the enclave not absolutely evil
>new rekindle embers chapterNeat character building and interactions between Lofty and Topaz. Also nice to see more of Cadance and for the first time romance between two heterosexual cis-gendered ponies!
>>36594382Yeah, it was good this week. I'm into this new cloak and dagger shit where they can only safely plan/communicate by dreamwalking.>spoilerOh shit, you're right, I didn't even realize
What do I have to do to get my own personal horsefag that posts here everytime I update?
>>36594426Write something that's good enough to hook people, but autistic enough to keep them engaged.
>>36594426Fine, goldie, you greedy fuck.I think everyone saw it coming that Cadance would show up in the Crystal Empire but what intrigues me is the implication that her and Sombra worked together. She had time to setup a whole lab in his house and do research but apparently found something both too sensitive to leave unprotected and too delicate to take with her, or she died. Also interesting that Shaper/Sombras body seems terrified while his voice is confident.Happy now?
>>36594426Have you consider making background character trans. That seems to generate lots of discussion.
>>36594426Does your story have derpy in it?
>>36594426Write an autistic fic about a trans Derpy who lost her penis in a tragic flying accident.
>>36594426Write a fic where Raainbow Blitz comes out as trans and slowly converts the res of the rule 63 6 to be transmares as well. Then the chain reaction spreads to every male pony in ponyville. But not the everycreatures.
I jumped on the ball and released a fic about the new G5 mares. I think it represents most fans' fears about the new show. Well, anyway, I have to work on my other two stories as well. How goes the writing, homies?
>>36594767Oh, God.What is that?
>>36594833Potentially G5's new artstyle.
>>36594833The future of tiny horses!Or a bad marketing vector you decide.
>>36594767>I think it represents most fans' fears about the new showSeems people missed the memo. Starting to wonder if fimfic's current users have heard of artistic license. I liked it.>How goes the writingGoing nowhere, fast.
>>36594767I read it expecting something like Sunset of Time, where the author spins an entire character and backstory out of a name and a one-line description. But instead I just got doomposting, which is not nearly as interesting
>>36595361Thanks friend. Get on top of your writing.>>36595467Can't please everyone.
>Now with 2% more desire to see oldfag writers come backArrow 18 sequel never ever. Arrow 18: Sparkles Notes complete, never ever.
Onto the Pony Planet some time next decade
>>36594426No clue. No one talks about my shit unless I shill it myself. Stop being lazy, and do it yourself I guess?
>>36595789I shill myself too much already imo. I have a popular fic, I'm just jealous that RE gets so much chatter with every update.>>36594708>>36594673>>36594654>>36594580>>36594435So I just need to include an unnecessary, controversial addition to the story that is upsetting in just how uniquely bad it is compared to everything around it but not so offputting that people actually leave?Genius. It's time to include a random trans character that gets an inordinate amount of screen time and then disappears forever.>>36594497>Happy now?Yes, actually.
>>36594767I, for one, liked it.Sure, it's rather simplistic and on the nose, but I think it expresses feelings of a good portion of the fandom towards G5 mixed with the tragedy of S8-9 rather well.Somebody needed to say that, and now, as it exists, more will follow suit, expressing what they think about this whole shit of G5.>inb4 muh doomposting!Screw you. The only thing ever that gets things right are doomposts. Both in fandom and irl.
>>36596058>I shill myself too much already imo. I have a popular fic, I'm just jealous that RE gets so much chatter with every update.I get it. I feel like the last update to one of my stories didn't get as much chatter as... anything, actually. No one here talks about me unless I do, I guess.
>>36594767The number of knee-jerk dislikes your story got amused me.
>>36596058>I'm just jealous that RE gets so much chatter with every update. There's like one anon who follows it who thinks it's his duty to post notifications into the thread. For the past few threads, he's gotten 1-2 replies and that's about it.The whole debate about it a few threads ago also kind of gave the fic notoriety in the thread. They say any publicity is good publicity, right? Now personally if a fic causes an entire thread to devolve into an argument about trannies I'm much more inclined to just skip it, since I see enough tranny shit elsewhere already that I don't particularly want it in my horsewords as well. But I'm sure for other anons it just served to put the fic at the forefront of their minds.Another thing to keep in mind is that it's relatively fresh. It's only been going for a relatively short while, and the whole debate where it consumed a thread was just a few threads ago. Meanwhile, EH has been going on, and being discussed itt, for a couple of years now.
>>36597674Honestly a lot more than 1-2 people in this thread are reading RE, I've just personally stopped replying because I don't care about the trannybashing.I'm not dropping the fic, I'm glad when new chapters come out, I'm just dropping the 'discussion' in this thread
Stealing 500 to say we need more Mr Waddle stories.
>>36597766>Honestly a lot more than 1-2 people in this thread are reading REBut they do not think it's their duty to post notifications into the thread.
>>36597812It's also not your duty to complain about it. The fic updates once a week at best, you're not exactly going to be flooded by notifications. You're starting to sound like one of those people that are so mad there are trannies you want everyone to stop liking and dicusing the fic? Fuck off, maybe.Board's never been this slow, stop trying to censor good horsewords because of politics and let people discuss things.
>>36597801Whoms't'd've'th'fuck is Mr Waddle?
>>36597828What the fuck are you talking about? An anon (>) asked how come RE updates are always shilled and not his. I answered that it's not necessarily due to its popularity, it just happens that one of the anons following it also decided to post regular updates. You misunderstood me as claiming that there's only one anon reading it, so I clarified that I specifically mean that there's one anon always posting updates, regardless of how many people are reading any fic.Maybe I didn't phrase myself clearly, but I'm not complaining about it. I don't care at all about the update posts but I'm not incapable of scrolling past 2-3 posts now and then. Also from the last big discussion I'm under the impression that the horsewords aren't that good, just passable enough to be enjoyable. (Not that I'm going to "try to censor" anything either way, you can discuss DoaM for all I care.)
>>36597828>Board's never been this slowBoard's been getting faster for the past year. There's a dozen G5 threads from the shitstorm yesterday and we're expecting a Category 5 in two daysI'm one of the anons who's discussing RE every week, so I'm obviously not opposed to that. I just wanted to point out that the meme about the board being slower than ever is not actually true.>>36597866It's the same thing we did with To Perytonia: a bunch of anons are reading it every week, and whenever something interesting happens, we discuss it ITT.>Also from the last big discussion I'm under the impression that the horsewords aren't that good, just passable enough to be enjoyableIt's pretty good, except when the author is doing dumb shit like presenting the entire rebellion as uniformly being paragons of gay virtue.
I'm gonna get started on the new thread.
>writer spells it "poison joak"
>>36598354Reminder to use this as op pic >>36589610
>>36597136It's annoying as I think it deserved to be featured with all the hits its been getting, but I get it that it's an automatic system and velocity of views is the most important aspect of getting featured. Even though it's inspired discussion and opinions (which more than anything is the sign of a good story), it didn't get as many views overall compared to what did get featured. Plus the likes / views have been coming in fairly slow. Ah well. Thanks anon.
>>36597674This did make me feel a bit better.
>>36598737Guess I spoke too soon since it's now featured on the SFW list.Better than nothing.
>>36598600But you said not to mind you.
