The clusterfuck fuckhueg torrent: https://u.smutty.horse/lzhhiiqvwnt.torrent

Because more people should be mirroring this stuff.

I am not the original OP, nor am I affiliated with the torrent, El Cloppero, or anyone else. I just think that more copies of this should be around. I also think that I might want more updates from the TorrentAnon. More peers now means more seeds later means a more stable swarm means more data preserved means more likelihood of a continuation of the site's niche in some form.

Data preservation is inherently worthwhile.

For the swarm!
>>
Update: I only see a few people in the swarm right now. There's the Single seed, two people at 69.9% nice including me, one person at 47%, and one new person starting from zero.
>>

fair enough
as for me, i'll be seeding this non stop at least till April but i'd be nice to get that extra friendship speed. it's been like 2 weeks by now and the swarm is still missing 1/4th so if everyone runs away and someone new shows up, it'll take those ~20 days to upload

You've got a few days to go yet.

Now that I think of it, I think this is the first time I've seen different completion rates for everyone. I'm only connected to 5 out of 9 peers so far, and I briefly see a Ukrainian flag now and then. That means one very good thing: The swarm grows!

Also, Germanfag, I'm curious, why are you not using qBittorrent? From what I recall, uTorrent stopped being a good program a number of years ago.

So, daily summary from me: I'm connected to one seed, and 5 out of 7 peers.
I see three people, including me, who are at 74.3%. Other than the seed, most people are at lower.
I've downloaded 15.82 Gigs today, and uploaded 33.32 Gigs.
If things stay on track, I think I might be able to be done by Sunday. Then I'll start exploring what I've got. All the futa, gay, and frankly, a lot of the normal stuff is not going to be up my alley, but archival isn't about making a limited collection of only the best hits..

Daily update: In the part of the swarm I'm connected to, there are:
>1 seed
>3 people with 79.3% (including me)
>4 people with 53%, 23%, 12$, and 9.6%

Let's keep it going. Then, more files will be distributed way faster.

If there's an updated torrent that's more organized, like >>36492542 said, or that has the updated files from cloppero like >>36537393 said, I'd like there to be some way to automatically update the torrent that we're all downloading.

I assume both posts I made were by the same person, the PolandAnon.

To be honest, I haven't been looking through much of what I've been downloading. A lot of what I've randomly clicked through is of the hyper fetish, futa, or is zebra supremacy, which are all anti-fetishes to me. It is only my archival instincts that are keeping me going.

Here's hoping you all have productive downloads. Mention this thread to people in your home generals if you have them. We can probably get a handful more people in the swarm.

Dunno how long have you had "high speed" internet, but for me (in central eu) when my download speed was 1.5Mbit/s in 2004, I definitely had that 300g data cap. Actually it was not a "hard" cap, but if you would reach 300g or above download for 3 consecutive month then the ISP terminated your lease.
It was lifted in 2005 or 2007, I can't recall. Or was it even later? I'm not at that ISP anymore.

>Is there a way to upload a torrent without downloading?
Not unless you download torrent files from some other source.

If you only want to download/seed certain files in the torrent, then that's entirely possible. Every client I've used in the last ten to fifteen years has included the ability to selectively download torrent files. You can just set your torrent to only download/upload the specific files you're interested in. Just keep in mind that this torrent keeps the files in 32mb chunks, so if you pick one file, and it's next to a bunch of image files, then you might get a bunch of random images from some art pack you're not interested in. I don't think that's a huge issue.

As of now my ratio is 1 meaning that i've (ideally) uploaded a full copy
>>
>>36550559
I think ratio just refers to the total amount of data uploaded to the swarm relative to how much you've downloaded. I don't think that relates to there being two complete sets of the full torrent being on the network right now.

Also, to the Anon using Deluge to download, how is it? I basically jumped from uTorrent to qBittorrent, and haven't bothered with any other clients in the past number of years.

So much of this torrent is stuff I would never download myself. Lots of futa content for one, at least one cosplay set that I've seen, and the full, super high res files of the artist packs. Normally, I'd download versions of the artist packs that weren't ridiculously oversized. I don't have much use for a 32 megabyte image that's a work in progress.
>>
>>36551330

I saw a rare flag that I was briefly connected to. I think they were using a BT connection instead of the uTP connection that the rest of us are. I also assume that this means they were starting to download stuff from their browser or something. There was nothing written about which client they were using. The flag also disappeared too quickly before I could see what it was.

I really like the torrent protocols. I don't want to disrespect old filesharing programs like napster or limewire, but torrents really do seem to be one of the best ways to do things. The only bottleneck I really see in the format is discoverability. Maybe future versions of torrents will let you check the announce server to see what files are being transferred, or maybe not due to security reasons.

qbit is superior in pretty much every way if you actually want to tweak things or do rss-triggered downloads or fix obscure issues. If you just want to download the new repack of cp77 then either one works.
>>
I think there was some possible talk of a slightly more organized pack in the last thread. I think it was from the person who posted the torrent.

Is it technically possible to automate re-organizing of files based on a given template? Because there are a LOT of files in this torrent.
>>
>>36554857
the thing is: what do you mean by "organized"? i gave it a thought and figured out that i could add artist names to certain packs and maybe partially put things in categories. but that's pretty much it
>>36554084
i disagree. i tried qb for the first time and i'm surprised by the lack of certain options and info
>>
>>36555941
>the thing is: what do you mean by "organized"?
That's a really good question. I honestly don't know what that would look like. Some sort of metadata that would let me sort packs by artist and some information on when the packs were released would be nice. The kinds of information that are normally on the website's post that has the download think.

I don't know how that would work with the file structure here. I was starting to think that there would be a complete archive of the website itself, which would include the blog that had the various thumbnails and links that would redirect to the art packs, but that seems like it wasn't backed up. Re-creating that would be a silly amount of work for probably not enough gain.

qBitTorrent just says availability is -1 when your finished downloading. The stat is pretty meaningless once your download is finished. The availability is a measurement that is relative to your connection to the swarm when you are downloading. It probably goes to -1 when your done because you don't need to connect to anyone anymore since the files are all on your computer.
This link does a good job explaining availability. Basically anything less than 1 is bad. 1 is the minimum for a successful download.
Also pic is a bunch of torrent in my client. Availability being -1 is normal don't worry too much about it. I'd say seeds is a better indicator to care about.

I checked my files. Turns out I only downloaded the "select explicit" torrent. One point two gigabytes, and just over two-thousand files.

Do you mean the archive of all images, or an actual siterip, or images plus a metadata file with tags in it that I can import into Hydrus?

I'm curious about the lost images from the infancy of this board. I've notice a lot of them are missing and most of the clop from any time is not archived.

I'm talking about the Ponibooru archive that was published back when it went down around 2013. I remember there were several torrents for it. A complete archive of all files, an archive of all SFW files, all NSFW and Questionable files, Select SFW files (files that had a lot of upvotes or favourites), and Select Explicit files (files that had a lot of upvotes or favourites).

I don't know if there's a difference between the boorus. All I can tell you is that the actual folder in my computer is named "Ponibooru-Select-Explicit".

Wow. I'm queued up and ready to go, but I'm not sending any files into the swarm. I guess the swarm's pretty healthy now. I'm reading 6 seeds and 8 peers. I assume that that means there are 7 seeds total, since I'm a seed.

So, what's the official reason for the site shutting down, again?

Lack of interest from the site owner?
Lack of funds to keep the site up?
Lack of funds to keep sourcing the new material?
Lack of time available to keep maintaining the site?
Lack of demand from the userbase?

>would it be possible to have a reoccurring /t/ thread
I am trying to start a thread about MLP fan content archiving over at a different board that's a bit lower-traffic, so the stuff should stick around longer. ml pol .net/ 301995
So far, I've got info posts about the El Clopero torrent and The Pony Music Archive, with links to the torrents. I'm also working on a post to make a to-do list of stuff to gather.

I think that organizing and propagating fandom archive links is well worth making a thread for. I'm just trying to figure out if it falls within the rules. Technically, according to the 4chan site rules, we're supposed to post MLP Flash animations on this board. As far as I know, we've never been able to do that.

All discussions are also "supposed" to be about the show itself. That makes almost everything a rules violation with the character threads, drawthreads, themed storywriting generals, and discussions of other fansites.

What kinds of content archiving would you like to see in the thread? I definitely think we could refer to some of the sites over at the Fan Site Alternative thread.

I'm guessing you don't spend a lot of time there.
It's got a relaxed atmosphere, and a good number of threads that collect news of mainstream events.
There's even a weekly movie night thread for a group chat while watching old movies and then a few episodes of MLP.

I grabbed the torrent and saw two seeds and two peers, then I paused it. I'm not sure I want to spend 223 gigs on the Ponibooru images right now. My next big download that I'm thinking of is the Mediafire archive, and that's nearly a terabyte.

>>36595575
okay i see in the stats that there was some upload going on. so it must be qbit's fault
>>
>>36595583
Do you have forced seed mode enabled in the SEC torrent? I'm reading 9 seeds and only 3 peers. That's not a lot of demand for files.

Time to start promoting this torrent and thread out to other places, then.

I was thinking we could try to start a thread, something around the lines of "Canterlot Archives". The OP could have a list of important torrents, archives, and websites that host pone or help the preservation of pone media. Also links to tools that can help anons make their own personal backups.

Sorta related, but I've been using this to archive some channels and playlist.
It uses youtube-dlc which is similar to youtube-dl but it can also archive comments. Been using it to download some channels just in case they ever get nuked. Also good to have you personal playlist backed if you hate seeing video removed from your playlist.

There's a tool that does that? Fantastic. Sometimes, most of the value of a video on a certain subject is the discussion section.
>>

I'm still upset that a lot of pony video's comments were nuked because of the child content policy. Same with all the auto generated music, i liked reading how people talked about the music.

>>
>>36600468
The comments being deleted were bad, but also bad is the other functionality that was removed. No ability to add things to a playlist, no suggested videos, and other stuff.

That policy has to be one of the stupidest things they could have done.

The only decent way to do things to get that "as safe as being locked in a padded room with a straightjacket" effect that they want would be to make a side site that only has videos that are manually added with an actual human being doing a manual review of all content. Do not fuck with the main YT site.

Yes, many people are going to be too retarded to use this, but, as we know from various park rangers commenting on the garbage disposal sites in national parks being complicated, "There is considerable overlap between the smartest bears and the dumbest tourists". Given that Koko the Gorilla was measured to have an IQ of 85, I honestly believe that park ranger.

They are so imcompetent they didn't even implement playlist blocking correctly. There is a workaround i've been using but it still sucks they add more steps because muh children. What you do it copy and paste the video title into youtube search. The video you were watching should be the first or second result. Hover over the video and on the copyright three dots should appear. Clicking that will give you a menu where you can still add to any playlist.

>Yes, many people are going to be too retarded to use this,
Are you talking about the github scripts I linked to ? I had some issues getting everything setup, mostly because windows hate long filenames/commands. I ended up installing WSL and Ubuntu and that worked like a charm. I'd be willing to make some kind of manual if it would help some anons, I feel like the github assume you know a lot of other things.
>>
>>36605667
How did you get to that graph?

I have to use a program that came with my motherboard's integrated Networking in order to see a graph of my network stats, but I can only get a live readout for the last few minutes in one mode, or look at monthly stats where each day is a single datapoint.
