This is the general thread for the alternative fan sites of the My Little Pony fandom. Discussion, development suggestions, and criticisms are all welcome here.>Why alternate boorus?Recent changes to Derpibooru has put its place as the premier location for pony fan art into question. So several new boorus have sprung up to provide alternatives. Many of the altbooru owners post in thread and listen to questions and comments from anons. Can we also talk about alternate sites or programs that aren't exactly pony related, but are aligned with the principle of what's being done here?

>>36375824>who literally were creating accounts and trying to get verified user links to DNP art they've never even attempted.
>>36376510Exactly what I just said. Twitterniggers were literally creating fresh derpibooru accounts just to attempt to get a user link verified to add themselves to the anti-nazi dnp. But they literally were not artists.Do not forget the legend of Background Pony #D898 and those like him.
Just finished loading all the mediafire links to the downloader only have the folders to load, found a few deleted links but none of the files i saved manually.Did any anon got mangas or books from the scrapped list?No disrespect to the anon that made the list but only found music and a few rars
>>36375824This, the anti-"""nazi"" side has a faggot that literally the only work he did was recoloring a Lyra pic. Others were just photoshoping ponies in RL places.
>>36373831The latest version of the Mediafire list is actually: https://u.smutty.horse/lywdlbtmjgx.zip (see >>36356965). Fixed some things and added stuff from derpi/everyponysings>>36376542Yeah, the list isn't that great. I just scraped whatever was on hand. There were lots of other sources mentioned in the Mediafire thread (mylittleremix, EqD and its comments, Tumblrs, youtube descriptions scraped from wayback machine, etc.). But these sources aren't as easy to acquire, so I didn't bother. (I've also been helping a TPA archivist who already has Tumblr/dA/etc dumps, so I figure it a lot of the stuff will be saved in at least one place.)What manga/books are you specifically looking for? The official manga is linked in the mlpg OP, so it's already included.

>>36378074I don't, but here's what I found: The version in >>34132754 comes from Tencent Video and is available here: https://v.qq.com/detail/y/ym53bwlzki3c2ea.htmlUnfortunately, it's region locked and I don't have a VPN that works. After looking through many other sites, I found a reupload on Bilibili. It's split into 30 parts--some of which are 1080p and some of which are 720p--but it's the best I could find. Here is a version with all parts joined together: https://send(.)vis(.)ee/download/41386abec21944eb/#mqnWzdEloOvGEsskZ_khdgSorry for using this site--link will expire after 20 downloads or 24 hours from this post. If you don't get it in time I can try to find somewhere else. Also note that there may be a slight audio/video jump when transitioning between parts. And the video may change size from 1080p to 720p or vice versa--your video player must support this. (I could have stretched/shrinked or padded instead, but this preserves the original quality.)Really, someone should just rip the version from Tencent, if they can. But until then, hopefully this is good enough. If you want to download the original videos yourself, use https://github.com/iawia002/annie (youtube-dl doesn't support Bilibili playlists)Run it like so: annie -p [playlist url 1] [playlist url 2] ...With these links:https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV135411a7y5https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1N54y1R7eKhttps://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1St4y127r9https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1QV411r7Yshttps://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Tv411B7xThttps://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1Mt4y197Rmhttps://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1uZ4y1p72rhttps://www.bilibili.com/video/BV13z4y1X7sehttps://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1vT4y177c2https://www.bilibili.com/video/BV1vt4y1973N

With all the discussion about site alternatives, have we thought about the most important one? Do we have an alternative to 4chan? I don't want to bring political shitposting here, but with all the shit that's been going on in the past years, the future doesn't look bright. I'm afraid what happened to 8 chan could happen to us too.Can we agree on a contingency plan? Where to go when shit hits the fan? Also, with all the rampant censorship and mass deletions/takedowns for both copyright and autism reasons, we could use some more private place to share files and talk about things that would be deleted here. I abhor shit like discord so I'll never suggest it for anything, but maybe there are alternatives. For example, what do you think about stuff like retroshare? It can be used as both chat, forum and file sharing client. It's fully decentralized and can be used with tor. Everyone could share the pony stuff they have without relying on centralized archives, and without worrying about copyright or doxxing. I think we could use a failsafe like that.Maybe there are better alternatives, personally I've seen retroshare used on 8 chan.I'm scared bros. I don't want to lose this corner of the internet. It's where I spend 95% of my time online. I don't want to lose my frens.
>>36379730ponychanmlpolI can't recall the name of that chan where there were actual writefags, and the it has some advanced formatting like orange text and so on.
>>36379730We've got nowhere else to go. All other places are filled with furshit.
>>36379776Mlpol is 1/3 pony. Moderation is probably ok, but still.Ponychan probably is not compatible with our board culture.8 chan had a writefag board, it was called /gtpone/. It has not survived the site change though. Not that it matters anyway, /pone/ has and it's dead as fuck anyway.
>>36379745Lynxchan a shit.Use JSchan.
>>36379660>>36378409Unfortunately not--it still doesn't have a way to bypass the block. Actually, the annie tool I posted earlier supports v.qq.com too, but it just says "IP limit".I did find this Chrome extension though: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/unblock-youku/pdnfnkhpgegpcingjbfihlkjeighnddk/detailsFrom what I can tell, the creators run a proxy in China and the extension funnels everything through there. With it, I was able to watch the video. But, annie doesn't work with the proxy--at most I was able to get the first 7 minutes in 270p. And I couldn't get the redirect method to work.Still, even if there was a way to download or record the video from Chrome, the version I saw was only about 480p, which is worse quality. I'm not sure if 1080p version requires a premium account or something.

>>36379776It's kinda sad to see /mlpol/ is the best alternative by now.
>>36373831Are there any major reasons to use a given altbooru over the others or does it just boil down to whether or not it allows loli/foalcon/patreon stuff?
>>36380386I'd say it boils more down to whatever you prefer. Ponybooru has an active community if that interests youTwibooru does not but will not remove anything DNP/DMCA reasons, and would be a good choice to have as a basic "list of faves" or something.Ponerpics is... somewhere in between kinda? Not too much activity, but it has some. I'm still not sure on their DNP/DMCA stuff but thats probably because I haven't been around enough to see when/if that was clarified. The other specialized boorus are for... well if you're in to that shit. I've been using a mix of Ponybooru/Twibooru mainly.
>>36380386They all allow foalcon and humanized foalcon. Patreon is kinda disallowed on ponybooru, semi-allowed on ponerpics, and allowed on twibooru.
>>36381169Nice! How did you do it? >>36382095Twibooru for compete archive of old stuff no longer on Derpi. Ponerpics for new contents because they currently have no DNP policy. Ponybooru if your want an active community.I'm not sure about Bronyhub's booru, their stance on DNP, or when will they be finally done with imports.
I'm done adding the mediafire archive to IPFS but the problem is that it just refuses to transfer the contents of the "keys" directory. Everything except that works. I'm guessing it happens because it's too big (83k elements = metadata + downloaded files). I might have to change the structure to something like keys/a/b/abcdefghijklmno/ so there aren't that many files in a single directory, but adding all of the files again will take ~24h. If IPFS won't work there's also zeronet which seems like a decent alternative.
>>36382207>83k elementsNo filesystem likes that. I store the contents of poneb.in similarly (first character as the folder name). Keep in mind windows is case insensitive!
Any youtube-dl wizard ITT that can help me with a problem I have with saving pony videos?Very rarely a video like https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5STy-4LXbM will fail because the format code chosen is not available.Currently I use >-f "bestvideo[height>720]+bestaudio/bestvideo[height=720]+bestaudio/bestvideo[height=480]+bestaudio/best"So in this example it tries 248+251 but 248 gives a 404. Manually I can fix this by choosing 137+251 but is there a way to do this automatically for all failed video, ideally as an argument in the -f section?
>>36382535If you don't specify a format, doesn't it automatically pick the best option?
>>36382580It tries, but in this example the "best" video (22) is only 720p.
>>36379852Ponychan sounds good, I'm pretty sure they have no board culture left simply because no one is there anymore. So if this place went down and people migrated there it would automatically become a carbon copy.
>>36382875To whom it belongs, though? Who runs the servers? Can we trust that person to not nuke everything?
>>36382895We can trust it until another one is set up. Think about it as an emergency communication platform.
>>36379730I tried the portable version of retroshare but it keeps hanging after a few secs
>>36379852/mlpol/ could easily make a sub board for poni only. they took anonfillyfags in, so they are the only ones proven that they can host 4chans autism without being dead as fuck like 8 or their splinters.
Anybody else having trouble editing their pastes on ponepaste?
>>36383380The thing with mlpol is that they are fairly distinct in function from /mlp/ itself. It's not meant to be an /mlp/ replacement. Any site that tries to be is going to run into the issue of this place being home for so many years. This place has the people and the content. A new chan wouldn't have that. It's a similar issue to why YouTube alternatives don't succeed: all the content and creators are on YouTube.
>>36379730>retroshareSo anybody want to try this?Add my certificate, link related, and reply to this with yours after you've added me.I'm running it with tor mode enabled which means you can only add me if you also got it enabled.https://u.smutty.horse/lyyzioggapy.txt

>>36383678I looked on youtube but there is little to no explanation about the things you can do with it. They say it's basicaly messaging+forum+filesharing. Seems good on paper, imagine having our private horsefucker network to share stuff whenever some faggot goes on a dnp spree. We should get the whole board on in though, and I've got the feeling that it's mostly discord zoomers nowadays.
>>36383678>>36384138>>36379730On second thought, I'm pretty sure publicly posting your certificate ruins full anonymity and if the tor feature is disabled it contains your ip address. So might not be smart move to publicly post it.Send you certificate to firstname.lastname@example.org, and i'll reply to the email with mine. The home screen of the program tells you what you need to with the certificate. 1) https://ponerpics.org/22830672) https://ponerpics.org/1328718What do you guys think of these images?№ 1 seems nice, but the muzzle kinda ruins everythingDo you think №2 can be tagged as scenery? Also, something is wrong about the pony or is it just me?after some time spent selecting images for onlycomfy, I think something happened to me. I have viewed over 12k images and it looks like I can't fully appreciate them anymore. quality-o-meter is brokenOriginally, the idea was that this website will not be yet another image dump website, where people have to dig through a lot of bad or mediocre images in order to find something outstanding. I, as an arbiter of quality, will separate the wheat from the chaff. But it is not easy. The main characteristic by which I choose an image is aesthetics. Considering an image as a whole, because it seems that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. One image can be done "professionally" and get a lot of likes etc but is soulless (at least for me). (https://ponerpics.org/1663049 - is top 5 wilson score on derpi) but imo it is empty inside, there is nothing to it. And images like (https://ponerpics.org/images/93648 or https://ponerpics.org/images/948480) are fucking awesome because they tell a story. This perhaps is the most important part of an image.
I am also worried about this type of image https://ponerpics.org/images/965660. There are no flaws, but I don't trust it. I feel like the image is constructed to be loved by everyone and I don't find it genuine or something. I don't know how to accurately describe my feelingsI also had a rule - "pony should not take up most of the image" but there are not many images that satisfy this rule and this rule doesn't work very well, so I stopped using it.Periodically I delete images that I uploaded later because they are of bad quality. Why did I upload them in the first place? I can't tell if the picture is good or not. Well, there are 2 important parts - pony and scenery. If one of them is not good, it spoils the whole image. There is always an inner struggle in decision making. (https://ponerpics.org/images/768078, https://ponerpics.org/1212257 (idk about this one, something with wings + weak bg), https://ponerpics.org/images/7573 (i want to delete these (probably will) ) ) I looked through so many images, made so many difficult decisions that I don't know what is good, everything seems to be bad. Sometimes I wonder why I'm still doing this because the joy of the first month of development(programming) is gone. (well, "doing this" is a strong word, the last feature (visually similar images) was released ~2 months ago)There are several images that don't contain scenery at all. I don't know why did I add them. I love when an image has a lot of space so that you can look into the distance.////////////////////////////////incoherent ramblingThanks for reading my blogThanks for coming to my Ted talkAnd as always, thanks for watching
>>36386832>is top 5 wilson score on derpi) but imo it is empty inside, there is nothing to it.I'd agree, the composition is muddled and uninteresting, your eye isn't really drawn anywhere. It's technically very skilled in lineart and shading, but everything else about it feels like a bit of a mess.

The keys and IPs are fully dynamic, so every couple hours the links need to be recreated, so the second time it didn't let me come back.I wanted to see whether or not someone else could still access the links or if the HD servers recognized the fake requests and went into lockdown. For now it only seems the id for the HD request also changes constantly and that's why my method no longer works, so I'm looking for a way around it.Quick question. Does anybody can still access these >>36381169 links, or are dead for everybody?

>>36390838Serious question. Do you think, maybe, some of the people that posted Aryanne on Derpibooru and got banned were actually people like this, signing up just to piss off the mods/harass people in the comments who were innocent? Is it not possible that we have a few actual far-right or alt-right loonies, or poltards, or whatever? Could we actually have more than a few? I know this is a board where a lot of people says bigoted things for the lels (it gets boring though) but sometimes I genuinely worry that there are more of them than just a few and that Woot has a point, even if his conclusions based on that observation are completely over the top. I mean why else do we have the 'no /pol/ pls' unspoken rule?
>>36391342No, I don't think that memes leads to radicalisation, for the record, but that it attracts those people.
>>36391026HOw is this a psyop?
>>36391342at least some of them, undoubtedly. but i think it's a futile and destructive exercise to take a guess at their numbers without actual data from the derpimods. every time there's a perceived "culture war" going on, you're always gonna get those absolutely retarded and uninformed lunatics who are shitposting just because it suits their side better. i distinctly remember when Watch Dogs 2 came out there was a huge shitfit over the game featuring trans characters. guess what? one tranny was an irrelevant midgame villain that never shows up again and the other is a plot-irrelevant quest-giver who has only a few lines in-game. but that didn't stop the faggots who never played the game to shitpost endlessly about muh forced diversity and all that.
>>36391354It's still forced diversity, anon. It's shit both from storytelling side (they don't NEED to be trans, it's in no way relevant to their character, it's like writing a pony fanfic but then insisting on magicalrealming it every other sentence) and from actual representation side (>two irrelevant characters paraded around as diverse is an open insult to trannies).
>>36391342I don't doubt there's a higher population than average in other places, but I think it laughable to believe they are in significant numbers. I think many are just sick and have been sick of the SJW and far-left bullshit everywhere else, or simply jump on for the hell of it.
>>36391383yes, but it was not as big of a deal as those shitposters made it out to be. if you look at the evolving zeitgeist as a whole, the inclusion was just an extension of the status quo. it's really more of an "hey, there are more trannies than before especially in the bay area so lets toss a few in for the sake of immersion" kind of thing than trying to MAKE everyone accept and love trannies. but of course, the fucking tourists who never even played the game decried it as an assault on decency and muh family values.
>>36391354It's to distract everyone's attention from this kind of opinions they have been trying to viralize again. For nobody's surprise, both guys here are autistic.

>>36392275Well hopefully your site can get some of the EQG posters off of here at least.
>>36390946Learn the difference between copyright and trademark. When you draw Rainbow Dash, you have a copyright on your drawing of Rainbow Dash. It's just that Hasbro can stop you from doing anything particularly useful with it (i.e. sell, distribute) due to you violating the their trademark on Rainbow Dash the character. You still have the copyright, you COULD even stop Hasbro from using your drawing of Rainbow Dash if they attempted to do so without licensing it from you, as they would then be violating copyright.(Though much of this may so far be moot for this """"artist"""" given that their """"art"""" seems to be very copy-pasta'd from other artists work. And I would suspect they're not licensed to do so.)
>>36392493When you draw a fanart without permission from Hasbro, it can't be published anywhere. You can't publish it, because Hasbro didn't give you permission. Hasbro can't publish it, because you didn't give permission. Well, legally, anyway. All fan-artists are technically pirates.

Keep grammar legible, avoid L33T spreak and memes and you're peachy. Been there, done that.Have you heard of the requirements to enter the SCP Foundation? Had to read twenty two documents with rules and guidelines about grammar, formatting, aproval methods, comunity guidelines, forum posting, IRC installation and filesize regulation. Then an exam on item classification and the proper use of terms and a guide about outdated procedures and bad cliches. Then another guide about bbc code formating and warnings about the use of copyrighted content. Finally had to redact an introduction e-mail, set up a wikidot account, locate and reveal a series of words hidden among the guidelines and forward it all to one of the site moderators while waiting for [REDACTED] days until received a confirmation e-mail before starting posting. All that was just to start posting in the forums. To get a mainlist article? That's when things get hard.

At the end of the day, lgbt people kinda exist everywhere. Then again, I know jack shit about watch dogs 2, so idk if it's really paraded around. My point is just that if a character is well fleshed out and otherwise well written, who cares if they just so happen to be a tranny? >>36392599Well, the entire purpose of this site actually arose before Pastebin nuked everything. I maintain the DZG greentext archive after fixing it up and updating it back in 2019 and decided I wanted to make a little cool centralized place for the archives. I ripped all of the greentexts in the Pastebin archive and downloaded them, creating a mediafire and mega and allowing others to download them at their will(http://www.mediafire.com/folder/ntq6y94betsbo).I also went and used Monolith to download all the archived threads and embed the assets in the .html files(http://www.mediafire.com/folder/39laem7unbrux/DZG_Thread_Archive.This was all like a year ago and I've been keeping them updated since until, well, Pastebin had an autistic meltdown. So then I switched the archives to Ponepaste(https://ponepaste.org/814) but uh, fucking all of the old pastes from Pastebin are basically deleted, so that essentially makes this entire listing useless since they're mostly dead links. The only workaround Dazzlers or people wanting to read the greens have is just going into the filehosts the archive is up on and downloading what they want from it. That's lame.So the only way around that particular problem was either waiting for Ponepaste friend to make an API so I can just mass-upload all the shit, use scraping and requests to submit them that way, or, since I have all the files on hand, just put them up somehow myself. I chose the last option. There's no account creation, just an Admin account where I can login to edit the stories/post new ones, update the current thread link in the navbar, etc. I mean we really don't get many writefags so... I figured it'd be better for the writefags to just stick to Ponepaste and I manually post whatever up on the site.>>36392721I put it up on Bitbucket. https://bitbucket.org/StarGhou1/dazzlefan.club/ it's not finished yet. But, it's using Python and Flask, and Bootstrap.
>>36393833Thank you. It's just a couple dozen users, but boy they are annoying to the point of desperation, and since they are all unemployed and retarded, they can just camp on a thread to fill it with their shit, convinced they are doing an act of justice, so any reply that hurts their feelings only encourages to be more and more annoying.Every time they spot an opinion they don't like it's the same old story: they dogpile on the guy, then they fill the board with smugness and annoyance to try to mock and gaslight the guy behind of his back and they never, ever shut up.I'm talking about people so tiring and unpleaseant that you end up wishing you could break their necks to make them shut up for once and all so everyone else finally could have some peace.
Does anyone know what this guy is talking about, and if so can you send me a link to get the stuff? I'm assuming they mean the old daring do shit but I thought that was long since irrelevant. Also I have no clue where the fuck I saved them even anymore.I get the feeling I may be getting DMs asking for it though, so any help would be appreciated.yes its sligtly off topic but figured theres enough archivists here that they'd be able to help

>Quick updateAdded monthly popular pastes to the discover page. Also, a rest API is in the works. That data will contain paste id for the URL, author name, creation date, and update date/time. It still a way off as it still lists private pastes. PonepasteAnon, I found a strange thing. So, I installed a new browser and decided to login to ponepaste from there.I entered my login and pass, but wrote the first letter of my username in the lower case instead of usual upper. The site still logged me in, but account ended up named exactly as I wrote it e.g in lower case. It showed my paste list and the dialog on it, as usual but all editing tools on a paste was disabled as if I weren't logged in.I relogged, this time having written everything right. My account was named as usual and all the tools were back.Dunno if it's a potential vulnerability or not.

So my theory is you were using the last session-id from last sign in.I'll still look into it. Let me know if it happens again.
>>36398666I didn't transfer anything. No bookmarks, no login data, no settings. Nothing. Hey PonepasteAnon.I've noticed that sorting pastes by 'date' doesn't seem to put pastes from different years in the right order. It'll list pastes from newest to oldest (in this case, all the pastes from 2020) but when you get to the bottom of the list it'll start listing pastes from 2021, rather than having the newest 2021 pastes listed before the 2020's, if that makes sense. I've done an image made of 2 screenshot snippets to illustrate my point. I hope I'm being clear enough.
>>36398569Rome,Please delete the "image_collection", "image_collection_2" folders.Seemingly every ~5th file upload fails due to some reason -> file gets saved as a corrupted one in some cases. I get a lot of "connection aborted", and timeout errors. And if a file upload fails and manages to save a file with 0 byte in length the folder becomes inaccessible for minutes. I can list the root folder fine, but not the image_collection_3rd_try if a upload just failed.I switched from uploading each one as is to just upload them as a multipart zip, at least I have a smaller amount of files failing.>>36388873>>36394749https://drive.romesilvanus.io/wl/?id=VzFkUBR8fTWmS6ZjfR1n26I9gtx34uWa&path=image_collection_3rd_try&mode=gridHere you go. >>36402707Because of turds like those.

>>36380386I strongly favour Ponerpics. They imported the old metadata from the Derpi import, and they have an automatic scraper, so most of the image ID numbers are the same. They even have old images that were deleted from Derpi. It's only for the newest uploaded art that the image IDs are getting a bit wonky.
>>36403797Their autoscrape does same thing Sapphie is doing at Ponybooru, uploading images conventionally instead of having ID matching. It would be way better if they were actually doing IDmatch for new images, especially since they have a very large ID reserve for exactly that.

>>36391342Short version: No.Long version: It depends on your definitions. Many times over the past ten to fifteen years, I've expressed a completely normal statement of good faith, like "People who force someone else to have sex against their will should be punished. That's rape, even if a woman does that to a man." Many loud, angry people insisted that I was then all manner of words that are the functional substitute of "evil". I was a "misogynist rape apologist" and dozens of other bad things. If you are of this kind of mindset, then yes, most people everywhere really are naxis, because that word has nothing to do with what we've all been told it actually means.Trump is basically a Democrat from the 80's. He's not even really a conservative. But, since he kept to his values, and the overton window has shifted to such an unbelievable degree, he's considered an alt right literal hitler extremist man.Bottom of the line, while I have to say that, statistically, there's probably at least a few people in the world who have any given mindset you want to sketch out, I do not honestly believe the bogeymen that the subverted idiots are whipping themselves into a frenzy over actually exist in any meaningful numbers. They're just fanatical cultists using these words as a ritual in their secular religion. The words and accusations mean nothing more than "You're not in the cult like I am! You're a heretic and you're evil!". It's nothing more than the barking of mad dogs. The fact that almost all of their behaviour is easily observed to be either evil, or to have easily predicted disastrous consequences is making any sort of opposition to them seem like an inherently good thing. Their insanity is making parallel definitions of these words. It's also getting many people to look in to them, and see that the basic values of thing like "Mass killing is bad" are actually still upheld in the real meaning of these words.
>>36391350>HOw is this a psyop?>"Oh, no! This specific website with this specific name sounds controversial and like something you need to be aware of! Everyone, go learn more about this site! The students ended up having actual discussions and seeing some real information that conflicted with their existing worldviews for the first time in their lives, and the professor had to deal with getting the opposite result that they were aiming for. Cultists being exposed to outside information is something they always try to discourage, since it means that the people who are able to learn will be able to escape the cult programming.

>>36395933There are obviously going to be some people who want to make thorough archives of all the pastes on the site. Given that, might it be an idea to eventually have a torrent of all (public)pastes on the site organized by user? I imagine each paste having some sort of metadata file with it to include things like tags or upload/edit date. The way it works in my head is that the torrent might be updated monthly. The idea of the torrent is to reduce the strain on your bandwidth from all those requests.Obviously this, like a lot of other stuff that's on your plate, is an "eventually, maybe" item. >>36407871I'm afraid I missed that, which threads/pics were they commenting on?
>>36407808>Are any of these pic sites quality only? I mean no memes or junk like DB is full of.Then what you want is a site that has no user-generated content. What you are asking for is a user's "best fanart I've ever seen" folder.A booru where everyone can upload images will always have images that fall in to many niches. Some will upload short comics. Some will upload particular screencaps they like. Some will focus on getting images of each character in there. Some will like landscapes with little focus on characters. Some want images of certain characters, while others might inherently hate those characters (ditto for liking/disliking anthro stuff). You are asking for an extremely curated image gallery that has no life in it. The only way to make this happen is for you to build it yourself. Look through your favourited images on a booru.Quality is, at least to some degree, subjective. Go look at >>36386832 and >>36386835 to start to understand why. You can have something that's technically great, but lacks composition, or lacks something else that makes it feel soulless. You can also have something that's pretty rough around the edges, but the image tells a story, and does things that few other images even try to do.Boorus that allow user uploads are also a way for new or up-and-coming artists to practice their craft and get attention and feedback. This is one way that objectively not-great art can end up on a booru, but this fosters a community aspect. That community aspect can help these new artists get more invested, want to stick around, and will help them improve their art and then you'll start to get your quality images.TL;DR - There is no such thing as a "quality only booru", even on a conceptual level.
>>36408205>Quality is, at least to some degreeAaand this is where you outed yourself as a derpitard.
>>36408397Nope. I was one of the first people to hop onto ponerpics when it was set up.Some people find art of a character inherently lower quality than art of a landscape. I say that many people mistake quality with preference. Therefore, when someone is using the word quality, I can't assume that they're using the same definition of the word that I am. They are very likely using preference instead of quality, but they think it's quality that they're measuring. The two posts I told you to look at were from someone who was trying to make a quality-only site, and were explaining the problems they were having.

>>36408682Nice. One thing I've been wondering about: should the font be sans-serif instead of monospace? Pastebin does set a precedence, and maybe everyone's used to it. But Ponepaste is mostly for stories, not code, and sans-serif is easier to read than monospace. (Serif might also be okay, but I'd prefer sans-serif.)
>>36409942I must admit, I went on Pone.bin for the first time the other day to read something and was pleasantly surprised by the layout. I'm sure the Pone.bin creator wouldn't mind if Ponepaste copied the font and colouration of the text; it's a hell of a lot easier to read.
>>36410048Hmm, the only differences I see in formatting are higher contrast and a slightly larger font size. I do think these are good things to have, though. Higher contrast for body text in particular--it's 4.53, which is just enough to meet the recommended 4.5, but I think it could be higher. Font size I could go either way on.poneb.in also uses a different set of fonts (i.e. "font-family: Consolas,Menlo,...,monospace,serif" compared to just "font-family: monospace"), but it should be pretty close. Is any of that what you're referring too?
>>36410142In general I find sans-serif fonts to be easier to read; they were designed to be, after all. There's also the matter of poneb.in's main text body being cordoned off with a light blue background that's easier on the eyes, and the body of the text being separated in white. This gives the appearance (purely psychological, the text itself is more-or-less in the same place as ponepaste's) of a more centered body, and draws the eyes to the text, rather than having the entire screen be stark-white.I've checked the hexadecimal code for the greentext colour on each site, and they're the same (figured it would be but I thought I'd check), so I think this is an issue of font typing, rather than size or colour.Copying the text from each site directly into Word, I can see that poneb.in's is Consolas in 13.5, with ponepaste's being Courier New in 12.0. So not only is the text ever-so-slightly larger, but the weight of each letter is heavier, leading to darker blacks and more pronounced greens. In short, I think ponepaste should opt for a thicker, sans-serif font. He can play around with the size until he's happy with it, but I reckon the main issue of readability comes to the weight of the font. It's too thin, and on a pure-white background it's harder to read a light green font.
>>36410218Oh, I see. I agree with your points. More color to help the text stand out makes sense (and the old theme did have color, so it just needs to be added back). I also hadn't thought about font thickness, but that should help in addition to increasing font size and darkening the black for non-greentext.Another thing is that long lines are hard to read, as it's easy for your eyes to lose track of where you are vertically. Increasing font size should help with this, but if it still isn't enough, I'd suggest decreasing the max-width a bit. (This is mostly for large screens--currently, it's okay on smaller screens.)
>>36409942I'd prefer monospaced fonts, though that's purely for aesthetics reasons as it's what I'm used to. But I do think the font size and contrast should be tweaked for better readability.
>>36408682I like the change to Recent Pastes, the author names there should link to user pages. Listing the tags on the pastes' page is good, maybe when you've got tags better figured out make it so clicking one shows all pastes tagged with it. The contrast between background color and top bar and paste body was very nice, why remove it?The "Login or Register to edit or fork this paste. It's free." below the tags still appears when logged in.

So I run pony.tube listed in the OP.Last month's bill was over $800, and next month's is looking to be over $900.Normally the bill is only $200-$300.It appears the increase growth is due to a shit ton of increased requests to CloudFront (sort of AWS's equivalent to CloudFlare), which means bandwidth use has increased substantially.I only use CloudFront on pony.tube to serve videos, which are actually sourced on S3.First chart shows CloudFront as the culprit, second confirms it's pony.tube traffic, and third shows almost all the increase is coming from the EU.It seems odd that almost all the increase is from the EU.And I haven't noticed an increase in video views to account for this.Additionally, what I wanted to really post about today is that I'm upgrading the PeerTube software behind the scenes from 2.2 to 3.0.1.This supports a ton of new features, including livestreaming. But with how costs have skyrocketed, I may not enable this, at least not yet.My hope is the upgrade and some other small changes I made in the bg may reduce my costs.I'd like to find another host, but am not sure one exists that would allow a basically infinite amount of storage and charge less than a penny per GB used.Because if I can't get these costs down quickly, I'm going to have to abandon pony.tube.
>>36411939To me it seems like someone is intentionally attacking it.Maybe you can set up a limit for max traffic per IP. Something like 100gb a week or dunno.
>>36411939Web trawler gone wrong? Alternatively, it might be Cloudfront. Maybe something in the EU is causing it to send duplicate requests for whatever reason. It sounds like you should implement a CAPTCHA system, or have it so only logged in users can access videos. You're at the point of considering shutting down the website, we've obviously hit the Godzilla threshold. I thought the whole point of the Peertube system was to distribute the load, anyway.>pone.socialI think you're jumping the gun a little, mister. >>36411939Let people solve a captcha before they can watch a video. Don't use recaptcha though if you can help it.
>>36411939>bandwidth use has increased substantially.Since peertube is p2p, is there a way for anons to help "seed" the videos like one would for torrents? Would that even help?
Upgrade to pony.tube is complete, everything seems okay but we'll see.I also disabled the redundancy setting (basically it would cache videos from mle.party that people requested). I think this may have been the source of the EU traffic.>>36412241>>pone.social>I think you're jumping the gun a little, mister. People complain that /mlp/ is dead, what hope does a new social media website stand? That's mostly just me messing around with Mastodon, I don't think many people have been using it. And as you can see in the charts, the costs for it are minimal.>>36412292>Let people solve a captcha before they can watch a video. Don't use recaptcha though if you can help it.That could be kind of annoying for users, plus I'd have to fork the code, figure out how they do stuff, and re-write that.I might be able to do it as a plug-in.>>36412543>Since peertube is p2p, is there a way for anons to help "seed" the videos like one would for torrents?Seeding only works if:1) someone is watching a video and doesn't have anything disabling webtorrent2) someone else simultaneously tries to watch the same video and also hasn't disabled webtorrentI don't think you can seed by just putting files up on a torrent tracker or anything like that, though that would be nice.
>>36412605>I don't think you can seed by just putting files up on a torrent tracker or anything like that, though that would be nice. That's unfortunate. Even if we had a few Anons donating maybe 10mbps each I would think it'd add up to a decent amount.
>>36409942Weren't monospace fonts designed specifically for better readability? Kinda funny if so.
>>36412630did some searching, it may actually be possible if you use a webtorrent (not bittorrent) client and download the video's .torrent file. You expand the menu below the video (the three dots), choose download, then download .torrent.Not sure if it'd work in a normal bittorrent client
>>36412605>>36412630So I did a little bit of looking and it seems like there is a way to seed PeerTube videos. Regular torrent clients won't work, but ones that support WebRTC will. I got webtorrent.io to work. Pasted the magnet URI in (the torrent didn't seem to work) and everything loaded up. Tried playing the video from another network and it reports that it's seeding/shows uploading.
>>36412669Awesome, thanks. Good to know it's tested and works. Not sure how annoying that'd be for anons, since webtorrents aren't very common. But I guess if you like a video, and you want to help share it, you can always use this to help out.
>>36412661>>36412669So I guess the question is, would this be helpful? If we got a couple of Anons in on it?
>>36412695Sure it would be useful, and I'd appreciate any anon who's willing to help.If you do decide to do it, torrenting the videos from channels that end in "@vault.mle.party" won't help me but will help that federated instance. That's the Russian PeerTube instance that I that I turned on redundancy for recently, and I think that's why my EU usage spiked so much.I wanted to help them out, but I disabled it for now to see if usage falls back in line with what's expected.

>>36418998I only know about fimfetch. What are the others?
>>36418897Pretty sure it's only for commercial sites. Derpibooru doesn't use one even though it has servers in France or whatever it is. I never used one on my defunct pony site, and nobody ever said anything.
>>36420950No, it's because their policies are compliant with GDPR and don't need a consent notification. All those sites that pop up a "please let us track you" notice are doing it because they're keeping extensive PII, long-term logs of your activity, and/or embed third party cookies and tracking scripts.
>>36420979>>36420950I checked out when you need to ask for consent.Derpi does it wrong. Its not only required for tracking cookies, it is required for any cookies which is not strictly necessary for the site operation, eg which stores user preferences like filter settings. Also derpi does track you, just look into the code. There are fingerprinting code in it. And for that you definitely need consent. If you post a comment you always get the same anon username under a single topic/image.On poneb.in I literally store nothing, no access log, no error log, nothing. Actually this is not 100% correct, I don't know what cloudfare stores, but my server sure does not store anything. Actually that's not 100% correct either, it stores a table of IP addresses in RAM to prevent DDOS, and limits the number of requests for each IP. But this is only in ram, and its "necessary for the site to function" so no consent is needed.I checked out what local storage is, and that would work I think. But I have to test if the browser asks for "can this site store data on this computer". If I remember correctly firefox does ask for this.I'm not a web dev, not even close, so these stuff are new to me.
>>36421134the tracking GDPR discusses doesn't mean internally on the site, it means across domains via third-party cookies. as long as any first-party PII storage within the site is removed within the compliance timescales required by GDPR, notification isn't required. The functional cookies for things like filters fdall under legitimate interest and don't require a consent for that reason. In this case, the legitimate interest is that they provide functionality that a reasonable user would expect from a site of this nature, and doesn't infringe user data privacy in implementation.I am a web developer. I do in fact do this for a living, and I've had to clear multiple applications through these sorts of legal barriers. By my experience, derpibooru is entirely compliant with GDPR.
>>36421182I just looked at https://gdpr.eu/cookies/ and there it describes what "preference cookies" are which fits the "filtering" setting on derpi, and later it says "Receive users’ consent before you use any cookies except strictly necessary cookies.". Btw fingerprinting on derpi is sure not gdpr compatible. And it describes what strictly necessary cookies are too, its not just a word combination. So in my case, storing the flag for dark mode does not fall under the "strictly necessary" category.>I am a web developer. Well then, can you answer the local storage question in my prev post?
>>36421378Can we report Derpi to someone who's obligated to investigate GDPR violations?
>>36421441>faggotApply yourself. Those shits deserve a total war.
>>36421467are we really going to sit here and do this shit again, or can we stay on topic?
>>36421441>LocalStorageOn some sites I saw a popup for "this site tries to store data on your computer" from my browser (not a popup from the site), does that mean it gone over the limit or something? But since you mentioned gdpr + local storage:So by my understanding if I use local storage to store preferences, that does not require consent as it never leaves the user's browser in any form.If it would be used for something what gets sent to the server (much like a tracking cookie) then it falls under the cookie law.
>>36421481>on topicIf topic includes TSP and Nebbie being executed by a firing squad then sure.
>>36421481>do this shit againThis will resurface over and over again.Btw, I would not be sad if derpi goes under. I tried to use it recently, and about 50% of the cases if I want to look at something else than porn it was either deleted or not even posted due to DNP. Btw good thing that the reverse image search shows deleted images too (the ID)! So its possible to look it up on the other boorus. Example from today: I was trying to search for shydale's pic what was in yesterday's EQD drawfriend and due to DNP it was not there. Only the NSFW version was there. Or >>36418905 also from today.
>>36421525That's why you use ponerpics instead of derpi. No DNPs + autoimports from derpi + autoimports from ponybooru.

This will be a problem when more gets posted, it unnecessarily loads the server to look up thousands of pastes just for a single request.Working on server-side processing at the moment. Long story short, it's being a pain and likes to bug out. I guess this is the same as how the pastes on the userpage is displayed. I suggest only transferring the necessary amount of data to the client, not the whole database. If the list on the UI only displays 10 items, then transfer that 10 items only.>11, The paste's "text area" is not centered on the screen on the desktop.
