Yeah, yeah, I know. At the same time though, I like to drop the /mlp/ mentality at conventions and just be another attendee who likes the panels, merch, music, and parties. It's a lot of fun that way, despite hanging out with mostly 4chan people. I got that because it was from Choco I think, who's a pretty cool guy I interacted with beforehand and I just wanted more Trixie merch as well.

>>35678906
Yeah, it's super good for what it costs. I'm looking to potentially spend more on a new, better one though. I heard myself in /mlp/con during the gallus-bully art request panel and wasn't really too happy with the quality of the microphone compared to everyone else's. I don't think that's enough of a reason to justify an entire new microphone, but I'll have to see.

> a means for understanding your place in the world

Religion is more of a means of believing you're more important in the grand scheme than you actually are
>>
>>35678587
>>35678977
I've found these both to be somewhat correct from the people I've met and friends I've made. I don't really know who's up there and which religion is correct if one is, but the religious people I've met always seemed to be successful and generally happy.

>>
>>35679111
I was exactly in your boat Anon, you need to get into religion from a psychological and moral perspective in order to see it for what it is, a system of archetypal ideas and mythos that lay down an appropiate ethical structure through which to see the world to minimize the future inexorable suffering of life, after all, whether the gods are inside or outside makes very little difference to whether there are gods.
>>
>>35678952

But you could do this without religion. If you like the ethics that religion dictates, you can follow them without believing in a god. You could believe each human has a higher purpose in life itself and that our purpose is to achieve spiritual joy through art and self-excellence. You can believe that all life is precious just for existing. You can believe that bad people should be punished in this life.

There's nothing wrong with religion at all. But it's not the only "moral" lifestyle one can follow.

Super cute. Looks like cotton candy. Do you have a pattern for the jacket? I've wanted to make a dress for Octavia but I hate patterning and I'm so lazy I just wrapped a shirt around her.
>>
>>35681309
yeah pattern making is pretty much the worst thing ever. I made my own pattern for that hoodie but right now it's just pieces of unmarked paper and a lot of mental notes. I'm going to refine it further anyway, plus you know how pattern makers are about giving patterns away. Also octavia doesn't have wings so you don't have to work around that limitation

Want to know how to do it relatively easily? Wrap the plush with strips of paper and tape to make a paper-mache kind of version of the clothes right on the body, then carefully cut it off along where you want the seams to be and lay the pieces flat. That'll give you something very close to the shape you want right off the bat. I only did a couple of edits on mine to get it how I wanted it.

God, what a sty, I love it. Lego castles, Playmobil man, video game cases in a haphazard pile, controller that's caked in dust, a bevy of old unorganized books punctuated with liquor bottles and doodads, dirty laundry/rags next to your tower, power strip with cords just everywhere...
What's in the jars? They look like a pickle jar and a preserves jar, but surely they're repurposed, right? Whatever's in them must be important enough to keep them within arm's reach.
And like that other anon said, there appears to be no room for your legs, it's not even an actual desk.
You're a mess, you're my kind of mess.

>Lego castles
I didn't want to disassemble it. When I get my own place, I'm gonna go to that one Lego dealer site and buy every set I had growing up only this time, not cannibalize them for my own projects. That's what it means to be an adult.
>Playmobil man
He was on the birthday cake when I turned 1. I keep him around along with a number of other things: two snowglobes behind the salsa and peanut butter along with a small ceramic figure in my pocket to remind me that my mom loves me.
>video game cases
Including original Gameboy (along with Gameboy Camera), SNES, mid-90's PC, N64, Xbox, PS2, Xbox 360, 00-10's PC and a few promotional floppy discs for Independence Day and Mars Attacks along with a Windows 95 backup and an emergency Windows 95 backup. There's one floppy that just has MOON! scribbled on it. Least and certainly least is one of those Tiger Electronics things that we all had. I got that one from my cheap uncle in 1997 for my birthday when he asked me what I wanted I said Bomberman 64.
>old unorganized books
Not so much in this picture but definitely present.
>liquor bottles
No alcohol. Never been a fan of it, and I can't drink it anyway while I'm on these particular antidepressants.
>dirty laundry
Yes. Though I put those shirts there because late at night, I get hot for some reason, so I take my shirt off and often forget about it before bed. There are four shirts there.
>jars
Salsa on the left, peanut butter on the right, panko flakes on the far right. I like to snack on chips and salsa or pretzels and peanut butter. Panko for ramen. Nothing interesting.
>leg room
I have enough. It's not a desk, but I took the doors off a cabinet and rest my feet on the bottom.

It's not even close to a comprehensible pattern right now anyway. I removed pieces on the fly to add the stretch knit parts, seam allowances aren't marked, nor are the areas that need to be hemmed. Giving it away as is would be a 50/50 chance that it would help or harm anyway

>way too much stuff
For better or worse I've always been materialistic. Back when MLP was going strong it was cool to be a part of the community. Participating in the /plush/ and 4CC. Getting to post an absurd amount if pony stuff with a unique battlestation. The thing I've tried to do with owning so much crap is to keep it focused on a unified theme. My computer area is mostly just pony. And my room is mostly Spice and Wolf. It's the other random stuff like swords and random anime that I want to cut down on. Keeping everything themed.

>>35683759
Perks of living alone is displaying whatever you want. Framed posters are always top tier compared to just paper stuck on the wall.
>>
>>35683814
Thanks. Having this much good taste can feel like a lot of responsibility sometimes.

>>35683816
gonna be honest, idk what spice and wolf is. As to personal possessions, years ago I stored everything I'd owned up to that point when I moved to Toronto and I was living in one room. I've moved several times since then, mercilessly disposing of anything I don't think I'll need or use. A couple years ago they asked me to go through all the storage and I just said nah, get rid of all of it.

All I've really added to my pool of worldly goods since then is tools and supplies. I try to keep things very lean so that when I eventually get tired of living and shoot myself in the head, it'll only take the survivors a few hours to disperse my estate.
>>
>>35683837
Spice and Wolf is an anime. It's set in a medieval era and has a comfy vibe. It sort of makes my room feel like a cabin in the woods. I'd like to get rid of a lot of stuff but I'm so attached. Fortunately I've lived in one place for 23 years so haven't had to make the decision of getting rid of crap or packing it up. I've got a fair collection of wood working equipment building up though. Don't shoot yourself, Anon. If you weren't alive I wouldn't be getting to have this nice conversation with you.
>>
>>35683756
Funnily enough I'm currently working on acquiring a better desk. Gonna finally be able to replace the piece of shit I'm using at the moment.
Otherwise yeah, pretty accurate.

>>35683476
Eh, it's not that bad.
>>
>>35674654
>>
>>35683861
ah, I never into anime. Pony is really the one geeky indulgence I've got. No dungeons and dragons, no gaming. I like to have work projects and I like to be left alone.

As for shooting myself in the head, you shouldn't worry about that. It's not a depression thing; it's just literally what it says on the tin. I'll never be able to retire, and eventually I'll get tired of working. I've already done pretty much everything I feel like I needed to, and watching my father get sick has only convinced me further that getting old and having my body fail isn't something I'm interested in. I signed away my inheritance to my sister a couple of years ago.

I am and always have been a stubborn cunt, with no faith in other people or the universe. Dying on my own terms is just how it's going to be, because I'm exactly the kind of arrogant you have to be to believe you're the only one who'll time your own death properly
>>
>>35683894
Pony probably saved me from suicide in 2010-11. Gave me something to look forward to and people to talk to every week with a new episode. I'm thankful for it. It has been somewhat difficult to find interesting things to do lately. Hard to get motivated to take on projects or hobbies.

>Dying on your own terms
Kind of funny. My mother a couple days ago told me "No one knows when it's their time to go." Being a smartass, told her that someone committing suicide actually has a pretty good idea.
>>
>>35683929
Well a lot of truth is said in jest. Suicide tends not to be all that elegant, but that's the only ugly thing about it.

What's ugly is mental illness, but you can have one without the other. I don't think we were meant to slowly fall apart. That's how I feel about it, and no amount of prevailing sentiment is going to change my mind. Not taking everyone else's half-cooked opinions seriously is the best strategy I've got for keeping myself from actually being depressed. I feel like I live in a pretty dumb world full of pretty dumb people, and I'm better off leaving them alone to do their dumb shit while I do my own thing. I'm grateful that they're competent enough to run the infrastructure that keeps me comfortable, but that's about it.

What projects do you do, or would like to do?

>dumb world full of dumb people
I feel the same way. I tend to just mind my own business. Easiest question to ask.. "Is what this other person is doing affecting me?" The answer is 99% of the time, "no." So I don't care. Too apathetic to care about most of the world and too pessimistic to think it'll change.

>projects
I play piano daily and would like to sing more but I think my vocal chords might be damaged. There is a certain rasp that I can't get rid of. Not sure if it's more because of improper technique or because with quarantine I haven't used my voice much in ~3 months.

I also did some woodburning a few weeks ago. I originally intended to woodburn my computer case but never got around to deciding on what design. Pic related is what I did for the 1.4 release of Terraria. I've wanted to sell it or at worst donate it to one of the big name Terraria YouTubers because it currently just hangs on a wall in my sewing room to which the door is always closed.

I've also been waiting like 8 months for my cousin to embroider the eyes for a 10" Dash plushie I've had cut out for ~3-4 years. I hate applique and don't have much motivation for sewing which is why I haven't really bothered to get her to finish. She's not the kind of person I'd ask for help on something important..
>>
>>35683987
You've got a sewing room set up but never sew? Your cousin has an embroidery machine?
>>
>>35684012
It's kind of a crafting room. I have my sewing machine in there but I also use the desk space for soldering, fixing, woodburning, drawing, etc. After the /plush/ threads died I don't sew much. Mostly just when patching up old clothes. I have 2 empty rooms in the house plus my crafting room. It's just excess space most of the time. My cousin sells embroidery for business. She also sews diapers, bags, backpacks and more. She wants to buy a $12,000 embroidery machine some day. The one she sent me has spools for 6 colors and a bunch of ridiculous features I could never justify spending money on.
>>
>>35684036
ah. Well I guess you've seen my workbenches. It's the same kind of deal. The rework and test equipment is too inconvenient to move but it's mostly out of the way. The table behind me though can be cleared off and I can set up sewing supplies there. Or if I'm disassembling something it'll go on there. If I need more space for cutting material, I can use the kitchen table. It's also easier to deal with cleaning up fluff from cutting out there anyways.

I'd like to get my own embroidery machine. Right now I'm looking at a bernette b70 that seems feature rich for the price. It'll still cost me a couple thousand though. Right now I use my mom's machine, so when I need to do some embroidery I'll drive out there. Not very convenient though, especially when I have to test designs.

Easier if you need to find something quickly in the dark but don't want to get up and walk to the other side of the room to get the light switch.
I on the other hand can relate to this super hard because it takes me a hot minute to walk all the way through/around my parent's house and back just to get to my light switch that is on the other side of my bedroom wall. I can't blame anyone for it either since I built the damn wall.

It'll still be custom watercooled and all. I just don't have the time to go full out custom with painting and other shenanigans this time around.

also, my current battlestation is boring and depressing so I probably won't post it.

I've thought about heating elements lining the inside of a a life-size plush before, does that count?
>>
>>35693057
well it's a strong start to a problem I'm still thinking about. Which is how to not have them catch fire in the event of some kind of electrical failure.
>>
>>35693067
Yeah that's kinda prevented me from doing it. I've looked at clothing with built in heating elements and found where to get them but haven't seen any controllers that I feel like would be safe. I'm not actually worried about the heating elements going up as fuses solve that, but rather lipo battery packs going nuclear is my fear.
>>
>>35693086
that was the exact concern I left out of my last post. I'd be looking at lipo cells to power the board as it's likely to be fairly processor intensive. Using ones that can provide just enough current for the demand instead of high drain ones is a start, but they still will be packing a lot of chemical energy. You don't need that much energy to start a fire anyways if a short is next to flammable material.

I don't think I'd even consider running a heater off of batteries. As much as anything because how long would it even run for? Minutes?
>>
>>35693067
use thermistors if you don't want to use temperature ICs, they're passive and you just need to figure out the fire hazard temperature. a good old fashioned fuse should do the trick too.

>lipo battery packs going nuclear
oh. yeah that'll probably happen instantly and render any safeguards useless. don't buy cheap chinese shit. I have a 20000mah battery i decided to take a chance on from china and it's already inflating. i'll probably take it outside and throw a brick on it and see what happens.

>>
>>35693118
yeah, thermistors and PTC fuses would be a minimum. I've used them in other designs where I was afraid of overcurrent killing things

I'm sure there are official guidelines somewhere for this
>>
>>35693118
I'm well aware of what cheap lipos do. Had one go off in front of me as the guy handling it set it down on a table. Having to need a lipo balancer built into the control board is a real bother though since even good lipos need cell balance. It's almost Arduino territory at that point. Might as well as wifi and remote control.

>>35693106
Not terribly long, a hot plush is no fun once the bed warms up. Would be great for a cold bed on a cold day though, just long enough to get comfy then shut off.

Had thought of doing warmed up lewd bits as a starting exercise since they would probably be easier to experiment with rather than a full size plush.

I finished those a couple years ago. They're pretty relaxing to read most of the time. There are a few moments with blood and terror but compared to like... Wheel of Time or the Lightbringer series it's nothing. My main complaint with the LNs is that the last book has a story about Lawrence and Holo inviting people to the wedding but then the next chapter is some side story and the actual wedding is skipped entirely. No description of her dress or a kiss or her ears/tail fluffing up. Disappointing. I'm at least thankful for a spinoff involving Myuri. More cute wolfgirl.

I searched 'safe, pinkie pie, scarf, snow' (sorted by score) and this soulless vector version https://derpibooru.org/images/699524 was on the first page. It had two artist tags, so I figured it was a remake of a previous pic, and checked the artist whose name didn't match the source URL. 'artist:umeguru, snow' gives exactly the right result, as well as a Surprise version https://derpibooru.org/images/500589

decorating computers is like the weirdest thing to me

The only reason to make it look cool is if I want to display it. I don't. I want it shoved under my desk in a corner out of the way where it's not shitting up my space.

And if I did want to display it, why buy the computer equivalent of christmas lights and put them in a transparent box? I've seen way more interesting, classy things done with computer hardware from scratch.

>>35700296
Why paint your walls a colour you like or put up pictures you find pleasing? It's about making your living environment aesthetically pleasing to yourself. If for you that's minimalism and hiding things out of the way, great. But that's not the same for everyone. I wouldn't decorate my home like my grandmother's either.
>>
>>35700328
okay but why the computer specifically? Why not the microwave? I have to have that on the counter instead of the floor so it's a way better candidate.
>>
>>35700337
Because you can, and people typically spend more time at their computer than at their microwave. You can buy custom parts for PCs but to my knowledge, that's not something you can do for microwaves. But I'd still consider it preferable to have appliances I like the look of over ones I don't. Some people are more utilitarian in outlook and don't care about such things, obviously.
>>
>>35700351
Well, okay I'm definitely at my computer more than my microwave, but I'm looking at the monitor, not the box. I've probably looked at my microwave more than my computer case.

If the thread stays up long enough for my cable splitter to arrive I'll post a pic. My case is an old HAF 912+ which I'm keeping forever because the airflow is great and the mesh and air intake/exhaust holes are very honeycomb-like, which adds to the hive feel.

That is a nice beefy case.
My case has holes in a similar pattern, and behind them is an actual honeycomb-like grid which looks really cool in the dark with the fans shining through.
I'd show pics but my phone's camera is dogshit at taking dark pics.

I'm pretty sure they're OOP, though you might be able to find one second hand, they were pretty popular at the time.
>I love mine, but I kinda want to upgrade my PC.
So do you mean you have one already? Why not just dump the internals? Mine's on its third set. The extra drive bays are removable so it will fit larger modern GPUs as long as you don't need space for more than two 3.5" and two 2.5" drives (and even then, you could fit adapters to the 5.5" bays for more space).

The one thing that won't fit in there is radiators for water cooling. They have to be mounted externally to the top, there are pass-through holes in the rear for tubing; pic related. Looks kinda cool though, fits in with the industrial feel.
>>
>>35700833
Looks like it's no-joy for a GPU though.
>>
>>35700841
I've never actually tried water cooling so I wouldn't know. Does the lower tube need to dip down like that for water flow? If so yeah, it doesn't look like you'd get one in there. I can't imagine why anyone would need to water cool a PC that's using onboard graphics though. Really heavy duty spreadsheets?
>>
>>35700363
A PC can be compared to a car. Your monitor is the windshield, mouse is the wheel, and your tower is the body of the car, and CPU/GPU is the engine. Upgrade it to make it faster, decorate it for show, personalize it how you want it. Everyone has different aesthetics and different price ranges. It's something you use every day and most towers aren't stuffed away under a desk in a black shadow.

funny you should mention that

two months ago I ran someone over. He's fine, but the car was written off for damage. Not because there was anything wrong with the car mind you; just because the garage wanted thousands to replace panels and redo the paint. I said no go, car's fine, just needs a windshield, so I kept it as owner retained salvage, took the payout for the value of the car and paid $300 out of that for the glass.

The car's still got a face-print in it because I couldn't be assed to peen out the dents, plus it's an awesome story. Still not sure what I'm going to spend the money on; probably an embroidery machine. Definitely not spending it on fairy lights for my desktop.

>The only reason to make it look cool is if I want to display it
That's pretty much the only reason anybody customizes their computer aesthetically. Even if the only person that would ever see it is themselves.
I actually know a number of people who share the same mindset as you. They have no interest in looks whatsoever as look as long as the pc works and does what they need it to. Nothing wrong with that desu.

I can actually relate in terms of people using RGB parts and products more specifically the rainbow vomit modes. I just can't stand the look and don't understand how people think it looks nice.
My use of RGB has always been to achieve a single specific color, like purple for example.

>>35700500
Always wanted the HAF back in the day. What a beast of a case.

>>35700601
A lot of the case mods I did weren't all that difficult or expensive. Most of it was achieved with some materials from hobby and hardware stores and some spray paint.

>>35700833
Impressed that you got it to work in the case at all.

>>35701215
I'm right there with you, anon. Although my setup is rather bland simply because I haven't had the time or energy to really decorate up like it used to be.

>>35693129
Monitors are really the last thing I end up upgrading. I wait a good while for one to reach an affordable price and have decent features. My last upgrade was to a 27 inch 1440p IPS 144Hz G-SYNC/Freesync which I think I got for around $300.

i wish i was good at that. stuff disappears in my garage (obscure chargers and power connectors for stuff I use) and it can take me like a month to find it.

with my living situation, i don't think it's gonna get better. i'll probably have to risk it all and go homeless if I want more opportunities. my boss isn't a complete asshole, otherwise i would've already been laid off due to covid and on the streets. If I did move, I don't think jobs that pay enough to get an apartment are available right now. maybe i'll just get the covid and go to equestria. that sounds nice right about now.

Nah, the only real fix I found was to either put something heavy and wait potentially months for it to flatten out, or literally put it between two pieces of glass and put it in the oven to flaten out.

Considering it's a picture-disc vinyl (known for having mediocre sound and easy desegregation), I'm just gonna leave it as a neat display piece.
I don't have the room to dedicate a space to flatten it, and there's no way in hell im going to put it in an oven.
