=READ THE GUIDE=

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And remember to report any shitposting and spam to keep the thread clean and civil.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.

==NON-BIPEDAL GROUPBUILD==

Build a mecha that does NOT have two legs! This can range from
>A mech with treads or wheels for mobility (ie: Guntank, Hildolfr)
>A mech with no legs that hovers/floats/flies (ie: Zeong, Blodia Riot)
>A walker with 4 legs (ie: AT-AT, BuCUE)
>An arachnid-like mech (ie: Death Stinger, that spider walker from Wild Wild West)
Note that your build MUST be a mech/robot - Just a straight up tank or space ship won't cut it here. Basically, what's allowed boils down to is:
>Zaku II: Not allowed
>Magella Attack Tank: Not allowed
>Zaku Tank: Allowed

Submit your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com , include at least 5 finished pics and any WIP pics you took while working on your entry, as well as a brief description of your build.

Question, how to instal leds on aerial/calibarn head?
Is recasting in clear acrylic the only option?
>>
i know people adjust the proportions by typically extending the waist, thighs and sometimes ankles when they want to make the kit taller, but my question is what are good spots if you want to do the opposite and make the kit shorter without making the proportions feel weird? Same places?

I'm doing a GM Type C Custom at the moment, and I'm still baffled that the kit doesn't have a beam effect runner despite the saber being compatible with it.

Not really a complaint, just very weird.

Yeah. It's no issue since I've already got a ton of spare beam effect parts, but it's still weird. It's also still a good HG at the end of the day.

Oh yeah, wonder if there's gonna be a PBandai Revive Seventh Gundam now that the G-Line's a thing. With the Armour seperation gimmick and all.
>>
>>22268745
I honestly wouldn't be surprised. Blue Destiny HGs got new versions 10 years after the originals, most likely because they were already making a new Ground Gundam/GM mold. Granted, that was retail release but it was a different time, we won't be so lucky this time.
7th getting the armor removal gimmick would definitely be enough to warrant a new kit - removing external armor like this has been the case more often than not, the existing kit is an outlier if anything.

It's always funny when these gunpla youtubers spend 1000 hours shooting, editing their "ASMR" build, painting, building, sanding, seamline removing, with hundreds if not thousands of dollars in tools and materials, but when it's time to paint one of these they leave them blank. Man, should I just give up on a potential RG/Revive of the Ex-S and just get the old HG?
>>
>>22268990
The "Gunpla G35 Revive Project" was a limited branding used for 5.5 kits (Guncannon, RX-78-2, Freedom, Mk II (normal/racist) and Qubeley) during the Gundam 35th anniversary event. The branding was subsequently dropped for all following kits and removed from subsequent reprints of the original "Revive" kits. "Revive" isn't a denotation that was used subsequently by Bandai, and is merely terminology that was incorrectly applied by reddit to kits never released as such.

Check it out on Dalong

http://dalong.net/reviews/seed/shv07/shv7_p.htm

A fair amount of painting will be needed, and it will take some effort as the white stickers are going over red parts.

Seam welding will also be needed on the forearms and the calves. Nothing too awful there as the surfaces are not crazy designs. You could even get away with potentially just mixing leftover runner with some plastic cement and sanding if you really wanted to be lazy.

Joints also look pretty limited but I haven't built the Dreadnought so I can't say for sure how hard it would be to fix those. Sometimes it's pretty simple to extend things or add in things like replacement joints but that is very kit dependent.

it really depends on what you define as the breakpoints for a "good" or "bad" kit, everybody has their own.
In terms of articulation it's below average even for its time - the limbs have 90 degrees but joint replacement or modification could fix that.
he waist is basically paralyzed because of the wired claws though. Maybe replacing it with actual wires or other softer element could work here.
Proportions are IMO very nice, I much prefer its slightly stockier style than modern Seed design interpretations.
Color accuracy is missing a number of minor elements as usual for Seed HGs, but nothing particularly difficult to mask or just hand paint.
Seams in typical places like limbs or head, about to be expected for a kit that doesn't really try to hide them.
Beyond that the only particular flaw I can think of is that the dragoons are not designed to be deployable and would need adjustments if you want to have them in an action pose.
Likewise, the shield doesn't have a dedicated beam effect part and good luck finding an appropriate looking pink one if you want it clear. Something like Sinanju-style high energy blade would be nice, but the problem is that the only kit that comes with a pink version of it is the mg Zaku slash warrior. However if you prefer painted effect parts or don't care for them then you have a lot of options.

ah right, forgot about these. To be honest I was looking at it from the perspective of priming the whole thing anyway, it's that after that if it's easier to mask around it or grab a brush. If it's painting on bare plastic though then yes white on a blue like this is not fun.
>>

not THAT hard evidently since a bunch of other kits have such gimmicks, if only very simple ones
granted, Dreadnought's Dragoons are pretty fucking huge and thus heavy so they would probably need dedicated stands of their own like you're saying rather than effect parts for shooting out of the backpack. And adding these in would probably drive the price up a fair bit, both in plastic and in engineering. Astray may be a popular manga but it's still bit of an investment for a side story kit.

Those little triangles on his shoulders, should I leave stickers on or paint those little triangles black? Because I feel like I should leave them on as I accidentally sanded off a bit to much and one the triangles lost their top so there's a tiny hole you can see if you squint. Why not? It turned out fine when I tried. A bit dirty though, I had a hard time removing the excess. Is that why you don't recommend it? Paint seeps into the plastic and is hard to remove?
>>
>>22269208
Enamel liner includes thinner which might damage plastic structure if it goes inside parts, where it don't have enough time to evaporate or around/in stress areas like connections, where structure is already weakened. People don't recommend it to newbies to avoid having "I lined my model and it now turned to dust wtf" drama all over again.

>>
>>22269352
Say you wanted to do equipment load outs ala F90 or Strike, you could make caps to cover the holes that could be removed and replaced depending on the load out. In cases like that you wouldn't necessarily have to care about color matching parts to the suit.
Only issue maybe would be how many holes there are and generally 30mm kits are on the smaller side. But that depends on what one would try to do with it.
>>
>>22269331
My green camo tank entry for this GP was 30MM based. I don't understand the question however - it's like painting any other model.
>>
>>22269366
Probably fairly close. I've used tamiya thinner with MLT 1:1.5~. 1:2 might be pushing it but I haven't used them in years. I don't even thin my mr color 1:2 though. The pigment density isn't worth going that thin.

I snaooed one yesterday. Even with its flaws it's better than a lot of MGs from the past 5 years. If they tried 'updating' it they'd probably fuck it up like the F90 and Alex 2.0.
>>
>>22269431
>Even with its flaws it's better than a lot of MGs from the past 5 years. If they tried 'updating' it they'd probably fuck it up like the F90 and Alex 2.0.
I know this is bait but I'll bite anyway. MGs from the past five years are better than ever. Particularly the Alex 2.0 which got a 114 on Dalong, compared to the Mk II 2.0's 98. Those older MGs just don't have the color separation, joint strength, and articulation that modern MGs have, although the Mk II 2.0 is definitely not bad per se.
>>
>>22269449
nobody cares about your retarded gook snapshitter eceleb
>>
>>22269449
You do realize dalong is not an objective measure of quality right? Its literally one guy with his subjective opinion on everything. Some of those 120s do not deserve to be that high for instance
>>
>>22269449
oh shut the fuck up already, dalong says in literally every fucking review that scores above 100 don't really mean anything at this point, they're all great
>>
>>22269452
>>22269453
yes it's not technically "objective". but how are you going to tell me that a kit with more pieces that you can paint different colors is not better in the metric of color separation than a kit with less pieces? How are you going to tell me that a kit that has mobility issues or cant hold its gun up is not inferior in articulation and joint strength to a kit that has no issues in those areas? Dalong's rating categories give a pretty clear representation of the engineering quality of these models.

maaaaaybe you could somehow file away the edges of the eyes for a sliver of a milimeter and then put a stupidly strong led inside somehow. That might also give it a nice, 3d effect. Could look like shit though, I honestly have no idea.
>>
>>22269595
Grades are more like the kit's size and join complexity rather than quality. High Grade and above look all similar to me once they were completed. And if you actually look deep into the complains from above-HG owners, they all complain about how all of those kits are grenades.

ca is cyanoacrylate, eg normal super glue you can get from the dollar store. for joining resin parts, you can either pin them (drill hole, fill with ca glue, push rods in) or, if you're bold, just glue it together either with super glue or epoxy.

How much bigger than the rod should the hole be? Not him but I'm building my first resin kit right now and I'm worried that if I use the same diameter of drill bit as the rod's size the fit might be too tight and I end up stressing the part
>>
>>22269859
Gundam markers are just ink. What makes Gundam markers special is that the tip is very thin, like thinner than the really fine tip markers, so they can get into the small panel lines and color them in. That's what Gundam markers are for, panel lines. They're not really for painting the whole kit.
As for paint markers, I've never used one so don't take my word as gospel or anything but I don't think they'd damage the kit. I just wouldn't really expect to get satisfactory results. If you really wanna use 'em, knock yourself out, but prepare to be disappointed.

i can't just mix based on how the color looks in the printed material, because it's always different from the actual paint mix

There's barely any red on the sniper GM anyways. A lot of times I'll just spray some primer on the left over runners and see if I like how the mixed color looks compared to the color on the plastic. That or check with spoons if I'm not mixing it. The level of care I have is highly dependent on how much of the kit it takes up. Like I'd care much more about that precise light blue of the sniper GM than the few red bits.

>>
>>22270556
well yes the red is just an example, noting how even simple colors require two specific paint bins
blue is also notable because i'm pretty sure sky blue and intermediate blue is just blue with white and gray, but with unknown proportion
my point is, specific colors are okay in fighters, tanks, etc. because they usually only specify one paint bin for each color. if they're going to make me mix a bunch of paint bins anyway, why not start with base colors?

How do you clean your kits? This is the first time I try to do it since I started building a couple of months ago.
>>
>>22270587

>>22270581
something that lists colors in this type of manner:
orange yellow: red 20% yellow 80%
>>
>>22270592
it's never that simple because different brands of paint have different pigment densities and formulations. the best you're going to get for something like that is the manual in whatever kit you're building, otherwise you're just going to have to learn colour theory and experiment with trial and error
>>
>>22270540
And I said - you got one. Any other combination will get you "same but different" shade. This is the whole problem with mixing and trying to adjust to original colours - you never truly get the same stuff. Even buying specific colour at shop will get you different results depending on who's selling (to give quick example from acrylics field - Vallejo "Grey Blue", GW "Russ Grey" and Duncan "Wolf Grey" are often called equivalents but, respectively, one is more blue-ish, one is slightly violet and another visibly deeper). The only sane solution to this problem is to say "fuck this" and use shade you have and like or the one most closely matching actual plastic colour. Any attempt at mixing other than 50-50 is going to suffer from variations. Believe me, I tried that when I started painting.

Again, you don't have to follow instructions blindly. Nobody is going to bitch about slightly different colour, unless said man is an autist in which case you don't have to give a shit about his opinion. Or mine. It's your model after all.
>>
>>22270592
Genuinely if you care about mixing to the color guide you should really buy some orange yellow. It's one of the most frequently used.
>>
>>22270593
i'm not talking about different brands of paint, it's only gundams and they only use mr color for paint schemes

i have lots of other colors, mostly Tamiya from air and armor modelling
i'm not too concerned about following paint guides to the letter, as i know that primer, color modulation, and filters make a lot more difference than the colors of the base coat
i'm more concerned about where to start mixing colors, for instance, how much gray does intermediate blue have? what brightness of gray?

>>22270631
One problem with hobby paints is that their names are not exactly reflecting what you get. You might buy "ultramarine" from two different brands and get two whole different shades. Some companies are giving RAL numbers (search for RAL catalog) to make sure you buy what you want but some are oddly inconsequential in that matter (like few Vallejo Model Colour having whole different final shades than their declared RAL number). So, "intermediate blue" might be basically anything from blue spectrum. You need to either test yourself or guess it. Stupid but there is no other way.

One of my local shops got pissed off by this and self-made catalogue of shades they sell. Insanely useful thing to have around.
>>

Two questions i'd appreciate if anyone could answer
Do mission packs that show up the F-90 II on promo images only work on the II model and not the basic one.
Second, the shield boosters on the gaplant should be the same or very similar size as the HG Hazel Custom so I can recreate this guy right?
>>
>>22271175
Forgive me, I am a filthy phone poster and got autocorrected.
>>
>>22271177
all the mission packs are compatible with both F90 and F90 II. Even the J type which is basically Full Armor fits totally fine despite different chest shapes. Only the Mars F90 is the odd one out and incompatible.
They're just using F90 II in particular for L type here because that's what it was originally associated with.
And yes, the shield boosters that come with Gaplant should be exactly identical to Hazel's.

What colors are considered "must have" for airbrushing (lacquer, Gaianotes)? Obvious ones like white, red, blue, yellow and black aside, what else is commonly used (assuming I'm not a filthy Zeek who buys Zakus or Char MSes) and what is handy to have for mixing to get other colors? I usually like my Gunpla in gloss, but should I focus on getting matt and glosscoating, or should I get both matt and gloss of multiple colors?

Why does this general have a throbbing hateboner for Seed?

SEED sucks watch more anime
>>
>>22272228
It's the epitome of "poor quality work that's popular with the masses." By showing your disdain for such shows, you're proving that you have superior taste and thus are a superior human being. It's like hating League of Legends, Overwatch, Fortnite, Call of Duty, Fast and the Furious, Bayformers, etc.

I hate SEED and Destiny, to the point where Destiny is the only Gundam show I never bothered to finish, but I will respect others' right to watch and enjoy whatever makes them happy.
>>
>>22272241
This is more for Wing. Americlaps can't get over the fact that there's more to it than fag rangers BTFOing everything out. Explains why 00 is a distant second for them too.

Really? I know destiny sucked hard but it was at least watchable for me. Victory on the other hand was so terrible and boring I dropped it 34 episodes in. But 5 years later i rewatched it and finished it and it still sucked except for the ending.

WW1 Space Germany conquers "Free Nations" because their corrupt governments are incompetent and won't listen to the only guy who's halfway intelligent.

Space Germany is also run by a blonde dude who is really cool and does everything right until his redhead twink dies. Then the novels go to shit for a bit before pulling out a rather safe ending.

Wing is enjoyable because it's so bad. it leans so hard on rule of cool that it's both stupid and amazing. meanwhile seed falls flat because of attempting to deal with more complex character melodrama that no one really wants.

How do I escape kit paralysis
This single kit has been sitting on my table in various stages of progress for 3 months, half of it is still on the runners
I enjoy this hobby but I'm struck with dread when I think about painting it because I'm going to attempt shading and I just know I'm going to fuck it up
>>
>>22272459
Why not try shading on some cheaper kits first to get the hang of it so youre more confident when working on your main one?
>>
>>22272459
Cheaper kits and ones you don't really care for
If you really want to encourage yourself get something with awful color schemes or shit like Build kits
Ones that look decent enough but you have no sentimental attachment to

It's okay to make mistakes. You can always start over.

Dumb question, is the reason most Gundams are white is so people in the Gunpla hobby can paint them a different color easily since it's white?
>>
>>22272613
It's basically the anti-char thing
Not only is it a complete lack of camo, it's a very bright and noticeable color in the majority of circumstances
It makes the Gundam stand out way more in space battles
White is also a pure/knightly color that's fitting for the good guys
>>
>>22272613
It’s because the Bandai(?) executives wanted more flashy colors to sell toys during the original run of Mobile Suit Gundam, the colorscheme became iconic, and now just about every Gundam has it!

I think the Wing suits are too serious and none of them align with representing a country like a caricature. Shining/God gundam don't scream Japan to me either but 99% of the other suits in the show clearly represent a unique country.
Now maybe if it was about states in America it could have represented Ohio due to all the goth kids that for some reason develop there
