New Daemon x Machina just got announced, let’s have a thread.
>hopes?
>fears?
>bets on whether we’ll finally get a model kit?

i have no hopes because first one was shit
>>
>>21747588
>doing a new one even though AC is back
Guess they didn't realize it was a hold over
Hope is for collabs to be allowed in west this time
>>
Prior to AC6 actually being real, my wishlist for DxM 2 would have been things like improving the handling "feel", namely gravity. Changing the color of your lights. Better weapon balance and more internal parts customization, less speed being tied just to leg choice etc.
Now? If they can get a better script, and lean further into DxM's unique style of easier combat with things like expanded melee and bigger, stupider ranged weapons, maybe make picking up and throwing objects actually useful or viable, more frequent parts destruction and equipping, I'd be all for that. Outers can either stay and be improved (maybe make cyborg parts actually relevant to story progression?) or be done away with, either would be fine. Make DxM's individual strengths stronger rather than lean into mirroring AC.
>>
>>21747588
The first one wasn't very good so I'm not too hopeful.

This shit wasn't greenlit until AC6, I'm as hopeful for this as the Hawken revival.

I love both AC and DXM.
Even if it's just DXM 1.5 I will take it.
Feels good to like robots in 2023.

>New DxM hard confirmed with trailer drop
>New AC
>MSGBO2 on US Steam in 5 days
>Actually got an english SRW release not that long ago
>Current Gundam Series is alright
>MW5M been doing expansions
>Harmony Gold got their head out of their ass the last couple of years
>Got Gundam Evo, which isn't super great but isn't just literally last minute scraps from Japan's plate right before the servers shut down like most things we get.
>Got SDGBA.

/m/en we really are living in a new mecha golden age. it might not be the heights we dreamed of, but fucking hell, we're actually getting shit at a fairly steady rate now.
>>
>>21747588
I hope for more of everything. More cosmetics, better off-mecha gameplay, faction mechanics, and more (OPTIONAL) things to do between missions.
>>
>>21747588
hope the story isnt a pseudo schizo mess again
>>
>>21747690
I don't think gundam in any good spot right now, but otherwise yeah.
>>
>>21747700
double dubs, nice.

And yeah 100% there was almost certainly a faction system planned for the first game, you can really see it in the character interactions and how you just get kinda dropped into key moments in a subplot like "hey buddy this is happening now and we're all prety tight with you or at least know you well."
.>>21747708
The plots not hard to understand at all, I have no idea why people keep saying this. Grief is fucking insane and blathering about pseudo-philosophical bullshit because he's crazy, his lackies believe him, and because he's old as balls he's got money and connections to pull strings, one of which is getting leverage on other mercs and another of which is that he pulled you out of a tube or something as a back up plan only for it to turn out he didn't need you.

There's a plot twist, the whole thing with what the fuck the Dominator is and that it's why the AI went apeshit and by extension also why Grief went apeshit but this isn't actually a complex plot unless you're trying to glue every fucking 2 mission subplot the other mercs have together into the main one beyond ":so this shit happened and that's why X, Y, and Z are minibosses at the end."
>>

You are having a mental breakdown over a trailer that's only a minute long.
>>
No one gives a shit because armored core is coming.
>>
>>21747588
Bold move to announce after AC6, but honestly I welcome it and look forward to it.

The first game feels more like a proof of concept than a fleshed out game, so I do want to see what direction they take it, and how they flesh it out.
>>
>>21747890
It's more complete than most PS1, 2, and 3 era games.
>>
>>21747890
They actually mentioned in an interview awhile back that they were working on a sequel and that it'd probably come out this year, back before the AC6 announcement happened by a fair bit, but they also mentioned that they had a lot of shit on their plate and wanted it to basically be done when it was done this time and that it'd probably take a bit.

And yeah, the game feels truncated. Not in a bad way, more like they straight up didn't have time after they finished the core experience and had to sand down the edges and remove the branches to deliver a complete product. It'd explain a lot about limited weapon selection and the Reclaimer groups and companies and the messages you get from them and so on. The later in particular talks a lot about you showing a lot of company loyalty for each of them and them trying to court you to their ideology but they end up being borderline non-entities in the end.
>>
>>21747588
Nice. I enjoyed the first one a lot.
>>
>>21747731
It's not the plot being hard to understand, it's the plot being really fucking shit.
>>

Developer stream, Anyone know enough moon to translate/transcribe any important parts of this?
>>
>>21747683
Actually DXM2 was announced as in preproduction before even the "fake" screenshot leaks for Rubicon as I recall.
>>
Neat. I hope they expand the customization and the story isn't so pants-on-head stupid this time.
>>
>>21747588
Suicidal timeslot to shill and sell it
Should've unironically entered a bonus 1-2 years of productions to get the AC dust to settle
>>
>>21748421
I'd imagine they planned 2023 and didn't think AC6 would be out around the same time and various constraints won't let them push it back.
>>
>>21748595
There's a logic to it if I remember my econ classes right, it's only a bad idea if your product is perceived as competition but considering the first game was exclusive to Switch initially the only real threat here comes from the PC market; simply put, if this is still coming to Switch, it has zero worry about AC, a franchise that shows no sign of touching a Nintendo platform for a looooooong time, and even if it did would probably only do so by way of ports of older games and not the current gen stuff.

Essentially, Armored Core's popularity is free marketing for DXM right now.

Anyone shitting on DXM is not my nigga.
Despite obvious similarities, it's not "poor man's" or "kiddie's" AC, it offers completely different gameplay experience, and is far more similar to Monster Hunter or Phantasy Star Online, than any AC ever.
Combat feels different as well. People comparing it to either 4th gen or 5th gen, should actually play damn games before talking shit.
I fucking love AC and I fucking love DXM, and I want more of both.
And I'm actually getting more of both holy fuck.
>>
>>21749982
I played it, and while I agree it's not straight up kiddie AC, any MonHun shit is very superficial. Big Boss+Part Break for schematics is the most barebones way to think of Monster Hunter to the point of being disingenuous.

It's just a midpoint between 4th Gen AC with a dollop of 5th Gen's scale and relative speed with free flight outside of dedicated builds that can be full japanese newtype 4th gen cocaine, there's nothing wrong with that, it's a good game, but "it's mecha monster hunter" is 100% a cope.
>>
>>21750067
Biggest point of Monhun similarity is if you wanna everything out of the boss, i.e. all the parts and things he can drop, you gotta farm him.
How is it disingenious?
You never farm anything in Armored Core, unless you want that S rank, but if you're good enough or missions is easy enough, you can S rank it on the first try, and get everything, and you don't need to touch it again, unless it's LR and FA where you need to replay game to unlock routes.
In DXM you fight boss multiple times if you want to exhaust his loot table. Should I compare it to Diablo or Nioh instead to not sound disingenuous? It does have SOME randomization aspect on loot after all, but not to Nioh's exstend.
>>
>>21750169
One mechanic doesn't make it not basically an armored core game. It's infinitely more similar to armored core [and front mission evolved but we don't talk about that] than it is to any other game or franchise, again that's not at all a bad thing. Trying to shoehorn it into being similar to something else is just stupid.

It's like saying Mass Effect is like overwatch more than Gears of War because it's got character classes for its multiplayer with fancy abilities and cool downs.
>>
>>21750195
Armored Core doesn't have -FREE- flying period.
Even in 4th gen, where you can easily recover more energy than spent on flying, you can't just hold the button and forget, since you will fly outta mission area, you have to constantly control your height. And other Armored Core games are even more strict with aerial control.
DXM doesn't have that, that's one fundamental difference.
Then melee functions completely differently, if you press melee button and your lock is on the enemy, the attack WILL connect. Enemy will have an ability to parry or deflect it, but your sword is guaranteed to connect with enemy model.
Again something like that has never been in Armored Core. It might change in 6, but all previous 15 games only YOU, the player, was responsible for connecting melee attack.
Finally DXM doesn't have non-humanoid legs and all associated game mechanics with said legs, like weapons requiring kneeling or sniper cannons. Even Gen4 games, that have OP-I enabled by default, let you assume firing position while on the ground.

Saying games are similar is like saying diablo and dark souls are similar because you're dude with a sword and you drop money when you die.
>overwatch
>Mass Effect
>Gears of War
Didn't play any of those and never will.
>>
>>21748285
still no update on translation/transcript of this? damn
>>
>>21750233
In fairness you can achieve free flying in any game with the hover extension part because you can get your energy consumption low enough to the point you regenerate energy while using it, providing infinite flight at a consistent height. Made a build the other day in Last Raven that does this, its pretty neat
>>
>>21750291
Free, as in it doesn't require your attention or input or anything.
Hove builds in Gen3 still want you to keep an eye on your energy, you can't have too much weight, and it's still slower than using back boosters, meaning it's not very viable in AC duels and boss fights.

You know how water was a big deal in Armored Core and then in 4 it wasn't, since auto boosting turned it into functionally ground? Auto-flying in DXM is like that, it's basically not even a mechanic anymore.
>>
>>21750329
It's funny because water in DXM will still fuck you up because you don't autoboost over it, even though you get free flight as long as you don't empty out the stamina meter.

Both it and 4th gen will remind you that water is the bane of giant robots if you empty out on meter though.

Otherwise....seems kind of a waste of time. The first game was the definition of mid with most praise being 'its like armored core is back'

Why are so many non DxM fans in a DxM thread?
>>

Im more excited for this than ac6 honestly at the same time current marvelous is absolute trash. I know many former AC people worked on this but im going to keep my hopes in check.
>>
I just bought the game and I don't have the shop, do I need to unlock it through missions or something?
>>
>>21747588
Why bother competing with AC? Unless they release it on different years.
>>
>>21757768
There isn't a shop, not in the sense you're probably expecting.
The bulk of your parts are salvaged from defeated Arsenals, so get used to blowing up every Strai you encounter and rummaging through their wreckage for whatever stuff you don't have in stock. The surplus can be used to unlock parts but the bulk of the loadout economy is in salvage.
>>
>>21757786
But I've seen people with a shop option under hangar in the menu.

>>21757798
There is but it's only stocked with shit you develop yourself because they had to make some hard decisions for time/resources early on. There was supposed to be an entire thing with corporation loyalty at some point as far as anyone can tell. It's also why there's so many glaring holes in the parts roster like why Zen has literally only like 2 swords, 3 guns and no heavy or medium armor parts.
>>
>>21760368
Glaring holes my ass, someone had to be the Kisaragi of the triumvirate.

Personally I think anyone who hasn't played through BO2's campaign at minimum should keep their opinions about CoD to themselves, but that's just me.
How the fuck Treyarch managed to sneak a game with player choice and replayability past Activision back in the day is beyond me, but BO2 did it even if it meant cursing the franchise into an identity crisis arc.
