=READ THE GUIDE=

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And remember to report any shitposting and spam to keep the thread clean and civil.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:

==14TH GUNDAM FIGHT GROUPBUILD==

>Build a Gundam themed around a country of your choice!
>This time around it's Gundams only - no non-Gundam MS allowed. Keep in mind though that the definition of what a "Gundam" is in the Future Century is very loose (ie: Nether Gundam, Mammoth Gundam, Mandala Gundam, etc) so you're free to go off the beaten path when it comes to Gundam design
>You can use other G Gundam kits as a basis, but try to make something completely new instead of just submitting an existing suit as-is.
>Your choice of country is up to you - you can choose your home country or any other country on the globe to represent in the Gundam Fight
>The key element to each Gundam Fighter is a special move/finisher (ie: Shining Finger, Rose Hurricane, Gaia Crusher, etc). Try to come up with a move that makes your suit stand out!

Submit your entries to gunplaplamo@gmail.com , include at least 5 finished pics and any WIP pics you took while working on your entry, as well as a brief description of your build.

Mr GX is the best paint line if you have to use any primary colors.
>>
>>21745318
but think of the children
mr. color is a dead line that hasn't seen meaningful new releases in years, of course they'll want to promote aqueous and acrysion when that's what their development is going into, gaia OWNS the lacquer market and GSI creos knows they can't keep up so they won't bother trying

>>
>>21745905
It's just a sanding stick isn't it?
>>
>>21745920
It's a very well-made glass file. Glass files have different cutting and polishing grits, so you can carve through nubs really really fast and don't have to do much stepping up through grits like you do with normal sanding sticks. It's not a universal solution because
>completely inflexible so you can't do shit with it on smaller spaces
>much more capable of actually damaging the part than sanding sticks are, have to be careful in general and doubly so on curved surfaces which it can very easily straighten out if you put too much force on it
>suboptimal on certain softer plastics like you might see used for hands or weapons, a nipper or hobby knife is better
>have to rinse it out at least once per build to keep from smearing dust everywhere, which is simple but still
>probably worse for my lungs because of how much dust it makes
>retardedly overpriced which I will openly admit
I still have normal sanding stuff but it's like 80-20 use in terms of the raser to normal sanding sticks, I mainly only use 1500+ grits for slight bits of roughness that are too risky to use the glass file on. I'm not going to go as far as to say that it is to sanding sticks what Godhands are to nippers, but I don't regret buying it.

Kept reading about glass files so I bought some to try out. Got the DSPIAE SF-16, SF-15, and the Raser Origin. They all file down nubs the same, but the DSPIAE's clog incredibly fucking fast (need to be cleaned every 2-3 parts) and the edges of the file have a tendency to gouge if you aren't careful because the filing lines run diagonally down the file all the way to the edges. The Raser Origin doesn't clog up and can be wiped after the kit is done and is extremely safe against gouging due to its less aggressive design, it can be hamhanded easily without fucking up.
Basically the Origin is perfect for snapshitters and hamhands and DSPIAE need to copy it already

>HLJ = passive buying
>Domestic stores = active buying
Both end up costing around the same in the end, or a relatively negligible difference.
You can go for HLJ when you have a big backlog already and can opt to get kits "whenever", just make some backorders and wait. But if you actively want something it's going to be more likely you can find it in stock domestically since HLJ has about 0 stock.

If you wanted to get MG Dynames, Kyrios, and Virtue right now, it's both cheaper and faster to do it through Newtype, since they have them all in stock while HLJ doesn't, and Virtue is a big boy and will almost certainly make the shipping cost high enough to exceed the 70 dollar difference between buying domestic and importing (est. $134 for kits on HLJ, $200 on NT).
But domestic requires you to buy a lot at once to qualify for free shipping. If you were to buy the Dynames, Kyrios, and Virtue individually across different weeks or months, that'd be an extra 30 dollars in shipping since you're knocked out of free shipping range you'd end up paying more. So you have to pay everything all up front, while HLJ lets you just sit back and let them come when they come and ship as you please. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
>>
>>21746973
>stash figures hidden among gunpla boxes since I can't display them right now

>>21746988

>>
>>21746988
The good thing about buying domestic is shipping is almost always in the 5 to 15 dollar range or even free even if you have giant fuckhuge boxes. Meanwhile that all adds up a lot if buying on hlj. Like I could buy a Xi, Penelope, mg sazabi and mg Virtue and get free shipping meanwhile on hlj that would be over 100 bucks

Dunno how it's for you anons, but I try my best to support my "local" stores. Mostly because importing now costs twice or more, and my only issue with local sellers are delayed premiers of new kits in here. RG God Gundam came to my local shops in March this year for the first time, while many other newer kits are either delayed 2-3 months or simply are not even being bought by shops. Now, I wanna buy MGSD Freedom because I love SD kits, but in countries next to mine, their shops already had it once and now they just had 2nd batch, while we hadn't even first one. On one hand I want to buy it now, but it will cost me like 20-30 more euros than waiting for it x-months for release here. We have official bandai distributor and that company sucks balls like nobody can.
>>
>>21747041
i support my local store cause my brother runs one and I sometimes get free kits in return for helping out when needed, plus first choice and hefty discount with new deliveries
>>
>>21747019
It usually balances out to around the same cost, since discounts from foreign stores get eaten up by shipping xboxhuge boxes like Xi. Xi and Penelope have been up for forever on hlj because of this, even though it's only 46 bucks, because shipping him is going to be so costly.
>>
>>21747041

I really wish they made S and Ex-S into separate kits instead of bundling them like this. As it stands if you want both you gotta buy two anyway since switching between them is a pain and not really viable with painting included. In practice it just means I'm not going to buy it at all and would rather wait for a HG Revive or maybe just maybe RG in the future.

anon, Bandai has had this tech for decades. These days it's rather rare (only thing that comes to mind immediately is RG Evas) but back in the day it was simply easier than more advanced parts separation while still making the model mostly-color accurate without painting, a point Bandai has prided itself on since the late 80s or so.
Nowadays there's simply no use for it in most cases when they can engineer it as separate parts, which is both more impressive in general and easier to paint. A MGEX using it would be just pointless. It's not an impressive construction gimmick (which the line is built around with the "extreme points"), it's the opposite of a gimmick.
All that being said Bandai has done stupid things in the past, and also very clever things. It's not impossible there is a way they could use that tech for something new, but it is unlikely.
This is a far too long reply to a shitpost, innit?

I'm painting a zowort. I got the joints painted in star bright iron, and I'm going to top coat it with semigloss.
What I don't know is what about the rest of the green armor, which I was planning on hitting with a wash of mr weathering color. It's going to look more consistent if it's weathered in segments I.E. legs-body-arms, so should the metallic joints get washed too or try to avoid them? And I don't know if I want the top coat to be flat or semi-gloss for the main green armor too, which would require disassembly and reassembly.

I don't understand who could think this. I've only been at this a few months, I'm still largely snapshitting, but I can't fucking stand any decal stickers. the reddit is... eclectic. Sometimes there's bullshit like this sticker dude, but for example there was the giga-kino Gundam Mk-II Ver. Kondo a while back. The litany of WIP posts didn't get much love, but then the completed build was sitting pretty at some 1.5K upvotes.
But it really can't be said enough that only retards care about upvotes, and the amount of people here of all places acting like they matter is really fucking funny.
>>
>>21747370
What confuses me most is that if you put some dumb shit like "my first build!" or do some "funny" picture of a snapshit doing something mildly wacky reddit goes wild(for example a snapshitted figure of suletta opening a jar of paint with some wacky caption getting over 500 upvotes) there is a mountain of comments basically adding nothing to the conversation except cringy 1-liners, and people love it. In fact, they don't even talk like people but like some script from a bad marvel movie I really don't get it.
>>21747379
"gunpla is freedom" accompanied by dozens of cringy 1-liners encouraging the behavior apparently.
>>21747383
Upvotes basically translates to the people choice, and apparently the people are choosing trash and humor only a grade-schooler would find amusing. The thing is even when I was in grade school I would rather have cool stuff to look at instead of badly put together works with a (mildly at best) joke attached. I was kinda ok with this precedent years ago when the joke builds had actual effort put into them but these nub riddled snapshits getting almost 1k upvotes really boggles my mind.

Because the RG is much smaller than either MG. It's a restriction of the size that Bandai is working with.

Try being in the eu. First you buy the item then you pay for shipping and when it arrives to your eu member country the customs will hold you package hostage until you pay import tax.
In total you can pay a quater or half more than the original selling price.
>>
>>21748603
I AM in the EU. It sucks ass but importing is still my only option.

I've been using Vallejo Mecha whenever I need to reverse wash something. Their airbrush thinner works well when and doesn't damage the Mr Color coats underneath when I paint things like the Gundam's eyes. Is there any difference between using acrylics/enamels for reverse washing? I also have Tamiya Enamels which I can use for reverse washing but I use them for handpainting details.
>>
If i cant insert the chest vulcans on MG freedom 2.0, does that mean RG isnt for me? This is fucking impossible
>>
>>21748733
You can't use thinners to remove the acrylics (because it'll strip the lacquer under as well). You'll have to resort to using water. There's two ways you can do this, either mix in some retarder or use hairspray prior to acrylic layer.
Enamels can be just wipes off with white spirit, but enamels also take a while to dry and cure and you'll definitely need to clear coat prior if you're using acrylics as a base layer.

Its clean plus the nubs werent even in the piece that connects to the chest armor. Finally got it on after an hour or so. It was just really tiny, if RG kits are like this then I might never try one. Currently I'm eyeing Impulse, Mk-II, Unicorn, and Nu (yeah get mad about it)
>>
>>21748768
All I have to say about Impulse is be extremely careful removing the v-fin from the runner. They placed the nubs at stupid places and it's retarded easy to break. That's the only part of the kit that's particularly small and hard to work with in any way.

I see, thanks for the inputs regarding RGs. Thankfully I never bought one out of impulse and only got HGs and MGs due to having experience in them. I forgot Impulse has the same chest as Freedom so it's gonna have that tiny chest vulcan but even tinier, now I feel relieved that I wasn't able to secure an RG Destiny Impulse
Also forgot to attach the pic, I think it can still go in further according to the pics in the manual and online but I don't know anymore how since it seems only the shorter tip of the vulcan can fit in the armor hole which is already in so I'll just leave it as is. Doesn't look too noticeable anyway also brushed a very little amount of thin cement at the back of the armor so I'll be sure that it won't pop out randomly

Yes. They are pretty much in-universe clown colors. Same thing happens to non-canon clown colors. Clown colors ruin everything.

Hey misters, granddad here, just bought a HG Neo Zeong, what did I just get myself into? Plan to do a nice creatively unadulterated paintjob in simptoki style by blasting jester colours at 49 psi. ledditor autogynephiles and tripfags need not reply

Now that I think of it, OG Qubeley had an HGUC Revive almost a couple decades after the old HGUC. Considering how iconic the Qubeley is, MG Ver.2.0 when? Does Bandai have to be such a doomer about non-gundamtype mobile suits?

SMP kits are basically going to be pretty much the same as any other Bandai kit, though the plastic will be a bit different

I can definitely recommend the Riesen-Panzer, I've built the IV and it's one of my favorite non-Gundam kits I've built. Real nice character to it design wise.

just because you think about trannies all day doesn't mean I want to too.
simply ignoring them is the best course of action, as most right based reactionaries only further pad their support by providing them "victim status."
doesn't belong in a gunpla thread.

2.0 Qubeley seems likely, if a somewhat old All Gundam Poll from 2018 is to go by. In the years since the poll results (pic related), Strike Freedom got an MGEX, Zeta Gundam got an MG Ver.KA, Freedom Gundam got an MGSD, and the Nu Gundam got a Real Grade, RX-78-2 got a whole bunch of Gunpla, an Entry Grade, and a pricy Metal Structure toy. MG Qubeley Ver. 2.0 seems likely, but Bandai is too busy with MGSD at the moment.

Side tangent, since Bandai is planning on reissuing the Metal Structure Nu Gundam, I doubt the Nu Gundam is getting a PG any time soon. However MG Nu Gundam Ver.2.0 seems highly likely. Ever since the vintage 1988 kit, there has been a MG nu every 12 years (MG Ver. 1.0 in 2000, MG Ver. Ka in 2012). 2.0 Nu is most likely going to see a 2024 release.

Seems like the Qubeley made a big impact for how little screentime she got in Zeta. Seems like Bandai initially underestimated how popular the Qubeley wound up being, since the 1/220 kit from March of 1986 (around when the ZZ animu started airing) was the only Gunpla Qubeley ever got until the HGUC in 1999 (a whopping 13 years since the vintage Z Gauge Qubeley).

At least there was the vintage 1/144 scale B-Club kit, and Qubeley getting more screentime in ZZ.
>>
>>21749406
Qubeley MGSD would be a better choice than MG 2.0 because it got only one SD kit and it's older than MG. SD Cross Silhouette would be fine too.

I think the vintage G-Generation kit was the last SD kit of vanilla Qubeley. Before that, there was the Ganso SD Gundam Qubeley. The Ganso SD Qubeley is rarer than the G-Generation kit, but cheaper on eBay (all be it mislabeled as a Gundam SD Superior Defender kit).

As for MGSD, the next kit after Babatos is moe likely going to be either Gundam Astray Red Frame, Wing Zero Custom, Unicorn Gundam, or RX-78-2 Boomer Gundam. In other words, MGSD seems to be reserved for normalfag choices (just like MGEX and PG).

>>21749437
Seconding. Even an EX Standard kit would be better than retroshit.
>>
>>21749164
I'm pretty sure the Ver Ka was following how it looked like in the Unicorn novel.
