which is the superior franchise?
Clearly, Optimus Prime is the better Evangelion.
>>21726907Let's see some sales numbers
>>21726907I need to see them kissing before reaching a conclusion
Which one sell more toys
transformers don't have gay human pilots, AND they can turn into vehicles too. conclusion: big robots WIN.
>>21726907Why are you showing me two Megazords? Everyone knows the best is Front Mission
transformersfags, what's the best way to get into the franchise? I've seen most of the bay movies, but that's about it.
>>21726931Not a Transformers fan but I assume it's production order like everything else
>>21726931the '86 Movie imo. After that you could go Beast Wars, Legend of the Microns (Armada but the japanese version is a lot more coherrent.), Animated, or Prime. the War for Cybertron games are also a good start.
>>21726931Either Armada, Animated, or the G1 series, depending on what it is you are looking for. Just don't touch anything prime or after as your first impression series.
>which is the best brainwash mediumwow so this is the shit ppl think about huh
Transformers is marketed a lot better, more fluid storylines that doesn’t involve colonies from different periods of time, and it’s mostly vehicles and animals transforming than pilots going to fight some war where no one wins.
>>21726958it's the mecha board. why are you surprised and outraged to see discussion about mecha?
Transformers, like Gundam, is basically a series of half-baked reboots suffering from production issues with scattered high points. In the same way that Gundam just endless gundam vs zaku with a masked dude being mysterious, transformers is just "how many more times can we put in quotes from the movie before the eighties kids all die and the gravy train ends?"Like seriously, half of transformers appeal would be if gundam just had every new lead say "even my father never hit me" and the villain replies "no zaku" over and over. This is all rolled up into a multiverse that has its canon edited by a group of gay autistic american wiki editors but written by a fanservice obsessed japanese guy. The movie's fun at least.
>>21726907In the west (at least America) transformers. Everywhere else, gundam. Do japs even like transformers?
>>21727013>Everywhere else, gundampretty sure everywhere that isn't east asia or SEA, transformers are more popular. If you show a gundam character to a kid or an adult alike, both will call it a transformer
>>21727013You've been on /m/ too long. I'd argue that Transformers is more popular globally than Gundam is. Think about how much money the fucking Bayfilms made. And yes TF is popular in Japan (or rather was before Takara let Hasbro run most everything) They did 3 original G1 shows that never even made it overseas, two Beast Wars OVAs and ran the ship with Car Robots/RID2001 and the Unicron Trilogy. Gundam still wins popularity in Japan, it's their Star Wars or Doctor Who in terms of sci-fi cultural phenomenon. But Transformers is pretty big globally.
>>21726931The G1 movie from 1986 sells you on the appeal of Optimus Prime in under five minutes, and pretty much all of the important franchise lore comes from it. After that, Animated is highly recommended, as is Prime. Beast Wars has dated 90s CGI, but if you're okay with that then the story and characters are top tier.If you're someone who reads books, try and find the Prime novels. Exodus in particular paints a really compelling picture of how the Autobots and Decepticons became who they are, and Megatron especially gets his best characterization in it. The books are in the same canon as Prime and the War for Cybertron games.
>>21726933Nah Transformers is a bit odd as you get a lot of fully self contained start points to jump off on and even then stuff like Beast Wars when it brings up original Transformers stuff does a decent enough job explaining context that it's perfectly fine standing alone without needing the G1 stuff for deep background... well for as deep as G1 TV wasAlthough G1TV well it was circling the drain a bit near the end although Headmasters tend to ruin anything it touches so yea...
>>21727028>The books are in the same canon as Prime and the War for Cybertron games. They're actually three separate universes. Having them be a shared universe was the intention, but it very quickly didn't pan out and Hasbro officially dropped the idea.
>>21726931The best way is watch nothing and just buy 3rd party masterpieces
>>21727854>>21726931You can actually watch the entire G1 cartoon on youtube straight from hasbro. Whether you'll enjoy it without the nostalgia is another matter.
>>21726907I love Transformers as my first /m/ love along with Power Rangers but I gotta go with Gundam because I don't like how Transformerse has to constantly reinvent itself these days with the same casts
Transformers was my first exposure to mecha. The first series I was a fan of and I still collect Transformers to this day.I've seen one Gundam series.
>>21727013>Do japs even like transformers?Niche interest especially among younger generations but it has a really diehard fanbase among that few
>>217281623rd party masterpieces are now 90% slavishly toon accurate, $300+ pricepoint, and designed so that they steadily disintegrate from being transformed. There's no reason to buy them anymore unless you're the kind of person who has charts of which company resembles the specific episodes animation errors your prefer.
>>21726926Right because that's what transformers is famous for now. NOT being extremely gay.
>>21726907All mecha everywhere has been woke garbage since day one. If you believe in stupid shit like "burning justice" or fighting nazis, you're the problem.
>>21726933It's hard to say. G1 is where most fans started but it's probably extremely dated looking and feeling now to someone who didn't see it years ago.
>>21728794...yeah?What imaginary world are you getting mad about now?
>>21728909>He doesn't know.I'm sure as hell not gonna be the one to tell you.
>>21728909I'd say about half of the adult transformers fanbase is interested in it solely for fanart of starscream being raped by megatron, and they also both have pussies.
>>21727013>Do japs even like transformers?Did you ever hear about how many Transformers references Trigger put into the Gridman anime? Pretty much every single character had a reference to a transformer toy.
>>21728912Bud I probably know more than you. I also know it's nothing to exagerate or get mad about.
>>21726938I watched Beast Wars in elementary school but never got into the rest of the series. Watched the cartoon movie for the first time the other day and I was pretty blown away by the overall production values and violence of it, “I’LL RIP OUT YOUR OPTICS!”
>>21728925The fans doing something does not equate to the franchise being famous for that thing.
>>21726907but the transformers are not mech they are not being piloted by anybody? or am i outing myself as a newfag here?
>>21726926>transformers don't have gay human pilotsSome do. Masterforce and Headmasters come to mind.
>>21726958how is it brainwashing is not like these shows have an agenda unlike like western shows that are very blatant about their ulterior motives
>>21728956There was definitely an uptick after the IDW comicbook started including all the "romantic" relationships.>>21728957Outing yourself as a newfag. "Mecha" covers a very broad spectrum. >>21728961>"Mecha" covers a very broad spectrum. AI controlled robots and "robotic lifeforms" that appear in Transformers and the Yuusha series are very much covered.interesting very interesting, that means that i can now enjoy the transformers
>>21728957First off, OP never suggested they were piloted mechs. You assumed that part of the post all on your own.Secondly, teeeeeeeeechnically, Transformers ARE piloted mechs. In most media the Cybertronian species are actually Star Trek-style pure energy beings, who use the robot bodies to better perceive and interact with the world. You can even yank the "Spark" out of a Transformer and stick it in a new body. In my pic, the spark is the thing in the belly.
>>21726907I hate talking sentient mechs
>>21728971Why?Liking one over the other, sure. But why go so far as to have hate?

>>21729027>>21729065There's an episode of Beast Wars where a Transformer with an indestructible spark is introduced. Rampage is a cannibalistic mass murder with an exceptionally powerful body and a disregard for which side he's fighting. However, his body is NOT indestructible. Incapacitated after a defeat, Rampage is "recruited" into Megatron's forces by Megatron slicing Rampage's spark in half and placing one half into a torture device.>Impressive. Using an Energon blade on any other spark would have destroyed it. However, it seems you cannot be terminated. An advantage...>Rampage pulls his weapon out>Or is it? Welcome to the Predacons, Rampage. You shall be an honored member, so long as you never forget one important fact about your new life: >It's mine.

>>21741771>implyingHave you've been ignoring half of this board anon?
Gundam has higher quality individual shows but I'd say Transformers was more consistent across its releasesAmong mainline Gundam shows virtually none of the AUs are worth anyone's time, but in Transformers I'd say only the Unicron Trilogy isn't really worth it among mainline releases. The concept of Transformers is incredible too, Gundam can't match that uniformity of appeal across all its releases
>>21744972>He thinks Yuri is woke >He thinks Yuri is woke on the same level as the pronoun police What an absolute newfag
>>21745135Transformers are robots, they don't need to have a gender while Gwtich now has science babies in it and doing everything in their power to make men look awful.
>>21745135Technically is not.Unfortunely, the crowd that attracted in this day and age, surely are, and will make sure to paint as woke.
>>21745153>Transformers are robotssee >>21728968
>>21726907As a concept, I think I like Transformers more, but I also think the japs would do a better job with it.
Transformers was always way more Japanese than it let on. They were providing the character designs (that were smoothed over by Marvel artists), the animation, the toys, and the show was dubbed in Japanese really quickly. Ironically the dubbed version feels more like a proper anime than the JP original continuations. The writing in Headmasters feels so stiff and stodgy compared to its immediate predecessors.
>>21747213>Robots in disguiseJust because they are lifeforms in robot bodies doesn't mean they still aren't robots. I can also guarantee Takara' would call them robots if Transformers was still being made in Japan.
>>21748544Transformers are robots about as much as any given creature in Ultraman is an alien. In fact they're pretty much just GI Joes with all the quirky personalities (and the same voice cast) except Duke never turned into a semi-truck.
>>21748458If the japs had their way they'd never transformpart of the reason for the transformers success is the american car/vehicle culture, their alternate modes are underappreciated by japs
>>21749332bitch what are you talking about. they literally made 50 Masterpiece Skids variants because they love the car.
>>21748544robots who are life forms have been a thing since the start of "robot"
>>21749398>bitch what are you talking about. they literally made 50 Masterpiece Skids variants because they love the car.So? Doesn't mean japan has a car culture
>>21726907Transformers doesn't have a single good show
>>21749575Neither does Gundam really. Best part of Gundam is the OVAs and CCA
>>21748701>>21749538So, does that mean female Transformers can get pregnant since they are life forms and all?
>>21749582>female Transformersno such thing
>>21749585Get off /m/ Furman
>>21749582All the instances of Transformer "pregnancy" that we've seen have been male. (none were actual pregnancies, but clear metaphors)
>>21726907I've been trying to get into Transformers but the only things that don't test my patience as an adult are the IDW comics and the original movie. Gundam despite sometimes being catered to young kids is still mostly for adults. So Gundam is better overall for me
>>21749828animated is pretty good toothough the first story is not a compelling start
>>21726907What's the Transformers equivalent to CCA? When I watch that I can finally answer your question.
>>21749828have you tried *shreds on guitar* beast wars?
>>21749848As someone who's Transformers only, can you describe CCA to me?
>>21749848the '86 movie I guess.
Can a Transformer scan a Gundam and disguise itself as one?
>>21749945Sure, why not. Plenty of Transformers have humanoid alt-modes. Six have had actual human alt-modes. The only issue I'd see is being big enough to pass as a real one.
Ridiculous comparison all around. Also TF will forever be bogged down in comparison to anything else by being a Western property.
>>21749878I've heard everywhere that Beast Wars is really good but the animation seems way too bad for me the deal with. I'll give it shot, but I doudt I'll get into the series that way
>>21749835I'll have to try it out. I just have to deal with it being a zero stakes story since I heard no one stays dead, which sucks for a story about alien battles
>>21750231Maybe it's just nostalgia but a lot of BW's animation still looks passable to me, at least the later stuff does. It should be said BW's CG animation was absolutely cutting edge at the time it was made.
>>21750998Mainframe Entertainment's early CGI (ReBoot/Beast Wars/Shadow Raiders) was LIGHTYEARS beyond other contemporary TV CGI. It still looks good, and I don't understand how people are so weak to avoid a show entirely because of it.
>>21751045reboot was wisely set inside a computer. similar situation to veggie tales or even toy story: they knew they could not make it look realistic so they went as far away as possiblebeast wars attempts to have "real" animals so you constantly get the uncanny valley effect. do trukk, not munky.
>>21751059You don't understand what uncanny valley is.
>>21751085If we plot the industrial robot on a graph of affinity versus human likeness, it lies near the originIn contrast, a toy robot’s designer may focus more on the robot’s appearance than its functions the toy robot is shown more than halfway up the first hilla robot’s arm may be composed of a metal cylinder with many bolts, but by covering it with skin and adding a bit of fleshy plumpness, we can achieve a more humanlike appearance. As a result, we naturally respond to it with a heightened sense of affinity One might say that the prosthetic hand has achieved a degree of resemblance to the human form, perhaps on par with false teeth. However, once we realize that the hand that looked real at first sight is actually artificial, we experience an eerie sensation When this happens, we lose our sense of affinity, and the hand becomes uncanny. In mathematical terms, this can be represented by a negative value. Therefore, in this case, the appearance of the prosthetic hand is quite humanlike, but the level of affinity is negative, thus placing the hand near the bottom of the valley("The Uncanny Valley," Mori, translated by Kageki and MacDorman, 2012)
>>21749575>>21749578Two plebeians>>21751059That's not an uncanny valley lol
>>21751136And the fact that you're trying to apply that to Beast Wars animals shows that you still do not understand what uncanny valley is.
>>21749848CCA is the biggest pleb filter ever created
BW also had a huge impact on the franchise by being the entry that gave us the aforementioned concept of sparks. Something that's carried to every incarnation since.

>>21757531Incorrect. The real pleb filter is Cyberverse.
I always liked how Transformers was a robot society in space where they have their own society and conflicts and shit. And then absolutely hated that they have to crash land on earth and half the show is about some dumb ass kid in school
>>21726931I still stand by the IDW comics, its long and there is a lot dumb bullshit both standard american comic problems and new age tumblr shit inserted sometimes but overall theyre great and wish they would just animate them already

>>21749848As a beautiful piece of cinema, the 1986 movie. As an endless source of debates about what it was trying to say and whether what it was trying to say was actually any good, Beast Machines.
>>21759985i had the same reaction as you but then you have to remember how car-centric USA is. Every family has a car and as a kid you most likely spend a lot of your life being in one. Compare to Japan, where most kids usually walk to school or take the train (Are there school buses in Japan? I honestly don't remember ever seeing a picture of a japanese bus in general, surely they buses?)
>>21760659Regular buses exist. School buses are typically not a thing but are not completely unknown.
>>21726907I'm new to Transformers and I love how 1/2 of the franchise lore is literally just knowledge about the actual toylines. It's fun. Collecting puzzle robots is fun, bros.
>21726926>21741771Why can't these terminally political Americans fuck off into the thunderome
>>21760659The other guy's assumption is only an American helmed series would let the characters be in car mode because they have no car culture in Japan even though lots of the Japan first shows had a bunch of car-centric action. If anything the most heavily American Transformers shows like the Machinima and Netflix series were pretty light on transforming. Let's not get into how bad James Roberts was about this too. If anything it was foreign car companies that wanted money for each and every use of their vehicles that hampered Transformers.
>>21726907>Both still haven't done a proper crossover with Kageyama singing their theme song>Meanwhile Gridman had a crossover with Diaclone>>21761547>If anything it was foreign car companies that wanted money for each and every use of their vehicles that hampered Transformers.Gyrozetter had the correct ideo to at least have quite a number of their cars be completely made up so they can have a safety net at the very least.
