Got a challenge for you guys. Clear any route of last raven using just the starting credits. Had a close shave here.
>>
>>21567267
not a good challenge, desu
heavily favours tanks because they’re cheap, don’t take boosters and mitigate the lack of otherwise expensive mobility by just taking less damage, so you’re basically just buying weapons
meanwhile a lighter build needs investment in 3 parts just to not die
>>
>>21567293
>Weapon arms only + [reverse joint legs only]
>Hover legs only + [Bilbo/Green Witch mode: energy weapons only]
>Tank legs only + [Barchetta/Karma mode: grenade rifles, grenade launchers, howitzers only]
>Quad legs only + [Rim Fire/Bullet Life mode: machineguns and chainguns only]
>Starting generator only, no limiter release + [no energy pack extensions, no generator capacity optional part]
>Starting booster only, no tank or hover legs + []
>Shop ban after you earn any credit/part + [total shop ban, no karasawa, no moonlight]
>Spread shot weapons only + []
>ND weapons only + [ND FCS only]
>No visible lock weapons + [no blades]
Was thinking about some challenges, square brackets are additional rules. Criticism or suggestions welcome.
>>
>>21567305
challenges that are actually about being challenging and depend on skill:
>ND weapons only + [ND FCS only]
>No visible lock weapons + [no blades]
>blades only
>light only (<3800?)
>low cooling limit (so you have to mind the heat rather than picking high cooling parts while using a starting radiator)

building challenges I’m not sure about, I feel literally nobody uses hover legs outside of designated water missions, so that might be one

otherwise recreating cool concepts/mechs from other media that don’t make sense in AC and trying to beat certain hard missions might be cool

>ND weapons only + [ND FCS only]
Kind of pointless, all campaign ACs have flawed AI. All you need to do is backpedal away and they'll abandon their movement patterns in favor of re-entering their programmed range in the fastest way possible, ID boosting forward. You'll notice a ton of vids where the other guy just builds a fast but sustainable AC to just backpedal away to trigger this. At that point, lockbock size becomes a null factor.
>No visible lock weapons + [no blades]
Also trivialized b AI leashing for ACs, and then pulverizers and leviathans are very easy to hit. At best the most challenging targets are those sand burrower MTs and jets.
>blades only
Challenging, although a blade only run has been done with AI exploit. IIRC the jack O route done by cow.
>light only (<3800?)
Not as hard as you think. The best generator is already extremely light, and a non OB lightweight can get away with hazel and never worry about overheating. From there it's just a matter of brining an ammo efficient gun like the shadow or the R2
>low cooling limit (so you have to mind the heat rather than picking high cooling parts while using a starting radiator)
Same as above, a low calorific value is the biggest factor in heat and that can be accomplished with just the lotus, even the g91.

Honestly, the best way to make last raven hard is to remove the option of backpedalling. Obviously very hard to enforce, but actually forcing players to actually deal with AI strats by tracking them instead of tricking them to boost forward would increase the challenge by a lot.
>>
>>21567398
Doesn't have to be specific to LR. I've tested some of the challenges in AC2 and 3, GL tanks can be created before the first mission/arena match and it's pretty fun since you'll struggle to break even on many early missions.
>>
>>21566882
I'm just a noob who is a sucker for intro/starter mech builds. There are lots of videos on the custom stuff but the sentimental value just isn't there for me.

New rule [no weapon arms]
>>
>>21567406
Off the top of my head, a universally difficult way to beat the 3rd gen games is Pile bunkers. Ammo might be an issue so I guess early third can have left guns since they can't lock on. While late third can maybe have pile bunkers + blades?
There are still exploits of course, but there might be some honesty in there, specially if you use the low damage high ammo piles.

There's no need to aim for difficulty only, I see it as an incentive to get out of one's comfort zone and try new setups.

>Karasawa: Yes, it is. And we're still struggling with that. But we want to be very careful here, because if we make certain components clearly superior to others, then we'll end up in a situation where there's a single "strongest loadout", which we want to avoid. On the other hand, if they all have the same parameters, it will be boring. The trick is making sure the function of each mech part has its own pluses and minuses… so yeah, it's very tough.

Nice anon, do kinds of brushes also matter when doing paints? I kinda want to have a brush similar to yours just so I can replicate that powerful texture
>>
>>21568080
>do kinds of brushes also matter when doing paints?
Not really, they help you to save time on details but you can do pretty much anything with a round brush and apropiate pen pressure. I'm just to lazy to bother searching for brushes and I dont want to depend on them.

In this case is just the default oil brush I use on CSP. And about the texture, maybe you are refering to a noise filter I add on top of the picture in overlay mode. Some people dont like it but I think it looks dope.
>>
>>21568092
Yeah, I’ve heard great things on using the oil brush. Any settings you’ve tweaked around the brush so it can be nice for both new and veteran artists? Or it’s highly dependent on how much pressure you apply when brushing?
>>
>>21568121
The gimmick of the oil brush is that it will always blend with the color you are applying on top off. For example if you apply white on black you will get grey and if you want just pure white you press the pen harder(or do multiple strokes). In this caseI just lowered the oppacity to 85% so I can blend without using the blend tool. This video talks more about it. https://youtu.be/xJ_22hZaDbk

This is a misleading and confusing post that requires diagrams and some intro to computer science/engineering knowledge to break down.

Because on one hand if you're willing to break compatibility then it shouldn't slow down because of the sheer compute power you can devote to the task. On the other, doing that can introduce unintended behaviors, and so it's better to design emulators to preserve performance limitations so that shit doesn't become unstable even if it results in stuff looking like it runs poorly relative to the hardware it executes on.

What does the jp wiki when it talks about “axis” weapons (軸武器)? Some entries note a weapon being strong because it “ignores axis”, and I have no clue what that means? Are they hitscan?
>>
>>21569135
Which gen?
>>
>>21569135
You know those times when you have a really big FCS and you get a lock while your bot is technically pointed at a bad angle? You push square and your gun shoots... straight ahead instead of at the target that's in your 8 ocklock positon? You knew it was a fucked up angle but your lockbox PROMISED that it had a capture so you pull the trigger anyway.
That's when your gun is off axis. In first gen some guns will ignore this to an extent and still get a bead despite your ACs position. That's an off axis weapon. This was later fixed in later gens where the capture wouldn't register a lock if your AC wasn't in an angle, and then further on when lockboxes were temporarily removed we got the maneuverability stat which also influenced what angles your arm couldn't physically follow what your camera was seeing.
>>

Weird example because most 16-bit games have easy to emulate slowdown in my experience. Super Ghouls and Ghosts chugs just as hard in an emulator as it does on native hardware. Metal Slug 2 is nearly unplayable due to slowdown which was fixed in X and can also be romhacked out. It took a romhack similarly to remove the slowdown in Gradius III snes (again, present in both the original and on emulation).

I dunno if Star Fox's fx chip makes emulation of it more akin to a fuckin' ps2 game where the speed can go bonkers.
>>
>>21569273
It comes down to where you fall on speed of execution vs accuracy of execution.
Though I like to think we've long since moved past the need for hacky code that sacrifices accuracy for speed.

Mind you when I think emus, my mind goes to the extremes of ZSNES and MAME which are far from ideal reference points.

1. Having him in #1 on leaderboard was a nice subtle way to introduce him early.
2. He has Karasawa and shoulder grenade launcher which are the most iconic Armored Core weapons.

Duckstation uses one memory card for each game by default. There's an option to make it shared for every game.

You can do this by loading your AC savedata ingame, then change the memory card setting to shared for all games, then save INGAME again and you'll be able to import normally to Project Phantasma.
>>
If you were an actual Raven assembling your AC and you knew you are going to die if you fuck up, how would you assemble it and use it?

I would go for the best defense biped/RJ, a bazooka, one of those missile launchers that fires 4 per lock, a shield, and an OB core to get the fuck out of there when I have to, then slowly peek around corners with just the bazooka sticking out and let the fcs do the work.

Underweighted heavy biped. Technically middleweights can achieve the highest AP to speed ratio, but I want enough stability so I don't get staggered by shit like back mounted grenade launchers.
Full arsenal too so I can fight safely in all ranges, preferably with missiles so I don't tunnel vision while aiming and fall into the ocean or some shit. If my AP drops below 50% or I get yellow head/legs and I cancel the mission. I'd get a partner but lets be honest, It increases the chances that you'll be betrayed or become a plot point so the badass raven can 1v2 you.
Also, I would probably never work for kisaragi, fuck bioweapons and fuck experimental tech. No spooky ancient underground facilities for me either, I want the open ground where I can see the horizon and have multiple avenues of retreat. Also, I'll probably keep my head down so I don't appear in any bounty hunter shit lists.

This build needs more EN def but other than that, it's a very cool and stable crest design. What's the internals?
>>
>>21572028
Actually, its got more EN def than Shell def, though both are still low for an HWB. Internals are pretty standard, F37H because its a missile focused build, Lotus/Ananda/Gull because cqc is inevitable and I won't suffer the humiliation of dying to noob boiler setups. Speed at the start of the match is 360mph, not great but it's AP gouged so it has the defensive initiative for most match ups and gets to play the poking game. HNM and 3MV gets purged if its a low ceiling map or if it's fighting an all in rushdown build, speeding it up to 420mph and finally the RMT and the SMT get purged when pistols start being drawn and it becomes a 485mph bot with likely a half full BP and a fresh 69H.
Again its a very lame and poking oriented build that will try to steal or at least trade damage. Not exactly a thrilling machine to pilot but of the builds I play, this feels the closest to an "I'm not going to die for big corpo" machine. If the Raven occupation was real, It'd probably work well for security gigs or as rear line support.

Welcome to armored core baybee, lockbox dodging the cpu at long range is futile (a bad habit against people, but hey, you gotta play the matchups). Grenades and laser cannons are airburst, they're designed to explode at the point where the FCS expects you to be, and all it takes is one flake of that death pinata to deal damage and stagger, even through thin walls. Your best bet is to fool the fcs even before it shoots by increasing your twitchiness. I'm talking one tap of the opposing strafe button whenever you choose to move in the other direction. You gotta do this whenever you're in combat distance of another AC. When you sense the death orb coming, you swerve hard or maybe let yourself plummet, but generally keeping a lot of shit between you and the other guy would help prematurely explode it.
>>
People should at least try every type of weapon once in every AC that they touch and become interested in.

>>21574470
That technique works better by tapping boost too, enemy AC's FCS will think you'll boost all the way to where it predicts you'll be, and even better if you're bunny hopping. Later one will require you to give yourself a jumping rhythm to make it shoot above you rather than the floor because you might catch a whiff of the fireball.
>>
Moving from AC2 to AC2AA why does everything feel so shitty? I can't explain it but everything just feels shitty now. My FCS can't lockon for more than a second. I seem to run out of energy faster. I don't have enough ammo to deal with even some of these early game missions. I carried over my AC2 build and cleared the arena and everything. Why does this game make me feel like my parts just aren't working? Were there a bunch of stat changes or nerfs?
>>
>>21570256
AC version of what? Shitty video recording?
>>
>>21573591
>ACPP arena
Just wait until you play the next game lol.
Anyways use maps to your advantage. Some opponents that buzz around too much can ring themselves out. Call it cheap if you want, I call it punishing an opponent that can't control themselves properly.
You can layer on the defense and try to outblast them depending on who it is you're fighting.
Use missiles. Missiles are very strong in Gen 1. Equip the Option Part that makes them auto-fire on lock.
Don't be afraid to be patient and run away. Enemies can run out of ammo just like you.
And as others have said don't fly up in the air in a fight like this. Learn how to bunny hop and juke the enemy FCS.
Tank tread heavy hitters are some of the biggest pains in the arena. Even all of this advice might be useless to you. Just keep trying.

the dual laser rifle in MoA tended to miss with one beam, but in LR all the projectiles are so tightly grouped they might as well just be one projectile for hit efficiency

Anyone got any confirmed sales numbers?
I always said 2 was the most popular game by far, but I’m surprised to see 4 so far benind, given how loud the fans are
>>
>>21575170
Does this take into account every console the game released on though?
>>
>>21575177
you can see which consoles the numbers are for in the image, anon
>>
>>21575170
Its less loud that it has more newer fans. PS and PS2 AC may as well as be impenetrable to a ton of newer people. 4 is also way more cinematic so you have a lot of fans who adored the series from watching variations of AC[MAD]xXFallXx and [AMV]No.39.
>>
>>21575183
so the numbers combined for 4 would put it in third place, I don't see how that's "so far behind"

>I don’t see how 1/2 is far

>>21575190
keep in mind there was a massive time gap between those and inflation is a thing, wasn't Japan coming off a massive economic high back when 1 came out? Also games used to be more expensive back then
>>
>>21575194
I don’t even know how to respond to this
>>
>>21575159
Looking at the laser rifles, there's really no reason for them to be dual aside from them running out of ammo quicker, which is arguably an advantage. Like, the Skull2 is basically a Shade2 with some increased numbers (so long as you're always hitting with both shots) but drastically less ammo. But they're both a bit too heavy for the damage they're putting out and wreck your energy bar.
As for the pulse rifles, ignoring the part where the Roc4 invalidates the rest of them, it can damage race the rest of them but again will demolish your energy bar and you will really feel it on something as quick as a pulse rifle. But as far as raw damage and damage per weight it's on the upper end.
The dual plasma is a lethal joke weapon.
>>
>>21575184
>PS and PS2 AC may as well as be impenetrable to a ton of newer people
I keep seeing similar sentiment expressed, but I honestly don’t see how it’s true. AC isn’t even mechanically deep enough to be compared to mainstream western rpgs, let alone the popular autism sims, it’s just obtuse in the sense that the games outright lie to you with numbers either because From is disorganised and the various teams/individuals don’t communicate, or they just make shit up to make the assembly design choices appear more meaningful than they really are.
And then there’s the fact tanks exist and basically eliminate all need to consider anything but what weapons you want.

I kind of like the idea behind some of them. Basically something rebels would use as a trump card.against a technologically superior enemy or as a plaything by someone who gives zero fucks. Though I think the mass blade is stupid when out of chief's context. In chief's case, he just happened to have an AC capable of ripping terrain off the battlefield, in your AC's case, well, its kinda looks dumb that you'd need to strap a cement and rebar weapon on it. At least the other improvised looking ultimate weapons look like they're existing tech repurposed in a very deliberate way.

There's a misconception among people that it's about training which is wrong. Its more of an obstacle course to play through and mess around with. Basically kind of like those eliminator maps from quake 3. Basically, if you like PvP then it's good enough that the late third gen camp is divided between NB and LR. If you like single player arenas, it was allegedly pretty good too. If you just want a play through for the story, then there isn't much other than one reveal at the end where you get ganked by nineball after an obstacle course on your way out of the facility and they reveal it's just a copy. Paraphrasing, its been like a decade since I played it, but basically, they remind you that pilots like you needed to be trained because there's a threat like it out there so you need to be ready.
100% your choice, but there's the impression that you can mess around with all sorts of builds for certain challenges, but at the end of the day there are only a handful of optimal choices if you want the maximum score. Again, non combat, nothing at stake, no grand plot. Probably a nice break from the grim darkness of nexus, but that's about it.

You can play all of V's main missions sequentially without touching a single side mission (in fact all the main missions take place before the side missions in the timeline).

Your manager is suspiciously manipulative and constantly hovers this promise of revenge over your nose to keep you in line. You do a mission for your sponsor without your manager's knowledge or blessing. In doing so you encounter a scientist that your manager doesn't want you to meet. From here life becomes a tug of war between increasing your prestige in the arena, satisfying your sponsors and pursuing your scientist friend's curiosity. In the end you learn that everything, even you is being subtly manipulated by an omnipresent AI.

>>
>>21578391
Well uh... at the end of the day that's pretty much it isn't it? You shoot at helicopters and weak robots with the occasional jobber. Just like in any other AC except its the dialog, pacing and the conspiracy that ties shit together. Next time you'll tell me that resident evil 1 and 2 are bad games because all you do is shoot at zombies, dogs and birds.
>>
>>21578396
you’re being retarded, stop
there are memorable missions, like the ones where you’re murdering civvies to draw out the robots/ac to shoot, chasing trains, clearing obstacles for sandra bullock, sneaking past helicopters, shooting from inside a plane through a half closed bay only to be dropped into a sandstorm, climbing a building from the outside to clear out floors, fighting over water while being bombarded with missiles, etc etc
those missions are memorable because they aren’t just walking down a conveniently AC sized corridor
I don’t give a shit if the corridor I’m walking down is totally a part of an ancient unknowable culture, or an ancient unknowable AI, or an ancient unknowable alien AI culture
the corridor is not memorable because an email tells me it’s actually super important
>>
Ugh... this guy doesn't know what he's talking about! No more (You)s for him!

RE1/2 are puzzle games, the zombies are just there for the tension, the game design is to avoid the zombies while exploring the map and figuring out the puzzles, not shoot them. If the games were shooters, yes, they would be shit.

I really liked Silent Line. After going through AC3 and escaping from your huge under ground city, it was cool to find out there were other similar places. Especially since there was a huge impassable area leading to the place, and those crazy white robots started showing up trying to stop you. It was all very mysterious and I liked it.

Anything below 3.5 is just boost hop near the enemy and press circle with varying levels of magnetism. Lighter the AC the better the magnetism moves you toward the target.
On 3.5, ground go ground and air to air are the only ones with tracking. Closer the better. Air to ground is still possible, but you better know exactly where your AC needs to go for the blade to interact with your target.

In what games? I'm still in Gen 2 and melee feels very impractical unless I run out of ammo. The tracking feels literally broken and nonfunctional in the air, and grounded melee does reduced damage.
I just originally posted about wanting that part for the inevitable enemy ACs that have H+ shit activated and constantly fly behind me. Or does AA not have any enemy ACs as bad as the previous games' arena opponents?

>>
>>21580859
LR is the only game where you need to play optimally, everything before that is a cakewalk, and a good blade (moonlight or the other one) makes a lot of enemies a joke. AA especially is really easy to go blade only for the most part. Stop being fat and/or bad at the game, the enemies barely even move in 2nd gen, ACs included.
You are really in for a rude wake up in 3rd gen if you can’t stay on top of them.

Like, imagine fighting in that little dome colony with the little houses from AC2 while using LR mechs. That city where one player starts from a highrise while another under a bridge? Sick!

Huh back in the day I was totally unaware of the reference of ACV also dropping a Nineball/Leos Klein PUROGRAMU ending speech after Exusia, although even that's sort of in a way that would also support V being a prequel to 1 if we didn't have a somewhat complete timeline for the supposed history immediately preceding AC1 that doesn't match up with the time span covering for Answer to Verdict Day.

Putting it that way is a hilarious thought too though, the idea that the shadow organization has been specifically trying to stop one AC from ruining their shit for centuries and no matter what they do it keeps happening bro

V has its own H+ analogue and secret society making super soldiers, they appear in the order missions (turning humans into AI).
also there are dev interviews form 2012 saying V was meant to be a new timeline and not a sequel to any previous game, that was retconned in VD.

Is the LiV the most advanced weapon ever shown in the Armored Core series
>main body is actually smaller than V-ACs, almost small enough to basically be powered armor at around 2-3 meters tall
>posses a Kojima generator and can project Primal Armor which isn't strong enough to completely block out damage but gives it high defenses for something its size
>incredibly powerful weapons mounted on its shield pylons, possessing laser rifles stronger than any of the non-Karasawa rifles
>a Hi-Laser rifle which has perhaps the highest single target damage of any enemy in the game except for N-WGIX's Assault Cannon and Exusia's Boson Drive
