A great action game, really well designed although obscure, Late UC suits, insane music, god tier atmosphere, more Late UC lore, cool main pilot, a great time indeed.

pretty good, especially if you handicap that it was, I forget, either a launch title or near-launch title for the PS2

There's this bit in DW Gundam Reborn where you help Diana learn about the "Dark History" and the during the UC era they have you go up to around Victory/F91 and then make a very pointed statement at how what we know about the Universal Century stops there and then. I don't know if that was an intentional dig at savior, but I laughed when I thought about it.

Poor G-Saviour. If the plot was a little better, you could forgive the silly acting and still enjoy the surprisingly nice-looking CGI. A nice little B-movie.

The plot of the game (post movie) and the audio drama (pre movie) are argually much better. though the novel does add more information. The game itself don't even really need the story and is more it's own thing while around the same time period.

G-Saviour Space Mode is a pretty solid design once you get over the exposed frame on the arms and legs. You get the impression that it's designed for minimum weight and maximum thrust and it has a sort of "we built this with limited resources" look.
>>
>>21569007
It's more or less canon that all factions in G-savior have limited ressources and overall knowledge in mobile suit. Testing shit to see if it works. Almost all of them are made out of scrap, especially the Illuminati suits since the Illuminati is a small group that defected CONSENT.
And even CONSENT ends up splitting in the PS2 game.

If we're being realistic, they would probably be about Z Gundam tier with G1 Saviour being on par with stuff from post OYW cutting edge projects, with the added quirk of some more advanced tech like F91 era shelf thrusters and beam shields that managed to be preserved/rediscovered

"Stronger" is always very subjective when it comes to machines, completely depends on what you're measuring. Is F91 stronger than Zeta? It is definitely faster and smaller, but beam weapons are pretty much ohko no matter what their wattage so the weapon power doesn't really matter, and Zeta has more survivability against physical weapons.

F91 also has beam shields though, which are good for pretty much anything, beam or physical. Except its own VSBR weapons, which can penetrate even those.

G-Saviour was pretty much doomed from the moment they decided the main installment of the whole initiative would be a late 90's, live action, CG-heavy, made-for-tv movie, filmed in Canada, starring Canadians, that would only air in Japan. It was just a bad fucking idea that the budget, tech, and culture weren't there yet to support.

In your mind, maybe but overall, hard no. The film was received quite well on both sides. Just because Sunrise doesn't acknowledge it means squat. nayrt either, but I'll jump in too since I've seen these things posted before. The gist is that they were 1/220 resin kits produced by Atelier Sai, which had a very, very, VERY limited distribution as a pre-order bonus. They do occassionally pop-up on the secondhand market (in fact there's someone selling them on Mercari right now if you've got 70,000 JPY burning a hole in your pocket), but that narrow release was all they were ever meant to get, so they remain very rare

It's in a strange position where the era never was explored or referenced again.
So for now, it's defacto canon, but if they ever go post Victory, they might retcon it, either by reusing Gaia Gear (with the Zorin Soul teased in F90 Fastest Formula) or with something else entirely, because I can't see them re-exploring the G-saviour era again.

>>

>>
>>21597292
Well the events of the movie conclude with the technology behind deep sea farming being free to proliferate, so on paper its completely possible that the food crisis has just been solved at this point. If the Kuntala as an ethnic persuasion really is from G-Saviour, it would be so early in their story that you couldn't really contrive much connection to them at this point. I feel like the Kuntala would have formed from various groups of people recently liberated from pockets of the earth sphere that practiced cannibalism and at this point not even a generation has gone by yet to really birth them as a people. It's also entirely possible that the cannibalism atrocities that created the Kuntala in Reconguista is actually from some point after G-Saviour since Reconguista left it very vague.

>>21598417
My guess would actually be that the Illuminati might be formed from a coalition of previous industry elites formed some time after F91 or during Victory, that managed to preserve a lot of technology and knowledge into the decay of late UC, hence why John Saviour is able to design the Saviour line with F91 grade tech despite using the clearly retrograde RGM-196 as the basis. The preservation of this knowledge could be understood as a source of "illumination" in a dark age.
>>
>>21598446
I honestly doubt it's from G-saviour, I remember Tomino really disliking the movie. I don't think G-saviour is EVER talked in general at Sunrise
Even when the Jordan movie was announced, it was said to be "the first proper gundam movie", putting salt in the injury.
>>
>>21598417

>>
>>21598456
I once asked Sunrise execs at a convention about G-Saviour, they acted like they didn't know what I was talking about and skipped to the next guy

Seems really weird to act that way about it, they could just come out and say "we don't like it, forget about it" or something, especially since they no longer have anything to sell related to it so that won't hurt any kind of profits. Avoiding any mention or statement about it is strange.
>>

>>
>>21598618
Probably means they just really forgot about it, everything involving G-Saviour was only for a year while they had Turn-A Gundam about to be launched
>>
>>21598740
Turn A Gundam was technically part of the same umbrella project as G-Saviour due to 30 year anniversary

but yeah I bet the execs of today probably forgot about it. Management of modern sunrise generally does not seem to give any regard to the west whatsoever whereas the G-Saviour multimedia project was quite clearly a passion project made at the behest of Kojima tier westaboos.

Also, 20 year anniversary, fucktard.

The g-saviour gunpla better be compatible with gunpla scanning and battle, I want to bully kids with my space mode

>Also, 20 year anniversary, fucktard.
yeah my bad but you don't have to be a knob about it

I'm not trying to act like anything I say is definitive, but given the totality of the G-Saviour project it certainly seems like it was made by westaboos

Legit read the production material that Zeonic put out and the robot guys talked about in their podcast. You might actually learn something instead of talking our your ass.

>and the robot guys talked about in their podcast.
you talk like people are supposed to know what this "robot guy podcast" is
maybe don't be a fucking retard that expects every niche bit of information to be common knowledge and just name it
I've already seen a bit of Zeonic's production material translations but those did not seem to be very extensive and the demo pitch footage was only recently released. If you have anything to add why don't you just say it instead of being angry that another bug fact collector doesn't have all the up to date bug facts you have

I listened to that podcast.

The two guys hosting it were actually pretty good, it was nice to hear some informed opinions for once on G-Saviour, but it's probably the only time I'm ever going to listen to their show. Mark Simmons, who they had on as a guest, was insufferable though, absolute blubbering faggot.

Which podcast is this? link to episode?
I'm sick and tired of Gundam grifters on youtube talking about how awful the movie is with the most baseless cookiecutter takes so something else would be refreshing

Podcast is Giant Robot FM, episode is from two weeks ago.

Btw, anybody has Masahisa Suzuki artbook scans? Especially interested in "Tropico" artbook which contains G-Saviour arts.

>F-saviour is named that way, not just because it's named after the Freedom, but also because it's a "fake" Saviour machine.
Is there any more screenshot of it?
>>
>>21601080
No, there's nothing to screenshot, it only appears in an audio drama and the picture you posted is the only illustration of it.

why was the G-saviour 3D animation so meh when this was aired in 1998? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hoXDDcce4i0
>>
>>21606645
5 minutes of animation versus 90 minutes. Put two and two together for that budget, dumbass.

Not to mention the models for GS were done by Canadians. I have found that non-/m/en have a VERY hard time understanding what kind of shapes and proportions make a robot look good.

The movie covers most of it up with cinematography, but some shots really show how badly the modelers do not understand cool robots and what their silhouette should look like

G-Saviour's animation is honestly among the best in the franchise when it comes to making 3D motion look good. This video you posted looks pretty close to G-Saviour but it's clear that G-Saviour had a better grasp on momentum which particularly shines in scenes where the G-Saviour itself is dueling another MS. The Mission to the Rise animation also doesn't have as much dynamicism in the actual range of motion of the mechs themselves; most of the animation is large setpieces and props moving around and the mobile suits making somewhat small adjustments to otherwise static poses. You can see in the scene where the Zaku unloads on that Gundam that's pinned against the wall that the movement is kind of jerky and abrupt but it's subtle enough within the overall context of the video that it still looks good.

Meanwhile G-Saviour has sequences like this:
https://youtu.be/xZQ9vWgAYJo?t=288

You can see at the start of the sequence, the movement of the G-Saviour and the Rai are still a little bit stiff, but immediately after the cut is some of the most natural looking animation I've seen in 3D CG robot movies period. The Mission to the Rise animation is pretty visually impressive for other reasons but for actual mobile suit combat G-Saviour has it beat out by a long shot and even puts more modern 3D CG mecha to shame (looking at you PacRim 2)

Like look at this timestamp, this is better than every single tackle counter animation in GBO2: https://youtu.be/xZQ9vWgAYJo?t=436

>The movie covers most of it up with cinematography,
That's an understatement, the cinematography was phenomenal. I think the G-Saviour's proportions honestly weren't too screwed over by the modeling but Freedom definitely lost out. I mean look at this novel page.

Glad someone else appreciates the animation of G-Saviour, so many retards shit on it because it wasn't zoom zoom Gundam Seed anime ninja robots, but that would look absolutely retarded and break any sense of believable scale in a realistic 3D environment

I can't say for certain, but I get the impression that the CG designers weren't anticipating that these 3D models would appear in static turnarounds in print. They look far better in motion and in dynamic action poses (promo images) than they do simply standing as the movie version is on the left. Sunrise/Bandai could have mandated print publication rights early on, so who knows. Either way, it seems like this was, in earnest, the very first time a western production company of any kind was tasked with producing and animating 3D CG sequences of one of the biggest Japanese mecha franchises, which may have escaped part of the for-hire-crew, so the onus was never on following the line art with 100% accuracy in terms of silhouette and bodily proportions. We therefore got something that was "good enough" to appear in motion but looks a little lacking when displayed in a standing pose. The Atelier Sai/Sunrise Interactive CG model is a lot more impressive, but funnily has its own proportion issues (the side thrusters are huge and I dislike how high the waist is, ironically I think the in-game model is the best the G-Saviour has ever looked).
>>
>>21608333
I think the Atelier CGI models are based on the original G-saviour gunpla in term of scale

for me it's
>Sky of the Setting Sun
>In the Raw

Does the full version of White Stream (White Stream ~Special) ever plays in the game? Since Dear Mother is the credit song. It's not there.
I kinda wish it was the final boss song.
>>
>>21608526
No, it's just a bonus for the CD. I actually prefer some of the instruments used on the in-game soundtrack, for example the piano preset for In The Raw.
