Why are the The Gattai figures even that expensive? Just because they're the "SOC equivalents?" The Da-Garn one doesn't even have a waist swivel even though they still bothered to give you "proportion parts". Should have done something like the Gravion Moderoid kit where the swappable parts give the figure extra articulation. And I don't buy the excuse that it's because of the anime accurate look - even the SMP Draias has waist articulation despite the potentially hindering part of the animation design being his actual stomach and codpiece.

Never watched Goldran before and I decided to try a couple of episodes. I was initially taken aback by the art style and the wacky presentation, but the mecha designs kept me interested and the cast's antics won me over. Walter is actually a very likable villain if there is even such a thing. This is a very good show.

So apparently over on reddit, someone is translating or at least trying to translate ps2/3 games. Doubt anything will come out of it though
Finished building the RG Gaogaigar and I have to say the kit could have been so much better if they designed the helmet and the lion's mane differently. Basically every other version of Gaogaigar, both model kit and full figure, has the mask be an inseparable part of the helmet which is much easier to deal with. In this kit the mask is only retained by the red bits on the sides of the helmet that themselves like to come off too easily. Then they wanted you to rely on Gaigar's nose and chin to provide additional grip while installing the mask but it doesn't actually work like how they envisioned it, because Gaigar can't really look up after he has the Gaogaigar helmet on, and you still have to fight with the articulated "spine" gimmick. The lion's mane uses a mechanism similar to the Pose+ figure but has nowhere near the same flexibility and strength or even practicality, and you eventually have to cheat it by changing the position and movement range of the holding armature, which defeats the whole point of designing the mane mechanism to transform like how it does in the show.Also they really should stop using those prefab MG fingers for articulated hands. They come off the ball sockets too easily and moving the thumb too much will cause the entire hand to fall apart.Sorry for blogposting but I really have a love-hate relationship with the kit. End result looks awesome and it can achieve excellent poses but doing anything with it really requires patience.

The knuckle joints are way too tight and moving them often exerts too much force for the ball joint and socket at the root to withstand. Other designers of toys like the 3P MP Transformers etc would prevent the problem by at least giving the ball sockets a retaining cover or designing the palm to not be composed of too many separate pieces like with this kit. It's obvious the designers themselves have low confidence in the MG hands because they made sure to include the Hell and Heaven fixed pose fists.

Been looking at the SMP and GSC options of Braves kits and figures lately, and I noticed that it's becoming common for Bandai and GSC to give "proportion parts" for the final combined forms. This way the bots can fully transform and combine while still giving you the option to make them look super screen accurate by replacing a few parts, most often the heads, hands, thighs and calves. A good example of this would be the Great Fighbird SMP which looks okay stock but becomes much more awesome with the replacement parts. Anyone else using the GGG BD release as an excuse to watch the dub? Before now I've only watched the odd one or two episodes in full and clips of it on youtube, but it's actually not that bad. Like it's nowhere close to the Japanese dub, but for what it is it's perfectly alright. The only voice choices that I dislike are the Narrator's and Hyoryu/Enryu/Choryujin's (Primarily the voice modulation they've got going on for them), everyone else is on-point. Like shit I never thought Kappa Mikey would make for a good Gai.It's also neat to see how the dub developed over time. You get stuff like them starting with "FINAL FUSION AUTHORIZED" but then transitioning back to "FINAL FUSION APPROVED" a few episodes later, and Jamie McGonnigal has a pretty neat take on Penchinon's laugh for the earlier episodes before reverting to a more JP-like BREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. Overall I'm kinda upset that it was left half finished. I would've liked how they handled Arm and the other Primevals.

Subs for Exkaiser I found had different groups handle different batches of episodes. So depending on where you're at in the series it's either King Roader or Loader. I prefer Loader but is there a wider consensus on which is more correct?

Your timeline is off. The GGG dub came out in 2006, when Toonami, Kids WB and Fox were in their death throes and would be cancelled in the next year or so and 8 years after the show aired in Japan and the toyline production stopped in favor of starting up Transformers again. It was way too late to try and make a mech vehicle for kids at that point. Anime for kids in general was basically dying out by then.

To add onto what he said, the 1997-era Takara DX figures would never hold up in the 2006 US toy market. For reference, it was the 2nd year that Transformers Cybertron was on the market and a year after that you'd have not just the first Bayformers to compete with in terms of toys but also the debut of Bakugan. Unless entirely brand new molds were made no kid was going to buy a Gaogaigar whose only decent articulation was in the elbows.
