So...is Mechwarrior 5 worth buying? I've heard some folk say yes, others say no. Should I just wait for a sale, or seek better?
>>20885969It depends on what you want.I play it on the PS4 and I like it but... The story is bland and just sucks. If you do get it, get the Heroes of the Inner Sphere DLC, it's what the game should have been and then it becomes an much more palatable open-ended game. I haven't played played the Kestral Lancers DLC but others say it's excellent but over too quick. MW5 won't knock your socks off, some of the customisation is a bit weird (apparently it's like MWO [I haven't played that either] but with hardpoint size as well as type, so you can't just grab a Centurion and mount an AC/20 on it straight away, which is a shame). But I like it. If you can get it cheap, it's definitely worth it.The engineer character is awful and you need never go to the mech bay unless they tell you to specificially, you can do everything from the console on the bridge. To be honest, the entire interior of the dropship is pointless.I'd give it 7/10 with the Heroes DLC, probably 5-6/10 without.If you're on the PC, apparently there are a number of mods which improve lots of things too.

Giving players a set of premade units to play with is a lot easier to balance than a full customisation system with millions of variables, just look at the current MWO meta. Frankly I think they could cut the number of variants for every unit in half and players would still have more than enough to play around with.
