Finished S1

I wish they unironically left a lot of the world building to develop the characters. The main 4 gets enough, but i feel there wasn't as much chemistry with the bridge staff which kinda sucks because it would make the deaths hit harder. Fell a little flat. I'd cream pie Chris though.

is s2 any better? the show was okay until e17 and then was only "good" the whole way through. felt like they could've done better planning because s1 felt a little all over the place.
>>
>>20835340
2nd season is more character focused and has much less world politics stuff. I thought it just made the show feel more generic and less unique.
>>
>>20835492
You're completely right. They lampshade it in the post by having someone say "bro, they're just fighting for their own feelings" but every single character in S2, both heroes and villains, is just motivated by their wants. Which is fine, but S1 had an interesting detached feel that was sorta unique while S2 was just a less cynical Zeta rehash.

what a waste of a cutie, felt like they didn't know what the fuck to do with her in S2 so they made her unlikeable and with an ugly new look so fans would stop liking her if they already did due to S1. She should have been someone's wife in the end
>>
>>20837743
Exia wasn't damaged (although Lasse and the GN Arms ate shit), but it did use up all of its extra swords, and was low on particles having just come out of Trans Am. On the flip side, the GN Flag was a bit weaker than the GN-X, and those were weaker than a Gundam 1v1, so it's arguably the closest thing S1 had to a fair fight.

Wasn't the GN Flag kind of a piece of shit with that jerry-rigged rotating Drive mount making the whole thing unbalanced? It's kind of a miracle it was even able to take down a weakened Gundam.
>>
>>20837656
But that's only like the first 3 quarters of the show and they really only had a big strategy to fight the Gundam's once. Then they got GN powered suits themselves and just suddenly had stuff that could finally damage the Gundam's.

In S2, she was doing both sides, CB and Ribbons, in an attempt to become an Innovator and ended up getting herself blown up when she decided it was safe to leave with Nena hunting her and refused Setsuna's help. Also Ribbons slapped her. It was funny.

I think the worldbuilding of S1 was its strongest point. Without it, 00 never would've worked. Seeing how the 3 superpowers operated, putting more focus on the people affected by CB's actions helped to really sell the feeling of "the world is changing", that no Gundam series had before or since.
Season 2 does more to develop characters, but its methods aren't the best. Personally, I wasn't fond of any scene that featured Katharon.
Shame about Feldt, though.
>>
I don't know why they made the girls' designs so haggy in S2. Only Sumeragi, because she was already a hag, and Louise, somehow, got spared. I feel like they made their faces too long.
>>
>>20835340
00 is honestly not that great. OP you won't like S2. 00 in general is ok, but really not that great and not offensively bad, so it just sits in this meh great area for me, S1 that is. S2 is just trash lmao

huh?
>>
>>20844474
>>doesn't matter anyways they all mesh into one
It's seeing how the superpowers differentiated, operated, and got to the point of forming the ESF that's important. That kind of context is something UC's Federation sorely lacked despite Tomino's constant preaching about how people don't change and there's always conflict.
Even seeing the effects of CB from the civilian pov, the unaffiliated nations like Azadistan, and mercenaries portrayed in Al-Saachez, all of these things give the setting more life. Sure, they just mesh into one anyway, but all of these things are in service of getting to that.
>>oh and there's like 2-3 other groups that are also trying to control of the world.
That's a cope, it was only one group led by one "guy" manipulating others into doing what he wanted.
>>
>>20843425
She also had a different outfit almost every other scene in S1. Went through many hairstyles too. In S2 she's largely the same.

Odds were heavily stacked against Feldt. She was effectively born into CB, whereas almost everyone else had some semblance of a life outside CB before being recruited. She probably couldn't live a regular civilian life even if she wanted to, and meet non-terrorist/non-autistic/non-Gundam/non-ayylmao men.
On the plus side, she's not the only CB Child with Ian's daughter also in the mix.

With 6 months between May and November, depending on the length of Linda's pregnancy, Ian got her preggers at either 17 or 18 years old. Maybe 2298 tech allows them to birth babies faster without the downsides of premature birth but it's uncertain if Ian even waited for her to be legal before making babies.

They have no baseline idea of what to search for when it comes to innovades since they're basically just humans except genetically enhanced with quantum brainwave ability, and in Anew's case she was brainwashed to act as a sleeper agent with those abilities turned off until needed. Also, she already passed the CB vetting process since she was already working at one of their hidden asteroid facilities before being reassigned to the Ptolmey.

>>20852517
Combat Innovades like Tieria already blend into regular society just fine. Anew just happens to be a specific infiltration-type too. If nobody automatically knew Tieria wasn't human after spending so much time together, Anew would be just fine.
>>
>>20852464
CB has a strange dislike of Taus. They naturally have lots in storage after taking VEDA back from Ribbons and nobody would notice if two Gaga Cannons had no Drives among hundreds of them. The only one who used them was Tieria and the Raphael. I guess nobody wanted to fit them, design whatever additional gear needed, and spew red/orange particles.
>>
>>20853083
Tau drives gave cancer. Although Louise was fine in the movie somehow. Probably because she was already halfway there to being an Innovator.
>>
>>20853083
They already had the real drives, which they could use to fuel condenser to do the same thing as taus. They really just didn't need them.

>>20853398
Orange particle drives are more stable and don't have the toxicity like that.
>>
>>20852517
They didn't check in her pants.
>>
>>20853398
Feddie Tau drives by S2 have improved and don't give cancer anymore (indicated by the more orange glow and beams).

Only Ali still uses the original blood-red Tau drive because he gets off on maximum suffering - like infecting the population of Azadistan while burning it to the ground.
>>
>>20853398
I remember Patrick was on the ground when the Throne Drei was spewing the Stealth Field all over the place, and there were literally particles floating around him. Was it just the beams that give cancer, or is Patrick just immune to GN cancer?
>>
>>20853464
The 00 Rasier had very notable declines in performance in the movie after being fit with condensers. Condensers are batteries to Drives being generators and the Reborns at least proved to use Trans-Am just fine with taus.

In fact, how does the Twin Drive system achieve that squared output? Do GN particles somehow collide and make more under Twin Drives? What difference are there compared two condensers with the output squared, thus draining it just as fast too?

>Do GN particles somehow collide and make more under Twin Drives?
From what I read on the wiki that's basically it.

>What difference are there compared two condensers with the output squared, thus draining it just as fast too?
Pretty much. GN Drives were created to run indefinitely, with the Twin Drive being created to take advantage of that to go far beyond the normal threshold of power produced by a normal GN Drive. Particle Condensers however have a finite source, so no surprise it's weaker.
>>
>>20853398
>Although Louise was fine in the movie somehow.
Louise actually got cured of her red particle poisoning through Setsuna. When he used the Trans-Am Burst it caused the entire battlefield to be covered in GN particles. The GN Particles in question were able to purify the poisonous red particles which in turn saved Louise. This also saved Lasse too because he was suffering from the same issue to a lesser extent.

That just raises questions why they don't use to Taus instead of Condensers. Reborns must be the second strongest S2 mech after the 00 Rasier itself and it had 2 Taus just fine.
>>
>>20894102
I'm pretty sure spec-wise it's actually superior to the 00 Raiser, on top of not needing a jet strapped to its back to keep the twin drive from blowing up. It was entirely the Tau Drives holding it back.
As for why they didn't use Tau Drives, I guess it was just too much of a hassle to obtain and maintain it. Tau drives need their own starter machine to recharge and maintain it, while CB has the originals that have infinite energy supply that they can just use to fill up the Condensers whenever they need to.
>>
>>20894577
The 0 Rasier was just because of synch issues. The Quanta's are specifically made for twin driving so they have no need. Theoretically the Quanta's drives in the 00 wouldn't need any stabilizers.

Strength is not the issue. Purified GN Particles are what's necessary for Setsuna's abilities to reach their peak. GN Tau Drives cannot provide that as their particles aren't as pure as the ones produced by the real GN Drives used by Celestial Being.

They really did Feldt dirty after S1 eh? She had so much POTENTIAL after Lockon's death.

She was clearly very distraught at not being able to directly do anything during the battles and to have her first crush taken away from her should have been enough motivation for her to take on the Meister mantle left behind.

There was enough opportunity in the time gap between S1 and S2 for her to be brought up to decent competency in the piloting department with plenty of room left for growth once S2 proper started.

Would also be kind of poetic how the newbie in the team would be piloting the same Gundam (it's successor really) of the previous most experienced Meister.

This would also have made the budding thing between her and Setsuna a lot more organic. (It doesn't have to go in a romantic direction per say).

And Lyle could have still been in the show in this AU. He could have been initially an enemy soldier in ALAWS and then been won over to CB later on.
>>
Tau drives don't produce energy, they only produce GN particles. True GN drives produce power and GN particles. True drives are also capable of repeat trans-am. Tau drives burn out after a trans-am. Overall, True drives are more efficient and obviously longer lasting. In terms of usage, there is little functional difference between CB's large GN condensers and Tau drives

As to production, the difference between True and Tau drives is the TD blanket and that is the thing that requires the Jupiter production facilities so CB is fully capable of producing Tau drives

The major thing is the Twin Drive technology. Tau drives being capable of that make them worthwhile. CB going multidrive with all of their units (a True drive and twin drive taus) would have been pretty crazy come the movie

As to the squaring of the output with Twin Drive, it's a matter of the field that produces GN particles. GN particles are produced (by the best available theory) as a result of the breakdown of subatomic particles. The squared output is the result of synchronizing those fields to produce a higher than additive result from the combined fields

Other than Graham, Feldt was the biggest downgrade from S1 to S2. She had a lot of random screentime in S1 and all of it really got cut down. Christina's death was horrible for her because she lost a character to interact with and it also didn't trigger any sort of character development. Honestly, Graham was turned into a joke, but Feldt became a literal NPC nothing character.

Honestly this. It's part of the reason why, in SD Cross Rays, I often put Feldt in the Cherudim whenever I sortie out the Season 2 00 Team for a mission. The only thing missing would be a proper pilot suit and maybe a paint job to go along with Feldt's aesthetics.

>CB going multidrive with all of their units (a True drive and twin drive taus) would have been pretty crazy come the movie
I doubt that could have been a thing considering the natural differences between the particles produced between GN Drives and Tau Drives. The electric charge used in the latter means the particles are less pure and thus weaker. Add in the limited run time which makes them deadweight once used up too. For Celestial Being who regularly have to fight outnumbered and fight in prolonged operations, that's not something they can afford to have happen.

There's also the more important matter of how they already very limited resources by the time of the 00 movie. The Zabanya and Harute were both made through recycling the Cherudim and Arios' frames respectively. The 00-Qan[T] was the only mech from CB at the time that was made from the ground up because that was the only one they could afford. They probably couldn't even make Twin Tau Drives if they wanted. Even if they could, they'd need to design whole new mech frame to take advantage of it but again the few resources they had means they couldn't afford it.
>>
>>20897665
Would have made for a decent arc either way. Way better than the "OH LOOK, NEIL HAD A TWIN BROTHER" which is soap opera shit on the level of Gundam Wing's nonsense at least.
>>
>>20897747
>OH LOOK, NEIL HAD A TWIN BROTHER

To be fair, that was established incredibly early on. That being said, I do agree Feldt at least being their Cheridum pilot early on in S2 before they got Lyle would've made a bit more sense than how they treated both of them early on. At least that way, they could've done more with Lyle being a Katharon double agent et all.
>>
I don't care about Feldt becoming a pilot or not, she was a literal non-character in S2. Other than spouting bridge bunny exposition she only has two scenes in the whole show: when she gets sexually harassed by Lyle (who wanted her off his ass) and when she gives the flower to Setsuna. That's literally it. In S1 she had multiple scenes with Neil, the whole subplot about learning to be a normal girl with Christina and then both of those characters that supported her died and instead of using that to spring further development she is just reduced to a voice with no personality. The twin-tail girl has more of a story than her.
>>
>>20897744
Not him but limited resources is an argument to use Taus, given they’d inevitably have tons after Ribbons and every Gaga that didn’t explode would have one. Making adapter technology which everybody else already did from Thrones to GN-Xs is bound to be easier than all the other fancy gadgets. And they eventually did too in the Exia Repair IV. With another drive lost in combat against the ELS and Setsuna not leaving behind his drives before he left, they weren’t going to have everyone share a single drive.

You're over exaggerating the limitations of a Tau drive. The limited run time was more of an S1 issue than S2 and by the movie they are doing prolonged fighting against the ELS. Now, they're certainly limited compared to True drives since those can run indefinitely. We also know that True drives can "top off" Tau drives given them helping the Thrones and Braves, with the Thrones explicitly making use of a True drive as their starter.

As to the limited resources, Tau drives are way easier to produce. Look at how crazy the mass production of them was in between S1 and S2. CB should have easily been able to produce more, or as noted by multiple posters just grab some from Celestial Being before ditching it.

As to having to redesign frames, well obviously. Look at how much Harute and Zabanya got rebuilt compared to Arios and Cherudim. Heck, look at how Seravee got rebuilt for the Raphael, it's certainly within their ability to do so. Then considering the 1 Gundam to Reborns Gundam had the large GN condensers replaced with Tau drives it would seem it should be a really straight forward switch with the data they would have access to from Celestial Being at the end of S2

>As to the limited resources, Tau drives are way easier to produce.
Not as easy as you would think. Celestial Being is sorely lacking in resources by the end of Season 2 as most of their backers like Wang Liu Mei are all dead, so they're basically just scraping by. It's precisely the reason why they needed to recycle the Cherudim and Arios, because outside of the 00-Qan[T] which they essentially poured most of their main resources into creating in order to replace the 00-Raiser, they couldn't really afford to build any new suits. The Raphael Gundam is an exception by the way. It's a brand new suit but Celestial Being didn't build it. It was Tieria specifically who did, and he did so secretly using Federation resources aboard the CB Mothership and combining the MS data of Innovade suits with the Seravee/Seraphim Gundam.

That aside, the point of using Tau Drives is entirely moot. Celestial Being has GN Condensers and in terms of performance they do the exact same thing as Tau Drives except they use pure GN particles which by default are more powerful than particles produced by Tau Drives. So really, CB has no reason to use Tau Drives. One could argue the Twin Drive system, but the thing is that CB actually managed to reproduce the same idea through the 00-Raiser's Twin Condenser system too. It's why Setsuna was able to use Trans-Am Burst against the ELS even though it failed since the particle output wasn't as great as what true GN Drives could muster.

The same could be said for most of the cast. To be honest, I wish they hadn't bothered bringing back Allelujah nor bringing in Lyle. Make it the Setsuna & Tieria show it turned out to be anyway. Give Lasse a grunt unit just so they have some backup. Maybe bring a "reformed" Nene onboard under heavy surveillance for some good ol' "will she/won't she" intrigue.

I really feel the opening of S2 was strong with Setsuna hand-to-hand fighting ALAW drones while trying to escape the prison colony or whatever. More scenarios along those lines would've been nice. Instead it quickly devolved into 00-Raiser spam and some real pointless stuff.

Also glad this threads still around. The world and Gundam in particular needs more chinatits. Preferably of the non-hag variety.

>Celestial Being has GN Condensers and in terms of performance they do the exact same thing
It should be noted that GN Condensers actually have even shorter operational time than Tau Drives. So if you want operation time then Tau Drives would be a safer option. With that said, with an actual GN Drive powering them, it makes GN Condensers the stronger option since one could get more utility over it via the Twin Drive/Twin Condenser system which can only reach its true peak when using pure GN particles which Tau Drives can't produce. If you can get an Innovator pilot then even better because you do shit like short range teleportation and super charged beam sabers the way Setsuna can do.

Also, the Zabanya and Harute weren't necessarily built directly from the Cherudim and Arios as anon here >>20903578 points out. However, they're not necessarily new units either because they're still noted to be recycled from the Cherudim and Arios' design platforms, likely built from refurbished spare parts that CB still had on hand.

>To be honest, I wish they hadn't bothered bringing back Allelujah nor bringing in Lyle.
Allelujah was gonna be brought back regardless because of the subplot with Marie. Lyle though, as fun as he is, is a mistake. The whole secret twin thing feels straight out of a telenovela, and while I get Gundam can be overdramatic as hell, the whole thing feels out of place in 00's setting. Feels more like a subplot you'd get from Gundam Wing instead where it would be right at home.

That aside, they can't get Lasse out there since there'd be no one to helm the ship. Knowing that, the only other potential candidates for Gundam Meisters are Feldt or Nena. Nena has obvious reasons, if only because she wants to avenge her brother's deaths at the hands of Prince Ali, but considering she murdered Louise' entire family that was never gonna be a thing.

That only leaves Feldt, which if we go by her background and the development she receives by the end of Season 1, it's easy to see why some gravitate towards her becoming a Meister because she had the natural setup to become one. The writers only need to capitalize on that potential but unfortunately that could never happen since Lyle was already set up for a while.
>>
>>20910814
>He actually says the old Cherudim and Arios was given to Fereshte.
That's what I was referring to when I said that both the originals Gundams weren't straight up recycled into their successors. Should have made that clearer I guess.

That doesn't make much sense because simulations and tests they've done show that without GN Drives, they can barely spend much in trans am. If it was so much that they can't use them all, how does low trans am time work?
>>

IIRC, 00R doesn't really have a Trans Am time limit. Basic 00 only had a time limit because the drives could blow up without the 0 Raiser stabilising the TDS.

In that came scene the 00 Rasier performed beyond the expected limits however, only by a few seconds tops, which was surprising but their initial guess wasn't too off the mark. It had two functionally perpetual motion machines synched to provide the output of a single GN drive squared and it didn't have infinite runtime. Two Condensers would surely deplete themselves before 3 minutes of nonstop trans am use.

>Allelujah was gonna be brought back regardless because of the subplot with Marie.
Honestly, I thought Allelujah bought it at the end of S1 (Setsuna as well though less like since he was the MC). And my memory may be off but he seemed to have made peace with himself and accomplished his personal mission? Fair enough to either be and stay dead or retire peaceably with Marie. Not as though S2 was kind or any good for their characterizations anyway.

>That aside, they can't get Lasse out there since there'd be no one to helm the ship.
Lasse was said to be a backup MS pilot, no? Makes more sense for him to step up to be one of those and have someone else trained / new to handle the ship. Maybe even Feldt! Makes more sense going from bridge bunny to ship pilot than to MS pilot.

Either way, S2 ended up feeling redundant since it was 4 pilots (the same ones, basically, no less) of super MS vs the world... again! Fewer Gundams and returning characters might've been a boon.

nigger, UC is their main cash cow. The AUs are designed to get kids into Gundam with one 2-4 cour TV series and _maybe_ a follow-on film (not the compilations) to wrap it up.
They're never intended to replace or upstage UC.
Just look at how little development they do to the Cosmic Era, which is arguably their biggest non-UC timeline. After Destiny they haven't bothered to make any major animation projects.

Granted, I also went in knowing stuff like how S2 is like a really cynical take on Zeta Gundam that loops around into some wild optimistic hippie sci-fi madness when Setsuna becomes the GN Kwitsatz Haderach and starts yelling at people to shut the fuck up and UNDERSTAND for a few seconds. >where the fuck did Setsuna get his exia in the last episode
Sumeragi was smart and had the Exia repaired and upgraded in case they needed it.
>>
>>20922826
it's kind of wack you can pretty much just tear out the GN Drive and stick it into a compatible slot just like that, without a single actual engineer involved
>>
>>20922837
I mean it was the 0 gundam's gn drive

He was fortunate enough to have sawn off the exact one used by the 0 Gundam. Ribbons himself said it was fate. Now if things were reversed, it'd suck. Evil Amuro would need extra effort to make his RX-78-2.work.

Thankfully, the 0 Gundam was there too. After 00I, Ribbons clearly has the 1.5 in storage. Had he retreated and given enough time to install the GN Drive into it or another 1 Gundam, it'd be a much tougher fight for Setsuna.
>>
>>20922874
man, I gotta get started on the 00 mangas. 1.5 gundam looks cool as fuck
>>
>>20835730
That was the point. Celestial Being were all trying to find themselves with their reason for being having been stolen from under their noses by Ribbons
>>
Will 00P ever get translations?
>>
OP here. Finished it. I liked the movie generally but it does feel a little rehash. I wish the aliens were literally just kill hungry. At least Setsuna got that prime GILF PUSSY at the end.
>>
>>20923789
In general. The series feels very up and down. There's a lot of empty subplots, too many characters and way too much focus on shit that gets hammered for way too long. Can't wait for s3.

Wrong. Ribbons picks up Exia's GN Drive.

Why do people make fun of Marina when Feldt got cucked harder?

If I were either Feldt or Tieria, I would drain all the cum from Lockon every night. That guy did so many things to me.

based
If I was Sumeragi i'd have made sure all the pilots knew how appreciated they are
>>

Honestly she had her chance. She's known Setsuna for most of her entire adult life but did nothing because she was lusting after Neil.
>>
>>20927321
Given he was lost inbetween S1 and S2, there's at least half a decade of Setsuna cozying with his Exia. She had no chance.
>>
>>20835340
Will we ever get EXA translations?
>>
>>20835340
My problem with Gundam 00 for me was that the pilot skills just seemed shit. They have the best mechs in the world and they still got fucked.
>>
>>20928797
They were up against the best pilots in the world against the S1 GNXs to be fair. Tieria and Setsuna were pretty bad initially. Setsuna got better to emphasize his innovator powers and the 00 Raiser's strength, while Tieria stayed pretty bad, but got more reckless as he became less of a robot. I don't have much of an opinion on Allelujah since he doesn't do much, but the Lockons seemed consistently capable.
>>
>>20928797
To be fair the plan basically involved overpowering the world through technical superiority, not how good each individual pilot is. Also depending on your take on what Aeolia's original plan was, in theory the world was going to either unite peacefully under threat of armed intervention from Celestial Being, or they were going to unite under a military alliance to bring down Celestial Being together. If the latter was what Aeolia intended, then CB can't be too good at their jobs otherwise humanity is going to end up taking losses and sacrificing too much just to beat Celestial Being.
>>
>>20928827
I'd argue Allelujah was the best of the CB pilots in S1, but then the 'death' of Hallelujah and a general lack of screentime nerfed him pretty fucking hard in S2 until the end.
>>
>>20928889
oh yeah, HAllelujah is the best overall by far, but when it's just Allelujah it just feels he floats around shooting things or flies around firing missiles.
>>
>>20928894
Pretty much, unfortunately.
The 00 game for PS2 had a Al vs Graham duel, which I don't recall happening at any point in S1, and would've been cool to see since they both pilot high speed transforming suits. I know Graham was mainly a rival for Setsuna, but Graham did go against Lockon once or twice.

Have a prototype bias so i prefer it more than the Exia. Old as shit but can still fight on par with newer suits is cool

Neil and Lyle seem to be consistently really good, especially Neil. You'd think that Ali, close-range specialist that he is, in a close range oriented mech would beat them but both manage to get the better of him while in a long ranged mech. One-eyed Neil likely would have killed him if it weren't for Daryl. And neither used Trans-Am too.
>>
>>20929538
Special Edition makes Neil look even more badass. He already used Trans-Am and was fighting Ali while on low power
>>
>>20852517
Lyle came off like he had a gut feeling at one point, maybe not that Anew was some engineered superhuman but at the least that she was a plant for some other group's whims.
>>
>>20929550
Really says how skilled he was. One eye, can't snipe or go long range, going close range against an enemy specialized in close range, and he almost wins.

>>
>>20929701
It's kinda hard to tell how much of it was Ali just toying with him until he lost the arm and got serious. But the missing eye definitely fucked him over hard, and he wouldn't have gotten kamikaze'd by Daryl or blown up by the fangs at the end if he could actually see shit.
>>
>>20929701
Neil was an extremely skilled pilot and his close quarters skills are undervalued by a lot of people. Considering he was able to at least hold off Graham and fight Ali shows he was a real all-rounder while being a stock standard human
>>
I just realized that the tactics the GN-X II Cannon and Sword used against Fon was rarely used elsewhere.
