I've still never gotten a good idea of how fast and agile a Crisis Suit is supposed to be, considering they're supposed to be rapid-response heavy weapons units. They just look too bulky and top-heavy to be anything but lumbering Boston Dynamics-type robots just awkwardly swinging around weapons.

>>20807087The best Western Mecha /tg/ is Heavy Gear. Which I typoed "Heavy Gar" appropriate XD.Unfortunately, Dream Pod 9 the company that makes it is not long for this world. They have been dying a slow death of neglect, mismanagement, creative flight and being CONSISTENTLY fucked over by their Licensors at every turn.I do recommend downloading Heavy Gear 2nd edition books from DriveThruRPG while you still can. IMHO, it's the best Mecha RPG. It has consistent mechanics between personal and mecha scale combat and is way faster and more fluid than Battletech.
>>20913804When I say screwed consistently, I mean CONSISTENTLY. It's uncanny. They had a good run with Activision releasing two very good FPS/Mech-sim Hybrids in Heavy Gear and Heavy Gear 2, but then everything started to go wrong.First, Sony approached them about making a 3d animated Cartoon series. The original plan was to start the show with Mecha combat sports, then pivot to a plot about fighting Invaders from Earth. DP9's creative team were promised creative collaboration by the studio.First half of the series went fine, but when it was time for the show to pivot from Mecha Combat sports to a war drama, suddenly Sony's executives got cold feet. The scripts for the remaining episodes were scrapped, DP9 staff were locked out of the studio and the rest of the season had to be filled in with rushed scripts. To this day Sony have the Heavy Gear IP in a death grip. Most recently, DP9 licensed their world to Stompy Bot productions who Kickstarted a new Heavy Gear PC game called Heavy Gear Assault. The Kickstarter was a success, so guess what?SBP took the money and ran. They started a Crypto-Mining company, lost all of their funding and disappeared up the Corporate ladder.

>>20912997I have always felt the same way, frankly. I was attracted to Tau initially for that exact reason, having never watched any anime, only to watch mecha anime later and to look back at the Tau and feel like I'd been duped.>>20913411Using what has been agreed upon to be one of the worst machines of an already contentious faction while ignoring numerous other actually interesting designs, like Killa Kanz or Deff Dreads or the various flavors of Dreadnought or the kajillion Imperial Knight variants seems kind of disingenuous, even though, in the first place, you're "no u"ing an opinion.
>>20913804Every couple of weeks I re-watch the opening cinematic of the first Heavy Gear game. I love the bulbous and shaky armor pieces, and the medium-speed chugging of the guns. And the cockpit interior has that classic 80-90's look that you see common in things like Starcraft and Ma.K.
>>20917534Dreads are "ok" until you realize they have no knees so they must waddle across the battlefield, and every game cheats and changes them to have knees. And don't even get me started on the new Primaris Fischer-Price vehicles
>>20917634No, actually, the games just caught a detail you missed.
>>20917655They have like a 10 degree range of motion after all the armor plates are on, it can't walk
>>20917663All the armor plates? It's literally one giant U-shaped plate mounted on the front of the leg, ornate if you're going with some dread patterns. Better tellall the folks who've modeled Dreadnoughts using these proportions, legs, and joints for the past couple years, in or out of video games, that apparently most movement is impossible.Anyway, I would also like to address the "Fisher Price" thing, since I didn't think much of it initially as it falls on the same lines as everything you've said. again, you're entitled to your opinion. Actually, I agree with you and dislike Primaris in many ways, among other things about modern 40k, but the truth of the matter is that "Fisher Price" is more of a return to form for 40k than anything else.
Perhaps it's telling in this conversation that I actually find old 40k stuff quite charming compared to a lot of the newer.
>>20917694is it though?

>>20917799Yes.
>>20917812orks are the faction meant to be the comic relief, it's supposed to be limited to just them (inb4 some rogue trader era dancing marines, that hasn't been a thing for 90% of the game's lifespan)
>>20917835You're trying to use faction aesthetics to detract from the broader point: early 40k was always super bright, chunky, and ridiculous to the max, or "Fischer Price", apparently. Again, nuHammer is just returning to 40k's roots aesthetically speaking.
>>20917812While i like goofy 40k.Fourth edition is almost 20 years old.The 'well back in 1-3 it use to be like' argument is wearing thin.>>20917835But also the 'orks are comic relief' is a poor argument because it was the overall design aesthetic than 'just the orks were goofy'
>>20917868Justify this thing. Especially the roll cage instead of armor, or the fact that this same chassis when used as a dreadnought apparently kills the pilots, but when an entire marine is sitting in there it's fine
>>20917869Not particularly. The point I've been making this whole time, since this conversation has gone on so long I must repeat it, is that 40k has ridiculous: the game and that one's opinion on what something is or isn't in that context ought to be just that. The post that prompted this was a milquetoast statement of opinion, someone else attacking that opinion for nothing, and then the veering between me saying that it's a little disingenuous to use a cherrypicked example of a something you don't like to argue someone else's opinion is invalid and that 40k has always been weird.>>20917883Literally proving my point here. I'm not saying that that machine is not ridiculous and literally said in my own post that what you're posting can trace its inherent silliness right back through its ancestry. I even went so far as to tell you I thought it poor in comparison to older stuff. Is there something I've missed, here?
>>20917868>40k's roots aestheticallyNot him but which roots exactly? Because you keep using stuff from across editions. It's also literally just the primaris getting the Fischer Price designs. Even the new Horus Hersey line isn't following it.>>20917889You legitimately just rambled that entire post attacking the two of us.The bottom line is that the primaris as a whole do not fit within the current aesthetic or even the one they are actively building. Trying to justify it just because 'lol 40k is krazy bro' isn't going to work. We are almost 6 years into them at this point and they still look terrible and don't fit in anywhere. It's not about it being a silly design. It's about it being a bad design.
>>20917899Primaris marines are definitely one of the designs of all time
>>20917899>Because you keep using stuff from across editions.Yes, because the "roots" are 40k itself. That is the point of material being used from across the editions: 40k has always had chunky and ridiculous designs from its inception through to today. I also would not quite agree with it "just" being Primaris, or else people wouldn't have been mocking things like the SoB baby carriers. I did not exactly try to attack you either, I never said anything negative about any of what you've said, only argued against it, nor did I attack the other guy, save for in my post about dreadnought legs. I don't really get what the problem is with any of my argumentation here. 40k always being krazy has always been true at some level.
>>20915214Fuck you AI bitch. Eat my peewees
