Ordian is very obscure. You can call this a forgotten /m/ since even majority of mecha fans don't know its existence unless they surf wikipedia for Obari and randomly stumbled on it. You can say his Gravion absolutely overshadowed his previous works.

Koisuru Haguruma. This is an /m/ black comedy manga with alot of cool mechanical designs. The author obviously took inspirations from Nagano. However, sadly it only has 2 volumes published in Japan and being a very obscure title.

Shame, I read it a while back and enjoyed what's available so far. There's a lot of short /m/anga that don't survive past the second or third volume, but the quality varies as you'd expect with stuff like that. But then again, only so much mecha manga is actually translated compared to anime

Manga truly is the land of obscure and forgotten mecha.
We get to the point with anime that the same shows get mentioned every time (DT Eightron, Gad Guard and Gigantic Formula being the biggest offenders). But with manga, only a rather small fraction gets translated, leaving a whole iceberg of tittles to discover.
For instance, there is this one called Eleven Soul that basically seems like some sort of Muv-Luv but with a Bioweapon instead of aliens. The whole thing is actually translated (in some weird rental site) but no one has actually read. It only had thread some time ago and it didn't last long. And we could go on and on, like Battleground Workers, Majestic Prince Manga, Sakura Brigade, and a long etc.
I wonder what other master piece is out there that remains translated.

There is also Hakaijuu. It started as a generic disaster manga with giant monsters and shock gore horror. But then it had a big genre shift in second part and went full Tekkaman Blade. This manga is one wild ride.

>>20776058
There's one manga (I think?) that was discussed here a while back that I can't seem to think of the name of. I wanna say it had some Evangelion connection, like either the designer worked on it or something else.

I keep wanting to like this game. Kickass designs and decent music don't hide the sub-NES quality, your shots are weedy and tiny, and you're so slow.

Dion tho. Dion is my guy. The US version Imperium cut out background layers and replaced a useful weapon with an awful one, but Kidou Soukou Dion is entirely in decent English, like the boxart.

Ordian is pretty weird.
First half is straight up vietnam with mechs, and then it radically switches gears into muh destiny and beyond human evolution and giant naked women and shit.
It has some pretty good combat animations, it deserves a BD.

>>
>>20777287
Show has actually incomprehensible subs and most Ordian threads devolve into begging for good subs.
As for Lead Spike, see pic related. Left is the old release, the one most have seen. Right is a newer, incomplete and better batch of subs.
There are many more case of this through the old release.
>>
>>20776058
It's because manga was way harder to get ahold of than anime.
And the sheer amount of manga out there is just ridiculous.
But now in that many authors are switching to digital platforms I think it'll soon become as accessible to international audiences as anime.
So we may have less manga fall into the cruel fate of obscurity.

Manga authors could honestly completely cut out the industry if they just opened up patreons and charged like $1-5 a per chapter.
Depending on how big their audience is and how frequently they update they could easily get rich on that model.
>>
>>20777296

Ok so, just asking. Is Orgun really an obscure /m/ or it is just unpopular outside of Japan?

And also, why the fuck does this OVA's soundtrack so ominous? Even at the scene where it supposed to be peaceful, the soundtrack was still unpleasant as fuck?!
>>
>>20779192
>Is Orgun really an obscure /m
No.
>>
>>20779192

>>
>>20779249
Obari and the staff shouldn't have hire that drama queen Hirasawa as composer. Personality i like Orgun alot, but the soundtrack was weird.
>>
>>20779256
I liked it well enough, but admittedly I'm a sucker for moody/ominous music. I'm particularly fond of Hirasawa's Berserk stuff (anime and game too).
I wasn't a fan of the songs in Orgun
though, I'll give you that.
>>
>>20779192
Much like Ordian, it's Obari. And most Obari works are very well loved /m/ that most of us anons want to see remastered and properly subbed.
Dunno whether that A-ko/MADOX-01 find by Discotek and AnimEigo includes practically all of the 80s and 90s OVA that were shot on film, because if it does then we're in for some kino-level restaurations.
>>
>>20779414
Yeah, I would very much like to see the files they sorted through. You have no idea how badly I want to see Gallforce on something beyond crappy VHS.
>>
>>20779414
Fuck off tourist.
>>
>>20779414
I really hope Discotek prioritizes more on /m/ with dated VHS/Laserdisc. Sure, shows that are stuck due to the film negative frames were either lost or damaged- are cannot be saved. However, there are shows that can technically be recovered into higher quality but their owner company doesn't give a flying fuck about. It is up to the non Japanese side to save them from oblivion.
>>
>>20779810
Domesday can save a lot of the uncertain Laserdisc-only titles like Orgun was. Practically made for CAV ripping (CAVs are Laserdiscs that had less playtime but higher picture quality).
>>
>>20779824
Orgun has DVD but according to Kaixerho's encoder, the DVD has inferior quality compares to the Laserdisc. This is what happens to old DVD that never had a retransfer.

Orgun's LD has its own charm. But personally, i do wish for it to have a remaster, however Obari promised the BD for too long but we never heard of it again.
>>
>>20780025
Hope Ordian doesn't wind up a hollow promise like Orgun was.
Anyway, as long as Discotek keeps putting out more Obarikino (WHERE IS GOD BLESS ON THE DANCOUGA BLU RAYS, YA NITWITS?) I'm good for now.
>>
>>20780066
Ordian is easier to unfuck into high quality. The DVD is good enough. If anything, they can use the SD source to remaster it.

The one I just posted I think was supposed to be some kind of harem or love triangle thing with aliens, and pic related was supposed to be a fantasy chosen-one deal.
Also, my holy grail of forgotten /m/ is definitely the English translation of the first couple of For the Barrel chapters; for those unaware, it was a weird 0079 Gundam retelling that got a lot of cool art, and apparently the first few bits were translated in the very, very first convention-only issue of Newtype USA.

Apocalypse Zero. Absolute crackhouse insanity from the creator of Shigurui. Starts out as a deliberately offensive, extremely gory and repulsive post apocalyptic mindfuck before the story takes a sudden turn and it becomes a ridiculously over the top shonen Kamen Rider/Fist of the North Star hybrid full of parodies and references to other shows and manga, nonsensical martial arts moves and all while keeping the viscerally detailed gore and disgusting designs. Got a brief OVA adaption that only covered the first three or so volumes (which are the really deranged and gross ones) before it was cancelled.
It’s sort of a punching bag in the community now and I’ve seen a lot of people pawn in off as the worst anime ever made, which isn’t fair considering it never got to adapt the really good parts of the manga. It did got published in the west by Media Blasters but they stopped at the 6th volume. The series was also a nominated finalist for the inaugural Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prize, only losing to Doreamon
>>
>>20812121
>forgotten
No?
>>
>>20812123
yes. It’s got a small cult following in Japan but literally everywhere else people only recognise it as a putrid OVA full of disgusting monsters and gore, even that’s limited to a small subset of people who are into lowbrow ova filth. The US release of the manga tanked so hard they didn’t even finish it and it would’ve eternally languished in obscurity if that guy from Channel Awesome didn’t cover it on his show thing
>>
>>20812123

Going by the upload dates on some sites, we’re getting (at maximum) a chapter or two a month (they skipped February by the looks of it). Just finished the tv series about 5 minutes ago. For the most part I enjoyed it. The first few episodes are very entertaining and well done, then it gets a bit slow while they fuck about on Mars arguing and then in space for 10 or so episodes before they land on earth and things start getting extremely good. To be honest I think I liked the Ru Cain arc more than the space one, purely because there was more going on than ‘oh no we’re getting attacked by another SPT force, Eiji please stop them’.

The pacing totally shit the bed in the last few episodes which I knew was going to happen anyway. Eiji and Anna suddenly fucking off to South America to look for the “Seal of Grados” literally comes out of nowhere and then is never brought up again after that. The final episode was odd but I didn’t hate it. Could’ve done without the clip show final 10 minutes but the animation was superb and I was glad to see the Rowan arc get fulfilled properly. Onto the OVA now. Rowan besto boy

Further reasoning for preferring the Ru Kain plot:
>The rest of the cast step out of Eiji’s shadow and start growing as characters
>Anna in particular goes from a total nothing character who barely talks to an engaging watch
>Ru Kain himself is incredibly cool and I love his SPT design
>the plot taking a bizarre turn was a lot more investing than the standard alien invasion plot that had been used in the first half
>Rowan becoming an absolute mad bastard chess master was a cool change and for a while I genuinely thought he had actually defected, and it pissed me the fuck off, so to see him bounce back and pull the rug from under Ru Kain was very enjoyable
>Arthur goes from being fairly whiny and annoying into being very charming and fun to watch
>the 1984/Indiana Jones aesthetic was very cool
>Eiji beating the shit out of people with his tonfas was very cool
>David and Simone becoming absolute powerhouses that gun down everything was very cool

Aside from some horrifying pacing and the annoying focus on the Demon Death Squad that took a bit too long, it was very enjoyable

Ok watched the OVA. Very nice ending to the series and it definitely made up for the bumpier parts of the second season. Great end to a fun series. Overall it gets a 7/10

Glad you liked it, its a really solid show that had some pretty bad luck.
Pity that the third act was never made.

Why did Julia suddenly become an envoy of God and how did she get her hands on the Grados medallion?

Ayy, i actually follow its manga.
Its far from being good, its wn translation is mt, and is certainly not as fun as other mecha isekai, but the mechanical design is bloody good, i'm really into the designs.

I gave this one a shot and man, is this what they're all like? I'm not talking about the usual punching bags: your hilariously shat on for being filthy underpowered plebs who are secretly gods MCs, the harem elements, the ease of accumulation of vast material wealth and power. I mean how completely flavorless it all is. The vague shallowness to everything. It's hard to describe, but it feels like the series is a literal checklist of things in manga (and presumably LN) form: MC gets loli waifu, MC gets cat girl waifu, MC gets super mech, MC gets money and more babes. There's not even a real token attempt to show people really being super into any of this happening. He and his waifus are compelled to seek revenge on the state that killed their dad figure who was around for like a few pages, but other than that you got them sleeping three to a bed with no real emotional weight to it. Even for a harem series there's remarkably little actual enthusiasm all around. I guess that's the solo character trait of the third waifu he gets.
