The Gundams could randomly appear on maps and you'd be forced to retreat early on because of how overpowered they are. Since they don't appear on radar, all you'd see is explosions and hear screaming over the radio. Except when Deathscythe appeared and all your sensors would be jammed. leaving you with a fuzzy screen and no idea where to go or what was happening. If you could coordinate your team enough to damage a Gundam you could be rewarded with special weapons like Heavyarms' gattling or a whole arm from Shenlong you could slap on your unit etc.

Leos are actually really good they just go up against super robots daily. It's kind of sad that grunt MS constantly get ass blasted when they look so cool.
