They're used as futuristic looking assault rifles, when they're really just compact smg designed for tank or truck crews to defend themselves in case they have to bail. >>20691219>weapon firing weak little rounds.5.7 isn't exactly weak, though it is most definitely not a mere anti-personnel round; it's designed with the expectation of being shot at a target clad in soviet manufacture body armor. It's largely present in media to look cool though, not gonna lie. Though if it were my call I'd shill for the UMP because I'm a hipster who likes Hk's blocky shit. Still, the P90 has that 50 round capacity going for it, and in such a compact form factor too. It makes a good secret service kind of gun.
>>20691219What makes them weak little rounds, anon.
>>20692322Not him. They're dimensionally similar to .22WMR and doesn't perform that much better than it either. They don't even defeat armor particularly effectively and if you believe anecdotal from the handful of PD's that have P90s, they aren't that terminally effective against unarmored targets either. SS190 is only 31 grains which is getting down to the low end of what makes sense and it doesn't tumble and fragment at higher velocity in the same way that can make 5.56 so effective. It didn't get adopted as a nato standard both because HK threw a legal hissy fit and because it didn't grant any advantages to make widescale adoption worth it.In a world where 5.56 loadings for short barrels and short barreled ARs are more prevalent it doesn't really have the same monopoly over it's very specific niche. Additionally the MP7 seems to have taken it's spot among special forces and swat type units, probably due to ergonomics and weight savings (and hk politicking).

>>20684362>>20715683How many of you actually prefer the original OVA to the TV continuity, beyond the fancier visuals and connection to the movie trilogy?I prefer the latter because it has more time to flesh out the characters and tell whatever stories the writers came up with that week.
>>20715748Get a real girl.
>>20717440The ova was nice, and the movies IMO are in a league of their own. The first two are masterpieces, haven't watched the third however due to the prevailing opinion on it.But the TV series is amazing. Like you said the characters are more fleshed out and the stories are fun and enjoyable. I haven't watched the "new files" yet however, heard it kinda concludes the story a little better.I love patlabor man, and it was the second anime I ever watched. I really need to re-watch the tv series.. Watched it on kissanime or some website like that with shitty quality.
>>20718141Funnily enough I was thinking of rewatching the TV series too, makes a nice change from other /m/edia.As for the parts you haven't watched, 2nd OVA is generally pretty good, it takes place in the TV continuity and is generally fairly similar in tone, but with better animation (obviously). The first few episodes with the conclusion of the Griffin plotline are pretty serious but things soon become much more casual from there with a madcap bathhouse chase, the mechanics' porno mag subplot, a pearl-shitting albino alligator (I am NOT making this up) and a hilarious Ultraman parody in the penultimate episode. Well worth your time. The third movie WXIII is supposed to be set between the two other films and is a more cynical version of the Gojira-ripoff plot from the first OVA, I don't personally like the darker tone and digitally-coloured animation but it is there for completionism.I haven't seen any of the live-action beyond the trailer so can't speak as to its quality, hopefully it will spawn more Patlabor anime someday
>>20717440I prefer the OVA to the TV show. The latter feels a bit too exaggerated, leaning more towards caricature than the OVA's (comparitively) grounded forms. It's not a huge thing and I enjoy the TV show plenty, but the former's definitely more my style.
>>20718399I think the alligator episode was a followup to a tv story like the Griffin stuff?I've seen some of the live action. Seems nice enough even if it's a TNG of SV2 (except for Shige who's now chief mechanic and is played by his original VA)the short thing they did that went nowhere a few years back was okay, the cg labors fit the movement style of labors pretty well>>20717462did anybody ever scrounge up the exact panels from the comics when Noa finds out his origin story?
>>20718471the live action is nostalgia bait IMO, the cast are carbon copies of the anime characters and the movie is just a Patlabor 2 retread
Is Patlabor even good by today's standards?I tried watching the movies and a few episodes but it seemed strange.Basically mecha are used in construction. But sometimes people go crazy and use them for criminal stuff and the Patlabor for is there to stop them?I don't quite understand how that plot can last so many episodes. How many crazy psychos are allowed to drive construction bots that it's necessary to create an entire mecha police department?
>>20685111No prob brohttps://youtu.be/5bM_kaQadI0
>>20717440The original obviously looks great both due to budget as well as being directed by Oshii, it's got arguably the best episodes of the entire series (SV2's Longest Day), and the fact that it leads into the first movie is a huge bonus. That said, TV hands down. The characters are more fleshed out, the dramatic moments hit harder, the comedy is funnier. We get to really explore the world of Patlabor and the relationships of the characters, and that's just so much fun. Especially including the 2nd OVA when talking about the TV show (it concludes the Griffin arc and has a proper finale for all the characters, you've got to include it imo), it does everything masterfully. When I first watched Patlabor 2 after watching the first OVA and movie, I was really disappointed. Where were all the characters I loved? Why did they seem like there was a ton of development I had missed? Of course, the answer is all of that was in the TV show, so much so that I doubt P2 would have been as different from the rest of the franchise if the TV series hadn't explored the concept and characters so thoroughly. Production order wins again. When I went back to watch the first OVA again, I was surprised at how one dimensional the characters were compared to what they'd become. I do still love the first OVA, but I guess this post was just a very longwinded explanation of why I prefer TV+2nd OVA. Thank you for reading my blog.

Sure the pacing of the show could drag a bit but the development actually felt like you were getting to know real people their flaws and strengths. For example Asuma being defensive got pretty annoying but as more and more hints dropped I understood why and him as a character also opened up. I don't think a show has done such a human job of detailing it's characters in a long while for me.
