>>20629426Alright, alright. I goofed up, my bad.
>>20629413You know it might help if you started the thread by telling us a little bit about something you're reading instead of just dropping off some random ass image. Actually get a discussion going instead of saying "INCREDIABLY BROAD MEDIUM THREAD GO!"
>>20629459Alright then. Amongst the many things i've checked: The Op picture is from Snowball Earth, a fairly recent manga that started just last year, I believe. Checked its first volume and was pretty charming. Its kinda like King Gainer with the winterland setting, but with a boy and his robot partner coming back from an epic space fight gone wrong. The Patlabor Translation is going steady. Some guy is doing a translation for Dragon's Heaven. Other anon already made a thread about Gigantis Counterattack. The Rockman X manga is also getting a (probably) full retranslation, with X1 finished.Yuusha Shoutai (pic related) is another semi recent one, although with more chapters than snowball earth. I don't find it amazing but is an enjoyable way to spend time. Respectable enough for an isekai and pretty well drawn.Lastly, i recall reading that the Heart Gear author got better and is going back to doing his story. And that's about it.
>>20629502Am I imaginig things or was anime adaptation of Snowball Earth announced some time ago?
Manga is definitely my preferred entertainment medium over anime or live action, but the amount of actually good mecha is pretty slim. Once you reach the point of knowing what you like, trying to read low quality works just isn't worth it. Same goes for everything though, really. Absolute tops are Nehei, Nagano, or Shirow for me. Gunm/Alita is up there, but ultimately Yukito Kishiro is too into guro to be one of my top. Superb mangaka though with technical skill through the roof. Sadamoto's Eva manga was alright. Crest of the Stars has pretty art. Fuminonagi's Our Lives after the Apocalypse was ok if very derivative. Tsukushi's Gear's Maiden was an experience.Yuuki Masami's Patlabor is charming and it's super nice to have English translations going again. Can't really discuss Mecha without Kitoh Mohiro's body of work. Perhaps a bit too into suffering and incredibly cruel to women. Still worth it though. Bokurano is misunderstood.Tsuyoshi Takaki's Heart Gear is really superb for what feels like a young mangaka. There is a bunch of 80's and 90's style kings like Takezaki and Kia Asamiya but my word count is ridiculous here.Yoshikazu Yasuhiko is a top tier mangaka, but his storytelling choices are weird. Painful sameface too. Industry legend and deserves all the acclaim.Kondo's Gundam work is super good and I wish more of it was in English.Morishita Kaoru and Mad Wang post UC Gundam is worth a mention for pure what the fuck. There's a ton of Gundam manga that run the gamut from pure shit, to oatmeal drawn by robots, to very decent, but it really takes someone like Kondo or Yas or Ohtagaki to make standout works that are actually good manga. Hasegawa also gets an honorable mention for not letting go of the Tezuka artstyle. Then there's stuff like YKK and Ai-Ren where the /m/ is important but very subtle. That's enough typing.
>>20629413Bought The Origin MSD Cucuruz Doan’s Island manga on recent sale on Bookwalker and been slowly reading through it. My first manga in Japanese and thank god for furigana. That said, robots are cool and Oono Junji is very good at imitating Yasuhiko’s style.
Snowball earth is Raildex style superpower fight trash, fuck off.
I need to read the second volume
>>20629800Five Star Stories is a convoluted mess that has no direction or true plot. Nagano is probably praying he dies before he has to try and make sense of it all.
>>20631212 I really hate when western comics feel the need to put “mech” in the tittle of their mech story
>>20631304Yeah it's not even a true story, it's just worldbuilding, which I guess it does well so it doesn't really matter, but anyone trying to claim it's anything beyond that is a moron.
>>20631304I mean, technically speaking, nagano doesn't have to end his manga because we already know how it ends. Granted, writting the end goal of your story in a timeline is not the same as actually drawing it but, that we know how it ends, we do.
>>20631366it is just a pun dude.
>>20631344Is there an online scan for this ?
>>20631448It’s not really a pun
>>20631448That's a bad enough issue on it's own.>>20631607It's always the case whenever the west tries to copy anime. Just copy the most superficial aspects while calling direct attention to how ANIME you are.
>>20631304It is a set of short stories connected by a clear overarching timeline though? Like, that is the basic premise set up in volume 1. Each short story stands on its own. The fact that they all contribute to a greater narrative is awesome. Not to mention the fact that Nagano is just a really good mangaka in the technical sense. So, sorry you didn't enjoy it but your criticism is just fallacious. I'm guessing you haven't read much classic SF if you think that a non linear set of short stories is a "convoluted mess".>>20631380Just wow dude, what does that even mean? A story, by definition, is an account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment. That's it. I bet that phrase sounded cooler in your head though. If you want to discuss narrative plot structures I'm all ears, but I doubt you have it in you. In both cases it is super telling that neither of you talked about mecha manga you like and enjoy, just dumped on Nagano.
Also, thread needs some Otomo
and Akira Toriyama
Dolls are /m/ right?
>>20629800Gunhed may have the worst translation I have ever read but the general concept and accompanying live action movie make up for it.
>>20632377Not a fan of shock horror, does it have a redeemable plot?
>>20632977It's not horror, more like a splatter film. The plot is nice but nothing too complex, it's pretty short after all. But the dolls are great.
>>20629800>Kondo's Gundam work is super good and I wish more of it was in English.Same, i really want to check his 0079 manga, since that seems to be his biggest work.
>>20629800>Gunm/Alita is up there, but ultimately Yukito Kishiro is too into guro to be one of my top.Wtf is this??
>>20629426Tell me that you're new without saying it.

>>20636871imagine not knowing a meme that's been going on for more than a decade
Re-read Getter earlier this month. Ryoma's "dream" and Shin in Go were great, but my favorite overall was probably Arc. I did like Shin as the logical extreme of a Gattai robot, just shapeshifting instead of decombining and changing.

Could I get some recs on mech manga?I've read quite a few of the Gundam sidestory ones but most seemed really boring, and to be fair I only read them for 'the lore' and getting a picture of what was happening in some SRW and SDGGG. I don't think I've had any resemblance of fun with any of those except maybe CrossboneMy favorite is Bokurano, one of my favorite manga actually and will definitely give it a re-read. If I were to pick a second favorite, maybe Shin Mazinger Zero? At least it was funHaven't tried some popular ones like Getter, Gundam Origin, Evangelion, Pluto, Rockman Mega/Gigamix. I guess those are in my backlog
>>20629413I hope the translator hasn't fully abandoned this.
>>20629413>silver hairCan you please not start a threat with something this ugly?
>>20820576Origin is just more "lore". There are two major parts to it, one would be a retelling of the original series, and the other part is set before the original series to sort of explain how the politics between Side 3 and Earth escalated the way they did into direct war.If Crossbone Gundam is your thing, the one thing that comes to mind as being somewhat similar would be the Gundam Seed Astray mangas. Oddly enough they both feature protagonists who have a sort of indomitable spirit and willingness to help and fight for others, a supporting cast of somewhat quirky people, and a lot of varied mecha design.
>>20822135Yeah I read Astray, it was okay. Didn't bother with the other Astray manga (x, delta or whatever they were called) though. Maybe I expect too much from Gundam manga.
>>20822799That's pretty much it, then. Not a lot of fun manga as far as Gundam goes. The only thing else that's not serious or related to war stories would be the Build Gundam mangas which focus on the model-building aspect along with a bit of shounen sports competition type thing, or the comedy mangas like Gundam-san which poke fun at existing Gundam characters and situations, sometimes from a meta-POV.
>>20822816Ah true! Gundam San was very nice, enjoyed it lots back then
>>20820576The Evangelion manga is very good if you haven’t read it. Done directly by the show’s character designer so the art is consistently fantastic. There’s a few changes in the general plot too that make it worth checking out, so it’s not just a one for one adaption of the anime (it actually premiered first, it just took 20 years to finish). Rei and her relationship with Shinji gets a shitload more focus, Asuka gets some additional characterisation (though in fairness she’s pretty sidelined here) and Kaworu is basically a totally different character. The ending is also radically different and very touching. Dare I say it’s better than the anime
Part 2 translation fucking when?
>>20632971kek
>>20822859I think the original anime is one of the best. EoE really is amazing.Rebuild bored me to death though, was very disappointed on 3.0+1.0.Hopefully the manga goes the other way, it will probably be one of the things I read next. Art looks sweet too.
>>20822881When I say the ending is radically different, I just mean the very very end. The events of EOE basically take place as in the film with some differences but the final scene after Shinji rejects third impact is significantly different than how you know it, so don’t go in expecting some Rebuild tier changes and bait and switches
>>20822931That sounds great actually
>>20822947It’s all great shit and I recommend you start reading now. I hope you don’t like cats
https://archive.org/details/T28BOxhttps://archive.org/details/t28SKellyThe manga recognised to codify the mecha genre: Tetsujin 28 finally got some of it translated.
>>20824170That reminds me of those crazy Mitsuteru Yokoyama threads from like about 2 years ago where some madlads archived alot of his manga and translated all these notes only for literally nothing to come of it.
>>20820576Turn A's manga adaptation got finished recently. It's decent and makes a few interesting changes compared to the show. Wouldn't recommend it unless you're a big Turn A fan though.
Not a manga issue, but I don't want to kill a thread for a single question. Where should I go for the uncut version of Gurren Lagann episode 6? I've got a copy of the episode, but the subs are fucked and I'm not finding anything else on Nyaa. I haven't watched much anime since the first death of kissanime so I don't really know what anime pirate sites there are nowadays.
>>20806834Is there any other case of a series where the adaptation was such a shitshow that it killed it source material?
Winvurga, it’s peak of mecha manga
Decided to check out the Gunhed manga before watching the movie. The art's cool but the translation is crabstick tier
>>20848091
>Texmexcium
bless whoever started continuously translating Patlabor on regular basis, you are my unsung hero
Been reading Winvurga.
>>20865018Based. It's trash, but the good kind of trash.
>>20865018>gives birth on a hanger catwalk>crazed misandrist arrives to kill her baby>immediately climbs into her mech to fight her offI'm going to be extremely upset if she dies. I'm preparing to be upset.
>>20867073She's tough, she can handle it!!!!
>>20865018Have fun with it.
>>20631607DC comics is even doing it now. At least with Mech Cadet Yu it was a new IP
>>20756834thanks anon will check it out
>>20866061I think its alright.>>20867073I hope she lives. She's pretty great.
Finally found a site to read this that doesn't drive my antivirus crazy. And by "read" I mean "gawk at the panels" since there don't seem to be translations anywhere.
where the hell are the updates /ak/???
>>20665880Interesting, I can't read a lick of japanese so all I can really comment on is the art, but it looks really nice. Just wish the action didn't feel so cluttered. Thanks for posting all these, anon. It's kinda weird coming from other genres and seeing how much gets translated there, while over in /m/ it's mostly adaptations. Kind of sad, but I guess that's just the way of things. It does motivate me to practice my shoddy japanese more though
So, there's a Rcokman-san manga going telling the story between classic Mega Man and Mega Man X, but the translator dropped it i think. Also, a gag manga from the same author called Rockman-chan.Rockman-san is quite interesting since it deals about how the technology is advancing and the old robot master have to deal with the fact they are becoming obsolete and since they have a advanced AI they start to get a identity crisis and rockman need to help them to deal with this. While this happens humanity is dealing with a lot of new advanced robot stealing their jobs and many people start to hate and protest against robots.https://mangadex.org/title/0fe91d96-738a-4fec-b518-d00c20e85a89/rockman-sanhttps://mangadex.org/title/57f31274-8b36-4f31-8d97-ac1b79f5e409/rockman-chanRaws:https://web-ace.jp/youngaceup/contents/1000169/episode/
>>20899194If it interest you, the first 13 chapters were translated and were uploaded to mangadex. Also, if anybody cares, Kakugo no Susume/Apocalypse Zero is only 3 chapters away from being fully translated.
>>20899133It's been 10 months. Someone should go and ask the translator
>>20899133>>20903875If you guys are wondering, Uxtef (/ak/ translator) stopped translating and dropped all amngas he was working due to some shit company licensing all titles from the magazine he used to translate. So if you want any new chapter for that manga, you should find a new translator that would be interested on doing it.
New scan from /m/.Redman The Kaiju Hunter Vol.1https://www30.zippyshare.com/v/2oP2x1D4/file.html
>>20904651That's not the same translator. Red Eyes's last 21 chapters were translated by Versus scanlation group, a team made specifically for this manga. They used to release a chapter every month or two, but I guess they got lazy or something.
>>20904914Oh, since the guy said 10 months I thought it was about Uxtef, he stopped translating around the same time. Well, who knows, maybe he actually worked with Versus on translating.
/r/ing manga about mecha with kaijuu.Mecha fighting on the same side as the kaijuu, and robotic kaijuu are also acceptable.I've already read Knights of Sidonia.
Did the Gamera vs Barugon manga ever get scanned?
>>20905116>>20904914>New Red Eyes chapter dropsYou actually summoned the translator or what?
>>20908861can I summon new tokusatsu gagaga chapter?
>>20908861I always knew I had Manifesting abilities.
Does anyone know if this is any good?
>>20910530Do you know where to find it?I tried looking for it but found no scans online.
>>20910613No it's just every volume is for sale on some anime DVD/manga vender websites for kinda cheap too.
Are the translations for Walpurgis and the OL Haman manga any good? I'm seeing some discussion on Twitter that the guy doing those has been MTL'ing them
>>20910942Walpurgis one is definitely MTL, same guy as Agressor pretty sure
Joshikouhei is a masterpiece
>>20915573it's fucking great
>>20908861thank goodness. i was worried i'd have to sit through a berserk style hiatus before i get another update
Is it worth reading Ecole du Ciel if it's in permanent hiatus? What about Macross The Origin? Is that still in hiatus?
Did anyone buy this? Looks like there are some interesting ones in there https://shop.peowstudio.com/collections/books/products/ex-mag-vol-3-master-grade
>>20941533Didn't even know about it, looks interesting, might consider getting it.
>>20941538Oh shit! Someone's translating Babel II The Returner? Never thought I'd see the day.
>>20941988Yeah, HappyScans! and Hokuto no Gun picked it up like a month ago. So far, they've done only 3 chapters.
So, for Tachiyomi, how do you update chapters that get added later on in Extensions? And is there a way to set up chapters on mangas you put in the app?
>>20941533author https://twitter.com/tatsumimimi
I feel like I'm way late on this, but someone picked up Shin Mazinger Zero vs Ankoku Daishogun from volume 2 onward. https://mangadex.org/title/855a1c70-4e13-4b82-8bf5-fb42201db6d5/shin-mazinger-zero-vs-ankoku-daishougunI never really looked at the raw and I was a little taken by surprised at Duke Fleed showing up.
>>20943917>taken by surprised
>>20941997That's 3 more than I ever thought I'd see. Need them to translate the 101 manga now.

>>20688147Yeah, manga nowadays show more than just butts.
