***READ THE GUIDE***

THE GUIDE: http://gunpla.buyfags.moe/

***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And remember to report any shitposting and spam to keep the thread clean and civil.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

==GM GROUPBUILD==

Build and customize a mobile suit from the GM family of mobile suits in any way you can imagine! That means any suit that either has "GM" in the name or in its model number is A-OK to use. This includes
>Normal OYW GMs and their variants (ie. Sniper, Cannon, Interceptor)
>Post-OYW GMs like the Powered GM or GM Quel
>GM II/GM IIIs
>Suits from the RGM family of suits (Jegans, Jestas, Heavyguns, Jamesguns, Javelins)
>SD GMs
Conversely, this excludes:
>UC suits without the RGM model number (ie: Nemo (MSA-003), Gun Blastor (LM111E03))
>GM equivalents from other Gundam timelines (Daughtress, Windam, Adele, etc)
You can still source parts from other kits for your builds, but the basis of your entry has to be at least 50% GM when it comes to the original parts used. The 50% limitation refers only to the body itself, you're free to do what you wish with your suit's equipment.

Send all photos (Both WIPs and Finished photos, with multiple angles/poses) and a short description of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com once you're finished.

START - 11/1/21
END - 2/28/22

Close but no. It's the equivalent from an AU. Honestly easy mistake for a newcomer. That said you could kitbash a Dagger & a proper GM together so long as the result is at least ~50% GM.

>>20543040
Nice! I've been really enjoying the KKsenki kits. I should be getting the Full Mechanics Kenbu, Brady Hound, & the support plane soon. Looking forward to them.

Can I get water slide decals wet again and have them stick or are they done after falling off? Pic related had a few on the arms fall off after transforming
>>
>>20543763
Even without the scribing and plating a good paint job and seam filling plus fixing up the V-fin would make for a pretty striking difference. That said I've never been a big fan of the three million little decals everywhere. a single WB/EFSF emblem or Amuro's personal symbol is enough
>>
>>20543893
you need to add new ones. try using mark setter and apply a topcoat
>>
>>20543893
just buy some microsol and microset like the bottles in the OP pic. they should be available at any model or art store. the microset will become the new adhesive after the original was lost and the microsol will melt it into the paint (or plastic if you're one of THOSE people)

you do NOT have to buy new ones like the guy above me says. he's trying to be helpful but he doesn't know what he's talking about.
>>

Give recommendations for better gunpla reviewers.

I unironically like BadGunpla, it's obvious he's taken classes in video editing and his scripts are very well organized. His Eva perfect grade and real grade review is kino. A few of his videos being pure shitpost makes up for the fact that he frequently speaks like a redditor. RedHeadphones6 is another good reviewer and his calm voice is enjoyable to listen to. However, neither of these guys put out a lot of content so I usually have to go to Dalong, Zakuaurelius, or Mechagaikotsu.

Have used sprays outdoors in Midwest snow hurricane weather for decades, you can spray in any temp. It's the humidity (or lack thereof) that fucks you over. I have a humidistat and rely on it for knowing when I can use spray cans and for my tarantula's cage. You can certainly warm cans up in warm water or with a hair dryer but don't overdo it. IME that gives the can more life but doesn't change your results. I don't know but my theory is that it takes more propellant to spray the shit out in colder temperatures and warming the can helps with that. They are simply less sluggish. Every horror story I have ever heard about spraying in the cold turned out to be akshully about spraying in snow/rain (humidity) or the person was keeping the cans in the garage at 12F or some shit. I keep mine indoors, in a closet, and only have had a problem when I was both in a very cold environment, like sub-20 degrees, and also kept spraying long enough that the can got very cold. You'll know because it will start sputtering. I have fucked up the odd model a bit when I sprayed black primer and it did this. Not a huge deal but an annoying delay to remedy.
Be MAX paranoid about this if you're talking final topcoat, especially if it's going to be gloss.

With the larger parts count and color separation, they look great when painted and panel-lined. However, the parts have a lot of sculpted detail out of the package, so you may want to look into some HG or MG kits if you plan on scribing.

I hand painted the black of the feet in the group build post. If you have zero experience make sure to prime and thin your paint and do 2 coats of using acrylic. Smooth single strokes, if you go over the same spot twice before it’s full dryer you can “scrap” the half dryer paint and you won’t get that perfect smooth look

Oh shit that zaku is what I’m looking for I think too? I want something more detailed then the 2002 toy looking shit I got. I’ll keep target in mind.

Luckily I found an Asian hobby shop like 30 mins away. Gonna check them out today
>>
>>20547353
Not sure what you about 2002 toy? You mean you have a really old kit? In that case the new Zaku revive kit is pretty cool judging by the pictures. Be warned though that any stock Zaku kit will be pretty basic since that's how the design is. If you want something with more detail maybe look out for a Gundam the Origin Zaku II kit as they have more detailing on it. I didn't really want to get Char's Zaku II because I was looking for normal zakus but I've never had Char's Zaku so I just got it
>>
>>20547353
if you're sniperanon, it's one of the hg origin kits you are after.
that is the new hguc zaku ii 2.0, it's much better than the 2002 kit in every way but it doesn't have the surface detail or giant sniper rifle of the origin ones

Thanks anon, I just want a big gun zaku with nice panels to line. Maybe I gotta learn to scrib.
>>
>>20547373
if you go on dalong.net you can see a list of all the origin zaku kits (go the the hg page, click english menu on the sidebar, and ctrl+f "origin"). he has pictures of the box arts on each of the pages so you know what to look out for
>>
>>20547370
just remember to not use gloss or matte, light layer of semi-gloss on the decals only.
>>
>>20547380
Yeah that’s what I’m checking now. This hobby is so over whelming with all the different kit names and grades and what not. Hard to know exactly what I want as a newbie
>>
>>20547370
>is there a way of protecting my waterslides without topcoating?
Yes, use decal setter to apply them, like micro set, or mark fit strong. They'll attach nice and firmly and won't fall off by itself or even if you try hard to remove them. Also I suggest against using any topcoat on that metallic coating of hyaku shiki because you can easily ruin it, even if it's a clear one it can ever so slightly change how the light reflects off metallic surface and you probably don't want that.
>>
>>20547384
you might wanna look at the manual scans and runner pics as well, i just had a little look myself and it turns out not every zaku comes with the giant sniper rifle. most of them seem to but there's a couple of exceptions

I remember thinking the exact same thing when I got into it. Fortunately for me I got into it because of IBO and so for a time I just kept to those kits but I've branched out since then. Generally you'll find a grade you enjoy building and like the scale of and stick to that. I personally prefer HG stuff because I like my figs to be as small as possible but I know alot of people who like MG stuff because they like bigger. It's a great hobby though that I've thouroughly enjoyed and I hope you enjoy it as well newfren
>>
>>20547413
So RG is just a more complicated build with more detail right? My HG was a breeze and built in one sitting so would it be safe to say I can handle an RG?
>>
>>20547436
Ya basically. RG and HG have the same scale, but RG has alotore detail. Be warned though that this means you are dealing with alot more small parts though as they are technically more complex. I've got a Wing Gundam EW in RG I've had sitting around forever that I need to build but I've been to lazy to, but I did build an RG Tallgeese for my brother as a gift(he grew up watching Wing) and it wasn't super bad to build and ended up looking really cool
>>
>>20547436
wow, this guy builds whole HG in one sitting - it takes me one sitting per each body part.

I found this site while browsing Youtube and they seem to have good prices for several models https://www.activepowersports.com/search.php?search_query=gundam+&x=0&y=0

>>
>>20547455
Hmmm, maybe RG may be quite a task considering I like to do full paint jobs. I guess I don’t know what the sub assembly would be like till I see how many same color panels connect to each other. Super excited to see this Asian store, I think there was only like one RG and a couple old HGs at the last place I went too

thanks for the info anon. I also thought humidity is the main factor and if the can gets really cold it probably also affects it. >>
>>20547757
if you're hanging out with people that won't appreciate that you've got a new hobby then you should drop them anon
>>
>>20547757
The classic solution to such problem is - interact and show your work to people who would appreciate it. My family (most of them, mostly younger part) hold no value in my phd degree but consider my photography skills something to prise for (which I consider amateur and never actually took any lessons or training course in it). When I was looking for job, one research institute completely ignored my practical skills and focused on low publication numbers while another did the complete opposite (the first time somebody actually appreciated my experience in designing measurement devices and various parts). At meeting with friends from studies, when I showed photos of my painted models, one of them dropped comment "you have too much free time".

Various people have various opinions and value different things - and that's normal. You don't have to bend yourself to satisfy other people, you never actually will. Instead, show your work to somebody who cares about it.

Those would dry out of go bad but they certainly can stand to make a few choice colors in jars twice as big as they do currently. Every other freaking type of paint does so. I own tubes of titanium white oil paint that's commonly sold in a tube 4x the size of the standard tube, for instance. It's the default.

Lol, people who say shit like this automatically go down in my book as having no time management skills, and I tell them so. Make time for the things you want to do the most. Even when work is crazy I have to make time for things I want to do or I'd go insane. There are definitely things I want to do but don't have time for, like learning new languages, but I would never tell someone who did learn a new language as a hobby "you have too much free time," they just prioritized it higher than I did.

Quality is cheapened out compared to their normal Gunpla offerings. Also the partsforming of Go-Saurer is pathetic, even more so than Tomy's original DX.

>>20549468
Don't forget White Lily and Viola Katze are PLAMAX due to being in the same chibi proportions as their Wataru offerings. Man, next month will be a doozy now that we're finally gonna complete the Kouteiryu through Metal Jacket Senoumaru.

>>
>>20549445
>>
>>20549461
Moderoid's price, quality and size are different from kit to kit. Their real robots are usually slightly taller than HG rx-78, super robots differs a lot but it's somewhere in-between HG and MG or almost as tall as MG. It seems that they tend to use POM for structure parts, and usually there's no inner frame and some stickers required for color correction, which depends on the kit (also sometimes they have a sticker sheet and exact copy of it but waterslides). Sometimes there are pre-painted parts. For example Knight & Magic's Ikaruga had a ton of stickers for its gold trim and I'm pretty sure that Valima'rs gold trim is going to be a sticker or decal too, yet at the same time there are high chances that Cain or Aestivalis won't have any color correcting stickers.

I don't usually play with models but I have to get these
How much do these usually cost?
>>
>>20549505
Price is kinda random and depends on licensing, I suppose, but considering that their not so big Granzort kits cost around 35$ I doubt there will be anything cheaper than that, maybe Patlabor kits idk. Stuff like Gridman will be around 70$+ like it was with Dynazenon.

They honestly fall more into the category "DIY toys" like the Super Minipla kits instead of actual models and most of them seem to be specifically aimed at snapfitters, with emblems, markings and stuff being mostly stickers instead of waterslides, no color guides in the instructions as far as I can tell, pre-painted parts, the images of the finished product actually being CGI renders and so on.

Probably the most baffling thing I've seen on them so far were Gladion's skirt armor pieces where the large grey stickers for them are also used to cover up the holes that you put the joints in (best pic I could find for that).

>>20549940
I’ve used Armored Komodo pigments for a few projects. They look great, but applying them is a hassle. I thought about adding them to some gloss varnish or Tamiya clear for airbrushing, but I’m behind on trying it.
>>
>>20550234
Isn’t that stance the zaku-fu that Gadem used on the Gundam?
>it didn’t work
>>
>>20550148
honestly, yes. There may be prepainted parts but if the design is very colorful, you are likely to get a big sticker sheet
>>
>>20550234

The old promo poses are pretty cool as well.
>>
>>20549318
Make your own panel liner with some thinned enamels or oils. That way you can make lighter colors (e.g., gold, sky blue, teal) that work for dark pieces. Pick something that creates contrast and that you like. Another option is to dry brush a metallic silver over the panel edges to accentuate them instead of the recesses.
>>
>>20549318
Don't panel line, gunplas are 3D objects - they cast their own shadows.

this is my snapped Doctor Yellow, as you can see, it looks rather plain because its suppose to have the windows painted black or something, as well as some black stripes somewhere, which they give you a sticker sheet for them. It comes with weapons too but they're all molded in a single color. GSC quality isn't as good as bandai but it's manageable, I've built two moderoids so far and the plastic quality is definitely a lot different than what I'm used to (Bandai, Koto) and it looks very toy-ish, definitely should paint them.
