>Raptor's unbeaten streak and became the first eishi to destroy the super-advanced stealth TSF
I mean, they had some losses in excercises too, even if they were at retarded ratios like 100:1. And I'm pretty sure this was the first time they deployed Raptors in TSF to TSF combat, aside from TE. Do any of the Infinities go down? Even so, a 7:1 kill ratio on other 3rd gens piloted by aces is a monstrous performance, especially considering the Walken squad was full of second-class soldiers only in it for the Visa.
Wonder what the USA did with all those fallen Raptors? I doubt they'd just leave the wrecks there, since their technology is so guarded. Think there was some political mumbojumbo we didn't get to see post-coup?

>And I'm pretty sure this was the first time they deployed Raptors in TSF to TSF combat, aside from TE.
So what? Raptors were specially created to counteract other vehicles, and if the Infinities played up the terrorist chaos and unmanned enemy vehicles, then the 66th entered into battle with their "natural" enemy. That's just, in terms of price/quality ratio, the result is not very impressive. After all, expensive and complex stealth lost not the Top 3, but one of the most lame combat vehicles of the third generation.

>Think there was some political mumbojumbo we didn't get to see post-coup?
I doubt it. The basis of Japan's policy, even in Muv-Luv, is licking dirty American ass. Judging by TSFIA, Yuuhi's rule has not changed the situation with the fundamental dependence on the United States.

Perhaps, but even if they managed to get their hands on the wreckage of the Raptor, then, judging by the tests of the Silent Eagles in 2004, this did not affect further events in any way.

However, as a basis for fan fiction, the idea is not bad.

If European Typhoons competed with the F-35 during the Japanese competition, then, apparently, stealth is not such a successful feature of the TSF.
>>
The mistake people make of stealth features, in real life and fiction, is that it's some foolproof technology that lets you ninja around and nothinpersonnel the enemy.

And then you realize in an arm's length furball things go sideways for all parties and all that truly matters is who achieves target lock first. All combat approaches a coin flip outcome as you trend towards the merge.

A friend is diving into Muv-Luv and he asked if it's something that will deeply affect him with a message (like say EoE or Stalker). I kind of reduced it to being mainly a journey and an experience than something that has something to say. That's how I've always thought of it, and I feel that that is mainly what it is, which helps excuse the intertwined and everpresent tropey characters and harem elements even when it gets serious and they wouldn't typically belong. But I remembered that interview with Kouki: https://youtu.be/eciyTn7HjyA

The first I completely get, thats the very fundamental message of Muv-Luv, but the rest eludes me. That's probably natural as I'm not Japanese, but I wonder what your thoughts on it are. How does the meaning in their names play into this mythology he's talking about? Is it anything more than character trait association, or does it play into actual story? Like would different characters actions or relationships take on a different meaning due to what he's talking about? I'd like to understand what he meant when he said he was telling Japan's founding mythology through the modern school setting. It sounds like it could add a lot more depth and meaning to the experience.

>I'd like to understand what he meant when he said he was telling Japan's founding mythology through the modern school setting

...well that does explain some things about the endgame. Literally Susano'oh obliterating Yamata-no-Orochi and all that wild shit.

I've been through this rodeo a bit playing BlazBlue and Okami, you kinda pick up on bits and pieces of the old Japanese myths through those games among other more obvious sources.

the various Han Chinese subgroups diverge in all these ways too, a northern chink from around shanxi somewhere versus a southern chink from fujian would have different genes (be taller, paler vs shorter and darker) and eat different foods (millet vs rice), might follow different religions (Taoism, Buddhism, Christian converts etc), speak different languages (the various sinitic languages that diverged from old and middle chinese) but they're still memed as one nation

even in Europe you could make a case for subdividing many European "nation-states" into separate nations

the Americans (bar the indigenous tribes) aren't distinct enough from each other to be called separate nations especially not since all the Irish/German/Polish/etc descended fags just memed themselves into the white race and the blacks don't remember jack shit about Africa

Muv's niche enough that the western fans just ignore they exist and complained about them in YouTube chat when they were brought at the C99 event. No big BOYCOTT MUVLUV spergouts on Twitter

"Winter" release announced about a month or so ago? The English Muv-Luv Twitter page has "Total Eclipse soon!" in their title but who knows if it'll get delayed again. Model kit reissues got announced for the SU-37 and Yui's Take, they'll be coming out in June iirc
As for other stuff, some new Resonative CGs got shown off, a new Euro Front project got announced with a teaser, and someone's been (machine) translating Schwarzesmarken side content. It's a much smaller fin, not so much of a "commander's antenna".
>Carrier capable
Wonder what exactly makes a TSF carrier capable? They all take off using catapults and can land pretty much vertically, so it's not a runway issue. Still, a Take seems like the worst possible TSF to make carrier-based, since it needs constant maintenance and a whole spa day at the hangar after even being exposed to sunlight. They'd pack 2 Takes in a carrier and the rest of the hangar space would be dedicated to spare parts. Wouldn't a Shiranui make more sense for this role since it's pretty much a low-spec Take?
>>
>>20546335
All that matters is that canonically the US Navy still uses different TSFs than the US Army for reasons. Various bits of text say shit about STOL capability on certain earlier gens no matter how little sense that seems to make with the way TSFs fight even in Schwarzesmarken.

Welp, someone's got a death wish. You don't have to rush to yoru JFK friends so fast Lilia... Wonder if we've considered nuking the shit out of the hive? We're already using nukes closer to Seattle, why not just saturation bomb the shit out of JFK?

What the fuck is that, it sounds ridiculous, Is that a real Japanese name? Why is Hibiki surprised to see a red when he's been talking with Tsukoyomi a ton? Not to mention the friggin shogun. Anyways, Makabe still doesn't have mouth flaps. I'm beginning to think this was intentional
>They want to poach Hibiki
"Come over here and wear the bitch coat, you'll sit in the cuck bench right next to Shirogane". This makes me wonder though, are the Tsukuyomi sisters the only uptight IRG members? Seems like no one else cares about the formalities, meanwhile Mana was slapping Tama for touching the Take's foot

Absolutely based, once again proving she has the biggest balls out of anyone in Seattle. Makabe is talking mad shit about Meiya for someone within range of both Marimo and Takeru

True, but then you have to admit that the Raptor is unsuccessful, in terms of price / quality, TSF. A complex and expensive combat vehicle that is not able to demonstrate any super-advantages in real combat in comparison with conventional 3rd generation TSF.

The Raptors and US forces in general were pretty heavily outnumbered, in real combat that fucks with your performance pretty goddamn hard. Not to mention the actual number of raptors deployed was pretty small so the few losses to fuckery around 207 and muh denka mattered a lot more . They lost, what, 3 possibly 4 raptors there alone? If those were the only raptors lost that'd put the 7:1 up to 21 to 28:1, even if they lost one or two elsewhere they could still be in a 14:1 or higher range excluding the glowie fuckery.

What are we using the G-elements for, more railguns? Are we gonna end up with better guns than the Alt timeline? That said, this felt like a final episode. Nearly every plot thread has been solved, Hibiki essentially got his "Happy ever after" with Yuzu, Lilia got closure. The only remaining unsolved issues are Ikaruga's plot and Marimo', which are basically the same plotline.
>Post-credits scene
Okay, so he never learned about Sumika in Unlimited, and by his wording it can't be one of the squad. Was that... Kasumi? I guess that final shot with the BETA was to remind us that they still exist?
>Final thoughts
I really enjoyed TDA so far, even if its not by the same author. While it had some dull moments (Especially the Hill S-link arc) overall it was a ton of fun, and the characters grew on me. It's an interesting take on the setting, a clever way to keep making ML content while also maximizing suffering. That said, I was really surprised at losing NO ONE in the hive capture. I guess we lost... Lt. Hill? And Knives 2? They don't even have sprites. You could have at least killed off Ironside or something, dude's clearly an NPC. Maybe they're saving all the casualties for the final episode? Speaking of which, is there a projected release date? When did 03 come out? How much time passed between each installment?

Some anons told me to watch "Last Divers" next, what is it exactly? Is it a TDAverse sidestor?

By the way, Sagiri still a shit. I hope that random Carrier that popped up in the post-credits scene did so right on his squad

That brain was Sumika. The JFK was carrying the Yokohama Hive Reactor on-board. It's why the BETA went after the ship, why the Hive grew so fast, and why the Hive was capturing and experimenting on people the same way the Yokohama Hive was.
>>
>>20549040
Is this confirmed or just deduction? I suspected as much, which would also explain how they got a Hive up and running so fast. >>
>>20549057

>>
>>20548858
>I wonder if he's actually a big dick pilot
He's the one who saved Isumi Akira at the beginning of Inheritance, and he fought in the defence of Kyoto in Teito Moyu. Ikaruga's one of the top pilots in Muv Luv.
>>
Come to think of it, how good a pilot is Meiya really?
>>
>>20549088
Better than most pilots, Takeru's speedrun training plus learning from his inputs helped the squad a ton. Not to mention she was holding back the superordinate for a while, and before that had been holdign the line against a gorillion BETA alone. She's defintiely ace tier and performs some of the most impressive feats in the series, but she's also piloting an XM3'd purple Take so that probably plays a role too

>not as good as Tsukuyomi and probably not as good as Yui.
Tsukuyomi's only feat is beating Sagiri, while she was in a red Take and he was in a Shiranui, possibly damaged from his previous fight against Walken. Does Yui even have any feats? Yuuya had never trained with swords, was using an inferior TSF, and he wasn't used to the controls, and he still did okay against her in a swordfight
>>
>>20549045
Most likely a fake-out for future plot twist. They will bring back 00-unit somehow. Remember that the only way for the loop to end was for them to get together and it doesn't forbid 00-unit to function as a quantum computer.
>>
>>20549144
This is getting into quantum fuckery territory, but the way I assumed it works is that all the timelines are running in parallel, it's not just a single "instance" that keeps getting reset but rather infinite instances happening at the same time.
>>
>>20549136

>>20549146
No. Kouki seemed to explicitly state that the loops were sequential instead of concurrent and individual loop began as another ended. Sumika prevented that exact timeline from branching out as it should and even yuuko stated that takeru's isekai memories "happened" and not just delusions.

That doesn't make much sense considering what we've been shown; for instance how would going back to Extra to gwt the formulas work? Besides, wouldn't Unlimited Takeru get flashbacks from the other Unlimited routes too then? Not to mention the fact that Alt Takeru is "made" from bits and pieces of other Takerus, he's not the same Takeru that has experienced all those timelines. So what happened to the looping Takeru then? Also AF existing while Altverse continues. Not to mention Alt Takeru only remembers experiencing three years post cancellation, you'd think he'd remember going up to 2005. Unless for some reason Sumika chose to not use the memories of the most skilled Takeru so far when building her own.
>>
>>20549153
I believe you, but wheere is it stated? There's very little info about Tsukuyomi's skills. Hell, for all we know Takeru's training helped Meiya get even better than her, there's only one real Tsukuyomi fight in the series.

The real question is, how good is Mikoto? She's obviously the worst in the squad, but does that still pur her above most other pilots? How far up the ace scale is she?
>>
>>20549168
You seem to have some big misunderstanding of how muv-luv work
>how would going back to Extra to gwt the formulas work
Extra is a separate timeline from the beta timeline. He just jumped timeline per usual. If he wanted (and was able to) he could have jumped to a beta timeline without s00mika and all that jazz
>Besides, wouldn't Unlimited Takeru get flashbacks from the other Unlimited routes too then? Not to mention the fact that Alt Takeru is "made" from bits and pieces of other Takerus, he's not the same Takeru that has experienced all those timelines
Yes, because those memories already happened and their quantum information got dispersed through the multiverse as explained in the story. Alt Takeru just happened to attract the wanderin which were most relevant to him. He IS the one who experienced all those loops.
>So what happened to the looping Takeru then?
He got pulled back to Oct 22nd for another loop.
>Also AF existing while Altverse continues
It's a separate timeline
>Not to mention Alt Takeru only remembers experiencing three years post cancellation, you'd think he'd remember going up to 2005.
It's unconfirmed but sumika seemed to only gather bits of takeru where he didn't go out with any other girls and you have to considered the amount of G-bombs dropped in Lucifer probably pulled some trick as well.
Sumika didn't reconstruct takeru intentionally either so we can assume that all of the mega-skilled takerus were in already relationships with someone else which weren't unconsciously picked up by the brain

It doesn't matter, because, based on the data of the ratio of victories in the trials, the stealth-TSF should have had absolute superiority over the aging Japanese Shiranui, however...

>They lost, what, 3 possibly 4 raptors there alone?

>Ikaruga is deploying. Seems strange for a "chessmaster" guy to take to the frontlines
Why? The presence of the commander on the front line is not mandatory, however, it is not prohibited. In this case, there is also a moral factor - a demonstration to the troops that the commander is with them, as well as a demonstration of new weapons as achievements of his leadership.
In addition, Ikaruga is one of the best pilots of Muv-Luv`s Japan, unlike, for example, Lelouch from Code Geass.

Wasn't 66th battalion Hunter is deploying both Raptors and Strike Eagles? IIRC A Squadron that Walken commands have 4 Raptors and 8 Strike Eagles. Losses among F-15E might have been reasons for such low ratio.

>Takatsukasa was a branch of Fujiwara and one of the five regent houses that could be Sekkan, and eventually one of the daughters was wife of the shogun and they let her brother take the Matsudaira name
>in ML's wacky nuShogunate where the ranks changed after their version of the Meiji Restoration, Takatsukasa is one of the five regent houses that can be shogun and Fujiwara is a fudai (yellow) house
Well alright then

Also Saionji is a northern Fujiwara branch but for relevance's sake their heir was the Emperor's close friend and was part of overthrowing the shogunate before becoming Prime Minister in the 1900s. He was also enough of an opponent to the military in early Showa to be one of the guys targeted in the 2-26 Incident. So the Alterverse Meiji Restoration really is some weird ass kumbaya shit where everyone suddenly decided to agree with each other for some reason.

Kujo is a Fujimura main branch too, that had shoguns in the Kamakura shogunate. I have no idea whatsoever what the name Koubuin comes from but then Ikaruga, Tsukuyomi, etc. is just getting into the stuff pulled from myth rather than history.

kouki's explaination might be official, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense. the parallel processing yuuko goes with (through quantum entanglement) implies that they are concurrent events. marimo dying in extra-verse also imply that they are concurrent events. the fact that time passes in both time-lines at a equal rate. "come back in 3 days" and all that ALSO says its concurrent. we are given no reason at all to think that extra-verse is in any way different then the other loops he has experienced. indeed the only reason he can't run into the other takeru in alt is that he is food already. and sumika specifically pulls in takeru's she didn't win because she's a spiteful whore who can't cope with the fact that takeru could love someone else then her, I.E she's taking him back from them to win. or more likely in timelines where sumika DOES get penis'd by takeru she cannot fathom a universe where they do not end up together. (she says as much in extra) so the quantum call for help ends up falling on deaf ears.

Nah, they still make a lot of sense even if Takeru doesn't know the truth about the brain. His entire squad, save Meiya, died at Operation 21st. Meiya herself is effectively dead as she needs to become Yuuhi. Yuuko and Kasumi have already left Earth. He and Marimo are in opposing parts of the Japanese government. He basically has nobody left from Yokohama that he's even willing to consider an (from his perspective) inanimate brain in a tube a precious ally from his past.

I wonder, considering the relatively equal distances between mainland Asia and Taiwan/Japan, why is it that, to our knowledge, Taiwan has yet to be invaded by the BETA yet has been in closer proximity to BETA-held territory longer? Are the UFC culling operations really that effective or is the Superior purposefully directing the BETA toward Japan for plot device reasons?

The whole papa Ayamine thing is about how his choice to try to protect civilians contributed to the huge losses they took retreating from Korea which was a factor in keeping them from repelling the subsequent invasion of Japan a few months later. The other thing that screwed up their defense was a supertyphoon which kept the navy almost entirely out of action, prevented them from transporting forces to Kyushu, and stopped them from evacuating civilians (which explains why the death count is so massive)

I remember the blatant incompetence of the NIPS military and the inadequacy of the civilian leadership, who failed, over decades, to prepare Japan for the BETA invasion.

However, we are talking about Taiwan (by the way, what is the status of Hainan?), which, in fact, manages to keep aliens from invading under similar conditions (a similar story with Britain, but it clearly indicates the extraordinary effectiveness of European operations to intercept BETA hordes).

It turns out that the UFC turned out to be more effective than the imperial army and more organized than the shogun government?

As random thoughts related to horribly mistranslating 戦術機:

So obviously the machine translate derp logic for "tactical aircraft" is that hikouki and sentoki are used for aircraft (the former is something to the effect of literally "flying machine") so by extension 機 is used as the short term for a plane and you get it shitting out tactics+aircraft. Oddly enough this carries into the logic for how the Codex addresses the usage of 機 to generically refer to an individual or number of flying humanoid robot things (historically in this genre often translated as "machine", "unit", rarely in some contexts "robot", or if you really want some spicy garbage, "mechs" or "mecha") with presumably the back logic that MMUs, TSFs, TSAs, and SAFs are universally "Surfacecraft" or some shit although that's never stated anywhere.

Which is interesting, but first off when it's referring to things like the Shiranui Second or YF-22 and they use "Craft 1" and "Craft 2" it sounds dumb as shit and not just because we're used to "Unit 1" and "Unit 2" from a purely anime background, and the real kicker is that this is a perfect scenario for the alternative interpretation of 機 as a counter, so it would be much less awkward to just have "YF-22 #1". To give an example of a sentence that this really does work, "Shiranui Second #1 uses General Electronics engines and #2 is equipped with Prats & Whitney engines"

What I'm less sure of but have started to believe is that while 戦術機 is some absolute shit to put into regular speech rewriting any given instance of 機.outside of the above scenario to "TSF" or whatever the applicable abbreviation is (eg. MS, VF, etc.) should be possible and sound a lot less fucking stupid with the notable exception of mixed groups. In SRW just call those fucking robots because it's fucking in the name of the game, but when you have TSFs and TSAs being referred to collectively (or robots and planes, or tanks or whatever) then maybe we actually need a more generic term.
>>
>>20551628
Cool. Heisig called 機 "mechanism" so its appropriate to use it to refer to any entity in the story as "tactical thing" which is accurate since the important part here is "tactical" and not how a specific vehicle is called.

Insignificant Yankees may try to justify their failure by referring to the combat difficulties during the coup, but we have an example from the TDA, where Sagiri and Walken again came together in battle and the brave Murican, piloting a Raptor, again failed to win, now Rafale.

Well you certainly couldn't make a horror story in muv-luv universe except the most basic slaptick gory stuff ever. The only horror-esque segment in ML is ptsdextra which is more psychological thriller than horror (also what muv-luv does best). If you can somehow create a scenario where only grunt-tier strain of BETA such as soilder/warrior are present, then maybe.
>>
>>20551748
That's mainly what I was thinking when I said that. Just regular soldiers fighting warrior and soldier-class beta in the base. Separated on and your own, moving down hallways and rooms with beta stragglers moving about.
>>
>>20551754
I'm surprised age hasn't even approached such an alluring concept all these years. I mean we know alternative 1-2 had captured BETAs to study them, right? It's not a momentous task to write a plot about small strain BETA breach inside a research base during the early years of Alternative Program or something.

Sadly nips are too infatuated with balloon-for-tits waifus to appreciate a great idea like that.

"Infantry vs Grappler: The game" would be legendary
The problem with muv-luv is, in every encounters with BETA, they always rushed us so fast that we barely had time to breathe and get to know how individual BETA think and act. I'd like to see a long, drawn out fight with the aliens that is more up close and personal to possibly see what goes through each martian crabfuck's mind (assuming they have one) when they attack us. An Alien Isolation bootleg where you had to evade a group of warrior/soldier and even deal with the aggressive survivors would be neat.

With them branching out and trying to get people to make fan works for them that they can absorb into the IP, canonize, and make money off of, I wish they would provide the tools and guides for their new engine so that people could potentially make things like this. I'm assuming at least that the new engine doesn't require you to ritualistically sacrifice your loved ones like rUGP did.

The existing open source engines are more than sufficient for anything anyone but programming autismos are going to make as a doujin VN, that's fucking silly.
>>
>>20552811
I think half the enjoyment of the series is in visuals. The camera panning, zooming, and shaking, the BG rotations, the sprites moving about in the scene, the various effects, etc...
If you want basic static placements, then sure, there's plenty of open source engines out there already, but the presentation goes a long way. A fan game without all of that would feel wrong, no matter how good the writing was.

They invented TSFs because of the moon war and the Laser Class. The Phantom first deployed in 1974, Operation Palaiologos was in 1978.
>>
>>20552844
Uh no. TSFs was a repurposed design after they halted the development of low-gravity based mechs to counter the BETA on the moon. Humans didn't really develop any known hive op-specific hardwares other than the susanoos as of 2001.

I don't think I've ever seen an anime with a second season announced have interest die so fast after the last episode aired. I have come to the theory that the most plausible reason for age running out of ideas is because they add so many side girls to every story they can no longer come up with appealing bishoujo that don't heavily overlap with ones they've already used.

Yashiro retaining her memories and Takeru having physical reactions to his other-world friends (which yashiro saw) are her gifts to yashiro after everything she's done, unconsciously or consciously. There are no rules preventing this.

He explicitly states that he's glad that he went through what he did because of the lessons it taught him. Resetting his memories is putting him all the way back to square one.
>>
Memories being lost or retained is a non-issue, it's the character development. If he retained his growth through Altered Fable, and didn't just have brief peeks of emotions surfacing, it would have been excellent. He doesn't even need to be conscious of it and the lessons he's learned, he just needed to exhibit that growth. It would be a nice touch to see all the other characters reacting to how much he's grown up, to see him face life with a fervor they've never seen and take his relationships and future seriously. It would have come full circle if he became the man that they lean on and feel affectionate for, not because he's the protagonist of a vn and it's par for the course, but because he now is someone they can rely on is someone that they would genuinely fall for.
>>
>>20554449

Takeru's intentions were always to save humanity and return to his homeworld which were satisfied in the end. He never wanted to become some kind of super skilled TSF eishi because he got a hard-on from killing the aliens.

>>

>means he didn't change at all from the start
Are you fucking retarded? I was obviously talking about Alternative where takeru's initial wish was to save humanity, not whatever the fuck you are thinking.
None of the version of takeru shown in the franchise is "the" takeru (except the one in Extra if kouki considers it the main variant of takeru). We are talking about the meta and poetic sense of Alternative ending where he got his wish partially fulfilled after trying his best. He couldn't resist being erased anyway since his fate was sealed from the beginning so you don't have to tell me it's some deus ex machina or some shit.
>>
>>20554471
He changed through alternative also.
> None of the version of takeru shown in the franchise is "the" takeru
But end-of-alternative Takeru is the one whose wishes Sumika fullfiling. And HE wished to return or, lately, stay in alternative branch. Never he wished to be erased, and since Kasumi has her memory intact thanks to Sumika, why would Takeru's be erased?
>>
>>20554477
After all the traumas takeru was put through it would be surprising if he didn't want some rest at the end of the day. Surely he would have accepted the harsh reality of his childhood friend selfishly ravaging the lives of many people and continued the unending fight with the BETA alongside yuuko, but in end we saw him warming to the prospect of being deleted from the timeline. Throughout the story takeru even repeatedly asked yuuko to help him return to his homeworld so i don't get why some people thought it was out of nowhere ffs.

Honestly weak, Takeru has gotten over his petty bullshit by the ending and would 100% overcome what he went through if he kept his memories. it's also shown what a Takeru with PTSD would be like when he goes into Extra after the CHOMP. The people all around him are concerned with how different he is and not like his usual naive self. I do agree that him remembering a little bit more of Alt would've been nice and having a scene of him saying his final goodbye to the Alt world while in Extra and promising them that he'll live a happy life would've been nice. The ending to me is just too much like Extra and doesn't do much for the characters besides it being a healing ending after all that happened at the end of Alt.
