***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And remember to report any shitposting and spam to keep the thread clean and civil.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

==GM GROUPBUILD==

Build and customize a mobile suit from the GM family of mobile suits in any way you can imagine! That means any suit that either has "GM" in the name or in its model number is A-OK to use. This includes
>Normal OYW GMs and their variants (ie. Sniper, Cannon, Interceptor)
>Post-OYW GMs like the Powered GM or GM Quel
>GM II/GM IIIs
>Suits from the RGM family of suits (Jegans, Jestas, Heavyguns, Jamesguns, Javelins)
>SD GMs
Conversely, this excludes:
>UC suits without the RGM model number (ie: Nemo (MSA-003), Gun Blastor (LM111E03))
>GM equivalents from other Gundam timelines (Daughtress, Windam, Adele, etc)
You can still source parts from other kits for your builds, but the basis of your entry has to be at least 50% GM when it comes to the original parts used. The 50% limitation refers only to the body itself, you're free to do what you wish with your suit's equipment.

Send all photos (Both WIPs and Finished photos, with multiple angles/poses) and a short description of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com once you're finished.

START - 11/1/21
END - 2/28/22

The peg is pretty solid so it supports the weight of the pod fine, the issue is that it connects to a hole in the side and the weight causes it to turn downwards on its own.

hi /m/ I got the new Initial D AE86 model kit and it is my first time doing anything like this.
I got a cheap model kit tool set on amazon and GSI Creos Aqueous colors and Mr. Color colors and the hobby shop people told me I can't mix and match colors which I get but I apparently can't use a paint brush for the Mr. Color colors? Also, in pic related, the places where it says to color are only the places I circled in red and not the entire piece right? Sorry for being a noob, any help is appreciated.
>>
>>20409017
>Aqueous colors
those are water based so you shouldn't mix them with regular Mr. Color since those are lacquer. You shouldn't paint lacquer with a brush because of how fast it dries. I don't understand the last question.
>>
>>20409017
make sure you actually sand off the chrome plating on the points of contact before gluing so the plastic will actually bong and snap together. I don't want you to come back here tomorrow crying WAAAH THESE PIECES WONT FIT TOGETHER EVEN THOUGH I DIDNT READ THE FUCKING INSTRUCTIONS WAAAH
>>
>>20409070
For that top right circle, I only paint where I circled and not let's say, where it's pointing to 14 correct?

>>
So, the airbrush hasn't even arrived yet and I'm already pondering just biting the bullet and buying some mr. color instead of my original cheap acrylics plan. I'm getting RGB, White, Black, Orange Yellow, and some metallics. Am I fine buying regular metalics, or should I dish a bit out more for GX Metal Black and GX White Silver? I'm already going broke anyways. They only have regular C9 Gold, so that one will have to do.

How long does it usually take for monthly gunpla restocks to reach the US?
>>
>>20409275
depends on the store. if your local store doesn't order anything then they won't get anything.
>>
>>20409275
in normal times, 1-2 months. in current times it's probably more like 2-3. maybe longer.

>>
Shitposting aside, I've read the fucking monthly restock, how does it works? Do I order on a Bandai site or what?
>>
>>20409335
No, that's just the schedule for when they leave the factories and hit retailers (in japan at least).
You order like normal, the list is meant to tell you when the kit is likely to get back on preorder (or in case of backorders, when it gets shipped).
>>
>>20409345
So I should order from jap sites, is HLJ any good?
>>
>>20409142
don't forget surfacer and matte/gloss clear too
>>
>>20409370
Yup, I've actually already bought the matte/gloss clear. There was no stock anywhere local, so found I Super Clear GX 113 and 100 at an indonesian shop in shopee. Shipping is free, so it was actually pretty cheap, I just hope the seller packs it well enough.

They also have Mr Color Thinner and Primer Surfacer 1000 where I'm buying the paints from. Sadly there's no Leveling Thinner or Surfacer 1500, so I'm going to make do with those.
>>
>>20408975
I used the back head of a gbn base gundam. It's not a perfect fit but pretty close.
>>
>>20409359
HLJ and Amiami are pretty good in general, yes.
If you want more in depth opinions, ask other anons, I haven't bought plamo in years sadly.
>>
>>20409142
The regular metallics are fine. The GX line is just lacquers with a slightly less toxic formula. Clear or metallic green is good to have too for eyes. When I started airbrushing I made the mistake of ordering tons of paint that I never use, like flat variants of colors before I realized I could just make the gloss ones flat by applying however much matte coat I want. Now I order based on what my next build is planned to be (which colors I plan to use or want to try out).

Yes those do appear to be reprints of the 80s kits. One of the nice things about gunpla is that very few kits aren't reprinted, although if you want an obscure or old kit, you might be waiting awhile.
>>
>>20409851
I haven't built mine yet but apparently you can just be careful with it and it's fine, or if you're really paranoid about it, you can pin it with a brass rod to fix it

So are high grade kits the best for playing around with? I'm planning on buying and building a Wing Zero for my younger cousin for Christmas since he really liked the transformation.

This left me with a mixed feelings. On one hand, some aspects of transformation looked pretty cool (despite being a partsformer), dyno soldier and completed humanoid robot looked pretty cool. On the other, completed dyno form looked meh and overall quality isn't great too - tons of hollow parts, stickers stickers, ffs! Can't they make a waterslides too, like with Obsolete kits? and ugly seams. Worst of all is that you can't paint and keep combining aspect together, because it will scratch a lot of paint. Overall if this isn't a big kit and costs 4k yen at max then it's fine, but I have a feeling that it will cost twice as much.

Ehh I'm not surprised. The Moderoid Godmars used a lot of partsforming when it came to the limb bots, and Gaia doesn't even fit inside Sphinx. I think when it comes to combiners this line prioritizes the final form rather than the individual components.
>Hope Bandai pick up and make a SMP
Keep in mind SMPs aren't always perfect changes too. Stuff like Voltron had optional parts to use either keep the lion legs on the limbs or go for a more anime-accurate look, and look at what happened with ChoRyuJin.

You're gonna need a P100 full face mask rated for organic solvents and even then lacquer solvent carcinogens and neurotoxins can get absorbed through skin and any mucus membrane.

This is only a problem if you're 1) huffing paint or 2) painting with lacquer for extended periods of time every day (e.g. painting with lacquer for a living). The average person painting with lacquer for a hobby who takes basic, reasonable precautions will not be exposed at a level enough to cause cancer or even harmful effects. Moreover, you don't need a full face mask, although a quality mask rated for organic solvents should be used. Using goggles is more than enough to avoid eye irritation.

Not to doubt your words but are there any real cases when a painter that works like every day on his kits but wears a respirator gas mask with appropriate filters and painting booth gets some serious health issues? I've read only of one russian dude who was painting right inside his house whithout wearing any protective gear, he was painting like literally inside his room, then opened a window to ventilate a room for a while and that's basically all he done. He said that eventually he developed an allergy to the thinner (and he was using hardware lacquer thinner as far as I know) so he had to scratchbuild a paint booth. I can't find the forum right now but he was fine besides that IIRC.
>>
>>20412144
From a kit? No. But working 8 hours a day in an areospace or automotive paint booth (lacquers are illegal in most use cases now due to emissions, so a literal non issue) and you definitely will have issues.
>>
>>20412211
>implying even a single person here paints for 8 hours a day
It'd still be a miracle if it'd be 8 hours per month. Most people here seem to just masturbate over new hi-veee gundam deliveries instead of actually painting.
>>
>>20412270
>It'd still be a miracle if it'd be 8 hours per month.
I'm painting around 3-4 hours a day almost each day, but with pauses. Like painting each day for 1-2 weeks, then 1-3 week pause, though back when I was painting a certaing large kit it took me almost 1.5 months of every day painting

There's an anon (anons?) complaining about snap models in pretty much every Gunpla/Plamo General. Are there any Gunpla's that aren't snap?
>>
>>20412144
There are quite a few old-school Gunpla (japs) and and warhammer (ameriburgers) that developed some health problems later in life that definitely could be traced back to scale modeling but the question is how much of it was because of paint fumes, how much of it was epoxies or resin dust, how much it was just predispostion to certain conditions etc...

tolerances for fumes also vary wildly. like nobody would accuse itsagunpla of being a snowflake but he wears basically like a full-on helmet because fumes really fuck up his eyes etc.

i would say in general the only absolutes are keeping pets away from lacquer fumes and wearing a resp if you're doing resin kits. you really really don't want resin dust in your lungs.

It's a great kit and one of my favorite RGs
However, the Funnels should either be glued togethr or up on display, because they will fall off at times if you're not careful
Also the kit is just a bit back heavy and the knees are a little weak in supporting that back weight, so you have to kind of pose it in a way so it doesn't fall backwards or use the stand
But it's a great kit overall. you will spend a lot of time on the legs though

People like you are such fags, I literally spray my lacquers with no mask while I smoke a cigarette, I only put a mask on if I’m doing a lot of parts in a row.
Also don’t even reply to me no matter what you have to say about your health I couldn’t care less doesn’t change the grand scale of your faggotry.
>>
>>20415006
that nigga probably wears a full STALKER cosplay to go to the store because the media told him to be scared of covid
>>
I do shots of lacquer thinner with breakfast every morning
>>
I literally cum lacquer into my gf and she's fine.
>>
So you guys are telling me your perfume isn't lacquer based? You all smell like shit, lacquer based perfumes are the only way to have the characteristic scent of a professional.
>>
I got the lacquer vaccine and now my balls are huge and I don't need a mask to paint.

I got an RG Hi Nu at Hobbytown for about 44$

it's really not that bad if you're not treating it like an action figure. there are some armor bits and stuff that you'll probably want to glue.

the blue will give you precision, but the red will give you strength.
>>
>>20415900
>Top one
>Blade too big
>Rolls off the table and stabs you in the foot

>Bottom one
>Small blade perfect for dealing with nubs
>Doesn't roll
>Even has a pointer

Bottom Chads always win.

thanks for getting me into the hobby boys, im trying my first rg with the eva kit

how often do your nippers break? im considering god hands but it's as expensive as another kit
>>
>>20416106
>how often do your nippers break?
never if you use them properly.
>>
>>20416106
You can make your nippers last by buying a cheap set of sprue cutters and using those to make the first cut away from the piece.
>>
>>20416144
im cutting the gate as close to the runner as possible, then doing another cut near the piece, but i only have a pair of mr hobby snippers, ill go get some cutters from home depot tomorrow for the sprues then

Top if you're a red blooded, stong American (diabetic and obese)
Bottom if you're a queer and effeminate European (skinny due to being emaciated by AIDs)
>>
>>20415900
top if you like buying heavily marked up dollar store garbage that stresses the first kit it's used on and needs to be tossed before you're done for one to two more.
bottom if you enjoy a purpose built knife for your craft, not designed for scrapbooking and other things that require a vertical blade, and if you like a nice long life of blade with quality non-stressing sharpness

I've got a question here.

Can someone do a comparison of the HG/RG RX-78, the Mechanic Collection Getter Robo, and the HG Infinity Mazinger-Z?

I'm just really curious how they look together.

Anyone use Vallejo Mecha paints? What's up with the Pure Black paint? It seems to have a rubbery finish to it?

Also, if I aim to paint a piece black, but it's already primed with a black primer, is there any point in painting over it again?
