Blame Tomino for he ordered for the change of color, and also the long range Fin Funnel and some other gimmicks for the Nu.

> デザインも新設定が加えられ、新武装の「ロングレンジフィン・ファンネル」が装備されている。また、カラーリングは「機動戦士ガンダム」の監督、富野由悠季氏の平和の願いを込めたトリコロールのマーキングが施される。さらに、「ν(ニュー)ガンダム」ならではのギミックも搭載予定となっている。

It kinda makes sense. Long range missiles being obsolete was the reason MSs were made in the first place. Now that there's a way to accurately attack at a long distance, Nu could just sit back and let the funnel quietly do its work. Like what Elmeth did when it debuted.

Yes? Not only is that what Banrise has already been doing all along with it's other statues, but it only makes sense that if you're going to spend exorbitant amounts of money to build something that you build something popular in order to draw bigger crowds and return a bigger amount on that initial investment. Nu Gundam is pretty consistently one of the most popular designs in the franchise, and often comes in as the single most popular design. Above the original design, Char's Zaku, the Zeta, Unicorn, Wing, Freedom or anything else. So it'd be the one that'd draw the biggest crowd.

As much as I like robots and Gundam I csnt help but see this as a steep decline in society. These are huge expensive monuments, things they used to build to celebrate great heroes and culture defining people. Now they're huge expensive children's toys. Building one as a novelty is neat but they're popping up every where. It shows a decline in culture when Gundams what you're willing to spend millions on celebrating rather than your own people.
>>
>>20150849

It's not a decline, it's just a change. We don't need statues to remember people anymore, because we have records that last more than a few decades and human memory isn't just passed down via stories that warp and change over time. So the statue has no real use as a way of remembering and honoring people.

You don't need statues to remember people. You honour them with them. Great men's deeds live in memory for a long time and writing made them almost immortal already. These are monuments to children's toys and that is a decline and a change.
>>
>>20150889
Eh, it’s not like monuments to fictional people is a new thing either. These are practically works of art for stuff people don’t believe in, kinda like the statue of David and Heracles just with colorful robots.

I actually prefer the nu gundam to not have funnels anyway, whenever i have a kit or a figure of one I take them off. I really love the new gundam because it feela like a NEW gundam, its what youd get if you designed the original in the early 90s. I guess the mk 2 also does that. Ht theres something about it thats off, maybe brcause it looks a bit heftier than the more evenly weighted original. Switching to the dark blue/black was also a fantastic choice and helps it feel amlmost timeless. Though I do like how with two funnel sets they look like angel wings.

The render is bright in general, a Lalaport is not THAT bright so taking that into account, the real one would look like navy blue.
>>
>>20150889
>>20150849
These are private monuments though (even if they have some state funding, those are provided with tourism money in mind). The people who funded these are not thinking about celebrating or honouring Gundam, they are just crunching numbers for marketing, publicity, branding and merchandise, the cultural legacy of the Gundam is just a currency to them.
The apparent lack of "real" monuments is just a product of the modern political scene, one is not replacing the other, it's just two different trends happening at the same time.
Truth is, this is just a product of capitalism (if that's a good or bad thing is up to you), but you won't point that out because you would rather blame something children something onions something something western society, eh?
>>
>>20150889

Great men's names live on; not their deeds. Their deeds tend to get warped with distance; both geographical and chronological. And the further back in time you go, the less of either it took do so. Books didn't help with that, because tended to be part of that game of Chinese Whispers, just perpetuating the exaggerations and misinformation rather than dispelling it. Books also don't convey visual information very well. That was the purview of paintings, or in the case of the greatest heroes, statues; because statues lasted longer.
