I don't want to say the dirty word, but it's the most "sensible" one to me, not making me suspend my disbelief to hell and back, as well as conveying the feel of its size properly.

The bigger the mech, the bigger the target you are. That's irrelevant if your mechs are just big spacecraft, but on land having a small profile is the way to survive. Even tanks are to this day used in a support role, and not pushed into urban areas where possible, since they can be flanked by all manner of anti-tank weapons.

Most of the Knightmares before the Lancelot and after the Ganymede were the best, they always looked super practical.

Then R2 comes along and Code Geass turns into a Super Robo basically, which I'm not gonna complain about because it's still great.

I hate gigantic mechs because their size contributes literally nothing to action, wolrdbuilding or even the cool factor most of the time. Like you can cut Gundams' size in half and literally nothing would change.

Early Code Geass was the perfect mecha action for me. Fast but with some weight, just the right size, mech are compact but still look like mechs rather than glorified power armor/cans with legs/baby carriers, combat mostly takes place on the ground.
But then everything went to shit and mechs took up up permanent residence in the air.

Your argument is stupid, buddy. I'm not saying there's no reasons to prefer smaller sized robots, just that you don't provide any. The logic of your argument is built on an assumption that smaller robots are better and that therefore the supposed lack of change to action, worldbuilding or "cool factor", when using a larger robot makes this change pointless, and the larger robots worse. Even if it were true that changing the size doesn't change those things that doesn't provide a reason to not use larger robots, just as it doesn't provide a reason to not use smaller robots. But it obviously isn't true, size is obviously going to change the way a robot interacts with its environment and therefore the construction of set pieces in the series. An Ingram doesn't interact with a building the way an Evangelion might. An Aestivalis doesn't interact with a human like a mobile suit can. A Zaku has to deal with a GM in a different way than it has to deal with a Ball. Scale changes the way the robots interact with things, maybe not with each other, if the size of the robots is roughly the same, but with everything else around them.

Source on that? The Atlas can't be 18 meters tall for one simple reason: a Commando can punch them in the head. I assume that tall light mechs like the Commando are 9 meters or so given the size of a human and the size of the head, and massive assaults like the Battlemaster and Atlas are maybe a little taller than that but FUCKING FAT.
