***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And to keep the thread clean and civil, please REPORT AND DO NOT REPLY to any shitposters and spammers that are trying to derail it. Your diligence helps to improve our general.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the site from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:

==ZAKU GROUPBUILD==

Build and customize a mobile suit from the Zaku family in any way you can imagine! Any suit that has the word "Zaku" in its name is fair game, meaning you can use any of the following:
>Standard UC Zakus such as the Zaku I or Zaku II
>Variants such as the Act Zaku, Desert Zaku, Zaku Tank, etc
>ZAKU Warriors and their variants from the Cosmic Era
>SD Zakus
This means you cannot use the following for the main part of your build
>Other Zeon/ZAFT mobile suits (ie: Goufs, Gelgoogs, GINNs)
>Zaku expies from the Universal Century (HiZack, Geara Doga, Den'an Zon, etc)
>Zaku equivalents from other Gundam timelines (Leos, Grazes, Borjanons, etc)
You can still source parts from other kits for your builds, but the basis of your entry has to be at least 50% Zaku (ie: Swapping out the bottom half of a Zaku II with a Dom to make a Zaku II High Mobility Test Type would be acceptable, but throwing a Zaku head onto a Dom won't cut it). The 50% limitation refers only to the body itself, you're free to do what you wish with your suit's equipment.

Send all photos (Both WIPs and Finished photos, with multiple angles/poses) and a short description of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com once you're finished. Additionally, please state whether your home board is /m/ or /toy/ when you're submitting your entry. This information will remain private and won't be referenced with submissions, I just want to know which /gpg/ each entry represents.

START: 7/16/21
END: 10/16/21

The RG unicorn full armor. I hate how it looks with all the weapons, but I can just pose it with only some of them.
I picked it mainly because I'm buying in a local store, and they didn't have many RG kits, but I still think it's pretty good.
Next time I'll probably buy the RG EVA 01 from hlj.

Got my zaku in today that I'm gonna use as my base for the group build. This will be my first time scratch building parts so I hope my eyes arnt to big for my stomach when it comes to my technical ability to make things.

My idea is to make a Zaku thats main purpose is bio warfare. I want to scratch build a whole new back pack with large gas tanks that will have tubing that runs along the zaku, dispensing the gas to various vents around the body. The hardest part I think is gonna be modifying the head to add a plague doctor like beak to it.

Sorry if this doesn't go here, but this is the Gunpla general, so I figured I'd post here rather than making a thread

What are some of the stranger Gunpla kits out there? They seem to be the ones that catch my interest the most. The less humanoid, or more oddly proportioned ones for example, like pic related.
I'm pretty new to this. I only built my first kit a few days ago (It was one of the digimon model kits. Looking to get a gunpla next)

is it feasible to snapbuild a kit, wait a few months, and then paint it? i imagine you would have to wash the parts as described in the OP guide, but it should be fine right?
i want to try this hobby but im moving in a couple months and dont want to paint until i've moved
>>
Nothing fancy here but I liked this build.
>>
>>19924561
The parts aren't going to rot by the time you want to paint them...
>>
>>19924561
A lot of people do that. Just make sure you clean the pieces thoroughly before painting.
>>
Question, there's a way to buy unwanted/extra parts online?
>>

A lot of people snapfit first on purpose and then paint. The assembly and disassembly prevents the eventual extra layer of paint from making some assembly too tight. You should take note of any parts that are hard to get out, particularly inserts and lens and such that don't have pegs you can push out from the other side and maybe leave them out of the snapfit kit.

Also, washing parts isn't really necessary unless they get sticky (residual plasticizer reacting to air over time), or its a resin kit (mandatory because mold release agent is harsher on them). You're not going to encounter either of these scenarios. If your kits get dusty just wipe them down with water or alcohol.
>>
>>19924561
I actually do this as my normal build process. I'll have months of just snapping and surface prepping then I'll bag up most of what I don't plan to paint right away in ziplock bags to keep the dust off them.
>>
>>19924561
Anon I have kits I snapbuilt literally over a decade ago in queue for painting eventually. It's not gonna rot.

How good are Volks kits? Seeing 1/144s pop up and I'm considering committing a war crime.
>>
>>19924692
They make the best FSS kits but their resin gundam kits take a lot more work than they're worth IMO
>>
>>19924699
Are the 1/144 FSS kits resin?
>>
>>19924328
Have fun with the RG Corn! Just be sure to follow the instructions VERY CAREFULLY. There are some pretty specific ways that you need to stack certain pieces with the psychoframe.

Also, you'll want to exercise the joints a little bit before assembling, especially the shoulder joints. A lot of hamhands have snapped the arms off because they tried to rotate them without giving the joins a brief workout first.
>>
>>19924707
Only the garage kits. If it says IMS (injection mold system) in the title then it's plastic. They actually announced some Gothicmade kits a few months ago and I am pumped as fuck for it.
>>
>>19924692
All the 1/144s are actually pretty good since they're relatively recent as far as IMS kits go. The only real bad things I heard are for the 1/100 versions of the Bang Doll and Black Knight.

You place an order for the kit and it appears in your private warehouse in backordered status. You can cancel this order whenever you want and you're not charged any money yet. Once the kit is back in order then you're automatically charged, the kit is placed in your warehouse and you can ship it whenever you want. If your payment system prohibits automated charges and you won't pay in couple of days or just simply don't have enough money then you can get in trouble, IIRC then ban you but you can request un-ban through support but it's better just not to allow this to happen.

As in the model’s feelings? Do you consider your models more of an entity with emotions, rather than a mobile suit meant to be piloted?

Yes, kinda. I sometimes feel bad when I leave kit for another day with head and chest completed, almost like it suffer as limbless torso. I can't fight with it, I tried however.

Finally finished up my first project ever, funnels were a massive pain and decided to do just three of them.
Really hate how the metallic grey turned out because it kept pooling no matter what I did. Also noticed the paint on the chest vents had flaked only after I topcoated. Overall though, I'm okay with it.

You should build whatever you want. However, I usually only have real passion for kits which are from media that I enjoy, or if I’m creating an original kitbash. I build kits from IBO, SEED, 00, and Wing because I do like the designs. However, I’m not really that excited about anything that isn’t from Universal Century. I like to build Evangelions because I love Evangelion. I’m excited about building a reverse trike because I enjoyed Death Stranding.

I'd think within reason it's still a good idea so long as you don't lock entire variants of kits behind the sets... which is what Bandai did by way of the IBO sets for example, where if you don't P-Bandai you have to buy 2 or 3 of them to make a Graze Ground Type IIRC

HG is 1/144, MG is 1/100 those kits in 1/100 scale would be very big, very expensive and would have a lot of stability problems, thats why there is not a MG kshatriya

Use as is, might need to adjust the pressure a bit. Also don't use that shit as a topcoat, buy real model quality gloss. It's "fine" as an intermediate coat. And make sure to thoroughly clean your airbrush afterwards cause any types of those rugged paints will glue up the works

No. That's a shitty lefty meme. Gunpla has always been marked up this way here. Bandai doesn't have any distro and refuses to get one. Revell marked up the bandai star wars kits the same way. Brexit didn't change the prices of anything I've noticed. It's mostly postage that changed and that's more on companies sending abroad than buying things locally. I personally like the building process. Painting can take time, yes, but the cutting out and sanding pieces is fun and kind of therapeutic
Painting just takes a long time and for some can be pretty daunting, with is understandable. It's not for everyone, but sometimes the kit feels more personal when you add a layer of paint to it, even if it's the exact same colors as the kit itself
Just please prime it. It'll take time, but just do it
