Bulky and Heavy suits or Sleek and Fast?I've been debating for years with my friend who prefers suits like Big O and the original MechaG, while I prefer more clean ones like Gundams or Kiryu.
>>19923940>Posts two of my favorite botsI like all types as long as I think they look cool. I wish we got more big boys though, sleeker/conventionally "cooler" designs seem to be more standard. Big O (all the bigs actually) and Imagawa's Giant Robo are incredible designs.
>>19923940Part of it depends on the height. If it’s Gundam-sized or smaller, more sleek designs feel appropriate, especially if they’re designed to mostly fly around. But when you reach Big O sized, the height and bulkiness should be emphasized. After all, what’s the use of a giant mech of it doesn’t feel, well, giant?
I have no problem with either
>>19923940Both are fine, but I love bulky shit that moves with actual weight, that's way harder to do convincingly than something going sanic fast. Big O and Giant Robo get me rock hard with that.
>>19924003I can appreciate the desire for proper weight(the gouf fight in 08th team is one of my favourite mecha fights ever), but I often tend to feel like there's a bit of overcompensation with spectacle vs realism. It's giant robots, I don't want to see Gypsy Danger struggling to raise a single fist, I want to see RX-78-2 getting dropkicked by a red Zaku.
>>19924011It isn't about realism at all anon, it's about sheer power
Sleek & fast. Much more interesting fight dynamics that way.
>>19924015right. Kind of adds to my point.
>>19923940I like both. What matters most is if they're done well.
>>19924011If you aren't going to account for scale why make them giant robots to begin with? You can achieve the same aesthetic effect sticking them in power armor without having to change the scale all that much. If it's something 30 or 100 meters tall it's not going to move around like a dude in the suit, depending on the work it may undermine whatever drama you're trying to create.
>>19923940I get in the mood for both but I prefer when mecha has at least some feeling of weight and scale to it otherwise why be a giant robot? Not everything needs to take it to Big O extremes though, but I like some things that do.
>>19923940Old school boxy bulk + guns.
>>19923940Big boys with weird proportions like big O/duo/venus/fau, shin getter 1 and mazinkaiser.
>>19923940I think it depends on the setting. But personally I have a weakness for transformable flying mecha with beam weaponry.
>>19923940box like, bulky also in camouflage
>>19923940Anyone as long as the story isn't pissing in the face of the audience like Yamato 2199 or Yamato 2202.
00s Red-Blue-Gold combiners with silver Greek Gods' faces.
>>19923940I like when a show commits to either one or the other and doesn't try to mix the two. For example, Pacific Rim 1 was great. Pacific Rim 2 was trash
>>19923940> which mecha style do you prefer?chungy
>>19930886Yeah Argevollen lost me on trying to mix gendums and wanzers.
