***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.

For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!

And to keep the thread clean and civil, please REPORT AND DO NOT REPLY to any shitposters and spammers that are trying to derail it. Your diligence helps to improve our general.

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post images whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting images.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data from images when they're uploaded to the website from your phone, including the orientation display tag. To fix this, save your images out separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the image for you.
One commonly used app that works well on Android:

--MECHA MUSUME GROUPBUILD--
Build and customize a mecha musume/female mecha kit to your stylings. Examples of mecha musume kits/lines include:
>Build Fighters Super Fuminas/Mobile Dolls/Figure-rise Standards/etc
>Frame Arms Girls
>Megami Devices
>A.T.K.Girls
>Aoshima's V.F.G.
Examples of female mechas include:
>Feminine mobile suits (Nobel Gundam, GN Archer, Farsia, Woundwort, etc)
>Female SDs (IE: Diao-chan Qubeley)
>Feminine LBXs (IE: Kunoichi, Pandora)
>Fei Yen
>Valsione
>Strelizia
You're free to do whatever else with your entry so long as you use any of those kits (or something similar) as a basis. If you're feeling ballsy, you can try kitbashing a MS with a female figure out of your own parts as well.

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

I'm working on a weeb custom build and didn't realize there was two ways to wear the katana. I'm kind of torn between both, the blade facing up is technically the best way but I like it facing down too
>>
>>19765519
id say go for the top one, it uses less wrist movement for drawing, which means that you wear the joint down less in the case of a giant robot

To be honest, down right was "invented" solely to make things harder to perform with pants on the head retarded explanation that it would show true skill to draw blade from such position. Essentially - tryhards of their era.

When you draw curved blade, one of advantages is that you can quickly turn it into swing. Getting rid of that is just silly.

Yes. They reprint REX commonly enough, but RAY's stupid to find and I seriously regret not getting it earlier.
>>
>>19765905
Bro I cant even find the REX, these niggas realy are making it hard to get one
>>
>>19765925
REX got a reprint a couple of years ago if not sooner than that. I think it's one of the most common reprints from Kotobukiya.

Speaking of reprints I just saw that the IMS 1/100 Bang Doll is getting one soon, which is great. A couple of the nonscale Takemikazuchis are getting them too. Lots of kits I regret not picking up on release are getting them over the next few months and I couldn't be happier. I wish Yui's Takemikazuchi was one of them, but I guess it doesn't matter since I'll paint it anyways and the kits are all the same as far as I know.
>>
How does MG Zeta Gundam compare to RG ? Is it as hellish ?

Looking forward to the upcoming Calamity. How's kits of a same grade? It looks like a good going all out build rather than the usual eh that'll do for a toy robot.

>>
>>19766019
If we're really gonna dream big, I wish they'd actually put out kits for the AC2 and AC2AA cover/intro ACs. Such good designs... Unfortunately AC kits are almost as dead as the franchise itself right now.

>>
>>19765519

The difference is in the blade proportions. Tachi versus Uchigatana. Tachi were larger and used for armored or mounted combat. Uchigatana were smaller and mainly used on foot, and also associated with robed samurai because armored samurai were phasing out of relevance due to modernization.

Just use what you think is cool, it's a weeb build anyway.
>>

Couldn't sleep so I've been up since about 3 am getting the last of the panel lining done and final assembly. It's pretty rough but by god I'm almost finally done with it. Gotta grab some cement from the local hobby shop when it opens to fix one piece that broke then it's decals and final top coat later today.

This is my second airbrushing attempt. I painted it entirely with Tamiya Acryllics, topcoated with Mr.Hobby Gloss. I'm aware that the pictures and the posing aren't the best, but I just finished him and wanted to share. I might brush some extra details on at a later point.

Any advice would be appreciated!

the gold on the swords looks really bad, i assume its the base molding color? painting those would go a long way
same with the clear parts. given the richness of the metallic red, the fact that you just left them transparent clear is kind of distracting. id say either go with clear green and paint the underside chrome or paint the top chrome and then clear green
>>
>>19768218
Truth be told, I forgot to paint those entirely. I'll wait until I'm painting gold again on another kit, or maybe I'll just brush it on.
>>
Can anyone from the UK recommend a good grey primer? I bought a can from Boyes and I feel like the kit I tried it on feels brittle now.
>>
>>19768075
The easiest way in photoshop is select/mark the stand with the object selection tool, then go to Edit > Content Aware Fill, done, ez pz. Results may vary but be sure the stand is clear enough to select and not occupies a large proportion of the photo.
>>
>>19768271
the easiest stuff to get is the acrylic rattlecans from GW, but you can probably get the paints from them too. be aware that GW likes to overprice their paints to shit and back so you might be better just ordering some valejo or tamiya primer online.

Just like >>19768891 said, that's only if you don't paint and you want to restore/buff the plastic to its original shininess (although a regular sandpaper and nail buffer works the same kek) If you paint however, who cares, you'll spray primer on top of it anyway

http://schizophonic9.com/re7/hg_cybaster.html
>>
>>19768906
It honestly isn’t as scary as you think. Just remember that spray cans don’t have the air flow control of your average dual action air brush, so you need to make quick passes in a line as you’re spraying he parts. Never spray a part with the can just sitting in front of said part. You’ll need sweeping motions.
>>
>>19768271
any grey primer on amazon, it's all pretty much the same garbage. never pay more than £5 for a big can.

>>19767587
Screws are a good cutoff point, so early 2000:s.
>>
>>19769076
Screws aren't bad though, at least not on kits from G
>>
>>19769076
The Ground Gundams are still largely solid kits. Obviously they don't have all the bells and whistles of modern ones and you've got a lot of seams to deal with you wouldn't now, but they're entirely functional.
>>
>>19769076
Zeta pluses have screws and they are very good kits
>>
>>19769126
>>19769149
>>19769158
How is the Kampfer? I've been thinking that I made a mistake by getting it because of the screws so I've let it collect dust in my backlog.
>>
>>19769165
It's been almost 20 years since I built the MG Kampfer. At the time I thought it was alright. It's molded in the wrong colour and there are some irritating seams but there are much worse models. I'd rank it beneath any of the kits mentioned, but not so bad I'd say it must be avoided. Really does deserve a 2.0 though.
>>
>>19768716
Use more thinner.
>>
>>19769126
they should go back to screws because in a lot of cases they're just better, I wish they used metal parts for general internal mechanics you can't see and stuff like very sharp thin details, and yes you can sand metal.
>>
>>19768906
>>19768991
Adding one important thing the previous anon left out:
Rattlecan: hold far away from the subject you are painting
Airbrush: hold close.
If you use a can too close you will absolutely drench your parts and you'll get runs and loss of surface detail.
>>
Alclad first timer here.
Does any gloss black work for the primer (like mr color gx)? Do I have to sand the gloss black a bit before using alclad on it? How do I clean my airbrush afterward?

honestly pretty much everything predating the first 2.0 was sketchy. You don't really get the luxury of a 2.0 for a lot of kits predating the Mk 2 and that's a damn shame. There's still some okay kits prior to that. People like the Zeta A1, the dom wins a pass but the 1.5 makes it redundant, ground gundam is kind of shit but looks okay, same with the gouf custom. Guncannon aged well from what I can tell. The RX-78-4/5 are both pretty nice color separation wise (this is about when bandai was getting the hang of molding color accuracy I'd argue) but articulation sucks...they could really use a 2.0. Once we hit 2005 and got the 2.0 kits...things started to click a little more. I'd say 2008 is when things finally got good though with the 2.0 Zaku frames and RX-78-2 just looking through releases. Yeah there is plenty of duds but generally color separation is good from 2008 onwards and things look good with minimal paint apps. So in summary...

>if you don't want to do a lot of paint work to get something to look good, don't buy anything before the mk 2 2.0
>if you don't mind a little paint work but don't want to do fucktons of masking, anything from the mk 2 2.0 to the Gundam 2.0 is gonna be fine. Obviously the Zaku II 2.0 is the goat
>anything from the Gundam 2.0 onwards will be pretty color acc and won't take a lot of work to make look good out of the box.

I don't care much about pieces fitting like shit because glue is magic

GM cardigan is pretty nice, plus if you want you can build it as a regular powered GM and have a bunch of bits and bobs for bashing

>>19769862
i don't see why they wouldn't just get a 2.0. Just take all the parts, slam em on the 2.0 frame, we're done.

That was done with lacquer Tamiya cans, it's been a few years since I did that one but I'm almost certain that's just plain old gunmetal. I don't think there's a single bit of acrylic paint on that.

So, is the MGEX worth it? How's it? I want an Unicorn but don't really know which kit to get.
>>
>>19771266
if you can afford it, buy it.
>>
>>19771266
Everyone agrees the MGEX is the best. PG is great too if you have the space for it. RG is also really good but small. The regular MG has shitty knees. HG is ok.
>>
>>19771266
RG is the best version of the unicorn
>>
>>19771320
It's literally the PG but shrunk down so yeah it's amazing for its size
>>
>>19771266
Kit is awesome and doubles as a nightlamp
>>
>>19771266
No. It looks almost identical to the MG, except it has lights, but the issue is that it looks horrible when they're off, since the frame is colorless. That would be fine, but the LEDs are battery powered and not USB, therefore can't be left on for long.

Really it's just a flawed kit all around. If you really want an LED gimmick, go PG, since if they're off it doesn't look like garbage. Plus you can get the Daban LEDs with their mini USB port.
>>
>>19771324
That's not true at all, PG has unchained and a magnetic horn
>>
>>19771362
Or you can just fucking paint the frame.
>>
>>19771423
But what about the fucking LEDs that fucking change fucking color?
>>
>>19771362
The MGEX has better knees than the MG and you can just paint the clear psychoframe like you're supposed to anyway
>>
>>19771423
In other words, it takes more effort to make the frame look passable. And that will ruin the LED colors in all likelihood. And there's the fact you could scratch the paint transforming it.

>>19771431
As I and >>19771430 said, that's going to limit the colors for the LED then.
>>
>>19771430
What about them?
>>
>>19771433
There's a scene in Unicorn where the psychoframe has no color and it looks badass af
>>
>>19771362
>he can't solder two wires into a 5v wall transformer
>>
>>19771431
its clear so that the LEDs shine through better.
though honestly, the colorless spychoframe isnt even that bad looking.
its just one of those deals where you have to be super autistic about detail to be mad about.
>>
>>19771362
it's an entirely new mold with different proportions so you're wrong.

the PG has like 3.5x the parts, different proportions, several mechanical features absent from the RG, fully part separated psychoframe parts, gating for LED wires that doesn't hinder the engineering of the model etc.
don't see at all how it's a "downscaled PG"

Question for how to clean gunpla fo dust.

I was thinking of using like a make up brush (pic related).

Or shall i buy Tamiya Anti dust brush -- is that worth it?
